-LY Ladies, good morning!

I wish a marvelous weekend to everyone!

I have to run, have Pilates and PowerPool today. Yesterday I had a HidroPower class at night. The Brazilian instructor we have was absent so we got a woman (unfortunatelly don't know the name) and we had the MOST PERFECT class ever. I couldn't feel my legs at the end of those 45 min, LOL! The woman was just like one I want to be when I've lost all my extra weight. Not at all thin, but not too much fat, in good condition. Ok, she had a breast size I won't ever have, at least F or G... (I have D...) ARRRGH...

I will be at work today, ALONE. I have to finish up a project, very messy - and tomorrow morning also. Then, tomorrow afternoon is reserved for FRENCH studies. Have to memorize the words and phrases we had on those 2 classes this week.

Today's menu:

08H00 - chocolate soy milk, LIGHT (92 kcal/200 ml, not bad) with cereals (total: 400 kcal)

13H00 - a fitness cookie (100 kcal)

14H00 - a grilled chicken leg and salad (lettuce, corn, carrot + olive oil and vinagre) - 450 kcal + 200 kcal mango

16H00 - a yogurt (50 kcal) and 2 yellow plums (HMM DELICIOUS!!!) (100 kcal)

17H00 - a coffee w LF milk

grand total: 1400 kcal

 

About the massage: It was OK, if I'd need to give a rate between 1 and 5, I'd rate it for 2 though. The girl was OK, but she did half an hour instead of 1 hour (for the record, I have 2x30min massage per month, or I can mark a full hour. I did so, for 1PM Saturday. They called me, begged to change to midday. I told them I had PowerDeep til midday, I may be late but did the favour.) I arrived 12.15, she told me she wouldn't be able to do 1 hour, but 45 min. I told her it'd be OK. So we finished at 12.45 instead, she "forgot" my arms (very bad...) and filled my head with lot of publicity about a good doctor who does non-invasive laser treatment to lose 6 cm's per treatment, and they do a special massage to "forward" the fat to the urine faster so it'd leave the body through natural ways... Well. No favors for anyone from now on. I pay a lot of money per month to them.

Pilates was great, the PowerDeep: MARVELOUS again, the same lady as yesterday on the HidroPower. Why do I like her: because she follows the movement of each person and she corrects us whenever its needed. The exercises are repeating in a good way, we learn the movements and then we do it, but not like once or twice but five or more times! Now that's the way I like to move! I feel I'm doing something good, WELL because the teacher corrects me if I'm wrong, and I feel good after the class!

They say she's a swimming teacher... I'd need to do that also, I just haven't had the courage since September to start swimming classes... Maybe this time I change my mind and will check her schedule... 

AND IT KEEPS RAINING....

Great exercise - so nice about the instructor. Sorry about the massage! The massage therapist sounds like a real bummer - fat fast forward through the system - yeah right! You know alot more about getting in shape than that chickie!

Good morning, Ladies! :-)

I weighed in today morning, and my current weight stays the same. I'm "up" 200 grams but I won't count that as it can be anything. I take the challenge of "Losing 2 LBS in a week.". So next weigh-in: 18 November (will give it an extra weekend).

I have to work a lot during this weekend... but, before that happens, I still have a Relaxation Massage booked for Saturday midday. A one hour massage, yuppeyay! A one hour massage per month is included in my monthly pass for the tennis/pool, etc... Speaking of tennis: cancelled today due to bad weather. And it doesn't seem like tennis on Monday, either... I'm so sad... I go to HydroPower class today, and tomorrow Pilates + PowerPool.... now that's LOVELY...

 Today's menu:

08H00 - LF milk w/ coffee and muesli (300 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee 100 kcal

13H00 - salad (lettuce, onions, tomato, cucumber + olive oil and vinegar) with a tin of sardines in tomato and mango (450 kcal)

16H00 - a yogurt, 4 slices of small whole toast w/ LF cheese, rest of the mango (400 kcal)

21H00 (after HidroPower) - some cooked pasta with a triangle cheese and a green pepper (250 kcal)

Grand total: 1600 kcal

Progress as of today: 109.5 lbs lost so far, only 56.7 lbs to go!

