(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 135.5

Exercise: 65 minutes crosstrainer (single hill); Weight training: NONE; Calories: 1925 (something like that)

A very busy day. Got up super early to workout at the gym, because I had to go up to the old house and take care of that water in the basement mildew problem, which I did. I have to up there again tomorrow to see if the fans, dehumidifier and open windows are making a difference in drying it out. Plus, I cleaned the entire floor with bleach + water to kill the smell.

I have a confession to make. I have not been doing as well with eating as I have been reporting. Last night, I went totally overboard with some Girl Scout cookies. Last Friday and Sunday nights, I went overboard with the ice cream. So I don't expect anything positive out of this week's weigh-in, if I decide to weigh in.

I'm at a loss for words :-(

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 5.5 lbs to go!

GG on 09/11/2007:
I have a feeling why you've been going over board has something to do with the stress of selling your house! It happens to all of us and we all deal with stress differently! I wish you the best of luck on selling your house and making it look spic-and-span! My family and I just went through the process of selling out house (it was on the market for 5 years) and it finally sold on Aug. 2...it does take time, but I am sure you will have a LOT better luck then us!!! Dont get too down on splurging on some goodies: it is not the end of the world!

biscottibody59 on 09/12/2007:
Under the circumstances--the house and stuff--you did pretty well with the cookies/ice cream. It happens! Pick yourself back up and move on as best you can!

a_v probably should have left that comment to me on MY diary. I wish she had, but be that as it may, I'm moving forward and as I said, will try to keep my head down and stick to the subject.

Hope you have a good day:-)

Sandra aka Soul on 09/12/2007:
I am finding it very helpful not to weigh myself anymore, use other indicators as a guide that you are losing weight, how do your clothes feel or how do you personally feel...that's more important than a number. Don't beat yourself up about the binge, they happen...time to move on to better days.

I'm curious why the nick "donkey"?

(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 135.5

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer + 30 min running; Weight training: 20 min upper body (machines); Calories: 1742 (2 above my limit, and I'll probably have a few more beyond this as well)

Had an awesome run this morning. Yes, even though my Husband was home, I was determined to get a run in outdoors after coming home from the gym.

I opted twice to take longer routes during my run. However, I was disappointed to see that my running time was still 30 min at best (probably closer to 25 min actually; I forgot to look at the clock before I left the house). So either I ran faster or my routes were not significantly longer (which I know NOT to be true). I'm not sure, but I'm very pleased.

Getting the kids bowling balls after school today. Hopefully my athletic daughter will not get so discouraged when she has a ball that is the appropriate weight for her age (7).

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 5.5 lbs to go!

Trying_Again_41 on 09/10/2007:
Give up on you????? Nope! No can do! What kind of support would we all be to each other if we gave up on one another that easily???? So you passed on the beer and wine but not on the ice cream ... you need to look at the positive and not the negative ... you could have totally blown it all and had all three things but you didn't! We are all a work in progress. You didn't fail me .... I thought of you this weekend when I made my food choices and if you had not participated in the weekend challenge I'm not so sure that I would have thought about those things ... so in the end, your participation provided support to me so I would say that we both had some wins over the weekend! Anyway, have a good day and kudos to you for your run today. AWESOME!

greengirl on 09/10/2007:
You are doing so well with the exercise !! Have fun with the kids :o)

ad_vitam on 09/10/2007:
I am so grateful for your continuing support and encouraging words! I needed them. I have the SB cookbook, thanks, and even a SB guide on what to eat at the restaurants, ha-ha, so I'm well-equipped:) Also I've always admired your consistency in working out, that's why I am making regular workouts an essential part of my weight loss process. I always think: if a mother of 2 small kids can do it daily, shame on you if you can't:) Keep it up and good luck with selling the house (here in Fl the real estate market is way down, not a good time to sell).

