Weight: 0.0

I feel pretty unhappy with everything.  I think my husband is the one good thing.  I just can't shake these angry hurt feelings.  This is more of a journal entry then a diet entry.  I just feel so wrong.  I just want my life and my feelings to be different.

I feel crazy.  I feel like people ruin everything.  I wish I did not have to deal with other peoples egos and craziness.  I want people to just stop feeling the nasesity to rock the boat.  I wish they were more like my husband... easy going and never backstabbing in anyway..  I think I hate women.  I hate there need to get catty and meddling.  I wish they would just stuff it up their big corn holes and go try and freak out over thier own problems.

I could just punch someone in the face right now.

I'm sorry this is a difficult time for you. I'll be thinking of you, and hoping whatever the major problems are can be resolved. It's great you have your husband for support. Take a deep breath, and hang in there!

moogy on 02/05/2011:
I think that you probably wouldn't have written this if you didn't want some support and maybe suggestions. I was thinking that maybe you are not feeling happy with yourself at the moment and that this is making you feel hyper alert to other peoples inadequacies. This is not how you usually are. I was just an idea I had that I thought that you could think about.:)

Beth201P on 02/05/2011:
I hope everything gets better for you. I know how you are feeling. Hang in there.

Here is how I *try* to see things. There is a lot of **** out there. Everyone will gladly give you some of their **** to share. Or take some of yours in hopes to distract from their own. Forget that... just keep yours yours, shake off everyone else's, and then 'keep calm and carry on' (I see that quote as more, tackle one problem at a time). Not always easy to do.

Weight: 184.0

Well I saw a 184lbs on the scale for the second time in the last couple days so I am just going to take it.

I did half a workout today and I skipped on yesterday cause I was dealing with some merital problems.  I am thinking that I might have to mix up my p90x with the gym so 3 days gym and pool and 3 days doing the p90x since I really hate kempo and yoga and my determination usually dwindles when I do those workouts.  I just want to stay on track and keep doing something that I enjoy instead of a horrible shore I have to do.  I think I will probably stick it out if I switch it out like that.  I really do love the weight training days aposed to the cardio.  I should have just done the Classic program which would of offered me more weight training days then the Lean program which I am in.

Weight: 190.0

So if I did 15 min yoga and a 20 min walk do you think I could still put an X on my calender today for excersize done or is that sortd half assing it?  Or maybe I should take it as a failed day.... I dont know.  I did eat a lot of chocolate today.  Over all it was a big bad day on my part.

-----------

Well we got 4 inches of snow today and a -16 windchill.

-------------

Not feeling the greatest this morning.  Its day 22 of p90x I checked the scale this morning because its weigh-in-day.  First it said 185 and then it said 190 and then back to 185 and then again to 190lbs.  So I don't know if I should stay at 190 or go to 185lbs.  I need a new scale.

Its the beginning of the 4th week and I am on my rest week.  Which consists of a lot of yoga.  I really hate yoga.  I have been trying it for the last month and its something that puts a frown on my face and seems to ruin the rest of my day emotionally.  I don't know why.  It just does and I dont like it.  I dont like the quiet and the stillness, I don't like the spirituality music that usually plays in the background, I don't like the way my body feels.  If I wanted to clear my mind I would meditate and if I wanted to be flexible I would do some really good stretching.  Anyways I got 15 minutes into the hour and 30 minute video and totally gave up.  I got to day 22 and its yoga that I think will ruin me.  You could not get me into an cresent moon-warrior-downdog-whatever pose today if you paid me good money.  I might attempt to do something later but I think I am just going to focus on work.

Also someone canceled plans on me for a good reason... I just feel like its happened a lot and maybe this person is too busy to be an actual friend.

Work is behind and I am totally broke with my husbands birthday on the 1st,

The house is so cold my feet are like ice.

...yeah not a good morning so far.

Umpqua on 11/22/2010:
That's a huge weight range, I bet it's the lower weight since you've been working so hard. Maybe new batteries or a new scale? I hope your day improves. Could you just substitute the meditation and stretching for the yoga since you dislike it? I see no reason to force yourself to do something you don't enjoy when there are so many other options!

