For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Good morning everyone! It is a sunny, cool (50's fahrenheit) day here in South Carlina. How's the weather your way???

Still going to the gym and working out there or doing the treadmill and weights here at home a few times a week. It will be a lot more fun when spring arrives and Hubby and I can go walking in our neighborhood again regularly....stopping by and chatting with neighbors along the way sometimes, who are outside their homes.

I made a big pot of chicken-vegetable soup the other day...it's almost gone now...chicken, onions, baby carrots, okra, celery, and tomatoes and salt to taste...it was good. I like to eat soup in the wintertime...also in the summertime, too, with cornbread and iced tea.

Hope each of you have a nice day and remember...Jesus loves ya, and I do, too!

Love, Maria (Give someone a smile today!)

Hi Maria!! I just love seeing your entries here! Weather you ask? OH BOY, you don't want to know lol. Here is Wisc I just shoveled TWO day's in a row and face froze just about OFF. Very scarey lol. I sure envy your 50 degrees and I would be out walking in shorts lol. Not really, but us wisconsinites do that sometimes, it must be the cold that freezes some of our brain cells?

So other then that...You are doing so great, and it's great to see your hanging in there and doing such a wonderful job with the exercise! Have a great day!

Hello everybody! How's the weather your way??? It's 61 degrees fahrenheit here in South Carolina and SUNNY!

I had to PIN my skirt on this morning that went to a suit I wore to church. Earlier this year it fit snugly...not so now...too loose to wear without taking in about 4 inches or so with a safety pin!

I'm glad I can now wear some things that have been in the closet that I couldn't wear a while back. It's like having new clothes all over again, although they're not new. Ever feel that way?

I've been a little lazy on working out this past week, but plan to get back to the gym beginning tomorrow and onto the treadmill TODAY.

Hope you all had a good Christmas holiday and hope you're all still having happy holidays.

Remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (SMILE!)

Soon2BThin on 12/28/2003:
Just reading about how you had to pin your skirt really makes me want to try harder!! I know I can get down to 148 too and it was such a nice feeling, I did it before, but why am I wasting time now?! Thanks for your little story about the skirt, it really gives me inspiration.

You ask why vegetarian? My husband and I were always intrigued by vegetarians (their motivation, determination and commitment). We did some investigating into the lifestyle and was recommended to read a book called Diet for a New America by John Robbins. Well, that book did it. You read that book and it's highly unlikely you'll ever eat anything with a face again. We are really enjoying the lifestyle and are proud to be a part of it. Our daughter (now 15 years old) has joined us on her own will and has been a strict vegetarian for almost two years now). My son who is 7 years old has not quite made it with us yet, but we'll leave it up to him. We never buy meat, poultry or fish so he's sort of a vegetarian by default but occasional school lunches, trips to McDonalds and overnight visits with the grandparents always bring him some chicken nuggets or something like that. He'll decide if he's into at some point. Anyway, I hope I answered your question. If you'd like to know more about it, just let me know.

Hello to you!

Hope you're doing fantastic!

I've been walking a lot and working out at the gym...and seeing results! Currently wearing size 10's comfortably and also some 8's comfortably, with room to spare! Also 'yardsale size 10 black leather jeans' that I bought weeks ago (like new) but couldn't wear then now fit comfortably! I was very surprised this morning when I decided to try them on, not expecting them to fit and they fit comfortably! I'm 5'8" tall, so this is a good size and weight for me...though I still recall the doctor telling me my best weight for my height is 140....but he also said anything between 126 and 154 is okay for my height (14 pounds either side of optimum 140). The other day I walked almost 3 1/2 miles. No, I don't do this every day! (smile!) I LOVE to work out with weights at the gym...it makes you feel SO GOOD! Try it! So, I'm down to 148....My highest weight was 205, size 20 - 22. I got down to my goal of 150 and struggled to maintain it for years until I decided to go for lower and eventually, I got down to 132...this was NOT a good weight for me...I didn't feel good at that weight...so I regained some weight and got into the habit of eating carelessly as I regained (cause you CAN eat and be full and NOT gain, eating healthy foods)...so here I am back again. As for this holiday season, I'm just trying to make wise choices and limit calories and continue working out.

