_____________________________________________________________

doing extra laundry so it's an easier week - going on an overnight trip Friday so I want to be ready as i'm working the four days leading into it :-) glad to have a nice and fun experience.

______________________________________________________________

Cuba trip is cancelled thank gosh we didn't book it yet (to be done Monday).  My father, and mother sorta, were so darn upset with me going - that i actually LISTENED to my father and said that to make him happy, i'd cancel the trip.

The above stuff is highly upsetting as I am 34. Cuba is becoming a more popular destination.  it's cheap to go & stay. I don't have a lot of money. It's exciting. I have several friends who have already been there.

But at 34, my career is still extremely volatile and it's still in the works. I work a job that is not for the long term and still looking to join NYPD. My current job of over 6 years is thanks to my father. My current car is also. He also helped me with $5000 for this apt. So, I listened. I told him - to make him happy, i wouldn't go.

It's upsetting that i am not in control of my life.  But then again, I am. I can control it & get myself to NYPD come this january, my last shot before my application is also cancelled (expired).

So i'll do my best. Keep on with the gym. And work for that long term goal of NYPD in hopes to change my life.

October to Vegas, however, is on.

Also yesterday I planned a trip with a friend from FRANCE who is coming to US to visit her sister in Manhattan. I'll be meeting up with her in August to see her sister perform on Broadway! I will also be taking an overnight with the lady from France to New Hope, PA.  It's 2 hours from me & a very artsy town! Looking forward.

If I can't fly anywhere else, I'll make the most of my life right here in queens (NYC!).

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Donkey on 04/02/2017:
Cuba can wait. Whatever dad's reasoning was, I'm sure that he has your best interest in mind, at least from a fellow parent's perspective. I'm sure there must be some disappointment, but try to see this as a delay, not a cancellation. Who knows, in the long run, this might turn out to be a good decision (to put off a Cuba vacation). In the meantime, travel on a smaller scale.

Every day is an opportunity for joy and fulfillment, whether it's a great workout, a job well done, or going out to dinner with friends.

Horn_of_plenty on 04/04/2017:
yes...i am thinking this way J-Donk....

In March, I def lived it up going to the city several times on weekends and experiencing tons of music and shows. :-) and good friends. thanks J-Donk :-D

Weight: 115.0

1955-7day average, good!

Proud of myself. I got thru March!

Planning my second (but really first in terms of timeline) trip to Cuba tonight with friend from Miami, Florida...for early May ....will book flight tonight with her.  My trip has a stop, it stops and she gets on the flight from Fort Lauderdale to Cuba! We will get to sit next to each other on the plane! Even though i live in NY and her in Florida! So cool!

Next trip is already booked for the flight  - Vegas in October!

This year I'm getting some awesome fun and adventure in - in the form of traveling especially, the most ever in my adult life, because next year i'll be in Academy for 6 months (Jan '18 thru June '18) for NYPD and def NOT traveling (more like studying!), and prob not traveling once working as a cop right away - (June '18 to Dec '18)...and after this  - money will be extra tight.

So at 34/35 years old now, I want to enjoy life. And that's exactly what I'm doing!

_____________________________________________________

Getting new car breaks today - dropped off my car a few blocks from work and now getting it done while at work.  Also getting an oil change. Hopefully less than $400 total and more along the lines of $350...we shall see when the owner of the car repair shop comes in and calls me back - i left my car with his brother, but i think his brother only does the electrical side of things, not mechanical....So, waiting for Neil's call :-D...

So glad to get car stuff done. I still need new windshield wipers...and now i remember, i also need a small screw replacement for my car - i forgot to mention it - i'll have to walk over there at lunch and show him...good it's close to work!  there's a piece at the bottom that became unhinged, not a biggie, but needs to be tacked down again - just bc it's an older car...things wear away....it's a cheap and easy thing like five or 10 bucks tops this additional item i'm talking about.

______________________________________________________

I wasn't happy with the start of this month - knowing I used up all vaca and sick days and that it's a long month & i'd have to get thru. But I made the best of it, even when i managed to get a lil virus, and I'm just so glad to move onto April now.  Overall, i did pretty good in March...and learned some lessons too - again - involving peope / work / and that "Don't Assume Loud People are RIGHT and Quiet people are Wrong....!" ....better to sometimes remain quiet even if you are wrong because loud people don't wanna hear it either way...and even if you are right, best to sometimes shut up - as to not make any problems.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Donkey on 04/01/2017:
You did well this month, hanging in there without time off. I know it's not easy!

Glad to hear you are going to Cuba -- personally, the better choice over Haiti. This is a perfect time in your life to be traveling, especially since, with a career change, then your focus and priorities will change. Even if it was "just a new job", as you know from experience, being a newbie means putting a hold on vacation and time off until you've put in some time.

And oh my oh my, you are so right about shutting up. Glad you learned this lesson now with not much damage done. I wish I could say the same for myself, but now I must walk the path I'm on and move forward :-(

Horn_of_plenty on 04/01/2017:
Cuba will not happen. my dad was very upset about me going, very upset, so i promised him - to make him happy - that i wouldn't go.

even at 34, i owe 99% of my life to my father. my job now for the past 6 years, my apt he helped me get and my car now was his.