biscottibody59 on 09/11/2007:
I'm not going to quit supporting you Donkey--I just found nothing to add either on her (ad_vitam's) latest comment or the one you left. I'm not interested so much in fighting about all this as I am in enlightening the next unsuspecting soul who sees how much someone has lost in such a short time and wants to do the same. If you haven't read WorkingIt2's comment on the South Beach forum entry, please do so. Her's is definitely the cautionary tale. I don't have such a tale. I never actually TRIED to lose weight until I started here and I guess I should just keep my head down and get to my own point whilst supporting others:-)

RYC: I think thoughtful people can agree to disagree and that's probably what's happened. I left her a comment a little while ago and at that time her pounds lost per day were nearly 1/day. That's tapered off now to, by her own numbers 5 pounds/week since starting. I don't know about you, but the only way you do that (on a self-directed diet) is by eating a very-low calorie diet, probably below 1000 at the beginning. There's really not enough information in her diary to figure out the calories, but someone's not going to lose 0.7#/day by eating 1200 calories/day.

No I don't think there's any reason to correlate losing alot of weight with how bad your diet/lifestyle WAS and then picking up a healthy lifestyle. You asked her at some point how many calories she was taking in. She claimed not to be into counting calories. In my experience here, people either count or they don't count calories, WW points, portion sizes--something to make sure they are getting some semblance of proper nutrition while trying to lose weight. Or they sort of eat the same things within the realm of 1200 cals for awhile, incorporate exercise and generally lose 2 maybe 3 pounds per week. And they keep it off. If you haven't read Halley--she is a great example, though initially she was using some diet pills along with Slim-Fast and exercise. I don't think she did any fasting or skipping of meals.

Also, it may look like I'm picking on ad_vitam--she's pretty much made her choice re: her health. My last comments on her diary were actually for others who may be blown away by her "success" and want to duplicate it. Many people who find DDs may be absolutely clueless and simply know that they want to lose weight, but have no idea how to do it. Much less how to do it safely.

Hell, I've never tried Slim-Fast, but I'd rather see someone do that plan as intended than to see someone lose more than a pound a week (beyond the first couple weeks).

Hate to keep bringing up old diaries all the time, but there was a person who was completely transparent about her very low-calorie diet. She lost weight, was happy, etc. She then gained it all back. I haven't looked back at it in awhile, but I think she finally realized she needed to eat rather than starve herself.

You may want to go back and read my comments in the Forums sections: "South Beach Diet" and "What is your eating plan/lifestyle?"

That's about it--have a good day Donkey!!!

ps No need to apologize about disagreeing with me. Don't ever let that get you down. That's just life!

ad_vitam on 09/11/2007:
Sorry, Donkey to do it in your diary but I am stunned of what I just read in biscottibody59s entry: I thought my weight-loss plan has been restlessly criticized by a person who was advocating healthy weight loss, I was honestly trying to find some sense in her arguments. But Im really glad biscotibody59 revealed to me her understanding of what healthy loss is: diet based on chemicals, 100% artificial ingredients (SlimFast and the like) seems more sensible to her than eating natural foods even below 1200cal a day. By following healthy-in the-can/ meal-replacement diets which consist of low-fat milk, sugar, fructose (sugar again), cocoa, synthetic vitamins and minerals (which are scientifically proven bogus) one has 100% guarantee to fail once he starts eating real meals. I thought nowadays only someone without clue about basic dieting fundamentals doesnt know that SlimFast Diet and the like are seriously, fundamentally flawed. I not only disagree with this position I find it plain wrong and demonstrating little understanding of what healthy is. Sorry, what I said is harsh but thats what I really think, you were very outspoken about my plan, biscottibody59, well, I can be too. With all my respect to you personally and the achievement you made, your expertise on healthy weight loss looks very questionable to me now. Im not surprised any more that we have polar views on what healthy weight loss is. You can continue undermining my success (yes, without ) as you did so far wherever you go, I can't care less for the reason I just lined up. I might copy this comment in my next entry in case some unsuspecting soul will drop by making her choice between fake and real:) Thats my position and from now on I will be staying aside from any debates on this subject, I'd rather get busy losing weight that's why I'm here. Youre right about one thing: I did make my choice re: health. Have a good one!

