Heading out early to get a bunch of errands done.....Denny reminded me that in the next 3 weeks we will be getting icy roads, so I really need to step up my game here....while I can get out in the winter to do things at times...I really do not like to...so getting in things that we need now makes a lot more sense than Having to go get them in bad weather out of necessity.....from Nov to april I would prefer to pick my days carefully......since our roads here go for many miles without phone access and have some very deep ditches and do a lot of hills and gullies they can be very dangerous....and since I am a sissy....LOL.....I prefer to nest then.  We have a pretty hefty stash of necessities right now...but will add to it some more just to be safe.  Things like Laundry soap, tp and Kleenex still need to be bought.....vitamins and plastic bags were delivered yesterday.....and the most gigantic jar of  pork rinds I have ever seen was delivered yesterday for Denny....I don't like them but they have no sugar and no carbs so they work well for him....He dug in and was happy as a clam...they do have cals though but not bad.  I may have to give those things another shot....but I would have to be pretty desperate.  More of the tuna pouches arrived too...they are a GREAT WW deal....but eating those daily may mean too much mercury so....I will not be using them that often......it's always something.

I haven't abandoned you, but it's been a difficult end-of-the-week for me. Your selections this week look really good. I miss seeing the WW point totals. Are you still counting?

Your husband's remark about ice storms in 3 months was rather jolting to me. We have weather in common, both of us being in the Midwest, but with the recent heat wave, and apparently another one coming through Chicago early next week, it doesn't really feel like October, and seems way too soon to be talking about ice, LOL.

Looking forward to reading more of your menus. Keep countin' points :-)

Hi Donkey....I will go back to adding the points on here....actually I like to see them here too...and I am still counting. We are in the upper part of lower Michigan and it was 35 degrees here this morning...we are in amongst the Federal and State forests...so I think that does contribute to the temps...and I saw the worst car accident this morning...someone must have been really speeding and hit the end of a guard rail...which tore it up and curled it into the air and twisted it so that it covered a whole lane 8 to 10 feet in the air...what a mess..that held up traffic...and happened about 5 minutes before I got to it....I was leaving the the store as the ambulances, fire trucks and police cars flew by....glad I'm home. Hope next week goes better for you...you are lucky to be getting some nicer weather next week...I haven't heard that for us so far....but my flowers are about gone now...last night did a number on them..

Hi BCGG! Happy Saturday (on Monday!)

It’s always nice to get the errands done and outta the way early. That’s what I did on Sunday, driving home from my parents, with the hamster hanging out in my backseat of my car in his cage, I totally left him in there while I picked up some groceries. Car smelled like his bedding when I got back in since the sun was shining…lol….and I promptly opened the car windows for the ride home lol. I’m just glad I recognized the smell and that I generally do not smell of hamster! He’s such a cutie love him to bits! He slept on me like at least half hour on Saturday morning :-P while I took him out at my parent’s house. Even my sister held him and played with him. He’s the MOST gentle creatue!

Yes, I do love the tuna pouches although you are right they cannot be eaten all the time. As for the pork rinds, I find them very hard to stomach also. Still, he should stick to one serving. They prob have salt too. But yes, better eating protein / fat than carbs as a snack. Maybe he can eat them with lunch also, and with veggies…has he started in with any veggies??? Haha. I guess you’ll have to buy frozen for the winter…it’s so different by you!

Raining...Raining...Raining.  And fall is in full swing...I  love it!  The 3rd Jury Duty is coming up next week....2 down...3 to go...I'm hoping for another cancellation.

