Monday evening- today was a festival day- the annual Labor Day Catfish Festival for our town to be specific. Walking around (and it was hot) but food wise I didn't do too bad, had the ever popular chicken on a stick (grilled) and a couple lumpia (because I love them so much) Been drinking water today aside from the one coke at the festival and avioding the high fat and empty cal foods.

Ran last night, first time in ages and I can feel it in my quads today, a light soreness but I like it.

Another drop in weight this am, glad to see, Will focus (as stated on above) on the big picture and the slow steady weight loss and muscle gain and definition I crave. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hey Guys- I know, I know, you figured I feel off the face of the earth. Well founded fears I might add, considering the time and effort I have put into fitness over the last month or so (can we say basically nada?) Yes, I admit it, I haven't been logging my biking miles, my eating has been blah and I have been, fitness related anyways, relatively un-motivated.

Then I went to my favorite motivational booster the day before yesterday- Oh yes ladies (and gentlemen if we have them) I went to the mall! All those loverly clothes and shoes, beautiful things to wear, to me it is inspiration in a store window! 

So I did some yardwork yesterday and actually got outside doing stuff (have been holed up inside because it is so hot!) Got the dust off the Threadclimber (20 minutes and I was covered in sweat) and have my recent issues of Oxygen and M&F Hers on close standby for a plan. School is in session for me and hubs now so going to look at Zumba class schedule and see where I can fit a class or 2 in per week. I LOVE Zumba, but haven't been in ages!

All that being said, ironically when I logged my weight today it was down from the previous visit- go figure. I admit I haven't been active, but I am thinking a bit more about WHAT I'm eating. While my family has dined on chips and crap, I monitor what I eat and have shopped for turkey burgers, fish and chicken as my primary protein sources. Have veggies and fruit (got some figs, oh yum!) and am trying to cut back on dairy having read it can be a major contributor to tummy bloat.

So that's me today, hope everyone is fine as a frog hair and your enjoying your weekend!

Ride data for today- 7.56 miles 27.40 minutes (time) 16.4 avg speed 19.5 max speed 72 avg cadence 83 max cadence- followed up with pushups, sit up and leg lifts.

Been away from site for a bit, been busy with back to school and family stuff, no complaints and I will leave it all at that.

Home from my morning ride- it has been so hot I haven't been logging miles for the last several days, but it felt good to go crank some gears. Time is running out for my morning rides- the kids start school Tursday and I start next monday. My classes start at 8 am and I haven't committed to either waking up very early to ride shower and get us all where we need to be on time, or ride in the evenings...

Nice ride - I am not riding since the humidity is around 100% but it rained hard and cooled off last night so I may ride to Turbo Kick tonight! Stay cool!

Tuesday afternoon-

Road longer today 14.78 miles at an avg of 16.7mph- hot outside when I road- 85 felt like 95 per the online weather data and I believe it!

Did the push up challange pre-test and got 10 off the stairs. It was post ride and I wonder had I done it when I wasn't so hot and worn if I would have done better, however I think it still puts me in a good starting group for my lack of upper body strength.

Didn't get to go to karate last night- was at a board meeting which ran longer than hubs and I had hoped (though honestly we shouldn't have been surprised) so hubs is talking of going tonight.

Working on cards and scrappy stuff now- have a fabulous Tuesday all!

Home from my first ride of the month and as I'm entering my data and updating here and there, one of the places I had an email to check in with is a scrapbooking site I frequent. There we make monthly goals and add them to our signature for the message board, updating as we go and I thought to myself DUH I should do that at DD... I love accountability staring at me 

So for this month accountbility will be at the bottom and my usual ramblings and daily data will be here or up there. (insert arrow point up here)

Sunday morning and end of the month; time for my end of month inventory. I did thing a little different, (ty to my psych course) and looked not only at my stats for the month, but also my calander of events... the high points of the month so to speak- destress and eustress factors- it's been one hell of a month!

But taking all that into mind gives me a very complete picture of what this month has been like and I have to say, I feel good overall about the month and myself. I admit I didn't hit the exercise and weight goals I set out for the month, but I have handled this month and all it's ups and downs well and I FEEL so positive about myself! Knowing I can handle it and focus on the good is a huge mental uplift.

I challange everyone, to shift your views to a more optomistic mind-set in August.

Bike ride this am- 16.0 avg for 10.31 miles, maxed at 17.8. really need to do some analysis of my workouts. The number's just aren't pleasing. Overall it seems like I'm slowing not maintaining or increasing. Even with time off, it's just a rather 'flat' month overall.

Have my final tomorrow so today will be spent studying, then 2 weeks off before fall term starts. Kids start back the 11, I the 15 of August.

Dad continues to do well. Now the newest 'drama' is hubs is looking at a possible job in New Jersey- New Jersey? Seriously, if my car needs a winter wardrobe then it's too damn cold in the winter! Nothing against a northern-er at all (I have family up there and I would LOVE to visit) but I love my southern weather... Oh well, no sense putting the horse before the cart- right?