Here is a repeat of a Christmas poem I made up a while back...since this is Christmas Eve night: T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house,........... I wandered in search of another chocolate mouse....................... I found half of a fruitcake and a frozen snicker bar.................. Good enough for me and I didn't have to travel far....................

I sat in front of the tv, eating potato chips......................... Fruitcake and pumpkin pie and chocolate cookies and dips.......... While watching Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph and other cartoons...... I glance out the window and think I see the man in the moon...........

About that moment I hear on the roof,................................ A squirrel running across the house, noisily, not aloof!.............. Since I've no kids at home, I sit up late............................. Eating more bun-buns and ice cream I put on my plate..................

My Hubby is in bed sleeping and snoring,.............................. While from sugar overload I'm soaring................................. Turn the channel to HSN or QVC........................................ And keep the credit cards away from me!...............................

I think I'm still size 10 and order leather jeans!~................... With a medium size leather jacket to match, you know what I mean?.....

I continue to overeat the whole Christmas season,..................... Into New Year's Day and I'm still feasting............................ Finally my clothes arrive I ordered Christmas Eve..................... I tear open the box and see part of a leather sleeve!.................

Quickly, I begin to try on my new threads............................. But my leather jeans won't pull up and I take them off instead........ Neither will my leather jacket fit,................................... So I put them back into their box and I just sit......................

Thinking of all the bon-bons and chocolate goodies and treats......... I had many of and didn't think of the calories I'd eat................ And now I knew I had work to do....................................... Get on the treadmill and count calories, too!.........................

So this Christmas season...may we all be a little smarter............. Eating less of all the goodies will be a good starter................. And getting to the gym or walking somewhere every day................. So that we'll stay on track and not lose our way!

Well, all of you have a good night and a wonderful Christmas!

Let's remember...Jesus is the reason for the season!

Merry Christmas to you!

Love, Maria

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Good afternoon to you! It is COOOOOLLLLLLDDDDD here in S.C. Cloudy and cold. I've been out shopping for Christmas presents for those who come to our Sunday School class. I found some really nice, big, pretty, holiday coffee mugs (we drink a lot of coffee in our class) and bought them and also a few bags of candy that I filled each mug with and then wrapped each filled mug in a beautiful decorative, colorful, festive, see-through bag, to give them out Sunday week (Sunday before Christmas)...so, they will have some treats to go with their coffees...little miniature Baby Ruths, Tootsie pops, and other candies individually wrapped and also cookies, inside their big coffee mugs. I could have come out a lot cheaper just buying $1 mugs already stuffed with paper and a few hard candies on top.....but does anyone ever REALLY eat those candies???

Well, I'm back into the 140's.

We had a WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL church Christmas Banquet Party last night and we all had a GREAT time and I made very wise choices and limited how much I ate. (I'd also worked out yesterday with weights and walking on the treadmill.) The food was superbly cooked by a chef, and though I don't usually, I had a salad first with VERY LITTLE thousand island type dressing and it was so good, it was lettuce, little tomatoes, slices of cucumber ad cheese on top...yummm...then for main course, I had 1/2 fried chicken breast, about a cup of long green string beans, a bite or two of a small yeast roll, one bite of a piece of potato, and for desert, I had 1/2 piece of apple stroudel (I guess that's what it was, and it had caramel in it...YUM!) and a small dollop of cool whip with caramel over it, which went with the pie, and caffeine-free diet pepsi to drink and I still got into the 140's today! I'd been very careful yesterday to not go over 500 calories before the party last night. There were Christmas songs we all sang, oh it was such a wonderful, happy time! And my mother even went with Hubby and me and she enjoyed it, too!

