Just a short note to say I'm doing well.  Even went to the grocery this morning right after working out at cardiac rehab, and I was hungry but didn't buy any "cheat" foods, unless you count the Special K fruit pastry crisps (chocolate), but I only eat them occasionally.  I'm trying to stick with fruit as desserts now and I buy the "No Sugar Added" canned fruits along with the fresh fruits.  I am doing low sugar as I should have been doing all along since I am diabetic (DUH!).  I have heard that blood sugar contributes to heart disease as much as cholesterol does and I don't want to go there ever again!  I'm doing well with my rehab and also do walking and riding my recumbant bike at home so 5 days a week is my goal every week.  Okay, this is a longer short note than what I planned so that's it.  Take care and have a great day!  Oh, and thank you all for all your nice comments.

Progress as of today: 22.8 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

Still going strong and getting better every day!  I did a 20 minute walk this morning plus 15 minutes on the recumbant bike.  It was 60 degrees at 8am when I started out.  Supposed to be 89 for the high today.  I'm not ready for the hot weather yet.  But it's supposed to be only the mid 80's the next few days, not too bad.  I feel pretty good with the new weight but have realized that's what I weighed at the end of my last pregnancy 35 years ago!  But I won't dwell on that, haha!  I started out that pregnancy at 168 and finished up at the same weight so after I delivered, I was 149.  It was like instant weightloss!  Too bad I didn't maintain that for very long.  I would like to make it to 150 now but will be very happy to make it to 160 these days.  Only 3 pounds to my next goal of 165!  I will look beyond that when it happens.  Right now I am just happy to keep it below the 170's.  My weight hasn't been this low in quite awhile and clothes are starting to fit better.  So onward and downward!  Have a great weekend!

Honey - I am 30 lbs heavier than I was at the end of my pregnancy! I so relate! Good plan to be content with each step of the way as long as you are going in the right direction! I think it's more permanent if you adjust to each new lower weight as you go along. The main thing is you are doing healthy things along the way! I love the enhanced clothing choices when I am lighter! I am going to shoot for being able to wear above the knee shorts this year - not capris and walking short lengths - of course I don't want them too short - no sense in scaring everyone in the whole neighborhood! LOL

Things are going well here, so far.  Lost some more weight.  But the important thing is, I'm still doing exercise 5 times a week and now that I have the ultimate incentive, I make myself stick with it.  I had enough of a scare to realize that this will be my life from now on.  It's a matter of life and death, you could say.  Tomorrow will be 10 weeks since my surgery and I'm still not back to 100%.  They say it takes a long time for the damaged nerves in my chest and leg to mend.  I walked for 25 minutes outside today, yesterday I walked for 20 minutes and then did 20 minutes on my recumbant bike.  Also 3 times a week I do a little free weights for my arms.  I don't know how long I will be going for cardiac rehab but I do enjoy it, lots of people in the same boat as me.  I just go on Tuesdays and Thursdays and just started 4 weeks ago.  This week I will miss on Tuesday since I will be going to my first Red Hat Ladies luncheon in several months.  So that is important to me too.  I'll try to make up for that if I'm not too tired when I get home.  Although, we are supposed to get up pretty warm this week, 70's and 80's and I even saw 90 on next Thursday.  I don't like to walk outside when it's so hot but I really must try.  Anyway, that's it from me. Oh, the diet is going well, I try to stay at about 1200 calories a day.  See you soon!

WOW, Soonie! I just saw your post about your surgery! What a wake up call (for me) as I remember I think we are about the same age and weight, too! I am so happy you are one of the lucky ones that gets a second chance and it reminds me that I get one, too - everyday - to do better.

Yes, beloved DDers, I am still among the living!  So sorry if I worried anyone.  I tried to get in here a few weeks ago and I guess I didn't remember the right password and they never e-mailed it to me so I gave up until now.  Magically, the right password popped into my head.  So here I am.  Lots of news.  I was out of commision for quite awhile because on New Year's Eve I had a quadrupal by-pass!  What  a surprise!  I had 75-95% blockages in four arteries.  No fun!  It was 9 weeks yesterday and I'm still not fully recovered.  All the nerves in my chest are still mending and they had to take a vein from my right leg for the by-passes so that is still pretty sore too.  I was in the hospital for 8 days.  Anyway, all I can say is "Take care of your heart, friends"!  I knew I wasn't doing that but thought I would have another 10 years or so before it would affect me.  Not so.  Now I am doing cardiac rehab and trying to lose the weight and eat better.  It's still not easy.  So just wanted to let you all know what happened to me.  I'll try to get here more often. Hope you're all doing well.

I'm stunned soonie! While I'd love to hear what all led up to your surgery (what a day for that--NYE), the more important thing is that you're DEFINITELY with us!!!

The wbmstr made it so that you can't leave a head's-up comment (except within 10 days of your entry), so no one could have left you a shout-out anyway.

Please do keep us updated. It'd be great if you posted daily or every so often, but I get that you've got to concentrate on recovery.

