(medifast diet)
Weight: 187.6

Well, Today my PLAN is to hit the gym - not hard  - just a simple walking for 30 - 45 minutes.  Or if the machine is taken I will use the elliptical.

My game plan is to change into my gym clothes during my lunch break and then when my shift ends - just go.  No more excuses.  I'm in my 3rd week of medifast and have lost 11 lbs from following their diet (and even cheated a little) so I'm thinking a daily dose of exercise will only enhance my progress.

I have a mental block for some reason and keep makeing excuses for not going to the gym.  My daughter suggested having a jar and putting a dollar in the jar for every workout and then after a month - I can spend the money on a new purse or clothes or shoes.  She came up with this b/c  this past Jan - April I hit the gym every day at 5 am b/c I was enterend in a biggest loser contest and the winnings motivated me.  She thought if I motivated myself with a jar of cash, maybe I would be proactive.

I wish I could make myself want to do this - I just can't seem to get the same momentum as I had in January.

Any pep  talks out there that work for you.

My daughter gave me one "you don't have to go hard, just go!"  I love that one - but my problem is 'changing and getting out the door'  How do you stop makeing excuses?

Any advice welcome!!

Progress as of today: 14.4 lbs lost so far, only 37.6 lbs to go!

That's a great suggestion, love it! So cool to work towards something! Good luck :)

cybermom4 on 11/18/2013:
Thank you ;)

liza36 on 11/14/2013:
Changing clothes and getting in the car is the hardest part of going to the gym. I've experienced it myself. Changing during your lunch break is a good idea. I would change at work too, then I'm all ready to go so when I'm driving home, it's easier to go straight to the gym than home. I like the cash idea too. Having a workout buddy is helpful. I didn't think so in the past, but I really loved it when my friend would come with me. Good luck!!

liza36 on 11/14/2013:
Congrats on your loss as well! You are doing great.

Umpqua on 11/15/2013:
This new plan is really working for you, congrats on the loss!

legcramps on 11/15/2013:
Get warmed up while you're still at work. Jump around; do some dance moves; maybe a karate kick to the air; whatever warmes you up and that will give you a bit of adrenaline to WANT to hit the gym. Also, while you're heading to the gym, blast a really motivating song - whichever one works for you - a couple of times and that will motivate you to not turn around or drive past the gym! Good luck!

(medifast diet)
Weight: 188.4

Did a good job on my water intake today but ended up sneaking some of my daughter's buffalo chicken dip and chips.  I'm not going to beat myself up though.  I will get back on track with my medifast meals tonight.

I've been learning about the raw apple cider vinegar drink 3x per day and just ordered my bottles via puritan's pride (buy 1 get 2 free sale).  Apparently ACV has great properties for a variety of health issues and though I know it is not a cure all - I think I'm willing to give it a go.  I'm betting it will need some lemon juice and sweetenr to tolerate it, but hoping the results will be worth it.

Anyone else try ACV as a supplement?

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 38.4 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 11/13/2013:
I use raw apple cider vinegar (plain--nothing added) on my salads as dressing. I like it, but even on salads it may be an acquired taste.

liza36 on 11/13/2013:
I just tried ACV straight on my salad, and it was pretty tangy! Good luck with your ACV.

Whoo hoo.........I finally broke 190 - I am so happy happy happy

This gives me such hope - my goal is when I get down about 6 more pounds I'll begin to hit the gym.

I was told to take a before photo and I did - I was skeptical to do so - but now I just might be making progress and who knows  - in another month or so I'll be taking an after photo.

Well I dont' want to jinx  my good news for today - I just can't believe it!!

Thanks for letting me share!!

Best to everyone!!

(medifast diet)
Weight: 190.0

I have started a new journey - I am on the medifast plan and despite the low calories, I have been impressed with the food and the new habit of eating every 2 1/2 - 3 hours.  I have only been on one week and I dropped 8 lbs - and I cheated yesterday (ate some cheese and pita chips with hummus and a tiny slice of frozen pizza - cooked of course)  My weight still dropped.