WEEEEELL... I have to ask for your advice, please... I bought a Créme Kokkoh last week, because I wanted to try cooked oatmeal you girls frequently eat....
This is the product:

So, what does it say: preparation, 250ml water, a tablespoon of the crème Kokkoh and 10 minutes on the stove would give it a creamy texture. WELL... I did it, really as written. But I think there's something they forgot to mention because I got a really liquid texture and tasted like nothing. I left it in a cup, will try tomorrow morning for breakfast, served cold. So, how do you prepare oatmeal? Do I need to mix the powder with cold water or only when it's boiling? Should I use milk instead of water? And the 360 kcal/100 gr is for the creamy product or the raw, powderish material?


Today's menu:

08H00 - two whole cookies (60 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

11H00 - a soy yogurt and a plum (140 kcal)

12H00 - caldo verde soup with a bun and mango (650 kcal)

16H00 - whole grain toasts with some LF cheese cream, a small mango (400 kcal)

20H00 - green pepper, 2 slices of ham and a LF triangle cheese (150 kcal)

Grand total: 1600 kcal

Sorry, I have no suggestion for cooking the Kokkoh. I'm surprised the directions on the package aren't giving you the results you want. For what it's worth, when I make instant oatmeal, I just add boiling water to the mix. I've had too many explosions in the microwave to try to cook it in there. Good luck!

As far as oatmeal goes it all depends on how thick or thin you like it...i couldn't blame you if you didn't like watery and tasteless...Maybe try more product less water...now are you boiling the water before adding the Kokkoh?

That looks like an interesting product, but it's not oatmeal! Looks like a mix of other grains, rice, quinoa and adzukis (don't know what that is, interesting). You'll want to look for rolled oats. My steal cut Irish oatmeal (the slow cooking kind) is 100% wholegrain Irish oats. My instant is organic rolled oats with other natural flavors and organic cane sugar added. I just add water to the instant. For the slow cooking kind you can add milk, fruit, sweetener, etc. But you always making with boiling water or milk, must be hot. I hope this helps!

You'll need to get "aveia", Kathy! This product you got is a mixture of rice and azuki beans. Farinha de aveia is what you are looking for - Not the powdery sort, but the rolled type. If you go to the store, they are usually on the lowest shelf, bellow the more fancy muesli mixes. At least, that's where they were in Switzerland.... Good luck!

Don't know a lot about cooking oatmeal...I'm a 'grits girl' myself. Lots of folks here probably eat oatmeal, though. Maybe they could help you with this one.

Sounds interesting, even if it isn't oatmeal. It seems more like what we would call cream of wheat here. I love most kinds of hot cereals, but oatmeal is the healthiest! Hope you can find some, or something close.

Yes, look for steel cut oats - vry coarse and is good and hearty. Looks like what you got is kind of a "cream of oats" and other grains type thing. That is too mushy for my tastes. I never liked cream of wheat, for example. Maybe you can use it in place of polenta or something with some other dish???? So doesn't go to waste. BTW - I like my oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon and some kind of sweetner! Good luck!

Yea, that product sounds similar to "Cream of Wheat" or "Quick Farina Hot Cereal" instead of oatmeal. A popular producer of oatmeal here is Quaker Oats. It comes in a cylindrical cardboard canister (Im sure you can find an image of it on google). They make "Old Fashioned Oats" and "Quick Oats". Old Fashioned (Rolled) Oats are better for you due to less processing. Rolled oats is a good oatmeal for beginners. Steel Cut oats are even healthier for you, but are also more expensive and take a while to get used to.

You can prepare old fashioned oats in two ways - on the stove and in the microwave. If you do it on the stove, you must bring a specific amount of water to a boil before adding the pre-measured oats. From there, it only takes like 5 minutes to cook before its ready to eat. If you cook it in the microwave, you can combine the measured oats and water and cook for like 2.5 -3 minutes. Though, some people prefer to bring the water to a boil in the microwave then pour it over the oats in the bowl and let it "steep" until the oats absorb all the hot water.

