Hello, girls!

I posted some photos for you (check below!) !

The little boy from the photos: This is my cousin's son, 9-month old Christopher (in Hungarian: Kristóf). The next boy is coming, his little brother. Will be named Oliver or Tibor. I love this little guy!

On the other hand, his parents are being real pains in the ass. Nothing's good enough, nothing's tasty enough, every place is ordinary. The things I do are weird, and I look old, and my face became less pretty (because of the diet), and I should stop, because I've already headed for the wrong direction, I must be sick, etc. etc.... LOL. Imagine? If I wouldn't be a "wouldn't care less" and a positive mindset girl, I would have sent them to hell already. They are lucky enough. I, therefore, swallow, and follow my individual plans... 

My man has already given up the fight, that coward. He stayed at home. Told him to come but he refused, so I'm kinda unhappy with him, he's not being my back aid... Well, he's the pessimist I guess.

Well, I'm going to have some sports in at the nearby park. Will be back later!

By the way! I won't write my food log this week, but I will be on auto-pilot. I'm also trying to exercise my oath "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants." and I'm failing the middle part but I'm trying. Too much is going on, I guess.

Candace, come back to meeeee.... Nita, come back to meeeeeee.... I miss you girls, so much!!!! We are destined to fail, we are human beings... but we are able to change ourselves, our habits, and that's the most important! Love you!

BTW, we are constantly changing e-mails with the tennis guy from the other day but I don't feel guilty as there's no sign of flirting or whatsoever. I think I'm building a strong friendship here.

You know what you've accomplished--if others choose to pick one millimeter of the whole picture and focus on it--what are you gonna do!

Sorry to hear about the negativity that's being thrown your way... sometimes people don't like to see other people accomplishing something that they would like to do themselves, but can't OR they don't like change, no matter what it is.... Glad to hear you aren't letting them get to you!

Kathy you look great and dont worry about the negative. My daughter told me yesterday because of my weight loss I have wrinkles in my neck. I said that is cause my double chin is smaller lol.

Good for you, ignoring your cousin's negativity! You and everyone else here on DD's know of your accomplishment and how important it is for your health, not to mention your appearance and how you physically feel. As you know, you just have to ignore some people.

Hello, Girls!

I got completely exhausted yesterday. I really pushed my body to the limits with 2,5 hrs of tennis training + 2 hours of table tennis... Gosh. And in addition, I had over 2000 kcals (it's ok for this amount of exercise I guess), which wouldn't be a problem IF a major amount of these wouldn't have been "junk food" like ice-cream (sorbet, 0% fat but w/ sugar) and biscuits leftovers (no sugar added, whole grain)... So I wonder how my blood test appear...

I'm a bit worried girls, I want your opinion... Listen: I went to the hospital today to get my blood test + X-Rays + ECG done. These results are necessary for the surgery. So, the girl who took my blood, asked me if I had eaten or drunk anything before. I told her no, but then I remembered, on the way to work, that I actually had a sip of water in the morning. I wouldn't be this worried if this test wouldn't be for the surgery. So, is there a possibility that drinking water would alter the results and hide something that would result something disasterous during the surgery?
UPDATE at 5PM: thanks for the support, I love you all! I am not worried anymore.  BTW I also scheduled for my diet doctor (endo), I haven't seen him since January! LOL...

Today's menu:

09H45 - a banana (50 kcal)

10H00 - a soy yogurt and LF milk w/ coffee (150 kcal)

13H00 - a grilled veal (200 gr/7 oz) with salad with vinagrette dressing, asparagus cream, a cappuchino coconut flavour, an orange (800 kcal)

16H00 - some melon (YUCK!!!!!!!!!!), a small apple and a LF yogurt (200 kcal)

20H00 - veggie soup (200 kcal), a salmon burger w/ veggies and rice, some mango and a calcium-rich yogurt (300 kcal)

Grand total: 1700 kcal

Before You Exercise

Food eaten before exercise should be relatively low in fat and fiber, moderate in protein and relatively high in carbohydrate to maximize maintenance of blood glucose.

