Weight: 115.0

Home: kombucha and honey 100

Breakfast: banana 120, coffee with pumpkin stevia 50, wrap 100, pb 150: (i would have brought lox if i knew i'd be in the office all day, but had only pb for breakfast bc i THOUGHT i was leaving early until i spoke to my dad while leaving my apt....i am not fighting him to go to a rally - if he wants me to sit at my desk all day - i'll do it...lol....that's life...pick and choose your battles.)

Snack ? 200 - natural bar type thing was good.

Lunch: 750, sorta big. but really healthy: chickena and potatoes in heavy tomato sauce with a small rice kripsie treat.

Snack: plum 30

1500 after tasty lunch...ate it way too fast, was rushing, had to walk to a post office and the line was very long and got back with 15min to eat out of an hour lunch.

dinner: maybe a glass wine or other beverage.  maybe i'll eat healthy - yes, shimp i just bought, potato, veggies...and maybe a drink.

today: 2200.

3day: 2100.

i did exercise: fast 1 mile and maybe 1.5mile walk. i was rushing after the library to get back to work!i may skip a day of running this week, or just do a shorter one as i have been - 1.5 mile only of a walk / jog. good enough.for the rest of the week - 2 days even one day can be a darn mile and that's enough! and the other day 1.5mi.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was quite an eventful weekend & could have been a very eventful MONDAY & Tuesday also...

There's a massive march happening today at Times Square in Manhattan (NYC) at 3pm - a huge rally against corporate greed and anti-union establishments.  Non Union electrical companies are taking our work for less because they pay their workers low wages and treat them poorly with no pensions or any kind of benefit plan as great as ours and if they keep winning jobs the middle class in NYC for working people with blue collar union jobs may be forever ending.

There's a big fight bc currently one part of our electical union (cable company workers who work for Spectrum now) have been on strike approximately 7 MONTHS! Imagaine not getting a paycheck for SEVEN months...bc they didn't work for Spectrum a year ago, Spectrum bought their previous company which was Time Warner Cable. And Spectrum will not sign the same contract these men used to have - they will lose around $30,000 in benefits over the course of each year i believe.

Spectrum doens't want to contribute to retirement plans...so these union guys do not want to settle for less - they've always had a better contract - why should they sign to do away with things they have always been privledged to - why should they sign to lower their salaries because a billion dolalr company doesn't want to give it to them? Why should their status as middle class workers be brought down and why should it decline? If Spectrum wins the fight, it's a loss to my union...and it means that the whole union is going to suffer and suffer greatly. It means that other non union companies are going to challnenge us & that they might win the fight - this will damage the union for many years if not forever.

It's a fight for working rights and privledges. Non union workers do not live the same middle class lives although they might think they are - they are desperate to work and do not know any other better life. Union workers do - we fought for what we have & we may just lose it if the government doesn't start to help us out - which is difficult with a Trump Administration. Sorry if I offended everyone, but this is my life right now.

My dad is big in activism for the union - but he told me not to leave work early to go today to the march. So i'll be staying at work as he asked me to do. I don't work in Manhattan and to be there by 3pm, I'd have to leave work around 1pm. My regular time is 5pm which means i'd be asking for a half day. My dad doesn't want me to go bc most people in my office are definitely not going except maybe 2 people out of 100-150. Other people who's workplace is located in NYC will go, but since i would have to leave so early he told me not to ask. I wanted to go - but i have no desire to debate it with my dad...

AFTER ALL, tomorrow at 6:30am I have to be in midtown Manhattan at the NYPD candidate relations for my medical exam, before i go to work after...so i'll just stick to Tuesday being eventful and stay at work today here in Queens, return a library book after work & pick up my two reserved new books. That's all, no worries!

since i need to be up so early tuesday, i'm not going to gym that eve, but going to bed early. i would have liked the gym - but i also like to get some sleep.

so gym and jogging will be quite rushed and erratic this week, needing to go 3 days in a row to work out. if i feel very sore for any reason, i'll have to skip a day.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

innerpeace on 10/30/2017:
I've seen both sides of the union. My DH needs a union where he is because he is treated like crap, they have no standards for performance or safety and he is always mad because of how they treat him. They have no 401K to speak of and their health benefits are crap. However, I've seen the union hurt good workers protecting those who never work and still expect to keep their job. So I get where you're coming from.

Good luck with your exam. My military exam was pretty in depth, checking every nook and cranny of my body - I hope it isn't that way for you. Have a great day.

horn_of_plenty on 10/30/2017:
i think my exam will be slightly easier than yours, as they simply don't check nooks and crannies and sorta just take your word that you are feeling OK!