To season it, I use a variety of things depending on my mood - brown sugar + walnuts/pecans or raisins; white sugar (or stevia) + butter; maple syrup + walnuts/pecans; pumpkin pie spice + stevia + raisins or a few dark chocolate chips

BTW, most American produced canisters of oats have recipes for oatmeal raisin cookies on them. These are my second favorite cookies of all time. Soooo good and relatively healthy for you when compared to chocolate infused cookies. :)

I think you need to look for instant rolled oats to make porridge, then you just put 1/3 cup in a bowl with about 1 cup of milk, microwave on high for about 2 mins and add (in my case) 2tsp brown sugar. I think you may have purchased the wrong product for what you want.

Hopefully this day will be better (foodwise) than yesterday. But I had a great day anyway... work-free (almost), stress-free, ahhh... :-)

Today: I've been to tennis. It started raining right after the class, I have luck lately. We want to have tennis training on a (week)daily basis now, we asked for permission and we're going to know it today...  Let's hope they authorize. Ahhh, and the arrogant dude from tennis gave me a ride today to work... He works nearby (like 500 meters from me) ... He's not so arrogant after all... I don't know why but he's constantly pulling my leg during the classes. Everyone's laughing at us... SO EMBARRASSING!!!!

I'm going to have the 2nd French class today. GEEEZ, I'm so doomed. All the others know French from school. I don't know ANYTHING... and the prof is on a lightspeed, so I really have to learn at home, I need some self-discipline here to keep up with the others...

Today's menu:

06H00 - 2 slices of whole bread w/ light soy margarine and a slice of ham, LF milk (400 kcal)

09H00 - LF coffee w/ milk (100 kcal)

13H00 - vegetarian food and some "healthy" sweet rice (600 kcal)

16H00 - a peach, a plum, soy yogurt and some 1,5% F plain yogurt (400 kcal)

21H30 - HUNGER... cooked veggies and a slice of grilled turkey breast (250 kcal)

Grand total: 1800 kcal

Update on the clothings issue: I took your advice and did a major investment and took my four favorite pants to the atellier to have them cut to my new size. I loved the face of the woman there.... She got puzzled by the difference of the size of the pants and my actual size. :-)
Unfortunately the pants will suffer unwanted changes like losing the pockets, etc. but... at least it cost me 10 euros each and not 20-30 euros to buy new pairs. I'm still SHRINKING and I made my calculations: I spend at least 150 euros per month on new clothings.. And the fact of doing exercises everyday gave it an extra cost, as I need to have exercise clothings also, which we know, is NOT cheap, as it's casual and special wear... Terrible... But, necessary!

Thank you for your comment, I have started on an incline as I am still in pretty good condition even though I have not exercised for a year. I intend to increase my time to 45mins, because that's the time it used to take me to do my walk through the streets.

But I did understand most of what you wrote. :) KathyBlue, if you have one or two friends or folks you know a little, get together and make sure you only speak French, even if you are pointing and jumping around to get to understand each other. Today's a national holiday in Portugal. So, basically I will be enjoying a day out with my love. I will tell you about it later (without any juicy details, sorry... LOL)


Today's menu:

08H00 - 3 thin slices of whole toast w/ LF soy margarine and a slice of meat, a green italian pepper, raw. LF milk w/ LF cocoa powder and some black sugar. Cookie. (400 kcal)

12H30 - sushi bar (foreseen 1000 kcal)

16H00 - soy pudding (300 kcal) (Portion control FAILED )

19H00 - dinner at mother-in-law's, celebrating 1 yr marriage of my man's sister WITH cakes ... had grilled chicken breast w/ cooked veggies, salad, melon and cake (800 kcal)

Grand total: 2500 kcal (VERY BAD!!)

