Good morning, Girls!

Below you can find two pics from the weekend. It was soooo cool, we enjoyed so much having this break. We hadn't been doing too much, mainly talking and eating, lol... as predicted. This week will be better, food-wise (our fridge is empty now) and mentally calmer.

Today's menu:

06H00 - LF milk, a small bun w/ 2 slices of turkey ham, bell pepper, 1 prune (400 kcal)

09H30 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

11H30 - 2 plums (50 kcal)

13H30 - veggie soup without potatoes (diet) - (100 kcal), asparagus cream (200 kcal), cappuchino (100 kcal)

16H30 - 2 plums w/ a LF yogurt (150 kcal)

20H00 - 2 plums (50 kcal)

21H30 - some turkey ham leftovers with a half bell pepper (100 kcal), a calcium+ yogurt and a prune (150 kcal), LF milk w/ coffee and some melon (150 kcal)

Grand total: 1500 kcal

Exercise: tennis & aquafitness

Hello, girls!

I won't be online over the weekend, you know. I'm more than ready for the trip, hahahah. Yesterday ended up around 3000 kcals AGAIN. I'm terrible...

On the way to bed, I stopped in front of the mirror and talked to myself. I think it worked. No binges for me from now on, me and my body don't give up, we must not gain, nor weight nor a mental problem (binge). Especially not before the surgery, come on. I think I understood the topic now. At least the person in the mirror looked as if... Well, let's hope for progress.

Man's in the unemployment system now, finally. Now he has to prove, on a weekly basis, that he's effectively searching and sending CV's. He has to have at least one stamp from a company per week to show at the Work Centre if he's called in for a review. Until then, he's entitled to receive the unemployment benefit. What a strange name, "benefit". I think it's a penalty, not a benefit but nevermind.

Well, I'm sooo mentally prepared for the trip!!!! Will bring photos! :D

Stop and have another talk with yourself along the way if you need to, Kat! I usually think of FOOD when I think of having fun - my strategy this weekend will be to have fun in other ways that do not focus on food. I will try to enjoy the people I'm around more than ususal. I'll let you know how it goes and I'll have a talk with MYSELF if I am waivering much at all! Will miss you, but look for you when you return.

Hello, girls!

The game was gooooood yesterday, but we're still in a draw so we'll have to schedule and continue. I'm so weak, I couldn't make it to hydroCycle today morning. I'm pissed but my body needs rest after a 1,5 hour intense game. And next Tuesday will be worse, much worse!

I really have to enjoy my last month of tennis and exercise before the surgery and one month of forced bed. I also know that my eating have be different, less calories while in bed (it doesn't seem that complicated nor difficult, all I have to do is concentrate on other things, I could learn something new, or practice, improve my freshly acquired French knowledge instead of "boredom eating") and most probably I will lose muscle, which is sad. I hope to get back to the pool in September, and I also want to have a month of phisioteraphy, I hope I can squeeze it from the insurance, too.

I had a small fight with my man yesterday night. I got home rather grumpy because of the public transports' stuupid schedules (there are no trains from 8 PM from a major station to our direction and I went there in vain!!! I was so tired, dirty, sweaty after the game, and I had to turn back and choose "the long way home"). Then I broke news about the surgery, and told him that his help would be much appriciated later when papers would need to be treated with the social security to guarantee that I receive an income while not working. He got all stressed over it, saying that MAYBE it wouldn't be needed after all, etc. etc.... so stupid! There are certain bureaucrazy issues that one cannot possibly avoid. And when it's about money, when it's about money to be RECEIVED!!! then I think it would worth a morning's time investment of his currently very busy unemployed life..... GRRRR.... well, MEN! He went to the government's office yesterday to present with the papers to receive the unemployment paycheck, but he went to the WRONG PLACE , spent a whole morning there in the queue, then of course he went home instead of going to the CORRECT PLACE. He went there today, he's in a twice bigger queue as yesterday's... patience. No one told him it would be a piece of cake.