But even without unions, there are good and bad workers...but yes your DH would be in better shape with a 401k!

unions, like you mentioned, are big on safety and security of workers. Hard to get the bad ones out - even teachers in NYC are mostly in unions - very hard to fire the bad teachers, but, the teachers are all lucky with GREAT retirement plans.

BearCountryGG on 10/30/2017:
We thank the Detroit Carpenters Union every month here when the pension check arrives...Denny worked hard for 32 years for what he is getting, starting at age 17 and taking early retirement at 48....Being a carpenter in Detroit isn't easy, some neighborhoods tear things down before they are even finished being built and it's a daily threat of pit cave ins and 10 story falls....and today he is dealing with damaged hips and shoulders but we are thankful because he was paid well, had good benefits and he could get out while he was still young...the union made retirement possible for us...and social security at 62 made it even better.....I do worry about the younger generations.

horn_of_plenty on 10/30/2017:
I worry too. I think that the younger generation is about to suffer greatly in the next MANY years...and that we are going to drop even farther before people realize we really are going to have to fight again for what made the middle class a strong middle class!

but deep down, i hope things never get as bad as they were when unions were first established which is i think around the great depression? or right after?

the world with trump and everything going on is a scary place in my mind.

i'm glad your husband received something for all his hard work, though sorry about his body physically...manual labor is hard on the body.

legcramps on 10/30/2017:
It's going to be an early morning tomorrow! I hear you about wanting more sleep; I am the same way right now, especially with having a cold. I keep trying to stay awake with bf to watch tv or a movie, and always end up snoring on the couch, poor guy lol.

Good luck with your exam tomorrow.

horn_of_plenty on 10/31/2017:
Thank you I am sitting still with all the candidates right now :-)

Sleep is very important and I hope to get a lot of it tonight .... extra sleep definitely improves immunity

Boy has it been a very busy week with things going on most nights. Last night taking off the nails took 1.5 hours at the salon by my job. Way too long a time to sit there. I was home by 7:30pm (half hour drive away from work!). It was a bit much, i was hoping to be home way earlier,  but still i got to bed early around 9pm.

tonight i am jogging at the Queens College Track after work. I get out of work at 5pm and by the time i park there and change there, it'll be around 6pm. I'll be done around 7pm. It'll be dark through half the jog at least.  I wanted to ask to leave early but i'm trying to at least be responsible and trustworthy with working my assigned times here at work. I don't need to not do the simplest things right..if they aren't giving me work, I should be able to get here on time, leave on Time (as long as i get here on time!), and not ask to be leaving early.

So at lunch, i'll get another coat on my nails, she told me to come back today for free and i do need it!...then walk a little bit more so i don't have to walk tonight / run less tonight. Tonight at the track, I am thinking to stay briefly only for 1.5 miles. (not my 2mi or 2.5 mi run/walk). It'll be dark, I'll want to be home. I'll walk at lunch to make up for the lost time tonight at the track!

I have to buy kombucha sometime between now & tomorrow....

Boy has this been a SLOW day.  I haven’t actually had work all week – and it’s good. If only I worked a little shorter hours, tho.  But hey, I’m being paid a decent salary and saving like at least 14%...and I think I changed it to 17% of my paycheck now. So I have to deal with the boredom and sitting in one seat from 8-5 with an hour lunch….because it will end in two months. In two months my life will turn around in the academy – it’ll be fast-paced again, but I do believe the academy is one whole hour shorter per day than my current job, thankfully!

I’m so glad it’s Friday too. I was going to go home, but my friend asked me to dinner…and it’s sorta expensive. I’ll pay for my share but it’s just throwing away money and makes me semi-nervous. I just need to calm down & realize that in 5 years I’ll be making good money for the rest of my life and I’m saving what I can now, except I don’t save anything from my paycheck since a few months now. – meaning my take-home pay – I use it all and it tenses me up how I do this – but at least I don’t use my savings – I shouldn’t have to – as my salary is decent even after I put most of the money away. I did this on purpose – I put away the most I can and live off of a more moderate / lower salary bc I want to know the money is being saved for the long run & has time to increase over time – bc I know that the two years starting in January thru 2020, I’ll not be able to save much bc my salary will be at that time 15k-20k less. But then it builds.

