Cybermom4 - Thursday May 31, 2012
(3 meals per day)
Weight: 192.4

Was very excited yesterday - went back on the elliptical and had a full 12 minute workout - 1 mile of distance.  Only had to pause 3 times for about 30 seconds each to let my right thigh muscle relax - but that was far far better than the day before - the day before I could barely do anything on the elliptical - I thought I'd die.  But I braved it again and feel like I am on my way to mastering it!  My goal is to keep adding one minute or more - until I can stay on it for 30 min.  Until then, I will combine the elliptical for 12 min and treadmill for 20 min then a cool down for 3 min.  Then I do a few machines but I don't really count them b/c I feel like the real work is when I'm sweating to the beat of my feet!!

I can't get over how strong I feel - I have to give credit to my baby daugher ( now 17) for talking me into going to the gym.  I LOVE the ladies room - it has frosted glass windows all along the one wall so it is light and bright there and it is so clean and the equipment is amazing.  Let's hope I can keep this spirit up all summer!!

Goal weight  - here I come!

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 42.4 lbs to go!

Excellent work at the gym!

Good workout =) have a great day

thenewMLE on 05/31/2012:
Great progress on the workout! The elliptical kicks my butt and I have never managed more than 3 minutes!! I thought after months of riding my bike that I would be ready for the challenge and still my threshold is 3 minutes! Keep on adding slowly and enjoy your gym experience. Have a great day!

Yes!! Here's to another successful day :)

Cybermom4 - Tuesday May 29, 2012
(3 meals per day)
Weight: 192.4

Mon May 21 - joined gym

Tues May 22 - walked 1.25 miles in 30 min - avg about .25 mil / 5 min and did a 5 min cool down

Wed May 23 - skipped - had appt with trianer but they overbooked and I never got my turn

Thurs May 24- Daughter # 4 birthday -

Friday May 25 - walked 1.5 miles -  and boy do I sweat!

Sat May 27 - walked 1.5 miles-

Sunday May 28 - walked 1.5 miles -- used fat burn setting on machine  - worked good

Monday May 29 walked 1.5 miles- used fat burn setting on machine - did not work good- went back to manuel

The past few days have been easy to attend gym as I was off work from Friday to monday -

Back to work today - I am making a plan - that I will break my lunch break in two 15 min segments - one at lunch and then at 3:15 so I can get changed and then leave for the gym right from work - hopefully missing crazy traffic.  I think making a plan is good - lets just hope I stick with it  - I must.  I already dropped one dress size - my weight is not dropping yet but I'm not going to grumble  - as long as I feel good and begin to look good in my clothes - it is all worth it!

Does anyone else out there have a strangely high heart rate?  I had blood work done, my bp is good and my last trainer (about 3 years ago) gave me some spot checkes and determined that I just have a high exercise heart rate.  It gets real high when exercising and drops consistently to relatively normal within a few minutes.  I was told as long as I can talk and am not breathing heavy during workout - it is just my heart.  My daughter who is an EMT stated that it is better to have a low resting heart rate b/c it shows your heart is not working as hard to do the job of circulating the blood. - any thoughts?

Well wish me luck on my plan - you see I figured if I hit the gym everyday for 200 days - it costs me 1.87 per day - which is cheaper than some coffees - so haha, I guess I am motivated by the cost of the gym and making sure I use it and getting my money's worth!

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 42.4 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 05/29/2012:
Hi there! When you say you have a strangely high heart rate - what are you saying? Are you talking about your resting heart rate? Your heart rate while working out? You need to calculate your resting heart rate and then know when you are working out at optimal levels.....there is less emphasis on that these days than on "perceived" exertion - which I think is what you are talking about when you talk about being able to talk through it, etc. I don't know about not breathing heavily. I sure breath heavily when I am mounting a hill on my bicycle. As you get more fit, though your heart rate should drop with the same exertion - over time. Here is some information on it all: http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Your-Target-Heart-Rate. Hope this helps. Keep working out, girl!!

V on 05/29/2012:
Congrats on dropping a dress size :) And great job with the gym! Have a good one

LeakingLife on 05/29/2012:
If it concerns you, I'd see a cardiologist just to be on the safe side. Are you on any medications or do you drink a lot of caffeine that might exacerbate the high exercise heart rate? Do you have ABNORMALLY high blood pressure DURING EXERCISE?