Good news is, we have the tickets to Évora. I'm foreseeing an active, yet relaxing weekend.

08H00 - toasted corn bread w/ diet strawberry jam, milk, some ananas and 2 prunes (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ cofee (100 kcal)

11H00 - LF yogurt (50 kcal)

12H30 - bacalhau a Gomes Sá (boiled codfish w/ potatoes and bread) - 800 kcal

15H00 - 3 small, whole grain biscuits w/ fructose (100 kcal)

... BINGE AT NIGHT

I hope all goes well with the surgery. My husband lost a lot of muscle weight during his surgery recovery, but you can can gain it all back, later. No sweat, I mean, with lots of sweat!

You asked me about my garden the other day, sorry I forgot to answer... yes, we did have a garden in CH, but it was huge, so I had a gardener (from Portugal) who came to take care of it on a regular basis. Here, the garden is so little, there's little to do....

Big hugs. I am sorry I know how it is my hubby was layed off last summer and it was very stressful cause I wasn't working at that time. We are STILL trying to make up for how much we got behind. Life is full of struggles it's how you get through them that is important and I am sure you will do so with class and grace. Yes you will probably lose some muscle but it won't be forever, I hope you have a great day.

Ugh, sorry about all the bureaucratic red tape. That's great that things are moving forward for your surgery though.

As for the soy nut butter, we have issues with peanut allergies in this country, so no peanut products are allowed in our schools in this town. Which is tough because my boys LOVE peanut butter and peanuts and all nuts for that matter. They are allowed to have other nut butters like hazelnut and almond, but those can be expensive since they eat so much of it. The soynut butter is an inexpensive alternative and tastes a lot like peanut butter on a sandwich. I checked mine and it's about the same actually. Same exact calories as my natural peanut better and 14 grams of fat versus 16 in the peanut butter. I would probably choose peanut butter, but I don't have that often because of the high calories. But for the boys it's a good alternative because of the "no peanut butter" rule.

What a relief! My man is out from that stressful, non-paying job. FINALLY. Now he's in the middle of bureaucrazy, but that's something one cannot possibly avoid. Only if I were a millionaire. Or him. LOL... Dang, Why am I not a millionaire!?? Life's unfair!

Paycheck received, so I bought a Calcium Magnesium Citrate (Advanced Assimilation Formula) supplement to help me on the cramps problem. It's been very annoying lately! I wake up in the middle of the night, having cramps and I want to jump out of the bed, but I have three cats all over me, and they are so cute, so cosy that I prefer not to bother them... I'm such a sweet thing, aren't I...

Today afternoon I have a friendly tennis challenge, LOL. Training didn't go too well, so I don't know if I win later. My tummy is a bit upset, too...

Yesterday's chinese restaurant threw me over my calorie limits again, but was something impossible to avoid - man hadn't eaten ANYTHING since breakfast (which was a cup of sugary coffee w/ milk as usual), and he was nervous, starving, feeling relieved AND guilty at the same time. Not guilty... he was feeling like a loser. And now come uncertain times again, between the unemployment and the next job. So I said to him: "Let's go to your favorite Chinese place and get things discussed." I want him to understand that he has my support and that I have the faith in him all the time. Love helps, too.

Today's menu:

06H30 - an apple (50 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, half bun (100 kcal)

12H30 - veggies in the oven (last dose, lol... 400 kcal), a banana w/ yogurt (100 kcal)

13H30 - cappuchino @gourmet coffee shop w/ colleagues (100 kcal)

16H00 - carrot pie & a LF yogurt (250 kcal)

17H00 -LF milk w/ coffee (decaf) and a macrobiotic bun (200 kcal)

18H45 - cereal bar before the game (100 kcal)

20H30 - cereal bar (60 kcal)

22H00 - rice with veggies and some meat curry (500 kcal), ananas and mango (100 kcal)

Grand total: 1900 kcal

UPDATE at 6 PM: the surgery was authorized by the private insurance. I'm going to be "fixed" on my man's birthday, 1st August, 2011.