I’m still paying off my credit card from the Vegas trip and my friend asked me out to dinner tonight. LOL. I have no money – I’ll have to pay on credit card or cash but then I’m out of cash – the credit it is. I have very little money on my debit – all which is going to be spend tomorrow to pay my rent. It’s not that I’m a careless spender, it’s just that I’m still paying off for the trip – this makes me so anxious and frustrated. I will not be spending much next month – most things I do will be either free or low cost / pre-paid. I must settle down with my spending. ! Oh, there will be one expensive day - $100 expensive at the end of November. Luckily, I also bought my whole family bday gifts. So the reason my cards and money are tight I guess is for good reason this time! Sorry. Very stressed over that.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

legcramps on 10/27/2017:
Happy Friday! Sounds like you've had a busy week - hopefully you will get to have a bit of a break on the weekend. Good job on your jog!

horn_of_plenty on 10/27/2017:
Yes, i'll make sure to get a little downtime on weekend, at least for Sunday night.

Maybe i'll wake up early Saturday also (not a good weekend to take any sleeping pills...i'd rather be up relaxing and being able to relax than sleeping!)

innerpeace on 10/27/2017:
You took the nails off? So are you just getting them painted then for another coat? I guess I got lost reading that. I had some taken off once and I had to soak for a long time to get that fill stuff to come off And it scarred my nails - well until they grew out. Have a great weekend.

horn_of_plenty on 10/27/2017:
Same here, she put on nail hardener...and i'll keep using it as my nails grow out also. Yes, my nails are WELL DAMAGED from the acrylic nails. They look ok while painted with clear nail hardener tho.

i think i'm playing around too much...i actually have so many plans to choose from my head hurts for this weekend...makes me want to do less or nothing!

Donkey on 10/28/2017:
Your story is exactly why I'm afraid to get nails. But they are so pretty, so I just admire them on other folks who are brave enough.

I understand your anxiety over money issues. You have a plan, but it just takes time. Breathe deep and trust the process. The older I get, the more it becomes clear to me how much "time is money, money is time" rings true...

Horn_of_plenty on 10/29/2017:
yes, don't get fake nails. no good.

BearCountryGG on 10/29/2017:
Had a frined with the same acrylic nail problem....took awhile to correct it....I'm just sticking with the polish...but the acrylics do look nice.

(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 115.0

6day avg is decent: 2150 per day :) very good. I can try to lower the avg by eating less FRIDAY which would be SMART.

Home: kombucha 50

8:30am Breakfast: coffee 50, banana 120, coconut wrap 80 with honey 30 and pb 150:

10am "Fig Bar" one piece in blueberry flavor 110 (i think increasing my carbs is sorta not a bad thing...except for slightly increased hunger).

11:30am peanuts 100...lunch will come late today - Indian I ordered, but i also still have Indian leftovers lol...so much food still. don't need to get too much on weekend plus last week i did buy too much!

Lunch was also a splurge: tuna 70, fried things 400 at least, 150 naan, 200 saag approx 800 and cake 100. for my good friend Jen's bday...the Vegas girlie!

3:45pm Snack:plum (yeah eating too much lately).

4:45 brown sugar cinnamon pastry crisps 100 before doing nails...eating so much today but can't get off it without just starving a few hours and i do not want to.

Dinner: thinking this shepherd's pie i have (microwavalbe) and a drink. really tired. bed early......tired from sitting lol but happy i have NO WORK at all.

Will try to tame appetite not to eat more than 2200 today lol...worked out:

total approx 2200-2250, good.

I got nails off, took 1.5 HOURS of sitting there. left at 7pm, home at 7:30pm! so late lol...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Doing nails (getting them off) after work today...hopefully as quickly as possible! Absolutely took WAYYYYY TOOOO LONG! Smart to have left my car in work lot, though. i got out at 5pm from work and didn't leave the neighborhood until 7pm. just wow.

also, i had 8oz of an 8% alcohol margarita (in a can) last night and it really helped me sleep...is this bad? to enjoy 1 alcohol drink most nights? i sorta like trying them all out right now....never did except for now (this year). this year i have tasted some varieties of beer also. nice to try new things, sorry Donkey i know you don't appreciate me writing this, but i doubt i'd become alcoholic bc i don't want to drink more than a cup. also it makes it easier for me to go out and drink one. and just to want one also when out - knowing i have more at home and that it's not considered "a bad treat" for me...i'm trying to be moderate with it so that i can drink and not overdrink....

