Weight: 263.0

YES!!! I'm under 120! This is very close to a landmark for me (117 kgs) because 117 and 107 (I'm talking in kilos) are the most I could achieve as an adult. But this burden of mine is to overcome by my strong will and my family/friends - you, the best community I've ever been!

Today the Pope comes to visit Portugal. Therefore the metro and stuff are closed, I haven't been to tennis because of the rain (no fitness, I walked to work instead).

Today's menu:

08H15 - cup of LF milk with coffee substitute (20% coffee) and cereals (250 kcal)

11H00 - a soy yogurt (100 kcal)

12H30 - cooked chicken drumstick with cooked veggies (300 kcal)

14H00 - the dessert for lunch, a vanille flavour yogurt I was craving for (150 kcal)

17H00 - an apple (80 kcal)

20H30 - veggie soup (300 kcal)

Total: 1200 kcal

Progress as of today: 53.6 lbs lost so far, only 42.5 lbs to go!

nita51 on 05/11/2010:
YES! YES! YES! You are rocking sis, Hugs! to you! Your weight loss is off the chain! 53,6 GONE! - Take Care & Keep up the fantastic job.

I hope today is a great diet day. Wow what a loss, keep working it.

Umpqua on 05/11/2010:
Great work Kathy!!

mcwoo40 on 05/11/2010:

nita51 on 05/12/2010:
Well sis, I got a big giant mother's day cake. ( only tasted a tiny sliver ) my boyfriend bought me a printer, copier, scanner ( all in one ) I got taken out to dinner. My oldest daughter, is a composer & singer, and has just completed her first CD, and she acknowledged and thanked me, for inspiring her musical career, and it can be read right on the CD cover. So all and all, I had a blast. Sis, and once again, I am so proud of you, on your great loss. Hugs!

I'm looking forward to a boring day today, as the National football Champ is the rival of my team. They won yesterday. I hate the adepts of this club, really... and they are so many...

Today's menu:

09H00 - two toasts with a triangle cheese and a cup of milk w/ coffee (250 kcal)

12H30 - grilled chicken with cucumber (500 kcal)

14H30 - a soy yogurt (yes, let's try it - I bought a pack of these) (100 kcal)

18H00 - a soy yogurt (100 kcal) and 4 cookies (120 kcal)

20H30 - veggie soup with a bratwurst and a banana (300 + 200 + 80)

Total: 1600 kcal

A confession: It is extremely difficult for me, even after 5 months of dieting and never losing the track, to keep the doses inside the limit. Especially with yogurts and chocolates, things that I love and don't fill my tummy... I could, I know, eat the 4 pack yogurt at once without glimpsing the eye, or eat a whole pack of chocolates, too. That's why I try to not buy them at all. I'm very surprised how I behave with the chcolate I have at home since Easter. The only pack I opened a 250 gr almonds covered with chocolate, no sugar added (but same calorie levels so it must mean that it's worse as it has additional fats) and I still have some of these left. But it requires a huge control, and sometimes things go out of hands - stress levels up, or something. I restricted myself so I don't eat any of these on weekends, when it's easier to get them anytime I want, and during watching TV...

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!

geevee on 05/10/2010:
It takes time to develop control over quantity, but it IS doable. Keep trying.

mcwoo40 on 05/10/2010:
doing well, keep it up, Jules

loveray on 05/10/2010:
a little coconut goes a very long way and its such good and tasty fat:) hope you try it and enjoy. xo

legcramps on 05/10/2010:
I have chocolate in the house. I put it in a container on the counter with the bananas and bread. The chocolate is actually buried underneath, so I often forget about it, but just six or eight months ago, I wouldn't be able to have it in the house. I figure if I can limit the chocolate intake to once every couple of weeks, i'm doing good! Good luck to you!

Good morning!

My man came back. :-) I will try to get a nice photo from him, from Egypt, to share later.  He enjoyed it but he said the arabs there are very oriented on pumping out as much money as they can from the tourists. But he managed to cheat on THEM, great . He brought me a fridge magnet! I'm collecting them! I don't have any from the USA but I have one from Equador. :-)

Today's menu:

08H30 - LF milk w/ 20% coffee substitute and cereals (250 kcal)

11H00 - pomelo (50 kcal)

13H15 - a cooked drumstick with cooked veggies (300 kcal)

14H30 - the last alpro soy soft caramel pudding (102 kcal, 100% vegetal)

17H00 - a Nestlé Fitness bar (100 kcal) at the Book Fair 2010

19H00 - two toasts with a fresh LF cheese and cucumbers, pomelo (200 kcal)

Grand Total: 1000 kcal

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!

I went to give blood/urine samples... and then I arrived home around 13h, without eating or drinking. So my menu was pretty much marked by this:

13H30 - veggie soup (300 kcal)

15H00 - pomelo and 2 cookies (no sugar, WW) (150 kcal)

20H00 - sushi bar, I ate cooked veggies with some meat and sushi, but I overate for sure so I say 1000 kcal for this.

Grand Total: 1500 kcal (OK, but not OK: 100 more than target and no exercise besides walking)

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!