Breakfast = toasted asiago bagel with butter, 1 boiled egg and coffee 

Lunch= turkey, boiled egg, cucumbers, bagel with butter

Dinner = apple, mandarin orange and a small piece ham

I'm spending the morning doing laundry and running the dishwasher...and making up a notebook with some goals in it. I seem to do better if I write things down sometimes...other times...not so much....now that the cooler weather is here I will be spending more time at home and in the house...the flowers are dying off and I emptied a couple of pots this morning...the others still have some color...so I left those. Paid some bills this morning and got those out to the box...I understand we have a mean bear around...so being outside just got a little scarier. The loggers have been clearing out so many of our forests this year...I think it's making the bear and deer upset and they are hanging around houses more. I took your advice HOP and ordered some decaf coffee pods....they should come next week....Ups coming today...and twice next week...and Schwans cancelled until the middle of November...so we need to get using what is on hand now...and not replacing unless desperate...time to use up all of the things we shouldn't even have in the house now that Denny is diabetic and I'm counting points. Shopping in the future will be quite different for us...we will never give everything up...but we could do with a lot less of it around. I've hid some things from Denny and I put them on his snack shelf in the kitchen in limited numbers to help him keep from over doing it...problem is nobody is hiding them from me....LOL It is strange to now have to cut his carbs and sugars...because his sugar is HIGH...and My sugar is determined to stay low and I have to have the carbs and sugars to keep mine at a safe level...and I always have to have sugar close by for big drops...that can be quite dangerous...so we have agreed that basically we will be eating separately at different times now...to make it all work.....I'm done with eating at a time that he is hungry just because it's mealtime.....even if I'm not hungry...it seems to be working okay...and neither of us are bothered by it so far...that way I do need to make different meals basically...but it also does not tempt the other to eat things they really shouldn't...it would be better for my points to eat less carbs...but they are the only way I can keep my hypoglycemia in control or near control...so I will never be able to have a no sugar environment for me...so I need to keep it out of Dennys sight..

same here - my blood sugar also drops and i tend to crave it to feel better / get back up to something more moderate.

good thing about healthy eating is it's not supposed to be 100%...it's like the 80/20 or similar where you DO have your likes / favorite less healthy things in moderation. too much low sugar and low salt and low fat makes for a very boring diet and a very unhappy person! i agree so much!

lately i feel that eating something fried is more sayisfying to my palate and stomach.

i've been working to tweak my diet / try new things as of late.

lately i do not crave a lot of meat or veggies like where i was last month. it's weird. i still cannot seem to stop myself from overeating on carbs, so i try to take a substantial amount and just stop when i finish whatever i took (like i took half a bagel at lunch so that i didn't have to deal with a full bagel and start to eat beyond the half...)..i only have to currently work on stopping after finishing a substantial serving of carbs...they're always been my weakness lol...but i do not restrict them...i eat them bc they tend to contribute to feeling good...

if you cut his carbs and sugars, do not allow treats like cakes. and i think it's best to eat fruit after a meal bc before it, it just raises the sugars right away. this is also how i eat my carbs...after i eat the veggies and protein or after at least a couple bites of the veggies protein...

you may want to try this approach with your hubby....not to start a meal with carbs (fruit or breads)...because that'll increase his blood sugars more than starting a meal with watery veggies (not potatoes!) and proteins. i read this somewhere. that it has been proven to help.

i agree it's better to only eat when YOU want it...don't just use your points bc of Denny's eating.

better to take care of you...you can still join him at the table with a seltzer, herbal tea, decaf coffee.

Denny seems to look for something sweet right after a meal,....he and my parents always look for dessert then...not me...I look for dessert between meals....LOL....I do go on food jags too...today I only wanted protein...possibly because yesterday there wasn't as much...not having a hungry day at all today...it's been an easy one. There has been a lot out there about our brains needing carbs...people on low carb high protein diets are usually grumpy and constipated....but there is a doctor now who says that gluten causes dementia..and pushes a low carb diet...it's hard to know what is true these days. I do know that protein is hard on the kidneys and the older we get the less efficient out kidneys are. I kind of think a well rounded diet is probably the healthiest...including all foods...and you are right about fried foods...we need that oil...our skin, hair and nails need it..ww wants us to have a healthy fat every day...and we have stopped using margarine at our house...we now basically use butter and olive and coconut oils.