Good morning, Girls!

Yesterday ended up around 3000 calories!!! Dang! My strangled mind. Let me describe what I had after those 1750 kcals I tracked yesterday: I had some meat curry on a slice of corn bread as sampling from my man's fine cousine, his latest idea and creation. I really liked it! MIL brought me chicken feet to suck, I really love them, boiled. They don't have that much meat, only cartilage (gristle?). It's good for the bones. LOL... Then, I had an other banana with 4 prunes, a LF yogurt and some cereals. Then I made a small dose of semolina w/ xillitol and black sugar & LF cocoa & cinnamon. Then, I had whole wheat, no-sugar biscuits, half pack (100 gr)... so... I had lots of extra calories, and I was raging mad. Work issues, and the stress with my man's work, the mood at home. And me, I was hungry! Today will be better.

I had a good tennis training today, despite of the extreme windy conditions... then I stayed in the gym, too, burnt some extra calories on the step machine and I used the force... LOL. Aquafitness today, if I have the energy! 

Today's menu:

06H00 - LF plain yogurt w/ muesli, 2 prunes (300 kcal)

08H00 - cereal bar (60 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (40 kcal)

12H30 - 1/2 grilled chicken breast w/ vegetables in the oven (700 kcal)

14H30 - 0% fat jelly (60 kcal)

16H00 - a big "Red Delicious" apple (100 kcal)

20H00 - chinese food w/ man and fruits, jelly (1000 kcal)

21H00 - soy yogurt (300 kcal)

Grand total: 2300 kcal

I read that when you get too close to your goal that you may sabotage yourself some because of your fear of success and the pressure that puts on you. This is normal. Don't stress about it, just pick yourself up, realize this is normal, and recommit yourself.

Great pic! Yes, the dogs love the concert - more to the point - I think they like being outside with us and having lots of things to look at. They are very well-behaved. We even get compliments on how nice they are! They typically just sit (or lie down and rest and look around). It's nice to be able to bring them places.

AAARGH! (err... this means: Good morning, girlies! in KathyBluenese today)

My knee huuuuurts... I went to aquafitness yesterday, and the water was too warm to practice a good exercise as my body became so sluggish, so floppy...  result: injury?! I don't know. Tennis went well today morning, though, but now I have second thoughts about BodyPump later at night. To be honest, I'm not in shape for such thing.

OMG, I received the name of the next opponent in my first tournament. A guy named Ricardo, I saw he was the previous winner, he's in the first 3 of the TOP10 among players. Ahh, I have no chance but I go, head held high. LOL... Check out my new approach to the subject: This is a win-win situation, one wins the game, the other wins experience, HAHAHAH... ...

Yesterday's calorie intake was perfect - 1500 kcals! WOW... I'm so proud of myself.

BTW, I called the insurance company yesterday. I wrote about this subject in yesterday's entry, read if you're curious.

Other topic: looks like as if today'd be the last day of my man at his current workplace. You know he hasn't been receiving any salary for months, but he got kinda stuck there, so I want to look at this on the positive side. Now that he stops losing almost 10 hours per day of his unique, once-in-a-lifetime life itself, he can start spending some quality time looking for a job and even with the right of a temporary pension of unemployment from the state... Let's hope it triggers him positively so he can finally get out of this ditch both emotionally and work-related. Life continues - the show must go on.

Wish I'd have the guts to move to the UK or to somewhere else (my real dream is Andorra), wish he'd have the guts as well...

18H00 - 4 small whole grain toasts and a tin of octopus in tomato sauce (300 kcal)

Grand total: 1850 kcal

I bought a whole ananas, had 50% discount, yuppeyayyy Small triumphs of life, aren't they pretty .

sounds like this is a good transitional period for your man - now he can truly focus on getting the job he really wants! i hope your knee feels better. i know you have more guts than most of us here! what is stopping you from moving to the UK or somewhere else?