12H00 - half apple (50 kcal), a cookie (without sugar, 30 kcal)

12H45 - the same as yesterday, maybe a bit more in dose (the rests) (400 kcal)

15H30 - cookies and an apple (150 kcal)

20H00 - grilled salmon (300 kcal) and spinach with some pasta and garlic, cooked (total for this: 600 kcal)

21H00 - alpro soy soft caramel (102 kcal)

22H30 - a banana (80 kcal)

Total: approx. 1700 kcal (bad, but still below 2000 kcal and nothing that bad... right? )

A bit of a reading from Spark Reflections:

We keep hearing about how persistence is often the key to success. But what do you do when you've been striving for so long that it seems like your goal is never going to see light? How do you deal with the fear that you're about to fail? Simple. Give it just one more shot. And then one more. Think about the sweat and time you've committed already. You've come this far, you'd be unfair to yourself if you quit without a fight. Even if the odds are way out of your favor and you can't see how it can possibly help, reach out and take one last swing. You never know what will happen. Big, meaningful achievements don't just happen when everything goes your way. How many times have you seen tennis players make miraculous winning shots while lunging for a ball that seemed impossible to reach? Sometimes, you can find victory in the effort.

Thanks for your note. FYI: Sorry, but I don't care about brussel sprouts' hidden powers. You still can't get me to eat them. :(

geevee on 05/07/2010:
All my sons and Billy's teens LOVE brussel sprouts! I don't know of any other children who will eat them. They're related to brocc oli and cauliflower which they also eat all the time. I don't know of any vegetable that any of us don't like.

mskitty on 05/07/2010:
They say if you have a big breakfast with protein in the morning your less likely to make bad choices later. You should check out a documentary called 10 Things You Should Know About Losing Weight. It was a good watch. I have a link to the free streaming of it in my diary with a review from a day ago. Anyways it made some powerful statements about why we should eat within 2 hours of waking with scientific backing as to why it helps people on a diet.

nita51 on 05/07/2010:
Hi sis, I like the reading you posted from spark reflections. Hope you're doing well. Hugs!

CoverGirl on 05/07/2010:
So whats this cleansing thing?

Horn_Of_Plenty on 05/07/2010:
1700 is a fine amount for you. at your weight, do not eat as low as 1500 or anything, you don't need to. you will still lose weight if you eat 2,000 which is a good thing. being too limiting you won't get all your nutrients.

geevee on 05/08/2010:
My Orlando son majored in business and did some consulting work but eventually realized it wasn't for him. He took a 5yr. detour teaching English in China and Japan for 5 yrs., came back to Orlando and started taking baking courses at the community college. His interest in baking is strictly personal. He's constantly improvising and experimenting. It's something he really enjoys doing.

He got interesting in bread when he got a job at Panera, a popular restaurant that has fabulous bread. Then, he left there and has been working at a big super market chain as a bread baker. He just found out he can buy that expensive flour at his store at wholesale price, something like $12 for 40 lbs. That was good news for him, encouraging him to continue baking on a daily basis at home. That's why he's constantly plying me with bagels, bread, pizza, anything from dough. The best part is he does it so well!

Good morning!

Today's a sunny day... I walked to work instead of the dark, loud and smelly underground... It was good. My friends left today morning, so I'm alone with the cats til Saturday. Cool, isn't it.... For my health it is, because I don't have any more bread in the house, and I really shouldn't eat bread everyday. Even if it's whole grain, the only thing I eat. I have to behave and choose other things instead.

Today's menu:

07H00 - a cup of milk with coffee substitute and cereals (250 kcal)

09H30 - a pear and tea (80 kcal)

11H00 - a plain 0F/0S yogurt (50 kcal)

12H45 - green peas (the same as yesterday) 300 kcal, a 100% vegetal alpro soy soft caramel dessert (102 kcal)

14H30 - coffee w/ skimmed milk (40 kcal)

17H00 - a toast (60 kcal) with a LF LC cheese (25 kcal)

21H20 - veggie soup (300 kcal), an almond covered with sugarfree choc (30 kcal)

Grand Total: approx. 1300 kcal

TomorrowComputed Tomography. So, I cannot eat and drink anything between 9 and 14h. GREAT.

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!

Just42day on 05/05/2010:

RE: Talking with dad ~ He is an awesome dad...My mom is in the midst of deline with dimentia/alzheimers and tells him what she wants, doesn't want, etc right now and everything a struggle when time to do something... I think yesterday was a good indication that he "gets" that I'm back at what I started in 2008.... I just didn't/don't want to add to his way of doing things for others too much right now...He does so much already and without a gripe at all... Our time together is precious and enjoyable to make the best of what we are going through....

Have a wonderful day!

good job on walking to work!! Foods look great too!

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that commemorates Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. This date is observed in the USA as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In other words, a lot of people here use this day as an excuse to party, stuff themselves with Mexican foods, and drink lots of margarita and Mexican beer (me included!). I make a really good margarita but Im skipping out on it this year, since it isnt diet friendly at all!