Up  really early today 4:30 instead of 5 or 6...but I got to bed earlier and slept well...so it was time.  I had no desire to eat last evening and that was a nice change.I feel like ww is going to be just fine...with the addition of this group it seems absolutely do able.  Looking at what has been sitting in our feezer and pantry..it is becoming clearer and clearer why we were putting on weight....we will use this stuff up and not replace it again.......this newer way that ww is counting points really does make poor food choices clearer.

Well...those hot days are finally over and fall has returned again...and I love it...Fall and winter are my favorites...don't like the ice...but snow is just fine.

Spent a lot of time already today on the phone with oldest son who is having computer problems...sent him our tablet and he's trying to get that set up just to find apparently it is obsolete now....UGH..looks like a new computer is in his future.

The day is slipping away...bill paying and out to the mailbox..and bath/hairwashing done and that's about it...need to get bed made, some laundry put away and some picking up over with..then I plan to relax for the rest of the day...I'm looking forward to that.  Also got a notice from the bank that my rewards credit cards have lots of points that need to be used..I forget about those....ended up ordering $250 in free gas gift cards, $25 in Amazon and $20 at drug store...How could I ever forget those...that's like money in the bank..

We were just so ready to grow up and get on with our lives...He had just graduated from High school and I had just finished 11th grade and only needed 3 classes to graduate so I did that in night school very quickly...he went on to work days and college nights, when he finished college I started and finished....Like he said the other day...It seems like we have been together forever...LOL basically we have. Luckily it works.

turkey will be a few less points and fish like tuna even less...especially those tuna packets. also egg whites will be very low points....i am surprised the chicken was so high in points though!

Maybe WW is more carb-oriented...but the proteins will keep you fuller longer....just a little goes a long way!

It was a frozen meal that I got sometime back.....anything that comes in the house now is lower in points...but we are using things up that are in the freezer...this one will not be purchased again....and those stax chips.....10 points and not even very good...I'm hoping that was the last package of those too...LOL I have some turkey deli meat...I will have some of that tomorrow...but chicken in itself is okay...it was just that frozen meal thing that is full of cals...

we just grew up really fast....I'm not saying it was a good thing...but it happened and worked out......we were in the same biology class and we had to poke our finger for blood tests...I couldn't get up the nerve to poke myself and he came over and volunteered to stick me with the lancet...LOL....that's how we met...LOL

Yesterday went really well...I got a ton of produce in..and made a conscious effort to stop eating early...I watched a Dr Oz program yesterday that reminded me that we really do need that 12 hour fast between dinner and breakfast to burn off the glycogen and start burning the fat....and since I knew a few people here are watching....I behaved...LOL...also....Denny is working on losing too and I now weigh 47 pounds MORE than my husband....NOT GOOD AT ALL!!!!  Of course he is on a diabetes pill that helps him lose weight...but that is no excuse for me Not to lose...After a successful day yesterday, I'm looking forward to repeating that today.....It's a huge laundry and cleaning day...so that will keep me moving.

Yes, I'm happy to hear of your produce and if you do the 12 hour fast, I have a feeling you'll feel good at breakfast and be satisfied easy than if you were eating and keeping your stomach full, where it forgets what empty feels like and never seems to shrink and then you never feel full except by eating too much!

LOL, on my trip, my stomach shrunk a bit bc we never overate & the portions were rather small! When i started eating veg here at work yesterday for lunch, my stomach hurt so badly after! LOL.

I really do like the feeling of being hungry...I always have...and I don't really eat out of actual hunger...I basically eat for 2 reasons...because my mouth wants something as in (sweets or chips)...OR...get this.....there is something in the fridge that needs to be used up....I'm wondering if the using things up is a consequence to being raised by parents that grew up in the depression...I have vivid memories of my dad drinking glass after glass of milk that was spoiling...because it was going to get thrown out.....I had grandparents that were so poor the food in their kitchen consisted of cornmeal, flour, rice, sugar and oil...my grandmother could make 1 chicken feed 9 people for 3 days...day one was always homemade noodles in chicken broth. So not throwing things out was a way of life for my parents too..even though they didn't have to struggle...and neither do we now...but those old habits apparently die hard.