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer (gluteal); Weight training: 25 min lower body (machines); Calories: 1560 if I can limit myself to 1 dish of ice cream)

Thoroughly discouraged Donkey today.

The ONLY good thing today was that I got to go to the gym this afternoon because Husband was home. He finally realized that he did not feel well enough to go to work. Gee, why didn't I think of that?....

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 5.5 lbs to go!

(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 135.5

Exercise: 60 minutes heavy cleaning (?); Weight Training: NONE (but worked my arms carrying sopping wet carpet); Calories: 1540

I'm logging in early because I wanted to share with you that I took measurements today. I've lost nearly another inch since my last measurement, and so that makes nearly 2 inches since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, my hips have stayed at the same measurement, and thus, I have only lost 0.5 inches off my donkey.

So I have a 28.25 inch waist and a 39.5 inch waist. Am I a Big Butt Donkey or WHAT?? And believe it or not, I am actually smaller at my hips than I am a little further down because my thighs are so big. I humored myself and measured my left thigh, and it came out to 24.5.

(And none of this would be so bad if I had a 38 chest, but sadly, I forgot to measure my chest. Last measurement of chest was 35 inches.) :-(

Let me share a Donkey story with you: I have always been a Big Butt Donkey. I remember in 8th grade (13 yrs old), I was in the school musical, and we had to make (sew) our costumes. It was a skirt and top. Well, my mother and I know squat about sewing, so we took the pattern and the material to my Grandma (yes, my Wicked Step-Grandmother of dysfunctional holiday notoriety), because Grandma can sew. She truly is the Ultimate Homemaker.

I remember that the three of us were in the Grandma's living room, by the organ, and she was taking my measurements to adjust the pattern to fit my shape. I remember so vividly how she gasped and said with HORROR on her face and in her voice: "40 INCHES -- OH MY!!" Well, guess what? Here I am, 24 years later and I still have 40 inch hips. OK, well, 39.5, but essentially the same thing. I pretty much weigh the same as I did when I was in 8th grade too.

It's been a great Donkey life.

EVENING EDIT: I get a call from the realtor that is selling our old house that we have a showing tomorrow at noon. So I quickly grab the kids together and we drive the 45 minutes up to the town where our old house is.

I stop at Walmart to pick up some cleaning supplies and decorations. I head to the house because I figure all I have to do is sweep and wipe off the kitchen/bath surfaces.

OMG. See, a couple of weeks ago when we had really bad storms, our sump pump in the old house failed to function. I don't know if that's because we lost power or because the guys that sealed up the sump (for radon gas purposes) messed up with the pump. So we had "a little" water in the basement per my Husband who went to check it last week.

OMG. I get to the house this evening, and save the basement for last. Well, friends, now we not only STILL have a water problem (because the throw rugs were still sopping wet), but now we probably have a mold and mildew problem as well. BECAUSE HUSBAND DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM THE RIGHT WAY THE FIRST TIME!!!

So I'm dragging sopping wet rugs up the stairs and through the newly floored kitchen out to the garage. Then I load them into my trunk. Then I wipe dry the kitchen floor because it is very important NOT to damage that with water. Then I go downstairs and sweep the water on the floor into the drain. Then I wipe the water that dripped out of the rugs that fell onto the stairs leading FROM the basement to the first floor. There was so much water on the stairs that I could afford to give them a good scrubbing.

I am SURE that the basement and stairs will still be wet tomorrow for the showing. If it were not for the basement, the house would be immaculate.

I am so angry with Husband for not taking care of this problem the right way when he was up there. Could have been dried and not stank so much. Instead, the basement stinks, there's mold/mildew and it's still wet down there (from the rugs). And **I** got stuck doing all the work!!!

But I can't be mad at Husband because he is a 911 dispatcher and his job is stressful enough. He's been working 12 hour shifts (overtime) because we need the money. He's not feeling good. He's neglecting his house and family at home. But then he goes and does something like this.

I am SO DONE with that house.

