For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever beliveth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Good afternoon to you! Hope you're having a blessed day!

Yesterday, Hubby and I grilled out hamburgers on the back deck after he got home from work....The weather was sunny and warm, around 70 degrees fahrenheit, and they turned out soooooo YUMMY!!! I only had one bun and made mine a double hamburger! I fixed some slaw with cabbage and reduced fat mayo and baked Hubby some 'french fried potatoes'...and it was all so delicious! I find that food grilled out tastes so much better than food roasted or baked in the oven!

Well...soon it will be time to go to church for our weekly praise team practice (I play the piano)...We are to practice 2 weeks worth tonight...about 25 or more songs....

Hope you have a good night and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)

One of my biggest regrets in life is not having paid attention when I was taking piano lessons. I would love to be able to play now. Have a good rehearsal. Cynthia

I am so jealous that you're able to grill outside. We're having a snowstorm here today! I completely agree with you about grilled food, there's something about a burger or steak or basically anything cooked on a grill that sets it apart! I hope you're enjoying your evening, and I will look forward to the time when we'll be able to use our snow covered grill :)

Good evening to you! I'm late today making this entry, but thought I would, anyway! Hope you've had a nice day! It was beautiful and sunny again here in South Carolina, even got up to 69 degrees fahrenheit! Short-sleeve weather again! I picked up my Mom and took her to a flea market and also got her a cone of ice cream. Then I brought her over here a while and she took a long (3 hours) nap on the sofa while I got some study done concerning the Sunday School class (but not the lesson, I already had that prepared for tomorrow morning). We have an outstanding Sunday School class...We have a free breakfast every Sunday morning and we eat whatever breakfast is (usually biscuits, sweets, etc.) and drink coffee, sodas, etc while we have a 'discussion-type' Sunday School lesson as we all sit around 3 long tables put together. It is fun and we all learn a lot. I am the Sunday School teacher and Hubby is assistant and we love teaching! Everybody is welcome to comment and those who preferr to be quiet are not pressured to if they don't want to comment, but usually everyone has something to say pertaining to our lesson as we go along. If you don't go or belong to a Sunday School class, I strongly urge you to find one that teaches the Bible and salvation through Jesus Christ and and go cause you're missing out big-time! You will love it!

geevee on 03/04/2005:
Hi Maria,

Thanks for your comment. I'm a shortie at 5'2". My BMI measured with calipers at my fitness club was 17. Using the formula on the web, it was something like 21, maybe 22, but according to Biscotti, the measurement with calipers is more accurate.

Well, you sure have done well! That's quite an achievement to have lost so much weight and kept it off. That's the only thing that has kept me going and not totally discouraged.

I had heard about leek soup but had never tried it until I saw some at the "rick hadies' store" - 3 big, beautiful fresh leeks for $3, so I thought I'd go for it. I couldn't believe how tasty it is! You don't need any seasoning at all, including salt. Leeks look like giant scallions. I made it again today using 2 medium potatoes and one leek with 4-5 cups of water. Cut the leeks crosswise in half inch cuts. Go a couple of inches into the dark green part and stop when the leaves are too rough and tough. You only need to cook it 15-20 min. Then, your choice is to have it like it is, which is delicious or put it in a blender. Then I add a couple of dollops of either NF sour cream or NF yogurt. They both work. What I did today was have half blended and the other half "as is" with the pieces of leek and potatoes. It's so nutritious and lo cal.

The next item on my agenda to try is BElgian endive. Cost ($3.99lb.) is the only reason I haven't tried it. I suppose I'm waiting in vain for a sale because I don't remember ever seeing it on sale, but who knows. I might end up paying full price. If it's as good as it's said to be, then it would be worth it.

Hello to you!

It is sunny and cool here in S.C. today.

I was thinking about something I want to share with you: I've heard people complain about how difficult it is to lose weight. Well, it's not. That's a myth. It's actually very easy to lose weight and it is WORK to gain weight.

What? you might say. Here's the reason why:

To gain weight, you have to go find the food you want, either to the grocery store, or the refrigerator in most cases, but there are some people who don't have it that easy and they have to actually go hunt their food and either kill it if it is an animal or fish or dig it up or pull it if it is a vegetable or fruit, etc. You may say, I don't have to do that, mine's in the kitchen. Okay...you still had to 'find' it (at a store) and you also had to PAY for it right??? (Which usually means you, or someone else worked to pay for it, right?)...So...you get it home and next you've got to PREPARE it to eat (unless it's already prepared) and that is work. Finally, you have to EAT IT. More work...you have to feed yourself. So...you see, it requires WORK to gain weight! Now let's look at losing weight. You really don't have to do ANYTHING to lose weight. Just don't eat. You don't even have to exercise to lose weight. There is NO WORK required in losing weight but there is a LOT OF WORK required to gain weight. I do want to add, that the way I wrote the latter is extreme, for we all most eat to live, but we don't have to live to eat. Right?

Today's stats:

BMI: 22.8

Height: 5'8"

Weight: 150.0

Today's menu: This is a low-carb menu and not a maintain menu (about 1700 calories are maintain for my weight). I sometimes do low-carb a day or two, then back to regular diet with carbs. (Note: I may or may not eat all of this, as I'm 'banking calories' for buffet eating with Hubby tomorrow, Lord willing.)

Breakfast: 1 cup coffee with 1 teaspoon fatfree creamer and 1 small packet of splenda, 1 egg cooked in a light coating of vegetable spray, 1 plain diet wheat bread toast. Total:200 calories.