I am not my own person yet. still not in nypd...therefore, until i am more of an independent adult, i had to make the mmore appropriate choice not to go on the trip.

it's very upsetting to me...that because of my current life situations, i had to listen to my father and couldn't do what i wanted.

however, it drives me MORE to go to gym and get into the nypd. so i have my own life.

And yes, i was able to actually eat well during my days off gym....

it would be nice for skin to stay clear...as i'm going away next friday night to a casino for fun night!

5day average: 1915 5-day. excellent.

exercise: 20 min walk in morning, was worth it because the day rolled thru and i didn't exercise anymore than that, plus moving around in afternoon at the court slightly but mostly sitting still.

I hope to be back at gym tomorrow eve as sore throat is practically gone already tonight. extra sleep as helped greatly.

case was decided and i was guilty. is ok. i no longer touch my cell phone when driving, i must find the holder for it for when i use a gps with it. additionally, i need to get velcro for my gps when i do not use my phone gps since i do not have unlimited data.

_______________________________________________________________

I had some (very small amount) honey before a 20min walk this AM before my shower and kombucha since yesterday i didn't do any exercise and it feels really BAD to not do anything for multiple days.

I am on the mend, as Donkey says about herself, so I also like a little light walking rather than just sitting. Feels good to move the body as it also get's the blood flowing, heart pumping & digestion moving.

_______________________________________________________________

On another note, today I leave work midday @ 1:30pm to go to court (my time is 2:30pm there) to appear for a traffic ticket.  Hopefully it will NOT result in any points. I am sure it will result, either way, in money down the tube but it's def my fault i was talking on my phone holding it while driving - I have learned my lesson and no longer do this at all.  I know it's not safe for me and others - no more talking or texting on phone if i'm on the road - only if I pull over.

I have a defensive driving certificate with me in addition to other docs.  I took an online course soon after i got the ticket.  I then come back to work after court. Luckily, the court is around 20min only from work. Worked out very nicely this time in terms of the commuting part.

Even though i'm taking time outta work to do this event, court, I will not be working past 5pm today. Enough is enough & I am already sick.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

mylilsista on 03/29/2017:
The footwear company you asked about is Vionic. I ordered a pair of their shoes through Amazon. They arrived yesterday and I put them on. I swear, with an hour, NO PAIN in my foot. Today, I wore them to work. I am 3 hours into my shift & no pain!! So far, they have worked better than I thought they would. That may change in a week or so.. .but for now, remarkable!!!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/29/2017:
thank you - i'll look them up as future possible sneaker purchases as i only buy good sneakers & supportive ones.

grannyannie on 03/29/2017:
Haven't been on so not sure the issue here, but I wear Vionic slippers to prevent plantar fasciitis from returning.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/29/2017:
oh, i have a virus - sore throat is all! haha

Horn_of_plenty on 03/29/2017:
i'm still gonna check out those slippers to see what you're talking about though! thank you!

innerpeace on 03/29/2017:
Good luck in court! Hope the odd are in your favor!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/29/2017:
GUILTY...but i made everyone laugh...which was kinda cool...it's ok. got what i deserved despite trying to plead NG.

Horn_of_plenty on 03/29/2017:
and the cop showed up, the one who gave me the ticket...and when they show up - they usually win. makes sense. i understand that i'm in the wrong.

WHERE IS EVERYONE LOL~!....NOBODY'S POSTING BUT LIL OLD ME!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Even though not 100%, close to it & planning on gym tonight - but i may change my mind if i feel very run down later on. Feeling still run down with slight body aches, not gonna exercise at all today - taking the day off :-) to read & AGAIN GO TO BED EARLY.

Then again, as long as I have the sore on my throat, right upper side only not the full throat, i may as well get rest...so...i'll bring gym clothes but not sure I am going. I do not want to be sick longer - so if I feel sick, I will go home after work. Maybe take a short walk in evening or at lunch instead of gym, yeah.

Def still no gym today even though i brought gym clothes to work bc i am still feeling sick...lower energy and not wanting to overdo. I may have to skip 2 workouts. It'll be like a week off, that's all. Hopefully I can resume Thursday (and just take around 6 days off)..since i hadn't had a week off in awhile, this is good.

I will try to resume tomorrow, Wednesday so that I can go W, F & Sunday. that means i am only skipping 1 workout this week, we shall see...

But then it's stressful also going into next week...so nevermind. I'll go back to the gym on Thursday eve. That's all.

SICKNESS SUCKS. Glad it's only a virus...but it's still a pain in the butt.

I will comment on your diary, but i saw you said you are having a difficult time managing your time - trust me - i'm in your boat and you aren't alone in the least. EVERYONE IS TOO BUSY ! so don't feel to badly about that situation!