So we come home at 8:00 famished. I eat a ton of food. I'm stuffed. I'm gassy. I find that I've offended GG. AAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!!!

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 5.5 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 09/08/2007:
RYC: Oh well, I guess we all have to do what works. I suppose if you wanna blame me, I'll let it slide this time haha! GG's a big girl, even though she weighs 95 pounds or so:-)

biscottibody59 on 09/08/2007:
ps if you really are upset, I AM sorry. This is a Dieting Support site and I don't think you were out of line, someone would have told you so I think. All you did was point out something that was completely overlooked in light of GG's arguably extreme diet. In fact when I first read it I thought the abcdef of it was ALLOWED, then I went back and I wondered if she could possibly be classified as malnourished by a registered dietician. GG's 20 and bulletproof--she's not going to let a little osteoporosis bother her by god!

Again, I'm sorry.

Hope you have a good day!

WorkingIt2 on 09/09/2007:
awww man sorry to hear about the water damage! I have a couple friends who are 911 dispatchers and they are always stressed out and always working mega hours. There isn't enough money in the world to pay me to do that job. I'd go insane. I take my hat off to you for being the wife of someone in emergency services, STRESSFUL for you as well!

Currently my hips are 40"...they used to be 52"...and they've been holding steady at 40" for a while now lol. The women in my family all hold our weight in our lower bodies and the men hold it in their waistlines. They have nice broad chests, nice legs, and wide centers lol. While the women have nice upper bodies and wide bottom halves. *sigh* ***Hugs*** hope you have a better day and I hope that your old house sells!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/09/2007:
hello donk donk. you weigh the same as you did in 8th grade! wow! I certainly don't. I was one of those thin, little girls that never looked her age...always a little younger - at least based on my body. In 8th grade I weighed around 85 lbs! LOL

congrats on the .5 loss in measurements! go u!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/09/2007:
why? I'm writing that in reference to what you wrote on Biscotti's post. I LIKE it when people write about my diet...or when they challenge my in my opinions. I like this site because people share their insights and views. I can go to people who are not my friends if I want to hear that I'm doing great and i should have no worries. I think its great to have people on here constantly trying to knock sense into you! I love this site and all the comments i get.

GG on 09/09/2007:
What would make you think that you offended me? All you have been doing for me is giving me really helpful and kind advice that I appreciate to the ut-most!

GG on 09/09/2007:
Please dont be down on yourself thinking you offended me, I do not get offended easily so you really dont have to worry about that! Once again I really do appreciate your comments whether you are giving me stern and serious ones, or light and fluffy ones! The only reason I continue on the diet I am on is because it makes me feel really good (except when I eat to much at dinner) and my mother and sister follow the same regime, plus it is engrained in my brain not to change and since I have been doing it for about 5 years now, I dont know any better! haha!

(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 135.5

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer; Weight Training: Upper AND Lower Body (machines); Calories: 1739 (top limit of my range, but that's ok)

As you can see, I have weighed in this morning. I also checked my Body Fat % and that is accurate, at 25.5%. I realized that I need to adjust my age on my Tanita scale, it's been so long since I checked my body fat %.

I'm posting early because I wanted to vent that it's a dirty shame that I can't leave my garage door open to even walk my daughter 2 blocks to the bus stop because I'm worried about vendors going door to door around here. Thank God it's raining today. It keeps those door-to-door salespeople A-WAY. But what a pity that I have to DRIVE 2 blocks to the bus stop. No wonder we're all fat here in America.

EVENING EDIT: Just came back from TKD belt testing. I am now the proud parent of 2 camo (dark green) belts :-)

Today was a hungry day. Some days I am hungrier than others, and today was one of those where I was hungrier. I think, without TMI, that cramps probably had to do a lot with it.

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 5.5 lbs to go!

MyJuneWedding on 09/07/2007:
still with the door to door guys huh??? Maybe a large dog would work, or and electric fence around the front door!!! lol!! HUGS!!