Within 30 minutes after exercise, dietary goals are to provide adequate fluids, electrolytes, calories, protein and carbohydrates to replace muscle glycogen and promote recovery. A carbohydrate intake of approximately 0.5-0.7 grams per pound during the first thirty minutes and again every two hours for four to six hours will be sufficient to replace glycogen stores. Protein consumed after exercise will provide amino acids for building and repair of muscle tissue. So adding protein 0.2 g - 0.5 g/kg/day to carbohydrate at a ratio of 3 - 4:1 (Carbohydrate: Protein) may further improve glycogen re-synthesis so properly refuel for future exercise.

I really don't think a "sip" of water would cause problems but to put your mind at ease, why don't you call the testing location. It's a simple question and I'm sure you can get a quick response. When's your surgery?

Thanks for the soup suggestion! Will definitely do that once we're past the hot summer months. In the meantime, I'll just bite the bullet and gulp down water.

I doubt that a sip of water would do anything. I think they are more concerned with you taking in coffee, tea, juice or milk. Something with elements other than Hydrogen and Oxygen. But if you are concerned, you should definitely call the center. It's not a bad question.

Wow, look at your weight loss. You are 178. Inspirational!

I have a question, I noticed that you do a whole lot of hours of exercise per day. How do you even have the time? Is it just me that is forced to work crazy hours?

And what I meant by natural foods was not eating raw so much as foods that aren't processed, or baked goods. I am trying to stay away from things that are sold in cans, made with preservatives, and the like. It's not that easy but I am hoping to at least hit 50% of my daily intake. I didn't realize I was eating so much processed food until I stopped doing so consciously.

I've been told water is OK before my various blood tests, just no other beverages or foods. I think you'll be fine. Awesome job on all that exercise!

The water won't effect your test results. Wow - what workouts you had! I'd say the 2000 cals is OK since you did so much exercise! Way to go!

Agree with everyone on the water issue. In fact I had blood tests recently & they said it was ok to have some water. Maybe you need a rest day. Just a thought...

Hello, girls!

Yesterday we went to do some shopping for my cousins visit, pampers and babyfood. I was grumpy and hungry - we bought cooked shrimps. VERY TASTY, and only 99 kcals / 3,5 oz (100 gr) - I love it. I think I would be able to diet on shrimps, hahahah.

The shrimp diet

day 1: shrimps
day 2: shrimps
day 3: shrimps ... 
day 365: shrimps

LOL! I'd love it.

I had two hours of training today morning, the coach compensated one of the lost trainings, and the day after tomorrow I'll have more. FINALLY. And today evening me and my colleague will go and play table tennis (aka pingpong), two hours. I'm UNSTOPPABLE!!!!

Tomorrow morning I have blood analysis scheduled, along with two X-Rays and an ECG scan. For the surgeon and for the anaestesiologist. Before these all, I'm planning to attend the training. LOL... :-)

Lagos, will be from the 15th! :-)

06H00 - LF yogurt w/ a banana (200 kcal)

11H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

I LOVE shrimp!! They taste fantastic off the grill (indoor or outdoor, doesnt matter), broiled, boiled, sauteed, hot, and cold. Oh, they also taste delicious battered and deep-fried with a side of hushpuppies (the food, not the shoes, haha), but I only enjoy this meal when I visit my homestate 1-2 times per year. :)

Congrats to your cousin's upcoming family addition. Little boys are so much fun!:)

 I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired. LOL... I was so proud of myself yesterday, 5 hours of playing tennis, and I felt great at night. You know all this, I was bragging about it yesterday evening.