Snack: 1 cup sugar-free jello topped with 5 tablespoons fatfree cool-whip and 1 glass of tea sweetened with splenda. Total: 95 calories.

Lunch: 2 roasted, no skin chicken thighs, 1 cup microwaved plain okra, no sodium, and 1 glass tea sweetened with splenda. Total: 450 calories.

Snack: 1 cup of sugarfree jello topped with 5 tablespoons fatfree coolwhip and 1 glass tea sweetened with splenda. Total: 95 calories.

Supper (some call it dinner): 2 pieces of baked whiting fish (they're large and only 100 calories each, very filling), 1 cup baked okra (plain), 1 cup slaw (made with cabbage and 1 tablespoon lowfat mayo), and 1 glass tea sweetened with splenda. Total: 350 calories.

Snack: 1 mug coffee with 1 teaspoon fatfree creamer and sweetened with splenda. Total: 10 calories.

Total: 1200 calories.

Have a great day and remember..Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)

Thank you for your kind comments. I usually don't discuss my religious beliefs, but my faith was tested when my mother died. It's a long story. I still believe in God and that he has a plan for my life. I have never truly been able to turn my life over to God since that time. Thank you for thinking of me though.

That's a really interesting way to look at weight loss! I enjoyed the fresh perspective. However, I think exercise plays a part in the equation, and that is often viewed as "work" by a lot of people! (except me...I love to exercise!) :)

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die... John 11:25, 26

Hello to you all!

It has been like springtime here in South Carolina today! It was actually warm enough for short sleeves and that's what I wore!

I've noticed something....when I eat something high in sodium, the next day the scale is up...I guess it's water weight from the salt. It's a good thing to read the labels on what we eat that's not prepared at home, though, so we'll not be discouraged when this happens and realize that when the salt (water retention) leaves, which is usually only a day or two, the scale will reflect the 'true' number we weigh. Even measurments are affected by eating something high in sodium...your waist may be 1/2 inch larger or more the next day...so remember this so you won't be discouraged.

I bought a roasted chicken today instead of just buying a chicken and roasting it at home and was told it was "plain" with "nothing on it"...but when I got it home and ate some, it tasted salty and like it had some sort of sauce it had been basted with...sure enough...I found the ingredients on the wrapper in very small writing...'CORN SYRUP' and other ingredients, including a number that reflected HIGH SODIUM...so much for nothing being added to the "plain" roasted chicken....hum...I'll know better next time...just go ahead and buy a raw chicken and roast it at home...that way I'll know it's really "plain" and low sodium!

I've been doing a lot of 'running' (traveling kind) lately and haven't been exercising...this is a no-no, I know.

Springtime is just around the corner...time to get to work!

Have a good evening and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)

YOur so right about the salt, I have noticed the same thing. I did so well yesterday but the scale was reading 2 lbs over the usual and I think it's because I ate F/F chips. There is still a lot of salt in it so it was probablly not a great choice so I have learned my lesson and will have something different next time. Your doing awesome, keep up the good work!

Hello to you all!

I was thinking about something. Something to help motivate us all to get to our goals.

When that craving comes (and it will) and you've already consumed the amount of calories you've alloted yourself for the day, ask yourself: Do I choose to be a size 8 (or other size you like) and NOT eat this that I crave right now as it will put me over my alloted daily calories to get to (or maintain) the size I want to be (or am)....OR.... do I choose to be a size 12 (or other larger size) and overeat and enjoy the sensation of this food for a few minutes only to be heavier (and larger) tomorrow?

Because when we overeat, we WEAR what we overeat. I've noticed there are people who look like they are wearing what they overate last year!

I used to be a heavy person....I'd get a BOX of sugar smacks and eat them...I mean a very large box...and ice cream by the box, too... but I've learned that even these foods are okay in MODERATION...which means counting them in among our alloted daily calories...a 150 calorie ice cream is okay if it is not in ADDITION but is INCLUDED in our daily calorie counts.

I've learned that exercise speeds up metabolism, but too much will surely cause the scale NOT to move downward! Exercise is good, but in moderation, just like foods!

I sit here in a SNUG size 8 100% cotton levi jeans (not stretch kind) and I'm still working on fitting into them comfortably because I am modest and will not wear them snug-fitting. I am a LADY and I want to look it, too...so I will continue to work on fitting into these 8's not snugly, but comfortably and loose enough to look lady-like when I wear them...which requires saying NO!!! to the ice cream I CRAVE tonight!!! It means EXERCISE tomorrow (but don't overdo it)! Now, I could have had the ice cream I crave tonight, as it's only 150 calories, but I will have overeaten cause I've already consumed my alloted calories for today...then the scale would probably be up in the morning and these size 8 jeans would be fitting tighter instead of looser! Well, you may say, have the ice cream and do without 150 calories tomorrow...nope...that will just make it harder to get to 'goal' of fitting into these 8's comfortably....so...I hope I've said something that has helped someone.

I drew a picture and have it on my desk. There is a pair of size 8 levi jeans (not stretch kind) on one side of the picture and then the word 'OR' and then there is a picture of a bigger pair of levi jeans, size 12 on the other side and I also drew ice cream, potato chips, candy, etc on the other side with the larger jeans and with the 8's I wrote 1700 daily calories of lean meats, veggies, salads, fruits, and occassional sweets, etc. included in the calories allotted. The 1700 is a maintain number...I know that most of us have to go lower than that to get 'to' goal.

Have a good night and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)