Surprise!!  I'm here again already.  I sure miss the old days, when I used to come in every day and make an entry, then go read everyone else's.  I really need to commit myself to this more.  Usually, these days, if I'm not busy, I have my nose buried in a good book or I'm watching T.V.  Sorry to put all this last.  I need to get out and walk in the mornings too.  The weather is so nice here in the mornings, in the 60's.  I have all the doors and windows open to the cool breeze and airing out the stale odors.  I LOVE this time of year!!  I will be out, taking Mom to the doc again this afternoon.  At least it's only about a minute from her appartment complex but her place is 9 miles from my house so I expect to be gone a couple of hours or so.  I try to be with her when she goes so I can keep up on what's REALLY going on with her.  So, anyway, I hope to not see my weight go up again now.  I was really surprised this morning with the new number, really expected to gain.  Go figure!  But I'm happy and will work to continue the downward trend.  I will see the doc on Nov. 5 and had planned to be way down by now.  I look forward to his praise when my weight drops.  So I'd better buckle down and get busy.  What a procrastinator!   Okay, time for a little brekky.  See you soon.  Have a fantastic day!

Hi, there!  Welp, I'm just maintaining right now, hope to do better this week.  It's really hard to just maintain!  But I know if I just start exercising regularly and stick with my low calories better, I would do a lot better than I have been.  'With my old body, it seems that I can't get away with any cheats at all.  My metabolism is shot.  I've been having more problems with my back and hip lately, but I think that some good walking probably wouldn't make it worse.  I've been spending more time with Mom, taking her to therapy for her leg-swelling and doctors' appointments.  She lives in an assisted living apartment complex, but they only drive them to certain areas on certain days and it's hard to work within those limitations so I do the fill-in.  So that takes a lot of my time and I also get her groceries every week, even though she pays for 3 meals a day there with her rent but she doesn't eat in the dining room very often (aaargh!) (I think if I lived there I would weigh 300 pounds by now. It's a pretty dining room and the food is decent. I would LOVE to have someone cook all my meals, heh)  Anyway, she lives on the 4th floor and the dining room is on the third so it's not too far to go, she just hates to get dressed!  So these are the days of my life!  It's finally cooling off here, only 90 degrees today, haha!  But it does get down to the low 60's at night and I have the doors and windows open right now for awhile. Love that morning fresh air!  'But we still need the AC during the day.  Winter will be here soon though and pleasant weather will be ours.  The pool is much too cold now since we have a solar heater.  Even though it's sunny all day, it gets too cold at night for the sun to heat it up in the day.  I hope to get back to the morning walking outside soon though.  Okay, that's it. Sounds like your Mom is doing pretty well...mine doesn't like to go to the dining room, either...prefers to stay in her room most of the time. We are having some cool weather here today...high in the mid-50's. :-)

I'm still losing but so slowly!  How are you all doing?  I had a bad week last week, thus, the not so much weight lost.  When you mess up a whole week it's hard to get it off again.  Although, I was up to 178 on last Saturday but I know it was mostly water weight.  So now I'm at a new low, the lowest I've been in about 3 or 4 years.  Still not going with the exercise yet but maybe this weekend.  I used to do my exercise first thing in the morning and that really worked for me but, now with the hot weather, I try to do all my errands early before it gets too hot.  I know, no excuse.  We'll see about tomorrow.  I usually get groceries for Mom on Saturdays and take them over to her and visit a little.  So there goes most of the day.  Have a good weekend.  Stay strong!

ps I heard a discussion about pools the other day and how in our heat they don't cool down at all. One guy was going to get a giant block of ice to alleviate that problem. I hope yours stays cool.

Isn't that a great feeling to reach a new low - congrats. That should be inspiration for you to continue on the downward trend. I am one lb. away from reaching 50 lb. loss in only six months (doing WW). I'm anxiously awaiting my next meeting on Friday to get my 50 lb. award. It's these small things that help to make the journey doable and to keep on going. Have a GREAT weekend.

So, I'm only down .8 pounds from last Friday.  Sheesh!  It goes so slow!  I did have a couple of cheat meals last weekend, but have been doing well ever since.  I even added a little exercise this week.  I did my recumbant bike a few times.  Not a whole lot but I'm kind of easing into it.  Otherwise, I'm staying below 1200 calories every day.  We went to Macayo's last Saturday night to celebrate birthdays.  I had only had 575 calories before we went but then I ate chips and salsa like crazy, a bean and cheese burro and some mexican rice.  No alcohol, just water for my drink.  Then I had McD's for brekky Sunday morning.  Oh, well, at least I'm on a downward trend.  I've been up and down all week.  I say that every week, don't I?  I'm going to add more exercise this week and see if that helps.  It's so hot, I just don't feel like doing it.  Okay, have a great day!  And good losing to all!

I hear ya with the heat. I want to go walking outside, but the temps have been dangerously high. I like your positive attitude on the weight loss. .8 down is better than .8 up :)