Well, the floatation was GREAT! What a relaxing experience... 1 hour in a sensory deprivation floatation tank... I didn't feel my body during this hour... You know it's funny I often forget how thing we take for granted here is so expensive in Europe! You can get a huge jar for less than $2 here...I don't know why I had such a freak out because the pb packet was the 80 cals and was the size of a fast food ketchup packet but as i was reading the label I was disgusted :( Thanks for your vote of confidence :)

Wow, unbelievable... I actually HAD tennis today morning. The weather was crappy yesterday all day, but in the afternoon it stopped raining and kept it that way during the night - so in the morning, I had - MIRACLE - clean, dry courts! We were 4 today, and I laughed so much I really couldn't play well. There's a guy called Pedro who's always mocking me, always talks to me ... He's so funny yet embarrassing because the coach is always laughing at us because of this and the other girl, Sofia as well... Today she got me to play with (as a pair) and said: "Wow, how cool is this, I'm playing with K., this means we will win because she always wins." The coach got hurt because Sofia normally plays with him in pairs LOL... and of course we've LOST this time.  But really, I couldn't stop laughing... 7 AM in the morning, I'm soooo crazy! :P

Then I had to go to our seaside office to a meeting, and I had my official 2 coffees there... ARGH... always like this.

Tonight: FRENCH course, day 1... !!! :-)

TOMORROW: National Holiday. We have a one-hour FLOATING SESSION (I'm going to be naked, in a closed capsule with salty water without any light/noise, my brain will disable its functions because there will be no need of using them, I won't feel any bodyweight, so they say this is upmost relax, zen time) to get rid of the stress (my man offered this to me) and then lunch @sushi's.

i just read your comment on my page...To kill a Mockingbird was required reading material when I was in 3rd?? grade...I devoured the book in a few hours..Well it was a few years later that I watched the movie and it was just as great, it was one of my childhood favorites..It is written by Harper Lee..She grew up in Alabama and one of the characters is based on another famous author who was her neighbor(Truman Capote now there was an interesting guy to say the least) Truman wrote In Cold Blood(great book awesome movie) and the book that shot him into the spotlight Breakfast at Tiffany's (now you know I love this movie) Now I would recommend reading all three if you haven't yet! I am sure you will enjoy!

I have my weight updated, LOL. The constant exercise brings its vantages! Unfortunatelly the weather is cr..ppy so I don't know if I'll be able to play tennis tomorrow.

I didn't "diary" yesterday because I'd fallen asleep in the evening. I backloged anyway. :-)

The aquafitness is getting harder - now we use all sorts of equipements to make the exercises harder... Yeah, thanks for telling. I'm already at level 3. No level up... LOL... I'm doomed.

Weather: RAINING and WINDY. Consequences: No tennis tomorrow.


09H00 - a slice of whole grain bread w/ soy margarine and a slice of ham (the other slice was gently asked by the cats, lol... no better thing to keep a diet than 3 pairs of eyes looking in dispair and a couple of MEOW's) and LF milk (300 kcal)

13H00 - grilled squid (a really small slice) with cooked veggies and salad, and a half cooked egg, a soy yogurt (500 kcal)

16H00 - a "bola de caco" (portuguese bread) w/ LF soy margarine with 2 slices of LF chicken ham and veggies (400 kcal)

17H00 - soy pudding (200 kcal) w/ cookies (100 kcal)

19H00 - some grilled meat w/ a slice of bread and veggies (300 kcal)

Grand total: 1800 kcal

Hey Kathy! I just got it last week and I think it's pretty fun. It's called "just dance" and it has like 30 songs with dance routines to follow along. It's good for me because I hate aerobics and running and pretty much aerobic exercise, but love to dance, so it's like a trick for me to work out! In this version you do pause between songs to pick a new song, but there's a new version coming out this month that has workout mode so you can do it continuously. There are videos and pictures of it on amazon if you want to check it out!

Yea, working out by doing fun stuff with people is always more fun! I tend to not do those things very often, though. Most of my friends are pretty athletic and competitive, and I am not, so as much as I love them, it tends to suck out the fun for me. Ergo, dancing to my tv is my new go to :)

Good morning, Ladies! 