I woke up today morning and went to my training. Coach appeared (yuppeyay). Uhh.. but then, in the middle of the training my legs started to tremble, my eyes were crossing hahahahha... ok, I could make it but it was so hard, so tiring! I was at my limits! This train wouldn't stop anyway! :-)

Today's menu:

06H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, a banana (200 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, an apple (150 kcal)

12H00 -veggie soup,  lamb spinach curry (600 kcal) w fresh tomato and a small piece of yellow melon, a LF yogurt and a whole grain, no-sugar added biscuit (150 kcal)

15H00 - 3 kiwis (100 kcal)

16H30 - a LF yogurt (100 kcal), 2 kiwis and a small apple (100 kcal)

17H30 - a biscuit (50 kcal)

21H00 - veggie soup w/ chickpeas and sour cream, cooked shrimps, fruits and a LF yogurt (800 kcal)

Grand total:2200 kcal

There was a diarist here that was an absolute raw foodist--briansgirl/rawfoodist and she may have had one other nickname. She lost a ton of weight going raw for some time.

I guess when you say a family doing the raw food you mean sort of a cult or practically religious sort of thing??? There's no question that people who embrace the raw food thing are very passionate about it.

BTW, That's a great plan on your weigh-ins--to focus on the task of surgery and recovery--good for you!

Gonna read your when is a cal not a cal article, but I can't do the raw good thing. Tried it - not for me. About being tired - there is a cure for that! LOL - get some rest and hit it again tomorrow or the next day - how much longer until your visit to lag? I looked that place up on Wiki...wow looks terrific! I have worked out until I got really shakey before and it is kind of scary especially if you can't figure out why - not enough to eat, dehydrated?? Who knows - take care of yourself, Kat-

Great day!!!! 5 hours of tennis and I don't feel sore, nothing! I took a Magnesium+Calcium supplement in the morning, then one before lunch and one before dinner. I feel the power, and my legs are not making THE sound!!!! I'm so happy.

BTW Sweetpea, I tried the advice from the Active.Com site, and ate sour cream before the game (fat+protein). I was UNSTOPPABLE! Unfortunately MIL gave us codfish w/ potatoes for lunch, and I went to play after lunch, very strong sunshine and over 30 Celsius (86 F's) so I got really sluggish.

As for the results: I lost against the morning player (dang, he was good), NOT MISERABLY again, but ... lost! Sigh. 2-6, 0-6. Looks miserable anyway, but it was a good game. Then, I won the game in the afternoon. I drank like 0,8 gallons of water during the day and I could drink more!

As for food, I did well! Look, 1600 kcals! :-D

Today's menu:

08H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, sour cream and a prune (250 kcal)

12H00 - a nectarine 50 kcal

13H00 - codfish from the oven w/ roasted potatoes and salad (600 kcal) and a yogurt (100 kcal)

19H30 - grilled chicken breast (500 kcal) and a LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

21H30 - an orange (50 kcal)

Grand total: 1600 kcal

Oh, Katlin! I LOVED the way you described how you feel when you plan tennis. You against the world one lone player on one side of the net another on the other side.....down right poetic. That is kind of how I feel on the bike. Just me the bike and the road - untold miles stretching had of me - like endless possibilities! Also - how did you come up with taking mag-cal supplment 3 times for soreness??? What type of supplement was it and what noice didn't your legs make???? I must be way behind on the leg noise! LOL!

Good morning, Girlies!

A brand new day - will be wiser than the previous one. SIGH... I had a work related stress and it resulted in: biscuits. And approximately 3500 kcals by the end of the day?! And pains in my mouth... and dry mouth for the whole night! BAHHH.... Well, it happens, and if I'd swear that I wouldn't do it again, it would be a barefaced lie. We have to live with these failures, right? Nobody's perfect. OK, maybe Chalene? LOL!

I hope to get some relief from the 14th to 27th, when I enter in VACATIONS MODE!!! :-) I'm going to visit Lagos between 15-22 July with my cousin who's coming from Hungary with her hubs+1yr old boy. Then they come to Lisbon, and will leave on the 28th. This is a photo from Lagos, I have this image on a fridge magnet, but I haven't been there just yet:

Now I have to leave, I have to catch the 9 AM train and get an extra sweaty  45 min cardio training at the gym, then 2 classes of aquafitness (HidroDeep and PowerDeep) is waiting for Mon Chérie Moi! :-)

UPDATE: great day so far ! I had my sweeeeaty workout at the gym (24min running/walking, 10 min step), gave me a deficit of around 400 kcals which is super-cool! I had to clean both machines after usage because I sweated all over them, hahahah... Then my two aquafitness classes, super-exigent, they were the same as yesterday. The stupid cramps returned though, 20-EUR-super-expensive dietary supplement doesn't make an effect as it seems. Well, with time it will help, I'm positive.