Sandra aka Soul on 09/07/2007:
Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes my skin is looking better each day. I am 100% raw now, almost three weeks this time. I have no patience for door-to-door salesmen/women. I am not rude but firm and only have to tell them once, it must be the look on my face that I am serious or something. It's the same face I put on when disciplining my boys, lol.

Trying_Again_41 on 09/07/2007:
Hi Donkey, Found your note on my posting ----- I'm in! Not only will I stay on program for the weekend, but I will also NOT smoke!!! No beer or ice cream for you either! Will connect with you on Monday! Have a great weekend!

greengirl on 09/07/2007:
Good on the exercise Donkey !!! What is a Tanita scale?? Ive never heard of one before. I hate salespeople who pester you unsolicited. Im usually downright rude to them but once, one ended up kicking my door and I had to call the police to get rid of him!!!

Workingit2 on 09/07/2007:
Telemarketers tick me off...door-to-door's even more! Especially the vacuum cleaner guys lol. Looks like you had some great exercise!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/08/2007:
congrats to your two "karate kids."

Thanks for your feedback this week!

GG on 09/08/2007:
What kind of vendors do you have coming to your door? What are they trying to sell? I hope nothing "raunchy" - haha! That would not be good for the kids to see! LOL! That is a shame you cannot walk your kids to school, it is so nice to be able to do that, I think that if the vendors are really a big problem, you and a couple neighbors should try and do something about it...? Oh and by the way: you were SOOO right, it was salmon I had last night: haha! What else is new: I could eat that fish EVERY day and never get sick of it! And I to think I used to HATE that fish when I was little! I remember running away from home because my mom was trying to force me to eat it! So if your daughter does not like fish right now, just wait, she will when she gets older, trust me! haha! When I was younger all I ate was pasta & butter & bread...but I think that is the staple in all young kids lives...but who knows your daughter may be a veggie eatting queen! HA! How old is she?! And how are you doing on your fiber count!? I wish I could calculate my fiber intake so I could compare it to yours but I dont really measure out my vegetable servings...but I think I might try sometime: it will be sort of like a science experiment! haha! Today I amgoing to goto a farmers market: I will think of you! hahah!

(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 0.0

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer (single hill program) + 50 min running; Weight training: NONE; Calories: 1309.

Today I had the best run outside ever of my life (4+ miles!!). A great feeling of accomplishment.

EVENING EDIT: I have to admit that the past 2 days or so, my calories have been higher than what I reported, by about 100 calories. When I start tallying up the foods for the next day, I will remember that I forgot to add a snack (usually it's my afternoon snack that I forget to add, because I have it right when the kids get home from school and it's crazy here when they get home). So omission was not intentional, nor did I plan to deceive anyone. Today is the first day that my calories are accurate, so it is a low calorie day for me. Tomorrow, the calories will be back in my range.

My calories were low because I was just crazy busy today. My Husband was not home for dinner, so dinner was not only rushed but mine was vegetarian which helped cut down the calories dramatically. I also chose NOT to resort to an alcoholic beverage to up my numbers either. Not healthy and when I drink, my "discipline" tends to disappear and I am more inclined to reach for more food.

I think it better to go to bed content or a little hungry rather than stuffed. That is a most unpleasant feeling, going to bed stuffed. I can feel my metabolism kick into high gear when that happens, literally, because I get very hot and sweaty. Gross!

I must remember to weigh in tomorrow!

greengirl on 09/06/2007:
Isnt it great when you get that feeling of accomplishment?? Well done on your exercise :o)

jon'smom on 09/06/2007:
Great job with the exercise!! Keep it up!!

biscottibody59 on 09/06/2007:
That's a great run--good for you!

I may be the only one to tell you, but the comment you left in the forum section was perfect--of course I appreciate truth in advertising:-)

WorkingIt2 on 09/06/2007:
Hooray for you!! I agree, I'd rather go to bed a little under than over! Have a great evening =)

(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 0.0

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer+ 45 min mowing the lawn; Weight Training: 20 minutes (upper body - machines); Calories: 1390.