I know the holidays are coming so I want to do the bulk of my weight loss and really stick to this plan.  I think the reason for my cheating is a bit of PMS and I always get extra hungry at that time.  My hope is to reach my goal in two months.

THe medifast food is expensive, but when you consideer that you are only buying groceries in the meat/ fish isle and veggie isle - it is really a cost savings.  Of course my family has to eat so my husband has taken over this shopping for us.  (God bless him)

Medifast has a cool daily chart that you can down load on medifast1.com  if you like a visual daily tracking sheet this is awesome.  It makes the food journal fun and you can see your results easily.

I have never in my life tried a plan such as this but I have 4 friends who went on the plan and each lost tons of weight!!  It is exactly what it says "medi 'fast' so your caloric intake is low but since you are eating so frequeantly and drinking 8 glasses of water per day - you don't even notice.

Anyway - I am not selling the diet - just describing it  - kind of like a pep talk for myself so I can know that what I invested in is worth it for me.  I don't want to give up and I want to keep reminding myself of the weight loss I'm made so far.  I wasn't doing it on my own so I needed help.  I had some trouble on the first day where my medications were affecting my stomach and when I spoke to the nutritionist - he advised going on the veggiterrian menue which allowed for cottage cheese and yoguert - made a big difference!!  Now I am doing fine.  Still not sure if my ill feelings were an actual bug, or the medifast + meds but I am good now thank goodness.

My new goal is to post every saturday an overview of the week so I have a journal here of my progress - love seeing that bar go down.

Thanks for listening and I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried a program like medifast, or nutri system or weight watchers etc.  Just curious if you do have days for cheating and if you have been able to stick with it.  so many of you here I know from years past who have made great losses - I want to be a success story like my friends there and here,  Wish me luck!!

Happy Saturday!!

Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 40 lbs to go!

Hi, I've been doing Weight Watchers for about 2 months now. i weigh in on mondays and I have to admit that if I want to eat pizza or pasta its usually on monday night. That way I have a whole week to make up for it. The weight loss process is slow on WW, but Its forever so it gives you lots of time to get use to the eating style. I've never tried Medifast, but to loss 8 pds in 1 week is really great. Good luck

Well, tomorrow I start back to school teaching AND back to the gym.  I already have my gym clothes set out and my alarm set.  I made a To do list and set it on the table because I will be the first one up in the house.  4:45am - eat grapefruit and protein/fiber drink then off to the gym to do a 30 min walk either on the treadmill or elliptical.  Then I may treat myself to a tanning session and a hydro massage depending on the time.  Home by 6:30 where I will have time to drink water , shower and get ready for work by 7:30.

I just found out my work will pay a portion of my gym membership so that is motivation too.

All I need to do now is make up a chart so I can journal my food intake.  I have a meeting with the nutritionist on the 17th and I want to show her I can indeed eat healthy dinners.  Last session, we worked on building breakfast into my schedule (I was a meal skipper) and she is retraining my thinking.

I'll be able to start out well with dinner tomorrow - as we have an award dinner to attend for my daughter.  Just have to be sure I eat right and small portions.

Anyone here recommend weight watchers - I think my work will pay for portions of this membership too and I wondered if it was worth it and how it works?

Thank you and Happy Labor Day!!

Hi, Mom. WeightWatchers worked for me, 20something pounds. But I didn't rejoin cause it costs too much. The "points " plan helped me a lot. Good luck and eat your breakfast.

Haven't been to the gym in months.  My husband lost his job July 1 and I have been working extra this summer to add additional income.  Unfortunately my weight is slowly creeping up again.  My clothes still fit, but the weight is adding up?

Had a colonoscopy and need to change my diet to help improve colon health.  Meeting with nutritionist today to make a menu to get me started on a right path.  I know I need to get to the gym even just to walk, but I am so unmotivated.  Any words of inspiration welcome.  My daughter gave me a cute note that said "you don't have to go hard, just go!"  I love that because it really take the pressure off and gives you credit for what you do do.