KathyBlue on 11/22/2010:
everybody should get a new scale for Xmas! :)

moogy on 11/22/2010:
You made me smile - for which I thank you - with your description of that yoga pose. It is funny that you don't enjoy the yoga part of your program. I would have thought it would be the only part I would like. Sounds like their is something wrong with those scales, new batteries maybe??? Have a good day despite the scales and the yoga!!:)

chidogs on 11/22/2010:
I hate cold feet! Goodness, substitute something for the yoga. Not good to dislike something so much. Take care.

moogy on 11/22/2010:
Sweetheart I think you should count it as an exercise day. You don't like the yoga and still did some and went for a walk. Chocolate aside (which was probably medicinal anyway - and so the calories don't count!!) you are still doing great!!

Maria7 on 11/19/2010:
I think most people need to show more love to themselves, speaking of people who are always showing love to others but not to themselves. On the other hand, there are always some people who live only for themselves and could care less about anyone else. I know you are a very caring person and you show others that you care and I hope you have a good evening. :-)

loveray on 11/20/2010:
i personally love that explanation - it's not the least bit pompous...i agree with Maria, that people in our society all too often underestimate the power of self love:) hope you have a wonderful day!

What a wonderful, beautiful realization!

hollybelle on 11/21/2010:
YES! Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love one another - some people hear that and take it to mean to ignore love of self! But that's just not true. God intends us to LOVE ourselves alot - he loves us - so what's not to love??? Who are we to say we are not loveable??? Glad you are living up to your DD name and the greatest commandment!

Reality check:  you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight.  At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems.  You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life.  Losing weight is not a cure for life.---Phillip C. (p90x and Mindful Eating)
Weight: 190.0

I made this comment on someones diary who is between 215-200lbs and I thought I should share it with all of you because well most of you are not helping yourselves by starving yourselves.

the comment below.

"How tall are you>?  I am just asking because 1300Cals-1400Cals a day for someone of your weight sounds dangerously low 1450cals is a healthy weight loss low calorie intake for someone that is around 160lbs and is around 5’7”.

You could be wrecking your metabolism and once your off the low calorie diet could result in rapid weight gain.  It scares me when I see women struggling with weight jump into a skinny girl’s diet.  It actually causes the opposite effect in the end.

Lets say your around 5’3 to 5’7 in height and around 25-35years of age and worked out 3 times a week.

To maintain you would need to eat 2200-2400 Calories/day

Making a healthy diet for your body type around 1700-1900cals/day

Diets that are very low in calories. Unless properly balanced and supervised,  can be nutritionally deficient and can cause potential health problems.  Along with extremely restrictive calories often comes fatigue, and even other issues such as constipation because you’re not getting your fiber in.  The biggest issue is a lowered metabolism that can begin a pattern of yo-yo dieting. Depending on your goals, fast weight loss can also include loss of muscle mass (catabolism) as well as the fat, which you don’t want.

- So I need to ask you.   Do you think you could eat only 1400cals a day for the rest of your life?  Because you would have to, to you keep the weight off...because the minute you go to a normal eating pattern again your body is going to grab back on to that weight like nobody’s business because it feels like it’s been starved.  You will find once you try and get back to a maintaining calorie amount per day you will actually not be able to find that stop button.  This usually results in binging.

check this video out for what I am trying to say.

http://www.5min.com/Video/Why-Diets-Dont-Work-326109242

You may even find that you start to plateau a lot on a low calorie diet and have to keep going drastically lower and lower in your calorie intake just to see a change in the scale.  You wrote in your diary before that you have experienced that out of control binging-- this could be your body telling you it has had enough and it needs to eat.  I think a lot of women go through binge days on a low calorie diet and blame it on an old pattern of behavior and then try to up the anty and control their food intake even more.  When actually it wasn't an old behavior re-emerging it was your own body telling you that you were treating it badly and now needs to rectify the problem.  If the body is denied enough fuel it requires to sustain certain level of activity it can and will actually stop losing weight.  It is pertinent to realize the importance of maintaining sufficient calorie intake for optimum weight.  Further, if the starvation continues, the blood sugar can drop too low and the appetite may increase. The food intake at the next meal will be more; You will probably eat far too much.