Kat I know this is going to sound a bit selfish, but this is your life and I know you love your man but this is not the first time that you have mentioned moving to the UK...If your dream is to travel the world a bit, you should let NOTHING stop you from doing what is going to make you happy..Nothing wrong with having dreams and ambitions..If you are afraid that your man won't come with you, well you can't let that stop you...If it is meant to be he will be there waiting for you..I think now would be a great time to formulate a plan on getting there :) Love you!!!

I was missing from here for so long, I didn't know about your upcoming surgery. Do tell..If it were something serious you wouldn't be able to be so active playing tennis, taking water sports, etc.

Hey KathyBlue! The 4 Hr Body is for both guys and girls. I really enjoyed reading it, but I'm still undecided as to whether it is worth the dedication. I'll let you know in a month or two. I wasn't making much progress in the two months prior to starting it, so maybe this is a good approach for me. I think it is working slowly, but the book suggests that results will come faster, maybe I'm not following it correctly. Take care, and keep up the great work!

Hello girls!

New week, huh...?!

Yesterday we went to the Arts Fair Expo 2011. It wasn't a big deal after all, and it was too hot. 104 F's (40 Celsius), even at 7 PM, can you imagine that?! Too many people, too little space, too high prices, too similar products everywhere. I got pissed when I saw the same  stuff selling at 4 euros I saw the day before at the chinese store for less than 1 euro... Sigh! After all, everything's made in China or India! What else to expect? We were wandering around for 3-4 hours, so it was a nice and very tiring exercise under these circumstances.

The tennis coach didn't appear today, but an other, new one did. At least for me he was new... a small, skinny, middle-aged guy. LOL, at first glance he seemed a bit fake to me, but then... he was the coach of the advanced level players, LOL... Bruuuutal... I hope he appears again in the future. Ahh, talking about future, it's uncertain! The whole sports complex is about to close, the Portuguese state doesn't have the money (they always say this, don't they) to maintain it. We're raging mad, and sad. There's no other place like this! I paid 90 euros per month, but I had all sorts of activities like aquafitness, Hidrocycle, tennis, martial arts, gym, golf, aerobic activities (including Les Mills), running, collective sports (football, basketball, handball, etc.)... It is nearly impossible to get bored of the place and get workout plateaus (V!!) !

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

12H00 - bio plums, veggies in the oven (350 kcal), a low fat plain yogurt (100 kcal) and a LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

16H00 - fresh abacaxi (ananas!) (100 kcal)

20H00 - veggies w/ a boiled chicken drumstick, an apple (400 kcal)

Grand total: 1500 kcal

Later today I'm going to post the recipe of this "veggies in the oven" thingie... WOW, I found the recipe online, and I changed it a bit (of course, what else is new, I'm always inventing) and I even made photos this time! :-)

Note: I called the insurance company. The woman on the phone told me that my request was being ANALISED and that I shouldn't worry because I only sent the documents in on the 22nd of June... I told her I wasn't being impatient, just that the other day the operator has told me they would take 1 day to process. She laughed and said not to worry (again)... Well, it wasn't about HER future for sure.

Oh no!! What the heck are you supposed to do if they close?? I certainly hope there is funding to keep it open..Hey LOL!! There is a saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" and I guess you did too soon with the instructor...Is he better than the regular guy that always seems to be tardy or absent?? Maybe you can see if the new guy offers private lessons?? HUmmmm??

Thank you for your message today - also for the verse above - It is especially meanful to me today, as well. 104 F!! Ouch! I didn't think it got this hot in Portugal. By the way I have a friend coming soon to Lisbon. He is a Porfessor of Community Develpment (more ofr less) and is coming to give training to community leaders (I think). The complex may close? Oh, no! hope they can keep it open. However, it's not too soon to start planning for personal workouts at home - biking, hiking and Turbo DVDs, maybe?? Surely this is just alarming talk and they will keep it open!