RE: water reminder on PC. That's a great idea. Rather than a separate application, if you have Outlook as the email, you could set up a water "appointment" reminder every 30 minutes and it'll popup on your PC screen.

Today's menu:

06H15 - LF milk with cereals (200 kcal)

07H00 - two almonds covered with sugar-free chockies (the same I still have from Easter, 115 kcal/4 pcs) (60 kcal) as I am VERY LONELY. I have friends here, but... wish I wouldn't. This is funny but I miss my man, and I'm not in the mood to socialize without him... I have to sleep on a very uncomfy couch, with at least two cats on the top of me (I'm on their legitimate sleeping place, so I'm an intruder... ) I miss my man and my comfort and I miss making noises whenever I want to. Now it's 6AM, I had to work a bit, and I have to be careful with those two sleeping in our bedroom on our very big, very comfy bed...

09H30 - a cookie (30 kcal)

11H00 - 1 Actimel (0% fat, 28 kcal), 1 apple (80 kcal), tea

12H30 - green peas, cooked on some olive oil and onions with paprika (300 kcal)

16H30 - toast (60 kcal) w/ a LF LC cheese (25 kcal)

20H30 (w/ friends) - the same as yesterday (500 kcal)

Grand Total: 1000 kcal

I liked to read the iVillage newsletter (Conquer Your Cravings) today:

Why You Should Eat (Not Drink) Juice

If you're craving something sweet and juicy, your first thought may be to satisfy yourself with a glass of juice. Wrong! Not only is juice high in calories, but it also lacks the fiber found in whole fruit that will help fill you up.

What should you drink instead? Fruit! Of course, you'll be eating the fruit, but it's water-based, which will help quench your thirst. Plus, it has vitamins, nutrients and fiber that will keep you feeling fuller longer.

If you just won't be satisfied until you have that juice, make sure it's a lighter or low-sugar version, or drink a smaller amount than normal and dilute it with water. Just remember that drinking juice is basically empty calories—you're better off eating that orange along with a nice, calorie-free glass of water.

Hello everyone!

I have my CT (computed tomography) booked for Thursday. I'm cool... Still. Then comes the specialist.... I have to treat this, I have to get an answer til June, because the next year's tennis class subscription is in June... I need to know if I will be forced to leave my favourite sport or not... And I'm thinking about hidrogymnastics... Besides of tennis, of course. That would give me excercise 4 hours a week, besides walking.

Today's menu:

07H45 - LF milk w/ coffee substitute and cereals (250 kcal)

11H00 - an apple (80 kcal) and a natural yogurt (states 28 kcal on the pack)

12H45 - veggie soup with brussels sprouts (350 kcal)

14H30 - pomelo

17H00 - pomelo

20H00 - 2 whole wheat buns toasted with 2 slices of cheese and fresh veggies (garlic, tomatoes, cucumber) (let's say 500 kcal)

Totals: 1300 kcal

And... my friends finished up with my yogurts. GOOD. Now I only have natural yogurts in the kitchen, no aspartame, no sugar!

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!

panda22 on 05/03/2010:
I hope you are able to continue playing tennis! Enjoy your day!

I bet the doc is going to say that since you're not experiencing any problems when you play tennis, to continue.

Hydrogymnastics sounds like a very good idea!

Don't worry!

grumpy on 05/03/2010:
Why, you cant eat shrimp? I buy frozen so I have it at home when i need to fix a quick meal. you're doing amazing! keep up. and hydro seems like a great idea!

Today: I'm expecting friends.

09H00 - a slice of WG toast with a LF LC cheese (25 kcal), 2 slices of ham and a raw tomato, cucumber, LF milk (300 kcal)

09H30 - a bit of almond with sugar-free chocolate around (the thing I eat sometimes) 40 kcal

14H00 - slices of pork tenderloin from the oven, with salad (lettuce, tomatoes, onions in olive oil and vinagre) - let's say, 600 kcal with the horrible ball of ice-cream I got after (it tasted sugar and water, it should have been strawberry sorbet... BLAGH!!!)

15H30 - a yogurt (It's pure pleasure, it's a very good yogurt indeed but I have to stop eating these.. 60 kcal)

18H00 - 3 non-sugar, WW cookies (70 kcal)

22H00 (BAD!!!) - grilled chicken with cucumbers (yeah, eating w/ friends... let's say 600 kcal)

Grand Total: 1600 kcal

Yes, about the yogurts I eat: here in Portugal there are several LIGHT yogurts, stating 0% added sugar, 0% fat. They are very low kcal (normally a bottle of 180gr has like 60-80 kcal, or a cup has 40-60 kcal) BUT BUT BUT... they have: aspartam. ENEMY. I suspect that my headaches are because of this aspartam, as I eat moderately but every day I eat one or two yogurts. So I'm looking forward to end up with the stock I have, and from then on, I'll eat only 0% fat, 0% sugar, NO ASPARTAM, NOTHING but plain yogurts. They are good, also and they do good.

Progress as of today: 51.3 lbs lost so far, only 44.8 lbs to go!