If you’re at 1400cals now at 213lbs where are you going to be in your calorie intake at let’s say 170lbs or 160lbs will you have to drop down to a 1000cals a day diet?  Is this realistic?  Lets just put it this way I am 190lbs at 5’6” I work out 6 days a week for 1 hour and my calorie allowance is 1800cals-to-2000cals this is still about 900calories under maintenance levels so even those numbers are low for me.  This type of diet will give me enough calorie room to slowly lower my calorie needs as my weight drops.  As my weight drops I will slowly start to gage my maintenance levels and minus 500cals from those numbers to get a calorie deficit that is achievable.  Another important secret to eating your way thin is to eat five or six times a day. That may seem like an awful lot of food, but it's not if you remember to keep the meals smaller than what you're used to.  Your metabolism is like a fire-if you feed it it will grow and grow and get brighter and hotter but if you stop putting logs on that fire it will just go cold.  It gets pretty hard to feed yourself five-to-six times a day on a 1200-1000cal diet unless you consider an apple or a carrot your lunch time.

So what are we aiming for here?  Are we aiming for fast weight loss that will last maybe 6 months-to 1 year before you starting packing it back on again?   The National Institutes of Health and other studies show that 98 percent of people who lose weight gain it back within five years. And 90 percent of those gain back more weight than they lost. The failure of weight loss programs is so great that a leading researcher has said, “Dieting is the leading cause of obesity in the US.”  So chew on that for a little bit.

Each individual is unique, what works for your friend or a super model may not be suitable for you. Understand your body type and seek realistic goals. If required, talk to a nutritionist.  Also know that yes you have already shot yourself in the foot if you are on a very low calorie diet and trying to put yourself on a healthy diet and exercise plan will most likely result in temporary weight gain.  But this is temporary, most healthy regimes result in 4-9 pounds weight gain in the first 4 weeks because 1. Your muscles are not used to working out so they retain water and 2. Your metabolism is shot to hell so you’re going to have to take the first 2 months in damage control mode while your body goes “Oh good she is not starving me anymore. Yay.  I guess I can let some of this extra energy go.”   Thankfully when you started this diet you were very over weight and the very low calorie diet probably jump started things and thus a good amount of weight loss was had.  But to continue an extremely low calorie diet would be detrimental since you are not extremely over weight anymore it is time to focus on a healthy metabolism so that the weight you have already lost won’t creep back and also so that any further weight loss will result in keeping it off long term.  Sometimes slow and steady wins the race.  It is far harder to let yourself eat and be ok with it then just starving ourselves and giving in to social concepts of how one becomes thin.  What we must understand is not eating enough is the equivalent of eating too far too much.  I know I struggle with bad diet habits everyday…. In the back of my mind I always feel it is wrong to “eat”, eating is what got me hear in the first place right?  But every time I have been on a low calorie diet the weight always comes back and then some.  I have been on this diet diary for over 5 years  now under different names and I have seen women lose 50-60 pounds only to be back 7 months later 10 pounds heavier then when they started in the first place. You have to make the choice to do something not for just 5 months-to- 1 year you have to make a life commitment to yourself.   Rome wasn’t built in a day.  You didn’t gain the weight all in a couple months you can’t expect to let it all go in a couple months either.  I would rather lose 2 pounds a month and gain muscle and be at my goal in 20 months and stay there for the rest of my life then to lose 40 pounds in 3-5 months( like I have in the past) only to gain it all back in 1 year.  We should all rejoice knowing that being healthier does not mean we have to punish ourselves to do it and that being in control does not = starving ourselves."

----

I really think myself and others delude themselves with the thought process of “Being fat is a quick fix, just stop stuffing your face and you’ll get thin.”  You know just reading my comment over again 1800cals/day for 6 days of working out is sooo low.  Why do we do this to ourselves?  The sick thing is, many if not all of the ladies on this diary are probably shaking their heads in disgust at 2000Cals a day to lose weight.  ha ha but reality check.  My body is a machine and if I expect to get up in the morning and give myself a intense workout for 1-1;20 hours a day that isn’t half assed I better be willing to fuel the fire.