Well, after tennis today I had an interesting conversation with my mother-in-law. I got to know that she was taking the same medicine as me and I called her. She said that this problem is constant, with the spine, and it's rather dangerous. It starts with dizziness, then turns into headache and nausea. The same I experienced. But then, she said, she had attacks so strong that she had to stay in bed for a week, and her children had to help her even in such simple tasks as going to the bathroom. Maybe I just got to know why am I having headaches... Btw , I took the med yesterday night (arrived home late, around 10PM because of a visit to an animal shop as a possible part-time in Sintra) and I haven't had the problem. I also started to be more careful while turning in the bed.

Funny enough, I told this today to my tennis coach, and he told me a freaky story about him going to drink water at 3 AM and waking up on the kitchen floor at 9 AM... never understood why. I wanted to tell him that maybe he had been abducted by aliens, but then I shut up .

Girls, I received so many nice comments from you on the clothes issue. You reached a topic I wanted to talk about: Giving or donating my clothes... and WHAT IF I gain the weight back in the future? I'm SO AFRAID of that you cannot imagine!!!! It's so d... easy to gain it back, and I don't want to but it happened before, and who guarantees (I know, it should be ME, only ME who can guarantee) that it never comes back?! STRESS...

I lost 30kg about 15 years ago and donated all my fabulous and expensive big girl clothes. I wish I hadn't now. I wish I had just washed them all and put them away. I am not saying that you will put your weight back one, only that it doesn't hurt to pack clothes away for a few years, especially if you have classic peices. Then when you are sure that you confident in yourself you can part with them without any worries. I sounds as if you are going to have to keep a careful watch on your health in the future. Kathy, I agree with Moogy there, just to be on the safe side. It doesn't mean that I don't trust you to maintain your lower weight. It just means that one should always be pragmatic. It happened to me before and I did have to replace my whole wardrobe. It became very expensive and buying bigger clothing was not a very pleasant experience, to say the least. Stay well, take care of yourself.

ALthough some will not agree I totally think that the though of spending money on bigger clothes is an motivation to keep the weight off...Now when you get closer to your goal weight maybe keep a few items perhaps a size or two bigger...We all doubt ourselves sometimes but I can honestly say that for me keeping the large clothes would be questioning my dedication to keeping it off, but hey we all have our things you know??

I think I have to agree with V here. For me anyway, getting rid of the really big sizes (in my case MATERNITY clothes) is a way to finalize this process for me. There is no turning back! I also agree to maybe keep a size or 2 larger after you reach goal weight as no one is perfect and life and circumstances will cause fluctuations, sometimes big ones. I hope you get things sorted out with your spine and that the new meds work for you. Have a great weekend!

I got rid of my largest sizes, but kept a size or two above my smallest size mainly for a post-pregnancy wardrobe. As for you, I seriously dont think it is necessary to keep your starting weight clothes because I am sure you will NEVER let yourself get to that point ever again. So, if I were your position this is what I would do:

Once I hit the 200lb mark, I get rid of everything that is too big either by donation or resale (ebay or some other online store may work if there is no physical location that does this) and put that resale money towards new clothes. Also, I would keep my absolute favorite pieces and have them resized once I reached and maintained my goal weight for 6 months. After I've done all this, I would probably keep everything that fits me comfortably at 200lbs or less. That way, if I do gain some weight back due to health issues or pregnancy, I'll have a small wardrobe to use while I get back in shape.

Im glad that the meds seem to be helping your spine!

I had to go read your last entry and I would say find someone who can really use them and get them out of the house (they will REALLY appreciate them! I know because I have gotten some before...that way it saves them a lot of money and you have NO excuse. I have heard from others who have lost and gained before that it made it easier to gain it back knowing that they already had the clothes...AND they never had to tell hubby that they gained because they just started wearing their old clothes. If you get rid of them its harder to gain because that way you KNOW you have to buy new clothes again and maybe it will help you stay in line. I know I'm getting rid of all mine...I don't have expensive ones though so its a lot easier. I just shop at walmart. As I lose though I will spend more I KNOW it lol. So I guess if you have expensive clothes it is harder to make that decision. I DO know that people DO really appreciate the donation. I know I did! I found mine on craigslist for free.