Last night I jogged / walked 1.75 mi which is enough...i'm not in this for distance right now, just for sticking to my goal of getting to the university, parking there, jogging what i feel i want to - when daylight savings time sets in, the ENTIRE jog will be in the dark on the track. Even now, starting around 5:50 and ending around 6:30 in my car, it was fully dark. This is what it'll take if i want to train on the track (i prefer the track to a treadmill)....so that's why it was worth buying a sticker for my car to park at the school :) the less time at the dark track, the better. I can also try to jog once on weekends, so i only have to go 1x in dark during the week - so i might wait till Saturday to jog again...but then again, i might just go and do it Friday after work LOL....choices!

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/26/2017:
Donkey doesn't mind! I like seeing pictures and reading recipes for fancy drinks with alcohol. Beer & wine okay too!

For me, to stop drinking was a personal choice for myself, and myself alone. It doesn't bother me to be around alcohol at all. I just don't partake. Most times, it's easy, sometimes it's a little more difficult, but it's a commitment I've made to myself, at least for now, with no immediate plans to change that.

So no need to apologize, at least, to me! :-)

horn_of_plenty on 10/26/2017:
it is very exciting...i didn't tell my father, but today i emailed him so he can be aware again....i don't want to distrub / cause unnecessary stress to him - he only really needs to know as it's confirmed...but i told him bc it's exciting and he needs to sorta be aware that i'm going thru it now to be in for January!

Donkey on 10/25/2017:
You're 10-2, with a 10-4. I'll be 10-7 in about 10 minutes. GOOD idea to study this NOW while you have time, and not when you're actually training.

Donkey copies <out>

horn_of_plenty on 10/26/2017:
yeah, i'm trying to get my mind active for the 6 months of academy...it'll go fast and be a lot of studying i am sure of it.

thank you...yes, nice my boss has given me this wonderful break...i don't know how long it can last, but it might last the whole time until January or at least till November...lol...he might really give me a break for a couple months...we have a new estimator today come in...a new older lady...he may just want to attend to actual needs of company and decide not to give me much work...however i do assist one guy, and if the guy wants to give me work, i'll have to do it...but i hope it remains a low level and yes i'll use this time to acquaint myself with the verbage haha...love that word...of the police terms....

loved your commet....i know 10-2 is received well...10-4 is you got it...and 10-7 well...let me look: lol, you're outta here in 10 min nice!!!!!!!!!! <3 xoxoxo...when i start using these codes, i'll use them here with you.

Tonight is gym and i counted my sunday workout also for this week's gym so that makes 2x and i can forget about gym until the weekend, good. that's good because i didn't get a chance to run last night. It took awhile for me to get the parking pass for Queens College and by the time I got home to change, i didn't want to leave my place again after 6pm to get to the track around 6:30 and run in dark and eat late and bed late...so it's rescheduled for Wednesday eve since today & tonight the weather forecast is rain.

At least i now have a parking pass which is WONDERFUL as i will not be struggling to find spots in the community and it seems there's always some spots at the college lot beside the track - so although it took time last night to get the sticker for my car paid for & squared away, i'm not set up very conveniently for less time to be wasted for my jogging trainng for the rest of this fall season!

I RAN OUT OF TIME LAST NIGHT (MONDAY) AND WASN'T ABLE TO DO THE JOG - AFTER SIGNING UP FOR THE PARKING PASS, I GOT HOME AROUND 6PM AND IT WAS ALREADY GETTING DARK. I STILL HAD TO CHANGE & THEN I'D DRIVE BACK ( I WOULDN'T GET TO THE TRACK BEFORE 6:30PM AND NOT HOME TILL AFTER 7PM AND REALLY DIDN'T WANT THAT) AND HAVE TO RUN IN THE DARK AND EAT LATE - I DECIDED TO GO TO BED MONDAY EARLY, NOT JOG, DO GYM AGAIN TUESDAY  BECAUSE IT'S RAINING TUESDAY AND I CANNOT JOG AT THE TRACK IN THE RAIN (THAT'LL BE 2X THIS WEEK ALREADY GETTING THE GYM IN AND THEN I CAN JUST CONCENTRATE ON MY JOG.), THEN DRIVE BACK WITH NOW MY GOOD PARKING STICKER TO PARK IN THE COLLEGE AND START MY JOGGING ON WEDNESDAY (STILL 2.5 WEEKS ONLY OF REST, GOOD.)

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

BearCountryGG on 10/24/2017:
Big rain going on here too....the dam is overflowing and we have flood warnings......more like spring than fall.

horn_of_plenty on 10/24/2017:
yeah our weather wasn't typical fall these two months - it was much warmer....i wore shorts in the sun on Saturday!