Sounds as though you are having the same problems in the UK everything shutting down,youth clubs etc due to money.Taking police off the streets =more crime and prisons are overcrowded as it is.Moody has gone missing again,hope she's ok.Here's to a good week :)

Huhhh, a hot hot night we just had here in Lisbon! We slept without a blanket, which is a big word for me ... Yesterday I managed to eat only melon at night, and I'm so happy about it.

I didn't do too much yesterday night. I was watching movies, but I realized I hadn't had the patience to sit and watch the screen for long hours anymore. It bothers me a bit, but remains a fact. I'd rather go out and walk. Yesterday was too hot to move anyway! I saw Cats & Dogs - Revenge of Kitty Galore. It was lovely... hehe. Then I saw Furry Revenge, which was a bit stupid. Then the worst was The Green Hornet. Hopefully there won't be a second film...

My mother's not happy that I'm going to be absent next weekend from Skype. Well, from time to time, some climate change is needed.

Today: International Arts Show and Fair! I promise some photos!!! 

Menu:

07H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, some toasted corn bread, a fresh cheese and a huge tomato (450 kcal)

12H30 - lunch @MIL's, a soy yogurt (600 kcal)

21H00 - melon (100 kcal)

Grand total: 1150 kcal

Good morning, girls!

It's 07h50 am and I'm soon be leaving for a gym and pool combo. I'm rather tired today, yesterday was an other stressful day at work. And then, munchie attack at night, with fruits. I don't know why am I doing this. Today man asked me out for lunch right after pool, he wants to eat Chinese food so.. hey, let's go, then. The weather forecast predicts extremely hot weather for this weekend. YAYY. 104 F (40 Celsius) degs. Pretty hot, huh?!

It was good to see some of the temporarily missing regular members commenting / blogging again. I miss sweetpea and Karen - though sweetpea is on FB which is comforting.

Today I'll be here working in the afternoon, then tomorrow will be an interesting day, lunch @MIL's then a spledid afternoon at the Feira de Artesanato de Lisboa 2011 (Arts Fair Lisbon 2011)

UPDATE: I went to the gym, and I stayed there for almost two and a half hours... When I noticed the time I was already late from my beloved PowerDeep class (aquafitness level 4), well... but that was me having fun at the gym, with only 3-4 persons wandering around. I love when it's hot and sunny so people go to the beach instead! More machines for the marble white lady, LOL... Oh, this is not funny, I cannot support sunshine, I have to walk around in longsleeves and 50 pf protector all over me... So the gym, I made 1 hour cardio, I did almost everything! I tried the rowing machine, too. It's not that terrible, I thought it worse! Well, an other proof that judging before actually trying something is nonsense! Then I did the force circuit on the machines, and some floor exercises to ease my muscles. It was lovely. Of course everything was ruined a bit later in the Chinese restaurant. I had sushi, some octopus salad, some teppan-yaki fish, a squid and veggies. That was ok, but then I had 4 balls of ice cream???! Well, 104 F's (40 Celsius) degrees scream for an ice-cream. But why 4 balls. I'm so pissed. And then I swore I wouldn't let this happen anymore, but it will and my, I will feel even more frustrated with myself, and there'll be me going completely NUTS...! Because what happens to me lately is I swear too much to myself, I change my goals, I decide one thing in the morning and go completely against it in the afternoon, then get frustrated over it, then don't feel good in my skin which is terrible... I need to clean up my mind. I hope that next week will be better, and I really do hope that next weekend will help me a bit or more than a bit (that's when we go and visit our friends in an other town... AKA CLIMATE CHANGE!)...