Well, I will try to relax for my last two weeks of summer before returning to teaching.  My this summer whet super fast!!

YOU all seem to be doing so well.  Pray I can get motivated and that I would not worry about my husband's job situation.  tough with 3 kids in college but we will do what we need to make things happen.  Time will tell.

THank you for your support!!

OhioRaven on 08/06/2013:

Umpqua on 08/06/2013:
Sorry this has been such a touch summer for you. I like your daughter's note - wise words! I agree with Ohio, keep posting here and it will become a habit and the healthy eating and exercise will follow as habits/routines.

legcramps on 08/06/2013:
It's hard to find motivation when you've got so many other things on your plate. I really like your daughter's note to you - which is absolutely correct - and I think you could really use it to motivate you to get outside for a quick 10 minute walk after dinner each night. It's a great start, and the fresh air and extra alone time to think will do you some good!

hollybelle on 08/06/2013:
Job loss is stressful - but experience has been that it gets so much better after that - chances are a new start is in the making and something even better! I love your daughter's comment - I am so guilty of thinking "if I can't do it all I won't do any". So instead of taking an hour walk, I need to think - take a 10 minute walk. Just go....I love that. 3 kids in college - wow! You will have stories to tell when this is behind you! I'll be praying for you all. God bless and KEEP POSTING!

Hello - anyone have any good diets for diverticulosis?  Was just diagnosed with severe case and other than increasing fiber, can't find too much on this.  I'm looking for some menus or recipes  - I am very scared that I will get worse and have to have surgery or a colon bag!  God forbid!!

Any websites or suggestions welcome.

Hope everyone is doing well  - we are having a 100 degree heat wave now.

Not sure if I can help Mom. Ive ate sauerkraut all my life and I'm ok in that aspect. Might wanna check first though.

biscottibody59 on 07/19/2013:
You might go to amazon and check out reviews for McDougall's "Digestive Tune-Up." It may lead to recommendations on the page for some other books that pertain more to your particular situation.

To me, you don't want to do any more damage and if your dr has you on a particular diet now to limit inflammation/pain, then continue to follow that.

I've never had diverticulosis/-litis, but when I had terrible problems with constipation in my 20s (from the effects of tetracyclines) I began paying attention to my fiber intake. I am a huge fan of miller's (wheat) bran. The Bob's Red Mill bran is fairly course (and widely available). You could begin by adding it to anything you eat. Start out with maybe a tblspn and work your way up.

Also increase your vegetable and fruit intake. Drink lots and lots and lots of water if you don't already.

Some other sources of fiber are psyllium seed (don't bother with metamucil, which has it) and ground flaxseed. Get the actual thing and add it to your foods. To me the easiest thing to add fiber to is oats. You could add it to yogurt or soups or whatever suits you.

Also a very effective and enjoyable cereal is Uncle Sam--it has whole flaxseed that is good for promoting gut mobility.

I wish you well--I hope you get past this!

OhioRaven on 07/19/2013:
Good tips, Biscuit !

biscottibody59 on 07/19/2013:
Also, two things that should be fairly non-inflammatory and worth trying, would be brown rice (I prefer the short-grain variety) and beans. There are so many choices of no-fat added canned beans if you don't want to make your own. Homemade hummus is easy to make, but the store version would also be worth a try if you've never tried it.

It may be that you have to adjust your tastes to include more fiber, but like you mentioned better than letting your situation get out of hand. Even small gradual changes can benefit you.

Remember that meats, eggs and cheeses contain NO fiber, so if you want to keep eating those things for meals, include a good amount of fibrous vegetables with those meals.

hollybelle on 07/19/2013:
Good info from Biscotti. I will add that avoiding certain foods that set it off is helpful - things that have seeds like strawberries, blackberries and even stuff that is difficult to digest like peanuts, other nuts and stuff with "husks" like corn, etc. can help. Didn't the people who diagnosed you give you any guidelines? Gee, you'd think they would do more than tell you what you have and include some management info. Also - you may consider a few sessions with a good nutritionist.