We went to do some shopping, but I was pretty grumpy and ended up suspending any conversations w/ man who also lost his patience in the meantime because of me wandering around the supermarket without ideas... Well, I have my cousin and her family coming next week, they stay for 2 weeks, and I'm super-excited and nervous because they are very picky, and they come with a baby (born last October!), and I don't have the experience nor clues whatsoever... and I want to provide them with 5-star, quality time, something to remember, POSITIVELY, and I want them to tell positive stories to their friends and family, I want them to want to come back for a second, third, etc. round! Yes, I want them to WANT that, I don't want them to come back actually, LOL... mixed feelings here, girls, sorry! 

Now I'd need some rest, but of course, I have to work..............

Tomorrow looks interesting, I have TWO tennis matches booked for: 9-11 AM, and then 3 to 5 PM... LOL 4 hours of tennis is lots of hours for a single day, maybe I'm going to die, but I'm going to die doing what I love most, few can say, hahahah...

08H30 - coffee w/ milk, a prune (100 kcal)

12H00 - a muesli bar (60 kcal)

13H30 - lamb spinach w/ curry at the indian restaurant (w/ white rice and indian bread and fresh vegetables) (600 kcal)

14H30 - a cup of ice-cream, dietary (no+sugar, non-dairy) (240 kcal)

17H30 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

19H00 - LF yogurt. a small orange, a nectarine, and an apple (250 kcal)

20H30 - veggie soup w/ sour cream on top (400 kcal)

Grand total: 1700 kcal (PERFECT!)

Hey Kat! Your comment regarding muscle soreness piqued my curiosity, so I did a search. Here is what I found: http://www.intense-workout.com/muscle_soreness.html

My guess is that your body is really strong when it comes to the exercises you do, so your muscles don't tear as much as they do when you first start. But no worries though, as long as you're still seeing progress (inches lost, pounds lost, increased endurance), you're still getting an effective workout. If you're craving muscle soreness, I'd recommend finding something you're body isnt used to or good at. For me, its increasing the amount of weight I use, most ab exercises, and quad exercises like squats with weights in my hands, and step ups while holding weights.

But yea, 4 hours of tennis may make you pretty darn sore. I know I wouldnt last that long, lol!!

Bahh, the tennis coach cancelled again. I wonder for how long can he do this to me. How odd, don't you think? I'm trying to get in shape, exercise is not an issue but a pleasure, and then I get people like this in my way ... Unlucky me - it's 6h30 and I'm working. I wanted to go to hidroCycle instead, but my neck is not OK, I feel a huge tension... and even then I'm working. I'd like to go back to bed! :-(

I went to a geek party yesterday night, Microsoft HTML 5 workshop... LOL, I got two t-shirts and I fell in love with a geek, hahahah....

DETAILS? I 'm afraid there aren't too many! Hehehe... I just liked the guy, Vasco - he used to be my type when I was a teenager: crazy haircut, cute smile, funny expression, geek body (no muscles can be seen anywhere, white as a badly cooked white-flour bread - note that I found the guy today on LinkedIn and he used to be a basketball coach, of a professional club! That's a plus at the moment anyway, hehehehe)...

Today's menu:

08H00 - corn bread, toasted, w/ red bell pepper and LF milk w/ 20% coffee, a prune (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

12H30 - green turnip soup w/ bread (500 kcal), carrot pie (200 kcal)

16H00 - 3 small kiwis, 3 plums, 1 nectarine, 1 yellow peach, LF yogurt (350 kcal)

17H00 - lots of biscuits (without sugar, whole grain) but no portion control, too stressed!!!! 1200 kcal!!!