I'd want to know if it's something that I'd never had happen before. Good luck!

ps on this one, I'd trust a trainer as far as I could throw 'em--haha--they're a dime a dozen and they're certainly not familiar with your medical history.

Hello everyone,

Due to my daughter;'s encouragement  - I have joined a gym.  They have a special ladies room with a special restroom and sauna and it is amazing.  The one day special that my daughter founds  prooved to be a real deal.  We have a monthly contract and can cancel at any time.  The price is very reasonalbe and this one day sale waived the major fees.  If I go to the gym 7 days week for 200 days, it will be like paying 1.86 / day.  Heck~ cheaper than starbucks coffee.

I am motivated to do this thanks to my daughter.  I have my first appt with the trainer to learn the equipment on Wed at 6:30pm.  For now all I need to know is how to use the treadmill and maybe the bike ANd what weight he recommends I begin using for building strength.  I do have a lower back problem so I have to be careful.  I just had my knee injections for synovial fluid so I shold be okay there.

I am going to weigh myself every wednesday morning and keep up with journaling here better.  I thinnk I am ready for a new life - of health and strength and good habits.

I might still go tonight if I feel motivated but I have a meeting in town and will be walking in the rain (ugg) quite a bit.  But  - on the other hand - that may motivate me to get to the gym at 6 - assuming I get home before 6ish.

Well, I'm rambling and I just wanted to say - look out scale - I'm shooting for losing 30 lbs  by end of August!!  Hopefully that is not too great a goal.  I know it will be slow going at first - I've seen enough 'biggest losers' shows - but I must must must stick with this - now that I am financially bound - i can do this!!  And with my daughter's support.

Does anyone have any workout suggestions?  My plan was to walk the treadmill for 30 min and see if I can do 2 miles - then lift some weights for my arms,.  Then build form there.  That would be about a 45 - 50 min workout.  Just pray that the treadmill is available or I'm all messed up.  Guess I'll have to leave lady room and go to the big room  - but I'm determined to do this!

I keep remembering at least 3 - 4 years ago when I walked daily with my frinend - I lost 20 lbs so quick and we just walked the park for an hour or so - we did at least 3 - 5 miles.  the nice thing about that was we talked the whole time and never realized how good we were doing haha!!  All that to say that walking will do the trick - if I just start out and do it!!

Now for a bowl of granola cereal - and off to work.

Progress as of today: 7.4 lbs lost so far, only 42.4 lbs to go!

V on 05/22/2012:
Hey there! Congtats on joining the gym..Maybe you can get with one of the trainers at the gym to help you create a routine? I hope you have a good day!

supercheese on 05/22/2012:
sounds like the gym i go to!! i like the ladies room...sometime the big men are intimidating....My workout suggestion is 10 mins warm up, 20 mins of whatever strength, and then 30-40 mins of cardio....Walking seriously helps though!!

Umpqua on 05/22/2012:
Congrats on the gym, looks like you're doing great!

nunnermack on 05/22/2012:
Yay!! Joining a gym is a nice thing to do for yourself. I'm interested in your knee injections as I have bum knees myself. Is that 'filler' or is it for pain?

Does anyone have any suggestions for 'self talk' that gets you off the couch and out walking or to the gym?  I'm not doing very well and I think I really need to 'renew my mind'.  As I am now - I am 'slowly losing pound per pound' but I know if I were to dedicate myself to walking - I'd be amazxing.  But my mind keeps thinking "oh well, youre fine - you look nice enough - so your a littel overweight - your not terrible etc..  I just don't have the get up and go - even with the beautiful weather and my prior knowledge that waling at the park does indeed shed the pounds for me.

Any suggestions needed and welcomed.

Thank you.