Weight: 115.0

Home: kombucha did the trick and so good 70

Breakfast: wrap 100, pb 200, banana 120, coffee 50: 470

snack: blueberry cake...amazing!!!! 150? really fresh from upstate PA i think coworker was there in weekend and bought it on his way home...extremely fresh and moist!

Noon early lunch: healthy things....mostly food from my Indian coworker's wife! so nice of her the one's i walked with upstate with on Saturday!

4pm snack: apple 100

before jog: 1/2 protein cookie and water with stevia...then buying a parking pass so i can park inside the college that i like to jog on the track of...instead of look for parking on the extremely crowded street surrounding it...so i can start the jog fast instead of worrying about parking after work...it's a good deal and will save approx. 20 minutes of annoyance during my weekday jogs. 200

dinner: not sure, maybe seaweed salad and an egg or two. or something microwavable?not sure. maybe a protien muffin - have a few left and they are probiotic...yeah prob a muffin with a scoop or two of ice cream! (LOW CAL EVERYTHING). it'll be around 400 cal i think

2100. is Monday's total. decent!

Today will be my first Jogging day since before my Vegas trip (around 2.5 weeks i think). good. Looking forward.

I'll buy a college parking pass so i no longer have to look for parking at night when i go to jog at the track :)...no need to waste time looking for a spot now...especially as it gets dark faster as well as colder...now i can drive right there & park right away at the track.

Today will be a simple day. Skipping the funeral below bc i have other personal reasons to take off from work down the road....i can't take off for a professor from 15 years ago. oh well..not a good reason and i'm not mentioning to my boss. no need. i have an academy to get into. that's enough right  now!

Tomorrow i have a funeral to attend for a sorta young guy around early 70's i think. so sad. he was one of my mentors and one of my nicest, genuine, favorite professors at Hofstra University. He was also the head of the entire Music Dept there. The funeral is not very far and happens to be during the workday...so i'll just go :)  My boss will not give me a hard time, no. I may as well go now that work isn't rough and that i can attend and hear the thoughtful things people will say about him...

funeral is being held approx 45min away from work so it's not very far. and during work hours makes me more eager to go, actually. i was going to sleep over my parent's house thinking the funeral was at night, but then reread the info, and was sorta put at ease seeing the funeral is to be at 2pm and not like 5pm or 6pm.

...after funeral i plan to just come home bc i already have tons of food and stuff and shouldn't shop (cool prepared food stores by the funeral,  but i do not need to waste money bc i have food at home!)....just going to be there for this man who died too young and who give his heart to me and so many students at Hofstra in the Music Dept.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

BearCountryGG on 10/23/2017:
I looked up kombucha.....and watched some youtube vids...interesting stuff...did you know you can make your own? Apparently it takes a couple of months...but there are people selling the chunk of stuff it takes to get started....apparently if you let it sit long enough it turns to alcohol and vinegar....

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
I should learn to make it on my own...i'd save around $1,500 a year...this is what i spend on it! whoa. lol. i love the stuff so much!

BearCountryGG on 10/23/2017:
Apparently once you get the chunk of stuff ( can't remember it's name but it starts with s)...it grows and grows and you I think only need tea after that to make it....you could have a lifetime supply.....LOL

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
oh....wow....i need to really do the research so i can in the end make my own kombucha....i really do....i know the S word...it's Scoby :)

BearCountryGG on 10/23/2017:
yup....that's the word....do the bottles you buy have a scoby in them? If they do you could probably use that.

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
yes, but they also contain added sugar...but i'll do this later on...not ready to make my own...i'd rather get a dog right now...maybe Ricky can help me make kombucha :)

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
but waiting a year on the dog, also

BearCountryGG on 10/23/2017:
There are lots of kombucha making vids on you tube....the one I watched is by The Fairly Local Vegan and is titled Super Easy Kombucha Brewing....I've enjoyed her videos for awhile now , she is super down to earth with a upbeat personality.

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
yeah, one day i must do it - though not right now...i once was going to sign up for a class but it was being held 2 hours away which wasn't too convenient in my opinion.

innerpeace on 10/23/2017:
You look great with Rickey!! So cute together. We love those dried apricots, and if you like those, trust when I say, stay away from dried mango...OMG So so good!

horn_of_plenty on 10/23/2017:
i do trust your words alright! i was amazed with the apricots being high in potassium. that's good for me! And they provided good energy for the gym!

BearCountryGG on 10/23/2017:
YEAH....dried mango is evil...in a good/bad way!