19H50 - a banana (50 kcal)

21H00 - veggie soup (200 kcal)

Grand total: 3000 kcal

Exercise: aquafitness in the evening... YAY :-)

Dang! No tennis again. No hydrocyle! No fair.....how's your neck today? Is the hydrocycle a stationary bike or what? I have noticed that my bike rides are causing much tension and some numbness in my neck and between shoulders. I know it's because I am riding too far, too fast on the particular bike I have. The handlebars are not made for much distance. I dream of getting a new one with better gears, proper handlebars and an odometer and speedometer to track statistics.....hope you have a better day today, Kat! Just introduce me to that tennis instructor - I'll slap him around a bit for you!!! :o) I can't believe he didn't send a substitute, either!

Good morning, Girlies!

I loved to read this quote (above) today. It's so true - we can change, we have the power inside.

I went to tennis today, but I couldn't stay in the gym for a muscle building session, as my neck is still aching. Dang, I love tennis but it's killing me (softly). And I challenged some guys to play while I still can (over July!).

I am extremely happy that the sports complex continues from October. I decided to continue paying the Gold VIP membership, and enroll for tennis twice a week, too. I don't know if I can go, but I will try at least, and my friends there can continue too, because they only open trainings from at least 3 persons enrolled, and I have two friends who want to continue Tuesdays/Thursdays from 8 to 9h. They were worried that the complex wouldn't open the class because they were only 2. If I enroll, too, we are 3 and they need to open the class. Even if I can't play tennis in the beginning, my name is there and they can go. Then, when I feel ready, I join! Until then, aquafitness and swimming all the time! POSITIVE THOUGHTS!

 PS: I enrolled to Spanish classes after work, from September. New language, YAY!

That is awesome news on the sports complex. And of course Portugal would produce port, I didn't even think of that! I love port but it is so sweet so it's a very occasional treat for me when I have dinner out.

spanish class sounds fun!!! I'm thinking of taking a spanish class this coming winter with my husband so when we move south, we will be more marketable as in the southern (florida and California) US, Spanish is very prevalant

Yesterday evening was great, despite of my man's terrible manners before, during and after my tennis match. I swore, again, that I would never invite him to see my games anymore. I thought, stoopid me, so naive, that he would be happy to share some of the joyful moments of my sport life. I'd love to have someone who shares my interests - I think it's rather crucial in a relationship as "the flame should last forever but we know it doesn't". We do share some interests but not sports. So sad. ANYWAY... I've got beaten up, as predicted... LOL... the results were: 6-0, 6-1 for him. ANYWAY... I could have won some more sets, but I didn't have the spirit, nor the concentration needed. I do miss game practice...

I let myself sleep today morning, as my tennis coach was absent, sick. He told me to compensate next Tuesday, by staying there for two hours instead of one.

GOOD (SUPERB!!!) NEWS: The sports complex WILL open next year - 1st of October is the official date, they announced yesterday! I'm SOOOO HAPPY!!!! My plans are: surgery, then recovery, then physioteraphy for a month (means exercises and pool at the hospital for 2 euros/session, I did this in the past, duration 2 hours, 3 times a week), then... back to aquafitness and swimming classes from the 1st Oct. Actually the date of re-opening is perfect for me!

Today's menu:

08H00 - a probiotic bun w/ green bell pepper, toasted, a LF yogurt (250 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

11H00 - 2 nectarines (100 kcal)

12H30 - a piece of bread (80gr), courgette soup (350 kcal), fresh cottage cheese w/ tomato and cucumber (300 kcal)

16H00 - 2 nectarines, 2 plums (150 kcal)

20H00 - veggie soup (300 kcal), milk shake, fruits (300 kcal)