I have the same problem! Only think that has worked consistently for me has been recruiting a walking buddy. That way I am forced to go even if i want to be lazy and vice versa. When i am by myself i listen to music so i dont get bored. Maybe try a reward if you cant find a reliable buddy. Like..."if i walk 5 times this week I will reward myself with...". Eventually you could make the reward a nice new pair of walking shoes or whatever else you are wanting :) i keep a walking chart too and love to see it filled with stickers at the end of the month. Hope at least one of those suggestions helps! Have a great day! (and enjoy your walk if you take one ;))

Umpqua on 04/10/2012:
Sunshine! It will make you feel even better and get you into a cycle of getting up and out more.

cybermom4 on 04/10/2012:
GReat ideas - I like the idea of setting a goal for the end of the week. Maybe I can get a buddy to work with me on this. Maybe if I agree with a buddy to walk at least 3 X week for 1.25 miles each, she and I can go out for a salad or simple dinner. I'm going to have to try this.

Thank you everyone. Have a super afternoon.

Had a fun day of pampering  -

Had a morning of coffee and reading; then off to return some items I bought for my son at TJ Max and ended up finding two dresses that fit and slimmed the tummy :)    Found a very cute white vase with a pink gerber daisy for my newly painted bedroom (thanks to my son and his wife).  Then off to get my hair done and finished up with a quickk stop at Marshall's and found a great computer bag and jacket.  Can't decide if I should wear a dress or the jacket to church tomorrow :)  (such decisions)  and dropped another .6 lbs -  yippee.

Well if it is raining tomorrow it will be the jacket - if it is sunny - definitely a dress - but saving one for Easter since it has pink floral on top and black on bottom.

One disappointment was the rain today was heavy enough to drop too many pedals on the magnolia tree :(    The ground looks pink and pretty but I wish I had taken a photo of the tree yesterday - I meant to but never did.

Well - off to watch a law and order and to get my intake of water before it gets too late - hate drinking too close to bed time.

Have a super night!

Progress as of today: 4 lbs lost so far, only 45.8 lbs to go!

OH my this has been a stressful week with work and children.  My babies are growing up and there are intense growing pains that come along with this.  I've been traveling for work and eating small portions.  Happy to say I did not gain weight but lost .4 oz - Not sure how that happend but I'm going to be happy with this.  Restaruant food is so tempting and being in hotels is very relaxing unless you go to the workout room (which I did not).

I did have good company with a co worker and our work was successful.  Now it is Spring and time to get out in the sunshine.  All our daffodiles are in bloom and I just planted pansys in the patio containers.  It is delightful.

Went to the dr. today to check out my right knee - went for X rays and hope to have a visit with ortho dr,. soon.  For some reason, my leg locks up at the knee when I am in bed at night.  It is very painful to move.  I have to move it slowly and once it is in bent position the pain goes away and I have full movement.  DR. thinks maybe a piece of miniscus is trapped in there .   I actually have a copy of the x ray on cd but I have no clue what I am looking at.  Tried to compare my images to some online, but still don't have a clue.  Guess I'll have to wait for the verdict

Well - I wish everyone a great weekend - and Happy Spring!!

Kim.

Excited today as it is my oldest son't birhtday.  He will be 23.  He's been married a year and 1/2 now and we are going to his home and gathering with his wife's family too,  They are all very nice and we always have a good time with them.  I made a big bowl of watermelon, blueberries, and apples to share but,   I am going to have this instead of cake.  I must not let a birthday bash add 3 lbs to my scale!!    NO NO NO!!  you know, I don't even feel like I want to eat cake and I am a cake junkie!!  - I actually feel sure I will be able to say 'no thank you' and not feel 'deprived'.  Maybe it is the early mroning mood I'm in, or maybe it is being proactive with the fruit - but I feel pretty good I can stick with my plan.  And I am taking all your advice and going to switch to more water instead of sweetend tea and soda.  - I may have to treat myself to a cup or two occasionally, but the water plan sounds good!  Also, I think when we get home from the b-day gathering - I will try to talk myself into walking at the park.

Have a super Sunday Everyone!!

Happy THursday!

I cannot wait for the weekend as I did not get to walk all week   That was totally my fault - but of course my excuse is due to my work schedule.  I suppose even if I were to walk on weekends that is better than not at all!