Donkey on 03/28/2017:
I'm here, reading.... Not much inspiring to write about since I'm still on the mend. Energy is around 90%, but still coughing a lot. Fever's gone so I was only out for 1 day at work. Seriously, this bug is nasty, give yourself time to heal. I'm back to light walking, no weights yet.

Horn_of_plenty on 03/29/2017:

Yesterday was a lot of fun in city. Went out to dinner at a place i had a groupon for so it wasn't expensive & saw a wonderful broadway show - On Your Feet. It's the story of Gloria & Emilio Estefan.

A bit under weather with sore throat and stye in eye...busy month...overall i did great though!

______________________________________________

Because i've been doing more and stressed with no days off....i have a slight sore throat...i may skip gym to rest today.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

mylilsista on 03/27/2017:
Hope you feel better today. Sounds like you had a great time in the city. Your food log sounds delicious. How do you make your turkey burgers? Do you add anything? I haven't tried to make that, yet. You mentioned peanut butter...I recently tried Jiff whipped PB (only 140 cals for 2 Tbsp). It is declicious; found it at Walmart. Have a great day dear :)

Horn_of_plenty on 03/27/2017:
Yes, i use the same whipped PB that you mention. It saves calories and i can take a little more and it's still the same calories, 200, as regular even when i use extra over the two tablespoons & it tastes good & spreads so well! It's great that stuff!

I do make my own turkey burgers. I enjoy using ground meat better than when i buy the ground meat that's already shaped into burgers at the store. I like to form my own with my hands bc i feel when i keep them a little thicker than the store's burgers, they cook up better. I am still experimenting. My burgers are so dry but i don't mind...this time i added some garlic, black pepper, dry cilantro i had in the pantry & some celery dried also like a spice in powder form. Def better than without any seasoning...

I am still learning the basics of cooking but I have gotten much better this year :-)

Turkey is so healthy and good for you. Pure protein and hardly any fat.

Oh, i broil the burgers in oven, around 5-6 minutes per side. when i turn them over, the fat is easy to just scoop right off...different from when i cook them stove top. Calories are really low, 160 cal per burger.

My mom told me to add breadcrumbs to the burger to make them tastier. I kinda like them as they are, maybe another time i'll add mushroom or something.

Still feeling under the weather but hoping i can resume gym tomorrow night, with only one of my workouts skipped (i workout 3x per week).

Even though i skipped a workout, i pushed myself to stroll around the neighborhood for 30 minutes and truly i am so happy i did that...because my real goal is on cardio for the remainder of this year (i am getting into running so i can join the nypd this coming january!)

thanks for your comments....we think alike on the food stuff. and the best about the whipped pb, is that it's healthy and same as regular pb - just some air. but same healthy nutrition!

Healthy lunch: white rice 200? , lots of cooked spinach from a takeout place but they really don't know how too cook it as it tastes gross! so perhaps no more on getting their food as often as it hasn't been tasting good! 150, veggie burger 120, orange 80: 550 - this lunch was VERY satisfying!

7day average will be very good: 1885 = super, made it back into the 1800's!

after gym (must drive home to get cell phone before gym after work - will go to gym closer to my home instead of next door to work so i can listen to my music on my phone at gym!): will be some kinda nice indulgence :-)...not high cal, but the type - like light ice cream or something :-D

Slept so nicely Thursday into this AM. I needed it & I am glad i opted to be in bed early because I slept and woke slightly before my alarm but it meant i needed this sleep. I do feel better rested with sleep so it was good i did.

Usually I am very tired on Friday morning from gym the night before but tonight i will go instead of last night - seems this is yet another reminder that i must put sleep first & that sleep is going to be extermely, EXTREMELY, important as I work to continue to make my lower body stronger (WHICH I AM), legs prep for running (WHICH I AM!)....and sleep - it's just extremely NECESSARY for my well-being. Sleep is something my FATHER doesn't get enough of - but he has other qualities that make him in many ways "super-human" - in his mental strength to pull though.

But just because my father can do this doesn't mean he isn't affected - he has had to deal with LOTS of chronic health problems like asthma and chronic breathing problems, pollyps in his nose, chronic skin conditions that keep occurring like asthma...chronic lots of things...because he doesn't give himself (ever in his adult life) the proper sleep for restoration. I will be thankful from the bottom of my heart to him for all he has given me - he cannot EVER be repaid for the amount of endless love and support I have received from him. I am, eternally, grateful.

My eyes are tearing as I write this at work at 8:40am. Life is confusing.  Life is complicated.  Life sometimes doesn't make much sense at all.  But we go with it.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Good progress, and I agree that sleep is so, so important. Our bodies just can't function, repair, build muscle, etc., without sufficient sleep, and each of us is different. Treasure your father while you have him. Life is beautiful but it goes too quickly :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/24/2017:
Yes, sleep is amazing. I learned that over the past 1.5years from experience :-D

life is beautiful and sometimes the beauty passes by too fast before the next challenge....but this is the beauty of life too :-D

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/24/2017:
I do treasure him, thank you for the reminder. i am sometimes sad he works so hard (especially the work outside his work in visiting his mom every sunday morning early)...but it's part of him.