Grand total: 1800 kcal

Yesterday night I switched on the TV, and I caught a US documentary series called "Family Fat Surgeons". GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ, I got sooo impressed. There was this guy, who had lost 320+ lbs with diet + exercise (no surgeries), and he was having his extra skin removed. They actually showed the surgery, it was so disgusting and in the same time amazing! And then there was this family, a threesome: father, mother and daughter. They were all awfully fat and enrolled for gastric bypasses. They were on a liquid diet, for a week, and they were rather skeptic, "Yes, yes, we'll hold on.." but they obviously didn't have the willpower. Then the woman told the camera they were awfully fat because they've lost a 3-year-old, who drowned in their pool (by her own negligence, she said).  But then she showed a photo, them and the kid, and they were awfully fat back then, while the kid was still alive, so that was a really horrible excuse! I mean, it could have been true, but it just is not... playing the heart strings for sympathy is always easier I guess. That drowning story scares the bejesus out of me because my 3-year-old has fallen into our pool, with me standing there watching him and immediately fishing him out! You can't take your eyes of your kids for even a second when they don't know how to swim....this is why I'm trying to teach them young and get them used to the pool.

What is a probiotic bun? Sorry to hear your guy isn't supportive of the tennis. Mine won't exercise either, he thinks playing the drums once per week is enough, which it isn't. But we won't let that stop us!

Kathy mutual interest is great but not always perfect. My exhusband and I enjoyed everything together, same music, movies, camping ,fishing, books, and eating. But he wouldnt work and that ended up being the deal breaker. He sat in his recliner and ate while I worked. He gained 300lbs and ended up not able to walk at all.

That's crazy about the cost to ship vino! I will have to look for Portuguese wine next time I go to the store, I know the Spanish tempranillo grape is very good so I'm guessing you can grow similar in your region. Thanks for thinking of me ;)

Lastly to answer the question in your quote, rent a giant storage warehouse or buy the empty house next door. That is what hoarders do here in the USA. :)

How are you today? I'm fine! Today's the day of the rough tennis match, LOL. And my coach was absent today - I had my last year's coach (a girl) and a lighter training. I went to the gym to build muscles, too. No cardio this time, I think I'll have it later, hahahah.

As I predicted, my thoughts are focused on the surgery now. I'm thinking, thinking and I just can't help but thinking! On the positive note, this derives my thoughts from food. Yesterday was a perfect calorie day... though I noticed I got into coffee in unhealthy depths, again...

One of my colleagues brought bio (from her father's trees) figs today. A huge amount of figs! WOW, I think this is the second time in my life I eat figs, and I just fell in love today!

Today's menu:

06H00 - LF milk w/ cinnamon on top, a small whole grain bun w/ bell pepper (250 kcal)

You always have such interesting foods. Coriander soup sounds yummy. Is there some information about coffee and weight loss?? I wanted to mention that I had joined the facebook group when I first joined DD but found that I didn't have time for both so just concentrated on DD postings.

I love, I mean LOVE my espresso machine! It does such a good job frothing milk for my lattes and mochas. If I was still living my pre-2005 lifestyle, I would probably be drinking homemade milk based coffees all day long! I cant remember, but do you drink soy milk or almond milk? If so, they make decent alternatives for milk in coffees. So, if you want to have more than one, use cow's milk for the first one and do use of the non-dairy milks for the next one. :)

Anyway, great job on the calorie intake!!

I was very nervous leading up to my surgery last January, but I was also in horrible shape and very unhealthy. You are in a great position to be facing a surgery and I know you're going to feel so much better! Enjoy your new milk frother, I have one but I'm horrible at it!

Love your pictures from over the weekend!! I know that surgery is SUPER scary, but as someone who had two MAJOR surgeries as a teenager and now am able to live a normal life as a result of them, try to keep the faith, the outcome really is worth it!!

I am so happy that these anxious pre-surgery days will be over for you soon! I saw your comment on another diary about your BMI going down as your height goes up - wonderful thoughts! It is so wonderful, too, that your health is like it is now - good - as opposed to how your health was a couple of years ago....you have done a wonderful job taking care of yourself and this surgery will be a part of that, too. Praying (in advance) for the best outcome!

Since you mentioned the coffee and in the same entry, surgery, one thing people may not be told by their dr is on the day of surgery, you more than likely won't drink caffeine (not sure if you always drink a.m. caffeine). But you might think of cutting back in the days before (if you won't be allowed to drink it that day) so you can avoid the withdrawal headache. Just a thought:-)