Good morning Kathy! :) it's 4am here and I'm up feeding the baby and browsing dd lol. The arts festival you are going to sounds so fun! I love reading your entries, you always have the best pictures! Sooooo jealous of your previous entry regarding the pizza place that allows you to order healthy options online, wish we had one around here but to get healthy pizza I have to make it myself! Anyway, as for the fruit snacking, maybe it's your body craving natural sugars? I think that fruit is a perfectly fine snack, and definitely better than anything processed. Even though it is high in sugar if eaten in large quantities, I always feel proud reaching for it instead of a cookie or cake! I also am a fish lover....tilapia and salmon are my absolute FAVORITES...I could eat and eat it lol. Well have a great time at the Art Fair..can't wait to see pictures!!!!! =D

Hey! There's nothing wrong at all with eating fruit. It's a great substitute for fattening and unhealthful desserts. You know I eat it all the time.

Yesterday was a great day! Foods were OK, I'm guessing a 1800 kcals. Man made "bacalhau com broa" (codfish with potatoes and corn bread crumbs, baked in the oven), but he got really upset coz the fish remained very salty... Codfish comes to Portugal (from Norway) conserved in salt, and one has to put it in water and change the water frequently for a day to get it "cookable". Curiosity, codfish is a traditional dish here. Portuguese have cookbooks called "1000+1 ways to prepare codfish" (recipe books)... I love all sorts of fish! My favorite is chaputa (Brama Brama - Atlantic Pomfret), which is a very low-fat fish, normally its deep-fried or stir-fried because grilling it would make it even drier. I love swordfish also, codfish and then there's the only fat fish I really love: salmon, yummy.

Today morning I woke up at 5h30, all happy to go to my tennis training - when I discovered a text message on my cell, from the coach, telling - guess what - that he wouldn't appear today. At least he said, so I quickly switched to hidroCycle clothes & mood (I was an inch away to fall back to sleep, but then I remembered how much I liked HidroCycle ) and went to catch the bus anyway. I was soooo right, girls - the HidroCycle class was terrific, really hard today, and then I had an even harder BodyBalance class. The 53th CD is on; very hard on the force exercises, very strange for the abs ones. The 50th was the best for me, in terms of back and neck. The followings were too exigent in terms of the spine...

Today's menu:

06H30 - light soy milk, tomato and toasted corn bread (400 kcal)

11H30 - LF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

13H00 - grilled chicken w/ asparagus cream and a huge red bell pepper, a nectarine (700 kcal)

14H00 - cappuchino (100 kcal)

17H00 - soy yogurt (100 kcal)

20H00 - veggie soup (200 kcal), a bio yogurt (150 kcal), an orange, a banana and two plums (200 kcal) + food sampling

Grand total: 2000 kcal

I promise to catch you up to speed with the boys...The plane guy was sooo 6 guys ago..LOL I have moved on...Bootcamp??? Not me. Turbo keeps me plenty busy...LOL I promise I shall give you a detailed memo to the new guys in my life ;)

Hey Kathy, you're right I should be eating a little more than 1100 calories a day. My problem is I never know how many calories are in things I cook! I'm always just guessing! I try to pay attention to how I feel. For instance, yesterday I felt fairly hungry in the evening so I had some peanut butter. I'm guessing my calorie count every day is more around 1400, but I can't be entirely sure. Bah. Oh, you're right that weight matters when you fall too. More inspiration to lose weight? Hey, I'll take it! :)

Good deal on the HidroCycle and BodyBalance. I guess the aerobics are too many complicated movements for me, and I just don't enjoy jumping around like that. I forced myself to do it in college and I don't like to do exercise I don't enjoy at this point in my life, since this is a lifestyle choice. I much prefer outdoors - hiking, walks, gardening, etc. But I better get back on the Kinect and bicycle since it's been raining!

Oh, I hear you on the coffee and social relationships--that's a little harder. But once you know just how it may be interfering with your actual health, caffeine is really just another drug to manage/watch closely or avoid. I'll at least hit the high points on another entry.

Yeah, when my dr asked if I wanted the prescription for the five pill/day or the three pill/day antiviral regimen and told me the price to expect to pay, my exact words were, "I guess that's the cost of LIVING!"