Today was a pretty good day. I did all my exercising and also had enough time to get my chores/errands done today. Then I took the kids to bowling. That is our last bowling class. From now on, we or I will take the kids to the alley on our own where they can practice if they want. I want to make a point of going bowling more often than once every 3 years.

It was a non-running day today. I do not know if I will run tomorrow. Chance of storms forecasted, so it depends on the weather cooperating.

If you can't tell, I'm filling this entry with a bunch of useless chit-chat. I am feeling very discouraged with this format. This is the first time I have thought about taking this diary to "Private" status.

WorkingIt2 on 09/06/2007:
You are really awesome with your exercise! I totally wish I had that much motivation! My youngest LOVES bowling and is always after me to go, I'm not much of a bowler but I like watching them have fun.

What is it about the format that is discouraging? I know I got discouraged with myself and went out for a little while to take a break, I don't think there is anything wrong with it...anything you have to do to make yourself healthy and focused is a good thing!

Donkey - Tuesday Sep 04, 2007
(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 0.0

Exercise: 65 min elliptical (intervals) + 35 min running on treadmill (11-12 min mile); Weight training: NONE; Calories: 1375.

I got off to a late start this morning. But I didn't let that prevent me from running. However, I knew that I would not run outside because the sun was already making it very warm outside and it was already quite humid.

So after being on the crosstrainer after an hour, I went over to the treadmill and ran for 3 miles (and walked for 0.5 miles to cool down). I ran out of time or I might have done some weight training too. But to be quite honest, I do not like spending that much time at the gym. Well, I do but I do not think it is a healthy mind-set.

I have to admit that I much prefer running on a treadmill, but I do not consider it to be "cool" like it is to see someone running outside. This is something that I need to work out in my head and figure out what I want to do. I also realize that if I want to proceed in using a 10k training program for running, that I am going to have to cut down on my elliptical time.

This is part of getting older, unfortunately. Being limited by your body's limitations rather than your own willingness to accomplish.

I think that's all I have to say tonight. If you would like to hear more of what I have to say, I suggest you read the comments under Biscottibody's entry today.

Kia on 09/05/2007:
your doing great in all areas, way to go

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/05/2007:
what!?!?!? running on a treadmill not cool! I think its ALL about preference and what you like...i don't think either one is cooler than the other! haha.

also, if you ask me, i find a treadmill "cooler." i feel like if you can accomplish being "in place" for soooo long and without the scenery changes of outside, you can run anywhere! i give those people credit who run on treadmills because i have such a hard time with them, even walking on them!

biscottibody59 on 09/05/2007:
Article: See Jane Run, See Her Run Faster and Faster: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/30/health/nutrition/30Fitness.html

I've run in exactly one race (outside of HS track) in my life and it wasn't anything like the training. I haven't been interested in running in a race since, though I still hold out hope. I'm not going to be too bent out of shape if I don't. I'd rather just increase my fitness. I can't remember if you're actually preparing for a real race.

I value your opinion here. And I understand your wanting to protect your feelings as well (((Donkey))). I went back and reread JShawstad and what you wrote--maybe I should have chimed in to say I agreed, because I didn't think you were harsh at all, though saying nothing to some diarists is the safe thing. Which is what happened to Amanda... and people quit commenting.

I suggested that book a couple weeks ago to a new diarist and she got it, read it and sounded like she embraced it immediately. Donkey! I suggest that book once every couple of months or so, and that's the first time anyone has been enthusiastic about it, much less followed it.

Don't give up giving your opinion. I wish I had a dime for the times I've suggested good running shoes or simply writing down your food in a little notebook around here--I might have ... wow--$20, maybe.

For people like you who have BTDT and have kept it off for the most part--needing to lose 5-10 pounds is pesky--but it also means you've found a key that others haven't and that has earned you the right to help others out. And that's what makes this place, it really changes every day and there are people who may be reading you with a private account that you're influencing.

