Sick with bronchitis and flu - began Wednesday - called the dr and got a Z pack to knock it out - on day 3 today and will finish scropt on Sunday..

I am determined to continue working out  - even if it means just stretching for 30 - 40 min

I did walk on the treadmill for 30 min but at a low incline 1.5 at speed 2.7 - that was enough to get me sweating and hopefully getting rid of all the toxins and I kept from coughing up a lung.

Weigh in at the gym is tomorrow and I must be under 200 to start.  I know it may not be reasonable, but I'm hoping. If we take off sneakers I should be good.  Even if it is 199 I'll be happy.  Then I guess my goal will be 2 lbs per week for the next 12 weeks.  I think the hardest thing for me to accept is that when you are working out you are building muscle and that weighs more, but I suppose the body fat meter will indicate what % my body fat is.  I already decided that I have to work out at least 2x per day if I am going to make any progress but I must get over this sickness first. 

I have a meeting with a nutritionist on the 19th and I'm very excited to meet with her.  I'm not much of a cook but she did tell me to really take in the veggies between now and the time I meet wtih her and see if I notice a change.

I feel like I know all this information - but becasue I don't apply it to my life, I guess the reality is I'm not as smart as I thinnk.

Well, I have to be at work shortly,  tempted to take a few hours off, but I am swamped with a 'to do list'.

If I can just stay focused - I'll be good.

New slogan for me paraphrased from Ben Franklin:

If you fail to plan you plan to fail = set out gym clothes  = get to bed early  and pop up when alarm goes off!!

Map a meal plan and stick to it - keep it reasonable  - don't starve but  be sure you are burning more than you take in and most of all

Take time to STRETCH those muscles.  I am not 18 any more and the risk of injury is great.  Boht knees get synthetic cartledge so I must be careful and watch impact.

I just found out some  Giant Food Stores have a nutritionist on duty you can call and scheduel an appointment.  They charge 20 dollars but then give you a 20 dollar Giant gift card to use for your food purchases - I have a call in to them  - just waiting to hear back.

No word from the clothing store - but that is okay - If it is meant to be  - it will be - if not  - more time to exercise!!

Weigh in is Saturday between 11:30 and 2 - I have  my clothes picked out  - just like the biggest loser clothes - bike shorts and sports bra - with that photo I MUST work out and tone and transform.

Had a great mroning

Went to gym for info session at 9am - Trainer went over the contest rulses and contestant offers during the 12 week sessions.

After the meeting I went to the lady equip room and began my 45min workout - did the elliptical for one mile in 15min  - that is a record for me  - heart rate stayed up in the 180's for most of the workout.   I know that sounds high but that is good for me.  Then I did some weight training and stretches.  After the gym I ran into a homeless man and bought him a take out lunch.  He was so sad - not sure if he was 'out fo it' or not but I feel really bad for him.  I can't imagine he gets much support in the  location where he sits - but at least he had some healthy food for today.

I have an interview at a local dress shop today at 3 - but I am bringing with me a list of days I am not available due to the contest.  I am only applying for a Sat and Sun position and the contest has sessions on several saturdays from now until May.  I suppose if the interviewer sees this list she may feel she was looking for someone who is more available.  Well, I have to try - it is one of my favorite stores and it will be a nice break from my teaching all week.  It will be like a hobby job. I can't imagine they will have a very high wage, but if can get a discount on some clothes  - it may be worth it - especially if I am going to really work out this body via this contest.  I also think the job at the store will be a nice diversion that will help me plan my week better.  Sometimes  I feel if I am busy  - I will be a better organizer of my time and really take the gym seriously.  And, weekends is often an awful time to over eat - if I am bored - I eat.  if I am busy - I  will make plans to  eat right!!

Well, maybe I will leave a little early and visit a couple shops near the dress shop.

Decided to sleep in today - up at 5:50

I really like them b/c they are simple to follow and free!!  I still plan to go to the gym tonight.

 

Breakfast

large bowl of cheerios/milk

coffee

 

Lunch - chicken salad sandwich and grapes

Work out at gym at 3:30 - 4:45.

Dinner - salad with strawberries and slice of bread

 

Then going to info session at gym tomorrow morning - sorry for babbling - but I have to keep myself upbeat about this as I am getting more nervous about the photo and the committment.  One day at a time Right!!  One day at a time!!  I already paid for this contest so I am going to really do my best - I want to win my money  back LOL - and yes get healthy!!

I must just focus on today!  Tomorrow will be here and all will be well.

Up at 4:50

Made coffee, ate greek yougert, small bowl of honey nut cheerios

Went to gym - stretch for 15-20 min bike for 15 min 2.5 miles - heart rate up to 171 which is good for me  - not out of breath at all.  If I had my preference, I choose the elliptical but the ellipticals were taken - already at 5 am!!  So I did what I had to do and was okay with that.

 

The contest starts in 9 days - I'm hoping to lose at least 8 lbs so I can start at 190 at the weigh in - but I am sure I will weigh more at the gym since I'll have clothes on.  I feel like I am determined and if I take the slow and steady approach (not get anxious) I will do fine.  I'm still concerned about the photo.  I am reading Ali's book (the biggest loser from a few years ago - and she said someone asked her if she was going to wear her shorts above the belly button or below the belly button??  With my muffin top - I am tempted to wear it above - then when the final week rolls around I can wear it below and really show off (haha - I am really getting cocky now!!)

Well, must go and make tuna salad to prep for lunch so I don't eat all the christmas chocolate instead!!