We get so upset at our husbands and boyfriends when they lose weight at the drop of a hat.  Yes their biological make up is different from ours but have you noticed that they eat food regularly without any concern.  Men have a better concept of fueling themselves then we seem to.  We have been taught by the media that supermodels don’t eat and they are skinny and thus that must be how it is done.  Now I am not giving you a license to just go out and stuff your faces with whatever you want.  I told you the body is a machine and if you feed it the wrong fuel it isn’t going to work the way you want it to.  What foods you eat is just as important as how much food you eat.

So for today I am going to allow myself to eat a healthy calorie day with a reasonable/realistic calorie deficit.  That is not detrimental to my metabolism and not freak out about it.  Ok, and you should too.  You want to know how much you should really be eating check out this calculator and go with the “fat loss” option not the “extreme fat loss option” and you’re body is going to thank you

Interested in where I get this information?

There are some more in-depth calculators out there that take into account body fat and the like. This is another neat calculator it actually gives you a read out of how much calories to intake over time while you lose weight.

Are You Dying to Lose Weight? by Wendy Priesnitz

http://www.naturallifemagazine.com/0204/weight.htm

is a great article and I would recommend any one to give it a read. I constantly quote the first couple paragraphs “One survey found 62 percent of adults are dieting and 18 percent are constantly on a diet. And in spite of all this effort, and these weight loss products, health club memberships, diet pills and potions, tummy tucks and stomach staplings, books and tapes, the number of people declared to be obese is increasing.

The National Institutes of Health and other studies show that 98 percent of people who lose weight gain it back within five years. And 90 percent of those gain back more weight than they lost. The failure of weight loss programs is so great that a leading researcher has said, “Dieting is the leading cause of obesity in the US.”

I also do a lot of reading into muscle growth- different body building routines and a lot of body building diet plans for women are all about getting the proper energy in you to help with the workouts needed to grow nice lean muscles. I think these programs get better longer lasting results then the standard "I am just going to starve today." diets haha which I have faithfully tried to follow in the past. There is a science behind the exercise stating that with the workouts you release the positive chemicals in the brain to ward off depression and the like.. I was more interested in that aspect then anything else but as I was going through the different research I found more and more evidence on why "diets" or extremely low calorie diets just dont work long term. So in turn over the last 2 years I have supplemented the concept of "diet" to a "healthy eating plan" topped with fitness. Something I think is more beneficial mentally and physically.

ahhh, thank you for the advice. I think you're right, I'm going to try and let the excuses go... I just have this timetable: working from 9am to 6pm every weekday, Mondays/Wednesdays: French class after work, Fridays: hidrogym after work, Saturdays: Pilates & PowerDeep class... The only days I have the evenings available are Tues/Thurs because I wanted to spend them with hubby.. I do tennis 5 times a week at 7 am, before work.. :) this is it! :)

KathyBlue on 11/17/2010:
the text is good, that's why we need to do exercise

OpenMyWings on 11/17/2010:
I agree with you about making sure we're getting enough calories. However, lifestyle needs to be considered too. Not many people are as active as you are, so they may need to go below 2,000 daily calories in order to lose. However, going as low as 1,200 calories does need to be supervised by a physician or other healthcare professional.

loveray on 11/17/2010:
good posts - where did you get this information? i always have had trouble figuring out exactly how many calories i should eat per day because there is a fine line between fat loss and ruining your metabolism...if you have suggestions for me (im 5'7' and 145 lbs) i would love to hear them. i exercise probably 4-5 times a week:)

Umpqua on 11/17/2010:
You definitely make some good points about the dangers of not taking in enough calories. But I think it varies for each person and we have to figure out what works for us. Height, age, medications, metabolism, hormones, exercise level (some people on this site don't exercise much at all and rely on low-cal for their weight loss) all play a significant role. I agree that if people are hungry or starving all the time then there is a problem with the number of calories they are taking in. For others, 1,400 calories a day works out just fine for weight loss.

