(Maintaining Goalweight)
Weight: 153.5

High weight 1998: 205

Goalweight reached within a year: 150

Today's Weight: 153.5 Height: 5'8"

Doing Maintenance. Still working out at the gym three times a week.

Hi, everybody!

Hope you're all having a blessed day today!

I've been out, doing chores again. Just got in a little while ago.

It's a pretty day, warm and sunny, here in South Carolina.

Hubby and I grilled out barbequed chicken on the back deck yesterday afternoon when he got in from work. I fixed baked 'french fries' and also sweet peas to go with it. It was good and the chicken was so tender. We love to grill out.

Well, Mother's Day is coming up...got any plans? Hubby and I plan to be in church, as we usually do and enjoy being with other Christian believers as we worship the Lord together. Hubby and I teach an adult Sunday School class together and also I play the piano and sing. We love going to church and I encourage each of you to make plans to go, if you don't already, to a church that teaches about salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ and stands on God's Holy Word, the Bible.

Well, hope you have a good afternoon...remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (SMILE!!!)

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Hello everybody! It's a beautiful day here in South Carolina, USA! Sunny and warm. How's everything your way?

I've been doing chores today, out buying groceries, etc.

I've also been cleaning some.

It's really a day that seems to be calling me to lay out on the back deck in the lounge chair and just enjoy God's creation, listening to the birds singing and watching the squirrels run about.

While grocery shopping, I bought a couple of steaks to grill out when Hubby gets home this afternoon.

I am so blessed. I have a wonderful husband.

Church is tonight.

Hope you're all having a blessed day.

I'm still doing maintenance.

High weight 1998: 205

Goalweight reached within a year after that: 150

Thought for today: You CAN have your cake and eat it, too! If you crave popcorn, select the low-fat kind...a bag is only 250 calories and very filling. If you crave chocolate, select a low-calorie bar. Enjoy! This way you don't feel deprived and remember...if your calories allowed each day are too low, your metabolism may get lower, too, so ENJOY!

Have a nice day and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)

Do we put more importance on what we feed our bodies than on what we feed our minds? This is the question of the day. Today is a new beginning. God creates all things new. He prepared this day just for you...air to breathe, food to eat (in moderation) and His Word to read. Begin the day with prayer. Talk to God as you would your best friend...because, after all, He created you and He IS your best friend. Those who seek Him shall find Him. Seek and ye shall find. He cares about you.

When the urge to overeat comes (and it will), instead of reaching for food, reach for the REAL food, reach for the Bible and open it up and see what the Lord has for you to learn about today. Today can be your new beginning in reading God's Word and learning about His will for your life (if you haven't already begun).

Invite Jesus into your life today. A simple, sincere prayer will do..just tell him you are sorry for your sins (and sincerely mean it) and ask His forgiveness, acknowledging that you know He took your place on the cross and shed His blood and gave His life for yours so that you could have the gift of eternal life and salvation and ask Him to be your Lord and Saviour today!

Remember...Jesus loves you and so do I! Love, Maria

Note: If someone comes to your house hysterical and you can't get them to calm down, and you're getting stressed out, 1st put on a pot of coffee and when you open your can (bag, etc) of coffee, take a deep breath of the aroma and imagine you're on a mountain where that wonderful scent of coffee is grown, then 2nd, take the person by the hand and pray for them, asking for God's help for them.

Currently maintaining goal weight. (Achieved 5 years, 3 months ago)

Hey South Carolina Girlfriend!

Your opening was calming and refreshing. Calming down and focusing on God doesn't immediately solve problems or take all of one's burdens away but, it certainly does provide you with a renewed mind to "deal" with and accept God's will for our lives. It's also good to have someone you can go to and share those burdens with.

Congratulations to you on MAINTAINING!!!! That has got to be the greater challenge of altering one's lifestyle. I know you must have had God's help along the way. I hear it in your expressions!!!! Honey, pray I can do what I OUGHT TO DO to be what I ought to be!!!! Love you Missy!!! Cynthia

Howdy, everybody! Those of you still up tonight, that is!

Hope you've all had a great day! (And it is if it starts with the Lord! Pray to Him every day and night and off/on during the day!)

Today was a nice day here in S.C....I went to the gym and walked and did some other exercises and later I walked some more and did some more exercises. The latter was CHORES that I did for my Mother, laundering her clothes, etc. So that was today concerning exercises, about 2 hours worth.

As for eating, I had a large salad for brunch, banana for afternoon snack and some fat-free candy (oops!) and for supper a small piece of roasted steak with onions, squash and potatoes and a few cookies (oops!) and small piece of 7 layer chocolate cake (oops!) for desert. (I love sweets!) BUT I didn't have my usual afternoon bag of 94% fatfree popcorn, thus saving 250 calories there! So how'd I do??? Total cals for today: about 1600 calories. Total exercise: About 2 hours.

Have a good night! Remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I! Love, Maria (SMILE!)

Good evening, everyone! It is Saturday night here in South Carolina and it has been a SUNNY, WARM day here...Hubby and I grilled out barbequed chicken and corn on the cob on the back deck when he got home from work. I also fixed some 'french fries' for him, but they were not fried cause I peeled some potatoes and made them into strips and put them onto a baking pan and drizzled about 1 tablespoon of oil over them and salted them and baked them on low and they came out soft with a little crispy outside, just like they'd been fried but very much tastier (cause they were not grease-soaked) and healthier, too. I also fixed some green string beans to go with all this and we each had a little piece of watermelon for desert.

I went to a flea market sale this morning and found some good deals...stationary for 25 cents...A prayer journal book with poems by Helen Steiner Rice and Bible scriptures on each page for 25 cents and some cute stickers, 2 sheets for 25 cents.