It'll be interesting to see if ad_vitam's obviously very-low calorie diet serves her in the long run. She makes it sound like it's a mystery diet full of good stuff and good exercise, which it may be, but to lose just about 1 pound per day since she started here, she has to be severely restricting calories. That's all there is to it. It works for her, more power and all that jazz! These things just aren't sustainable. Especially if you're preparing for a special event. Once the event is over the weight comes back. I don't like to sound negative, but I've seen it over and over. Especially not under a dr's care. And I'm not about to try to test it myself.

I guess I've been here too long and there are so many people who have lost their weight the way you did and they've kept it off--if someone wants to do it a different way more power to them. But I don't have to support them. And I will call them out, once, but I'm also not going to beat a dead horse (though I might want to:-)

Donkey - Do you also use flaxseed meal on your cereal? Boy, is it high in fiber, B vitamins and omega 3 oils, plus it does wonders in lowering HDL cholesterol. I'm a big fan of whole grains too. Geevee

MUCH BETTER DAY TODAY!!!

Today was my Husband's day off, and for once, I can say that he did not drive me nuts. I missed him so much after this weekend (after working 2 straight days of 12 hour shifts). We went bowling as a family and had a great time. He bought a large popcorn (no butter) and a pepperoni pizza for lunch, but I didn't have any. I planned ahead and brought a Fiber One bar with me to tide me over until we got home, when I could have some fruit and or vegetables instead. And I managed to resist all temptations!

When we got home, I was going to have a dish of watermelon chunks, but then I realized that I should freeze this watermelon to eat as a dessert -- INSTEAD OF ICE CREAM. I realized that at least for the summer, I need to have a cold sweat dessert to eat after dinner. So I had better come up with something more nutritious and low calorie than ice cream.

Yes, it is better to change the behavior, but if one cannot change her behavior, then next best thing is to find a better vice.

My exercise was great too. I had a good time at the gym, even though it wasn't the regular crowd (and staff) because of the holiday. I did not run today, as we went bowling instead. I have my day tomorrow to go running, although the weather will not be very cooperative (too humid).

Weigh-in on Friday.

I have read places that if you put bananas in a blender and mix them until a smooth consistency and then pour into a container and stick in a freezer for awhile: it turns to an "ice cream" like concoction?! Maybe you should try that, or with any type of fruit for that matter, just puree and freeze: probably pretty good! Or you know, you can always eat some cheezey chicken cutlets for dinner and after those....you will be too stuffed to eat dessert! HAHAHAHA: does that bring back memories?

ad_vitam on 09/04/2007:
Good idea by GG, I second that. Make yourself a sorbet w/ fresh fruit and honey for sweetness, if you like it - freeze it and enjoy. Or even simlier - peel the banana and freeze it, I heard this receipt at one diet forum.

Donkey: I never count calories, I don't believe in it plus it's boring. For me food is either healthy or not. I.e. high-fat, sugary or proccessed food can't be considered healthy (for me) and neither fat-free, sugar-subs food. I read listed ingredients carefully and then say my verdict:):) It takes time, yes. I like SB approach, it worked well for me in the past, and it's similar to what I do now.

greengirl on 09/04/2007:
Glad you had a better day. When you find a vice that is really good , let us know what it is. I could do with a vice that is good for me LOL !! I make sort of smoothies with frozen berries and low-fat vanilla yogurt. As vices go its not too bad :o) I defrost the berries first but not too much so it is still chilled

How great that you had such a good time with your family! And the frozen watermellon sounds delish!

Exercise: 30 minute walk (to the stupid carnival); Weight training: NONE; Calories:1900

OK, so I didn't do so well on the calories. It was a bad BAD BAAAAD day :-( Nothing tragic, just a very off day.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/02/2007:
:) hello Donkey. I understand how you feel. We must forge ahead...and remember we are doing this for our health...and not dieting in order to deny ourselves!!! That's the whole thing: once you start thinking you're being denied of something, you want it so bad and then when you eat it...you have a lot! However, a carnival is another story indeed!

Workingit2 on 09/03/2007:
I hope your day went better for you today! I couldn't go to the carnival...I'd be eating those elephant ears with powdered sugar LOL.