Well, gotta go...Hubby will be home soon. Have a wonderful evening and remember...Jesus loves ya and I do, too! JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

Good evening, everyone! I'm late getting on here, but thought I'd say hello! It has been a gorgeous, sunny, cool to cold day here in South Carolina.

Right now, Hubby and I are watching Yogi Bear cartoons on t.v., sitting side by side in our lounge chairs, me with the laptop on my lap. The to-the-ceiling Christmas tree is lit up and revolving round and round. We had the fire in the fireplace going, but it got a little too warm, so we turned it down (gas).

Have you got all your Christmas shopping done yet? We don't!

Well, this is all for now...think I'll go read entries for a while. Have a good night and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria

Hello, everybody! Hope you're all doing well. It is COLLLLLDDDDDD!!! here in South Carolina today. 30's and 40's cold, with wind chills even lower. Also very cloudy.

Well, the homemade low carb chicken soup is doing its thing, comparing today to yesterday. I had another bowl of it at lunch today. It sure is filling. I wasn't even hungry...but I had had 2 eggs and 2 diet toasts, plain, for breakfast this morning....with coffee. I tried on my 'new' yardsale size 10 black leather jeans this morning and they are becoming easier to zip and fasten, but still not comfortable enough to wear yet....and if they're not comfortable, they don't fit. I think I'm going to go walk a while...

For those of you who didn't see it, here is a repeat of a poem I made up yesterday:

Hello, everybody! Hope you're all doing well.

Okay, I finally put my weight in. I also admit to eating 1/2 of the 6 layer chocolate cake my friend baked and gave to us Thanksgiving. There, I said it. Also 1/2 of the pumpkin pie. I said that, too. It was good. And I have been working...lots of walking and working out and being mindful of calories now that we are into the Christmas season. I have to be...we are having our big annual church Christmas Banquet/Party next week on Friday and I must fit into my size 10 black dress pants, cause there's no others to wear! As I speak, I am cooking a giant pot of homemade chicken soup...Yes, soup...In the pot are chicken (of course), red vadalia and yellow onions, fresh baby carrots, green string beans, celery, salt, pepper, and diced tomatoes. It's looking like more of a chicken stew than a soup, however, but it'll do. I was tempted to bake homemade cornbread, but bread is currently being limited. Also, rice, but it is also being limited, being a starch.

I have a poem for you:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Hello, everybody! I hope you are all having a wonderful day in the Lord today!

Well, how did you do on your Thanksgiving Day eating???? I hope better than I did! I failed! Hehehe! Yum, yum!

My friend baked a 6 layer chocolate cake and gave it to us. Yes, I had some of it. It was delicious! I also had some pumpkin pie. Yum! I'm up 2 pounds from Thanksgiving eating, but I'm back on track again. I'm still in the low 150's and still working out, walking, weights, etc, a few times a week.

Guess what? I tried on a couple of pairs of my old, (but they don't look it) size 10 levi jeans this morning and THEY FIT!!! Comfortably! (Cause it doesn't count if you can't 'comfortably' wear them!) I was surprised about that. BUT....my 'new' yardsale black leather size 10 jeans do NOT fit...they are too tight to be comfortable in, though can zip and fasten them. So, they are 'out' for now.

I asked my Hubby to please carry the rest of the 6 layer chocolate cake with him to work this morning, so he did (only about a quarter of it was left after we had company Thanksgiving night). I didn't want to be tempted with it today because I KNEW I'd finish it!

I've done pretty well with calories today, but I DID allow a medium sized 280 calorie snicker bar earlier. I just now had sugar free jello with fat free cool whip. Lunch was a barbequed turkey sandwich, using diet wheat bread at only 40 cals per piece. Breakfast was a mug of coffee and a piece of diet bread with 1 oz. cheese. Snack was another mug of decaf.

Hubby just now got home from work and I took a little break from this to fix him something to eat and he didn't want to eat Thanksgiving leftovers, but I told him I did today, so he let me fix him a plate of them and he is having it for his supper now as I key this.