The anytime points are there to use if you want to...they expire every 7 days if you don't use them...if you do use them...you get new ones on weigh in day...but the dailies are supposed to be used so that you get enough calories per day. You just felt that song coming on...didn't ya? The tuna pouches are really good too...and are not fishy at all.....I do enjoy those later in the day because of the protein.

Ah, it’s ok if your husband is losing faster. In general, men also have more muscle which means they burn more calories just bc their body compositions are different than our own (like they USUALLY do nothave as much chest fat (boobs) as we do…they have more muscle) and the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn and the more weight you’ll lose. So, it’s basic nature that he’d lose more than you. And the pill could be also helping, yes indeed.

I did the fast of 12 hours basically each day I was in Colombia bc we didn’t have food in the apt and it’s true – breakfast filled me up easily and was much harder to overeat bc I got full faster after not eating for like 12 hours. I agree with what you wrote & agree with Dr. Oz. Thanks for sharing his coffee talk with me also!

Later, you may not need to write the condiments you eat….especially if they are no points! It may be easier to add only the points but I realize it’s nice to write bc even I am visualizing it now….that eating these no point condiments, drinks & no cal foods like veggies is amazing bc they are fullness, satisfaction and taste without expanding your waistline! Good Job to you!

Keep going, BCGG! You are doing really well and you have to keep this momentum going bc that’s the only way to keep on track and not backslide so soon into your new lifestyle!

But how is the banana 0 !? it rocks your sugar up and makes you hungry in an hour!

And yes, the tuna pouches are amazing….very low cal with lots of protein. Satisfying!

Bananas today are free...old day...points....it's a thing that people griped about for years...and few actually ate bananas because they weren't free...so...now we can have them...they are a good source of potassium.

After my parents had both passed and in emptying their house...I found so many really old things that had been expired for so many years, ( I don't mind expired canned or boxed foods basically if they are undamaged)...but aspirin, and other things in their medicine cabinet that were from my childhood 50 years ago and more...my parents were savers..even things that no longer worked...they didn't believe in being wasteful...it stuck with me I guess. Even though my parents could afford better foods...we still had fried lunchmeat and boiled potatoes for dinner at least 3 or 4 times a week...my first recollection of sitting at the table and staring at my plate was( not touching it)...until my dad would ask if I was going to eat that...I always said no...and he would eat it...I knew I was home free then..I could leave the table. That went right up to age 16...when I got married....LOL....you didn't know we got married at 16 and 17...did you?

Okay.....I think I'm ready now to get it together.......or else someone just needs to slap me.  Monday always was my WW weigh in day back in the day...and it worked for me...meetings were Mondays and I also co sponsored a yahoo email ww group and it worked very well then...I am going to use the same principles myself in this group now....I need that personal accountability.  So I will be posting my weight every Monday...my daily points and my anytime points for the week.  In several ways the ww program is quite different...( they change it every year or two)...back in the day we used a cardboard slider to figure our points...now...since I am more than an hour away from meetings I am doing this with ww online...so I figure my points there.  It has been a little harder for me to stick with ( mainly because they really zing us with the points now in a way to get us to eat more fruits and veggies)...it is healthier for sure...and harder to get in those other foods...and that makes the cravings worse now...but...it has to be done.

Monday daily points (must use) 30

Weekly anytime points ( can use or not) 42

Coffee 16 ounces = 0 points

1 boiled egg 2 pts

1 large asiago bagel 10 pts

1 T butter 5pts

mandarin orange 0 pts

Raw vegetables and fruits have been key for me. Unfortunately, it gets harder to do/use when the weather gets colder and the produce isn't as fresh.

Make sure you're drinking enough water. That's been another hey, for me, any way...