NJ is downright balmy compared to where I am in northern CT ;) But I know our weather up here is shocking to folks from other areas. I hope you can work out a good system for getting your speeds up!

Erm hope you have a inside bike if you move to NJ. funny enough my sister is planning on moving from there to down here next spring. She can't deal with the cold anymore and lived there all her life. lol she says I am spoiled for being raised in Florida. About it being a flat month, you have so much going on. At least you have numbers and just try to push yourself a little harder. <3

GREAT RIDE! Today was tempo ride, a good solid push all the way.. halfway avg was 17.9 but I had wind-in-the-face on the way back, ended with a 17.1. Very happy with those numbers. Cadence is 71 and HR is 165 today; max are 22.5 for speed, 82 cadence and 177 on HR. distance is 7.54 miles. FYI- speed was faster today, but no 'pills' and my HR avg and max are both LOWER!

Tuesday Morning and my morning weigh in was a welcome one, down from the 218+ yesterday! Had a good day, watched and logged food. The bike ride and post ride mini legs and abs helped my mood A LOT not to mention clearly my metabolism got a much needed boost after those several off days.

Went to the mall with the girls and my aunt yesterday- very fun and motivating- so much cute stuff out there and I realized how long it has been since I went to the mall and just looked around! Came home and did some purging of clothes- stuff I have hung onto despite not liking either how it looks as a whole or how it looks on me. Freeing up some closet space is a great thing- it opens the possibilities.

On yet another good note, I saw the grade on my psych paper I submitted last week. With a maximum possible of 30 (which our prof said he rarely gives, especially with his intro classes) I made a 29! I am THRILLED. It is a huge relief!

And my final bit of good news, Dad should be coming home from the hospital today! YEAH! Smiles all around!

So for now I'm going to finish my coffee and have a quick bite before my morning ride. No pills today though- not me girlies!

Bike ride update- 7.54 miles 16.4 avg, 73 cadence and 170 for HR (ouch!) Took a metabolic enhancer pre workout today and I do NOT like the high HR avg at all...previous HR are markedly lower, 150 was the highest avg prior to today... not using that bad boy again! Total miles is now 118.19 for the month with an avg of 16.01, or 16.12 when I factor out the easy ride week...still a good bit off from the 16.7avg  I set as goal for the month.

In order to achieve outstanding results, one must first give consistant, outstanding effort.

Good Morning DD'ers and Happy Monday!

What a week last week was for me. I am glad to be home, though I do plan a return trip to visit my Dad back in the West Palm beach area, probably sometime next week. His surgery went well and his recovery is going well too. I believe he should be moved from ICU today if he wasn't yesterday. (I didn't speak with my step mom yesterday evening for the update) It is a huge sigh of relief.

It is also a grand awakening. My father, who has worked out cardiovascularly for as long as I can recall, had double cornary bypass after discovering he had 80-90% blockage. Everyone, doctors included, were floored. Now however, after speaking with he and my step mom, we understand a few variables where at work at all of this~

Foremost, there is a strong speculation that his exposure to Agent Orange when he was in the war umpteen years ago has been a key factor in this. Who would have thunk it? That is something he is going round and round with with the VA- they did pay for his surgery- but there is a compensatory issue that is still in the battle. That being said...

His diet and his diabeties are also key variables. I always thought he managed his diabeties well and have found out otherwise. I also thought that since he has always maintained a healthy weight, any slips in his diet would be offset by healthy weight and activity. Negative ghost rider~ that crap doesn't fly.

So if you've taken the time to read all this, it comes down to this-

  •  Balanced exercise- cardio and weight training- are very important, 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. If we're not at that point yet, that is a primary goal.
  • Food- it's not a diet, it's a healthy lifestyle and it's a lifestyle for life. Have an occasional indulgence, but it's the healthy eating that we focus on 24/7, 365.
  • personal health variables (like diabeties) must be taken seriously and 100% effort is made to get and keep them under control.

I feel so blessed my father has a strong prognosis and I admit, I feel like not only he, but I have been given a second chance and a wake up call on life. As I had my oatmeal this morning and I work on my list of things to do, one of then is to schedule a full physical and request a stress test from my dr when they get back in the office August 1. I have a strong family history of heart disease, my dad, my grandmother, grandfather... but knowing and doing something about it is better than not knowing and something occuring I could have prevented.

On a final note- Miami, despite the reason for the trip, was amazing. So was the food and I have some serious work to do to hit 210 by the end of the month!

I'm glad you had a good trip and good news on your Dad's successful surgery. That's wonderful that he views managing his problems as a lifestyle issue, so many people don't seem to understand that. I hope you have a good one!

Home from Miami- my Dad's bypass surgery went great and he's well on the road to a good recovery. Been a long past few days and I don't even want think about the scale, but will face that reality tomorrow. I am looking forward to sleeping n my own bed and getting up for a ride in the morng and a little ab work afterwards.