Good way to begin the new 2013~

Up at 4:50

Breakfast - toast and pb and milk and coffee

5:20 arrive at gym

5:25-5:40 - stretch

5:40 - 6:00 Elliptical on level 10 for 17 min and level 6 for 3 min cool down.

 

Love my daughter for suggesting getting an ipod and for putting music on it -the music really helps me stay on track with the exercise and forget about the time and wanting to quit - I just keep to the music and before I know it my one mile and 20 min is up.

6:00-6:10 arm weights and stretch legs

Home for coffee and fruit juice and vitamines

Now time to get ready for work!  Praying I don't poop out at 1or 2pm but I am prepared because this is a life style change not just a fad.  I will tell myself now - bed by 9 no later!!

The contest starts Jan 12 and I hope to be at 190 ish to begin this contest.  I tried on my 'before clothers and it is scary'  I think this photo is going to motivate me more than winning the prize.  Seeing my belly and muffin top is not pretty and I honestly ignored it all this time.  But - If I am steady and constant - I can really pull this off.  I used to be a swimmer in jr hi and hi school - and my girlfriend (God love her) says I have that swimmer's body hiding inside. 

One day down is only one day  - pray that I can keep going.

Anyone have any good self help books to read?  I just purchased the book about Ali - the biggest loser from a few years ago.  I hope to learn her determination and drive and adopt it as my own.

My gym has great trainers - but I cannot affort to hire one so I am on my own herre - many many people have done this on their own so I too can do this!!

Just returned from a trip to the sunny south of florida.  Spending Christmas day by the pool was awesome!!  I only had one day where I indulged in some fine dining but the rest of the week was healthy.  I wasn't as active as I should have been.  My son went to the gym 3x a day b/c he couldn't stand being by the pool all day.

Now that I am home I am reading a book about metabolism and hormones and learning all the things that are really common sense - eaty moderately, exercise 5 hours per week, get enough sleep.  Did you know that when you get to a certain sleep state a hormone kicks in and burns energy.  If you don't ever get to that sleep you can actually stop your metabolism.  Hmm.. never knew that.

I do realize I will be making a whole life style change to make this biggest loser challenge.  I dread the photo that has to be taken before we begin. Most photos I have seen the girls wear a sports bra and bikni bottoms - I think for me I will wear bike shorts and a sports bra. 

I also have my interview for the dress shop this Saturday.  I told them in my application that I could only work Saturday and Sunday.  I have a list of Saturdays where the gym is hosting workout sessions so I will bring that list in with me to let the shop know that I can come in after the workout.  Like at 10:30.  They open at 10 so that sholdn't be a problem.  I suppose if they thing I am too picky they will tell me I'm not what they are looking for and I can live with that.

Well, my eggs just buzzed so I will close my diary for now.

Just receieved a call for a part time weekend job  - imagine, fitting in the weekend job and the gym and full time teaching.  Well, when it rains it pours!  Maybe this is a good sign and the new schedule will force me to be organized with my time = stop the reruns of law and order = stop the internet backgammon games = focus on what is important in life which is get healthy, provide for my children and eating right.

My daughter just asked me if I had to make a choice between the pt job or the gym what would I do  - I told her there was not choice  - I had to do both.  I might be crazy, but I must invest in both the job and the gym. 

May I just follow the rule of getting good sleep and not be hard on myself if I have a bit of a transition stage where I might get a little moody.  I do think that is normal to a degree.  But  - if I find the stress too great - I will make that decision later.

2013 will be my Year!~! 

I will take one day at a  time.  I used to be a very organized person, so I just must get back to that place.  I can do this - I must do this.

Starting Jan 5 - I have my interview and Jan 12 I begin the gym program.

As for now - I will enjoy the holidays, my family and my friends!!

Tuna in brine is a good choice as it's really low cal but good protein - extra light or fat free mayo. I eat peanut butter made with no added sugar. Whole grain bread. Chicken or turkey breast always a good low cal/low fat choice. I used to do those diet packaged meals but it's best to avoid them if you can. Beans/lentils are a good source of protein.

Forgot to add big salads with fat free or no salad dressing. Add some boiled egg or chicken or tuna and a few walnut pieces for protein.

Hello,

 

My gym has just posted a 12 week contest beginning in January. I would like to lose 60 lbs (5 lbs per week). The gym takes before and after photos and I don't want skin hanging - I want to really do this right. Can anyone advise me on good gym tips.

I found a great youtube series called fitness blender that I plan to use in the mornings that I don't go to the gym. I know I need to be realistic but I really want to win this and the motivating factor is that the winner of our local gym will be entered to win a big money prize nationally.

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. I know 60 lbs in 12 weeks is a loftly goal - but hopefully I can get some tools in my tool box for discouraging days and build my motivation up.

Worked out well yesterday - 12 min on elliptical only 3 breaks in the momentum  them 20 min on treadmill = total 2 miles and 30 min, really broke a sweat and felt like I worked hard.

Did some target exercises on the machines - always fun when my daughter is there with me - she encourages me to keep at it!

A little frustrated with my weight  -  as it went up a lb - but I'm hoping that is b/c I'm building muscle  - guess I should not get discouraged - I did not grow this weight in a week so I won' t lose it in a week either.  Must keep up and keep going!

I think I am going to increase my water intake this week and see if it helps some.

I wouldn't fret since it may be sodium. Also, when do you weigh in? If its right after working out, thats not a good idea cause our bodys swell a little....so if you need to weigh in after a workout, try for 2 hours :)