The fruits and veggies are mostly all free now on ww..so that is better...we used to have to count most of them...so that is nice...I just went shopping for some fresh produce this morning so we have plenty on hand now...and I always have a glass of water by me at home..and I LOVE plain water...so that was then and is still a goodway to stay full. Sure I woud love yu you and anyone else to keep me accountable...I do get lazy about the veggies.

Thanks for all your positive notes and comments while I was away these past few days. The trip went so fast. I’m glad we slept enough during it. I’m glad you enjoyed my photos and posts. It was a trip to remember for a lifetime. It reminded me how different Colombian’s lives are from mine…how much more difficult it is for them even to walk a block on the mountainous terrain…It makes life here in NYC seem simple – especially my own life. It reminds me of everything I have taken for granted! And reminds me to be thankful for all I do have. It was an eye-opening moment.

I like the change in WW with the points where they emphasize the vegetables. LOL. But I really do. It’s the only way I really enjoy using to maintain my weight.

If you are craving a lot, you are probably missing something nutritionally. If you are craving chips, maybe you are missing salt. Or if you are craving sweets, maybe you are just thirsty. Meat – maybe you are low on iron. Try to figure out what the craving is and look online to see why. Maybe it’s as simple as eating more beans??

Good idea to use the same WW strategies at home and here. That will definitely keep you accountable! And of course you will progress.

Oh, with the coffee, you can do half decaf if you are worried about caffeine you can start switching slowly to decaf.

I knew you would get a kick out the veggies...LOL....I went out and picked up a lot today...so they will be showing up even more. Part of my craving problem is the low blood sugar...it really gets in the way sometimes...and chocolate seems to be the best way to bring it back up...and that can be an issue sometimes...I will admit...I waited until Denny went to bed last night before I ate that last piece of pizza...Ugh....now I'm sneaking food...GRRRR. I will check amazon to see if they have decaf k cups...I have never seen them at our store...but that's a good idea...because I do know that coffee makes me hungrier.....you guys have lots of good advice.

They are also a good source of iodine...I have hashimotos thyroiditis and need the iodine..and because I basically NEVER salt anything...it is a good way to get it.

Late night got crazy and had another slice pizza and candy....should have just gone to bed....UGH!

It's  going to be an at home day today....need to make up for yesterdays lack of fruits and veggies.

Breakfast = coffee, banana and the other half of last nights pasty (meat/potato pie)

Lunch will be hamburger on whole wheat bun, a 1/2 ear ear of corn and tomatoes, and cucumbers, potato chips and candy

evening = strawberries and tea, chocolate and dole almond clusters

Needing to get ahold of the snacking on high cal stuff.....no more picking something up and just going for it....I will be breaking down candy, bars, and mini packs into even smaller servings...I was shocked to find out too late that the dole almond nut cluster mini packs were 2 servings per mini pk....UGH

Well the blood pressure monitor I ordered from amazon got sent back today...that was NOT working at all.....and so I had a cup of coffee and headed for Walmart early....about 7 something....back before noon and the new one from Walmart is great.  But I was starving..after no breakfast...but resisted the urge to stop at mickeyds...and came home to eat lunch.

Breakfast = coffee

Lunch= ham sandwich, chips and cookies

 Dinner = 1/2 serving meat and potato pie and k cup snapple

Evening...got into the candy...need to think veggies and fruit tomorrow

Great victory...not stopping at MickeyD's! DH and I used to eat out at least two times a week, but haven't been out since we started eating better. I don't see the savings, but I guess I will soon. At least I hope I do before I just throw in the towel. Have a great weekend!

IP....You are getting in so many veggies and your dinners always look super healthy and low cal...Have you had your thyroid tested lately....I have hashimotos and it really does slow down metabolism

Up early......new blood pressure monitor arrived yesterday and it doesn't work...so will be repackaging that later to send back...what a hassle...will buy one in person somewhere next time....have to stay home today and wait for a call...and ups...so tomorrow...I will be shopping...today no. 

Breakfast = coffee , cake and kielbasa

Lunch= beets, ham and mac and cheese

Snack = candy and small granola bar

dinner= ham sandwich and apple with almond butter