Hello, Can someone advise me on how to access the webmaster. I still don't have the tool bar to enter a post. I tried a search in the directory and found webmaster data, but no way to contact him/her.

On a personal note, I had my synvisc shots in my knees this week and gained 5 lbs!! I can barely walk due to the fluid in my knees - it is slowly getting better, but the stiffness is still here. Our school weigh in is on Thursday at noon. I sure hope I can drop the pounds I gained with the injections. Medical set backs are very discouraging. I am hoping to get to the gym today to just walk slowly on the treadmill. No rushing, just steady walking to get the knees moving again. I had my first good night sleep since Tuesday. Maybe it was the pain reliever I took - but it was good to sleep without waking up to stiff knee pain. My friend who is a nurse said that back in the day - when thy injected liquid qold into the knee, it took patients almost two weeks to recover. So I should be glad for a 6 day recovery time. Don't get me wrong - I was still getting around to the store and the hair dresser - but I walked like I was 85 and in low heels. Fashion before pain right??? I wanted to add a photo of a new dress my son and d-in law gave me via a gift card. It is really cute and a size smaller. I am actually in ladies sizes now and not 'women's' - even with the knee fluid weigh gain - guess it is all in my knees. Anyway - if anyone can advise me to the webmaster I'd be grateful.

Thank you ;)

It's on this page: http://www.dietdiaries.com/terms.cfm

This is their DDs diary: http://www.dietdiaries.com/blogs.cfm?theNickname=DDwebmaster and the email is on their bio there too.

However, if you're using Explorer as your browser, something you can try is to change the compatibility view. There's a torn paper icon next to the web address and click on it so that it's activated.

Hope that helps!

For some reason my tool bar is missing for my post. I am so excited - I finally broke the 180's!! not by much - but the scale was on my side today!! Only 16 more days until my school does the weigh in. If I can lose another 5-6 lbs I will be a happy camper. Don't think I'll win the contest. Didn't win the gym contest :( but it was so worth the motivation to keep going. Can't believe I've lost 22 lbs so far. I'm moving slow but steady.

If anyone else is having trouble with the tool bar and has a solution - please share.

Thank you and have a great day!!

Happy Spring everyone,

I am feeling pretty good this week as I have lost 2 lbs and that is without hitting the gym all week due to school testing.  I even ate a good lunch each day and a light dinner. I am learning that starving yourself is not the way to go.  Eating healthy is the way to go.  Fresh fruit for breakfast and a med cheesy chicken tortilla is ok.

April 27 we will have our celebration meeting at the gym to see who the winners are for the biggest loser.  I know I did not win, but I am excited to go and find out.  At the time of the weigh in I lost 6.6 % of my body weight which was 13 lbs over the 12 weeks of the program.

As of today I lost 10% of my body weight based on when I started here on Dec 29.

At school we are having a biggest loser contest with everyone - not just age groups - so the chances of winning are slimmer.  I weighed in at 191 and BMI was 36.  UGG that sounds so aweful - but as my daughter would say - "when you go to the gym  - you don't have to go hard, just go!!"  Slow and steady.  I may not win the race, but I will always be making progress.  I have to remember this is a lifestyle change not just a gimmick.

My cholesterol went up since last year and now I have to go on meds - I was shocked b/c of all the exercise and healthy eating, but guess i'll follow dr orders.

Has anyone ever heard of Advocare weight management?  One of my student's gave me some literature and a free sample.  Seems like a scheme to me but there are lots of testimonals out there so not sure.    Not sure if you can get the same quality at GNC or Puritan's Pride - need to do more research.  Any feedback welcome including recommendations for energy powders that you mix with water.

Thank you :)

Progress as of today: 20.8 lbs lost so far, only 39.2 lbs to go!