I was so proud of myself yesterday - my friend and I went to lunch and we both ordered soup and bread.  We did not eat all the bread and enjoyed our soup - without the sandwich!!  I almost never get soup without a sandwitch b/c I want to save it for the next day's lunch - but I decided I needed to take one day at at ime and only eat for the day and plan for tomorrow.  Eating small meals and drinking lots of water.

I made a discovery last month  = I had stopped drinking iced tea and went to diet soda - and 'yes ' gained weight .  so no I only have soda in the mid morning as a 'pick up' and coffee and water other times.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Progress as of today: 3.4 lbs lost so far, only 46.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 03/08/2012:
Congrats on your loss! Tea and iced tea are much better for us than diet soda and I just love unsweetened iced tea with lemon. As for the walking, any type of exercise helps so do it on weekends or whenever you can!

I quite drinking diet soda over a month ago and now I don't miss it at all. Hope you have a good day and congrats, too! :-D

hollybelle on 03/08/2012:
Yes, I think the diet soda is not so good. I have drank it since I was about 14 years old! Started with TAB, believe it or not - nasty stuff it was! Anyway - I only drink the diet drinks now - coke or pepsi when I have 1) Pizza or 2) Mexican food...... So that keeps it reasonable. I stick with water all day. I have had to really work at this as drinking water felt really strange.

Dear DD and Friends,

I have only been able to do the one walk as our weather took a cold spell and my joints are sensitive to this  - so instead I have been doing exercises in the AM.  I was wondering how often you post your scale weight.  I was thinking every week - as if I do it daily my numbers will be all over the place.  Plus it seems like a weekly number will allow me to see solid progress not just a good day here and a bad day there.  I won't lie, I want instant results - but I must have a better attitude - taking things slow and steady and building my body strength and stamina.  Sometimes too - when you build muscle the weight actually gets higher b/c muscle is heavier - I must give this more time.

Cybermom4 - Friday Mar 02, 2012
(3 meals per day)
Weight: 199.8

Hello,

It has been a very long time since being on this site.  I have had so many life issues that I have let myself go.  I am not totallly upset with my looks, as I do try to wear clothes that look nice and flatter the 'curves' - but I know that I would be healthier if I would just exercise 3 X/ week.

What promptedd me this day was a dream I had about a trainer I used to have.  He had a small gym and he was very good at working with me.  In my dream his gym was all rearraged and therre were several overweight women and men working out and helping each other.  I was just watching and thinking (in my dream) I really need to be like those people.  When I woke up I pondered the dream and began to think about what led me to the trainer (as I cannot afford him now at all).  What led me to him before was I began a walking routine at my local park.  It took me about 25 min to walk the 1.25 mile and I would walk it twice to make an hour.  I did this faithfully daily over the summer and lost 20 lbs.  I felt better, stronger and healthier.  I didn't really 'watch my diet' as I am a very picky eater.  I don't eat much at all, but the meds I am on have caused me to gain weight.

So, I am here today to state, "I am ready to begin walking again and I have no excuses!!  My kids will begin track and will not be home after school - so I should not be home after work!!  We should all be busy 'being healthy!'  I choose this day as it is supposed to be sunny but even if it is not - I will wear a sweatshirt and put on my sneakers and do my walk. - Now if I could only find my headphones!  But I will not let that stop me - if I cannot find them, I will use my mini timer to pace myself.

It is hard for me to imagine that I have almost hit the 200 mark at 5'1" and even though  - I can hide it well - I am in a true sense obese!  My birthday is in May and I want to be at least 10-15 lbs lighter by then.  I think I can... I think I can...  - this is all good in writing - but I must take action.  I have set my walking clothes out along with my heart rate monitor all I need to do is NOT change my mind when 3:30 hits and it is time to go out.  Please send your 'motivational vibes my way' and hopefully I will post tonight that i was successful!!    This was taken last week and I am at my 199 mark.  I carry it all in my belly and behind - I guess I am an 'apple' but I don't really know for sure.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 49.8 lbs to go!

Thank you _ I have just returned from my 1.25 walk. It was brisk out there, but I knew I just had to keep going. I completed the path in just under 25 minutes. My legs were stiff, but I kept thinking 'keep going' ~ don't worry about tomorrow - stay in the moment and walk today.

Thank you all for your 'welcome' - I feel very encouraged today :-)