Great picture below btw!

chidogs on 11/17/2010:
Good suggestions all, but in the long run it is still very individual. Age in particular can play a roll. I can't exercise much due to the weight and age related aches and pains. I do my best, but walking is about it right now. Once I get the poundage off, i hope to be able to do more and hurt less. I appreciate your well thought out advice though. Words worth pondering.

OpenMyWings on 11/17/2010:
I agree with you about many jumping on the bandwagon... who wouldn't want to lose weight quickly? The problem is that it's not healthy. The website you provided to me offers a great deal of information on how to lose safely. I'm working with my physician and a dietician for my weightloss journey.

loveray on 11/17/2010:
thanks for the great info!! :)

OpenMyWings on 11/17/2010:
Thank you :) I also found this site to be helpful http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

Maria7 on 11/17/2010:
I think we each have to individually find what works for us. Scientific studies may work for some folks...they may decide to go by what the studies say and they may see that each month, their weight is steadily going toward their goalweight, so their numbers show that is working for them...but if not, then maybe they need to do something different... We are each unique individuals...what works for one may not work for another...I am all for getting to healthy goalweights in a healthy way...I think that is what DD's goal is...to encourage folks to get to their goalweights in a healthy way as well as to share support along the way one to another... Some older people cannot have as many calories as younger people to lose or maintain their weights...metabolism could be the reason...inactivity due to limitations could be another reason...simply not taking the time to have long intense workouts frequently due to other responsibilities which take higher priority could be another reason...lots of reasons and this resonates for younger folks, too, who also may have some workout limitations or family responsibilities that take priority over frequent workouts... I do agree with you though, that it is good for us each to include our views in our journals as to what we may personally think may be of help to our fellow friends at DD...It may work for us and it may work for some others, too! Hope you have a wonderful evening! Love, Maria

hollybelle on 11/19/2010:
Yes, these are great points. This has been on my mind, too. I get so upset when I think of people going hungry! There is no need to. No one can eat evrything they want, any time they want, but we do NOT have to be hungry.

(p90x and Mindful Eating)
Weight: 190.0

*Sigh* so I was checking out a pant size chart and they say that my pant size is a 16!  But I really think this is untrue because if I go to a store and try on anything over a size 13-14 I am swimming in the pants?  So am I a size 16 or am I a size 13?  I hate clothing they are so frustrating... I have a size 14 that almost fall off on me when I bend over?  No wonder women have body image issues.

I have decided to come back here and put up my food intake for the day each day.  My calorie allowence is 1800cals-2000cals.  I exsersize 6 days a week doing p90x/walking/pool sometimes.

Up 2 pounds

Bust 39.5
waist 36(-1)
Wrist 6.2 (-.3)
thighs 22
hips 41.5(+.5)
forearm 9.5

arm 12.5

from last week.

I am thinking that I wont weigh in until each 30day marks because this is just a little discouraging.

I agree that you should take a little time off weighing! I LOVE your pic, You are beautiful :) You already knew that though! LOL

moogy on 11/16/2010:
lovely photo, you look happy - which is great! I am glad that we will be seeing your diary more often. It is true that different manufacturers have different sizes and the more expensive the brand the smaller the sizing!! Mind you I will worry about fitting into a 14 when I get there!!!!:)

(p90x and Mindful Eating)
Weight: 188.0

Well day 12 of p90x.  Haven't missed a day yet but I came pretty close a few times.  Today was arms and back and I think that workout is my faverit as it seems to get me sweating and heart rate up the most.  I usually end the hour drenched in sweat, today I made myself a little sick with the workout though, took some ginger chews but I still feel green at the gills.  I told my husband to pick up some WonTon soup as that always seems to make me feel better whenever I am sickly.  My sleeping skedule is totally off and I think that has a lot to do with it too.  I have that "I have drank to much coffee" wired headarch and tummy shakes feeling.  I need to turn my scedule around a bit so I am just going to take it easy tonight.

Progress as of today: 10 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

You should take it easy, you don't want to overexert yourself! Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better. That doesn't sound fun at all! Take care.

moogy on 11/12/2010:
Mmmm, sounds as if you might be overdoing it a bit. You take it easy sweetheart. You are doing great, but please don't work so hard that you feel so close to a brown out, that's not good.

V on 11/12/2010:
please take care my sweet!