I made a strawberry smoothie today and it was pretty good (just ice that was converted into powder form via the blender and a few strawberries)...I ate it using a spoon while laying out on the deck in the lounge chair...it was sort of like a snowcone.

What have you been doing today????

Balance? Some may ask what is this 'balance' that I have for the 'current diet'...Balance is maintaining.... balance is not overdoing carbs OR protein, but allowing some of each...it is sometimes overdoing daily allowed calories, but making up for it other days...it is not overdoing sweets, but allowing them in daily diet within reason if they are at least semi-nutritional...that is balance...it is also adding in a little extra exercise and bringing back into BALANCE the weight the scale says if it needs be. So that is the current diet. As for exercise, that goes with balance. I don't go to the gym EVERY day, but I go as often as I can and when I don't, I try to make up for it by getting extra walking done that day. This is what helps me to wear size 10 jeans, down from size 22 jeans in January of 1998.

Hope each of you has a good night tonight...remember...get up early and go to church where the Bible is taught tomorrow morning...where it is taught that Jesus Christ ALONE is our Saviour and the only way to be saved, cause this is the truth.

Remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I! Love, Maria (SMILE)

It is actually right after midnite that I am writing this, but at least this will give me an entry for the day, right? I also wrote an entry a few hours ago if anyone wants to read it.

I hope each of you have a wonderful day today...remember...a little exercise is better than none...and fruit is better than sweets for you but we women DO have to have our chocolate sometimes, right? Remember to take time to pray to the Lord Jesus and thank Him for the day and creating you to be alive to enjoy this day today. Thank Him for saving your soul (if you've repented of your sins and asked His forgiveness and made Him Lord of your life) and then...REJOICE! For this is the day that the Lord has made...we will rejoice and be glad in it!

Take time to smell the roses! Okay..if they're not in bloom yet, (and mine aren't), take time to smell the coffee! Don't like coffee? Got any scented candles? (hehe!) You know what I mean! A lot of people RACE through life, not taking the time to enjoy life. Life is a precious gift from God. Eternal life through Jesus Christ is a precious gift from God also. He is the ONLY way (Jesus) to be saved...to have eternal life.

I hope you have a very special, blessed day today...remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (SMILE!....and mean it!)

Hi, Everybody!

High Weight: 205 (January 1998) Goal Weight: 150 (Attained within one year after January 1998) Today's Weight: 153.0 (Doing Maintenance)

It has been a rainy day here in South Carolina. The azaleas surrounding our house are all awakening in brilliant colors of red and varying shades of pink. I saw some beautiful hydrogeas (mispelled) in the store the other day, blue ones and pink ones that I'm thinking about getting to set out...also a flower show is coming up this weekend at our local farmers market.

I bought my Mother some colorful tulips in a pot for her Easter gift and a pretty card. The tulips were yellow, red, and orange. She is doing better now, recouperating from a fractured hip and surgery for it. She is able to walk on her own with her walker. I am so happy for her and today she told me when I went to visit her after going by the store to get her some things she needed that she had actually walked a few steps without her walker! Thank you, Jesus, and thank you, fellow Christians for praying for my Mother's healing! May the Lord bless you!

So, I'm having some extra time to do needed (and un-needed) things around home here, since she has become more mobile, but I am still going over to her place a lot, back and forth, checking on her and making sure she has what she needs and I even coaxed her the other day to try to walk with her walker to the car outside and she managed to get in without my lifting her or helping her in, and away we went to a drive through restuarant and we parked in the parking lot of it and had lunch together, her first 'outing' since arriving home March 31st.

I've been 'busy as a bee' today, doing housecleaning and washing clothes, etc, and seeing about her, also. I even rearranged the dining room and am now keying on a desk by the dining room window, hehe! I had to turn the long dining room table (heavy) to the total opposite direction in order to fit this little desk (which also serves as a food counter when dining with friends) by the window (which is in front of our house and I can see all traffic, etc. going by as I key in the daytime).

The weird thing is I was just given the other day, a very nice, large computer desk, which was put (toted by 2 very strong people) into the music/gym room and I've had no motivation to get set up in there...I think it's cause I want to be able to look out one of the front windows as I key in the daytime.

Yes, I'm maintaining (albeit up a little) but I've learned a few things in the past 5 years since reaching goal. Don't be obsessive about the scale but be 'mindful' (which means a much lighter regard for a number)...Do get in exercise, even if only a little can be managed at times, cause it does help....Do measure yourself with a tape measure and keep tabs on that every week or two...Do not deprive yourself, it can send you into a binge (if you want popcorn, have a whole bag of the 94% fatfree, only about 250-300 calories and high fiber...or if you want a candy bar, have one, with nuts...or if you want bread, have bread with a low glycemic salad or meat or both and low carb veggies all at the same meal to lower the glucose count...)...Do NOT expect perfection or you may become obsessive-compulsive about dieting which can lead to eating disorders... Do go by how you FEEL at a certain weight/size before deciding to do maintenance at that weight/size (I actually went lower than my goalweight and found that I did not feel good at the lower weight/size...what's the use of being a size 6 and weighing 132 and feeling MISERABLE???? So, DO use COMMON SENSE. Try to eat lowfat, high fiber when possible, not overdoing meats or underdoing veggies and fruits. Breads and starches should be done in moderation but not eliminated...and when possible, eat whole grain breads, though I know none of us do the 'ideal?' at all times when it comes to eating what is best for us.

Well, I guess this is enough for tonight...not that I'm expecting many, if any to read this...so have a good night and remember...... Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (smile!)

Good to hear from you here at the DD, Maria! It sounds like life is being good to you. I like the way you said "don't be obsessive about the scale, just be "mindful". That's just what I try to do now. I hope you have a good week.