It is a COLD day here in South Carolina, around 47 degrees fahrenheit a couple of hours ago. It was 37 this morning, with wind chill 27...and it is WINDY! To us southeners, that is VERY COLD!!!! But the sun is shining.

Hubby and I put up the Christmas tree Thanksgiving night. I know it is early, but we felt like it, so we did. Lots of our neighbors have up their Christmas decorations, some even before Thanksgiving! Hehehe! I think the lights are so pretty!

Well, guess this is all for now...I'm going to read some entries. Have a good day and remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Love, Maria (SMILE!)

Soon2BThin on 11/29/2003:
Oh, my, chocolate cake! I know I wouldn't be able to resist that either AND I wouldn't have let anyone take it. The pies we had for Thanksgiving weren't that good so I only had a small piece of the cherry, my favorite. So it sounds like you're still doing well with the diet and exercise. Sorry it's so cold there, got up to 75 here today with beautiful sunshine. Take care.

geevee on 11/29/2003:
Thanks for your comment, Maria. I have two pieces of pie and one of cheesecake in the freezer tempting me.We're neighbors in the 150's. I was in the l40's BRIEFLY for two days BEFORE Thanksgiving. I'm trying to get back with all these delicious leftovers and I'd like to lose four more pounds by Christmas. Maybe one more day and then I'll go back to my serious regimen.

Good evening to you!

I hope you are doing well.

It has been a rainy day here in S.C., with storms expected, but none so far.

I went grocery shopping today. I would put things in the buggy and then turn around a few aisles later and go put them back. I bought Hubby a large container of his favorite ice cream (strawberry/chocolate/vanilla) and also got his favorite most expensive coughdrops instead of cheaper brand (he puts one in his mouth when he goes to bed at night so he can breathe better....menthol)...we also have a vaporizer running at night...which helps put moisture into the air...anyway, I'd gotten him a jar of pickled sausages, but I thought this was too much stuff with fat (he will not eat fatfree ice cream) so I put the sausage back. I also put back a box of 8 snackpacks of chocolate cookies with the white filling in them that I'd gotten for me. I finally put back 2 cans of high sodium soups, too. Then before I got to the checkout counter, I took back the cake mix (chocolate) and icing (chocolate) which I was thinking I might bake for Thanksgiving, but as Hubby and I will probably eat out, I'd be the main one to eat the cake, so it went back onto the shelf. I did buy some english walnuts, though, and a few bananas. Celery was only 50 cents and goes real good with lite pimento cheese, so I got some celery. I also bought onions, fresh squash, and potatoes (because they were reasonably priced at 5 pounds for $1.50), and there were a few stations of free samples, so I tried some dried fruit and nuts and some tiny spicy things that were in cups, but didn't buy any. I got Hubby and me cubed steaks for our supper tonight. I plan to have baked squash with mine, but I know he will want french fried potatoes (but they will be baked). I've begun drinking more water and less diet sodas. So I only got one pack (12) of sodas compared to the usual 3 or 4 I would get.

I was just reading an Australian journal...they are in spring and we are in fall...isn't that amazing!

We are in the peak of fall color here in South Carolina! The trees look like natural Christmas trees! Beautiful!

I need to discipline myself to clean up this study! It's not that bad, just need to put a few things where they belong which is not on this table I use for a desk! And not by the door as you come into this room, either! Clutter! Don't even ask about the closets!

Have a good night!

Remember...Jesus loves ya and so do I!

Good to hear from you, Maria! I'm glad you're doing well. It sounds like you did pretty well with your shopping today. I read several journals from people from Australia and New Zealand and it is amazing that we can communicate with people around the world. Hard to imagine they are having the opposite weather than we are. I hope things continue to go well for you. Keep up the good work.

geevee on 11/20/2003:
Congratulations on your grocery shopping! You were really "thinking thin".

Walnuts and other nuts make good snacks.

One benefit to making my own soup is that I don't have the sodium problem. I've been training my taste buds to like unsalted food, and it's working!
