OOO Im a big fan of the new topics bar. Good job DD webmaster!

Anyway, today is day 1 of my experiment. Whats this experiment you say? Well....Ive been reading this book called "Drop Dead Healthy" which describes this one mans journey from not so healthy lifestyle to a pretty darn healthy one doing fads and not so fads. Hes a pretty funny writer, but I like the book because hes just a regular joe shmo like all of us that have some weight to lose and lives in NYC in a regular apartment with a regular income with regular kids and a regular wife. He struggles with the same things most of us do....so you can relate a lot. Hes got me thinking about how much I actually sit in a day and how much water I dont drink....and how fast i eat my food, etc. SO today I am going to clean up my act and see how I do monthly and give a report.

SO today is day 1:

Weight: 127.4 (I will also be weighing in monthly....joy lol. This will be a stuggle, but if I gain muscle and lose fat and stay at the same weight, Im okay with that :) )

Waist: 27 in

Hips: 35

Love Handles: 32

Also, Im getting back together with my ex-boyfriend Saun T. Yep........I can already feel my body aching LOL. Im sending this memo to zach too and Im sure he will be smiling at this part.

Anywho, thats the plan. Well see how it goes! (At least I have a heck of a lot of motivation right? )

B (7) - Ezekiel bread (Totally spelled that wrong, but totally delicious! = BIG FAN)

S (10) - Greek Yogurt Vanilla + cliff bar

L (1) - Spinach, bean sprouts, baby corn, tuna

S (4) - Chicken Noodle Soup

D (7) - rotisserie chicken, 2 slices of Ezekiel bread, mozzarella and some carrots with pretzels /span>

Exercise = Insanity Plyo + running sometime? Well see.....

I didn't know that you were actively seeking another position but good luck just the same! Okay so this is just my own personal experience with losing weight however although I am at my healthiest that I have ever been in my life, I ditched the scale a long time ago..Not meaning to say that this is what you should do but sometimes you have to listen to what your body says, know what I mean? You have already reached a personal low so keep on living a cleaner lifestyle but don't ever let the number on the scale rule your thoughts and don't keep struggling to maintain a certain weight..Hey I so get it, been there, some of my friends have have no problem maintaing a size 2 without trying...I still am obsessed in a way as far as my abs are concerned but now I am just thankful that I have been blessed to have lost as much as I have and kept it off for 3 years and running.. Long story short, keep at it but don't get caught up, because you are already a success story <3

As much as I know I shouldnt really worry to much about the scale....im wondering why Im gaining weight if I keep eating superb and working out and ending within my calorie range. I know you have been trying to add weights more into your workout routine and when you first do that, your muscles respond by hanging onto water (they swell-its a good thing in the long run). I would bet anything that your weight is up a little bit because you are gaining muscle (it weighs more than fat!) Hang in there, it will even back out!!!!

legcramps on 01/25/2013:
I'm inclined to agree with getmeback, it's probably due to an increase in muscle mass. I would keep doing what you're doing and maybe start measuring yourself with a measuring tape as well. Whatever you do, keep it healthy!!!

OhioRaven on 01/25/2013:
Your food looks healthy to me. Have a good one.

Just42day on 01/25/2013:
Your dinner looks wonderful! enjoy!

thenewMLE on 01/25/2013:
It's all about the muscles, girl!! Keep up the good work. Question about the cauliflower pizza that I can't stop thinking about: why in a loaf pan instead of a pizza stone? Are you trying to keep some thickness or shape using the walls of the pan? I WILL MAKE THIS!!! have a great weekend!

Umpqua on 01/25/2013:
What the ladies above said - you're losing fat and gaining muscle. I think you've been doing a great job with food choices and calories so try not to focus on the numbers too much - you're making progress. And I'm on the cauliflower pizza train now!

V on 01/25/2013:
I couldn't agree more with what they all said above..I am sure you will find a happy medium, just keep at it my friend, have a wonderful weekend <3

Ending yesterday on a high carb note, but still ended with 1400 net calories which I am very happy with. Scale rang in high today but didnt write it down since I did eat a lot of carbs last night before bed...

One of my good friends from NC won cupcake wars on food network a couple of months ago and now her business is booming. I found in front of my door last night a box of 6 cucpakes each with a different state that Ive lived in (NC, MD, NY, PA, IA, WY) and each are different flavors and were decorated differently. I had the NY one (Cheesecake with chocolate and strawberries :D ) but I brought the rest in to work. Shes a great friend....and has great cupcakes!!!

Today, same old plan.....Workout, eat good, drink lots and lots of water since I still feel blah.......

B (5) - PB, Banana, cinnamon, almond milk milkshake (275)

S (8) - Greek Yogurt Vanilla (80)

S (10) - Apple (150)

Your menu sounds great! Can you tell me about the cauliflower crust for the pizza? Glad to see you wanting to exercise your chef skills! I think you would be a great cook because you know the taste of the foods you loved before, and the proper healthy way to eat so try imitating those flavors with healthier options! My kitchen for the last year has really been a test kitchen. Some things work and some DON'T!! hahaha I just save IN WRITING the ones that work so I can duplicate them again. A lot of the times I will google a recipe, print it as is and then start writing on it (like correcting a term paper) with healthy substitutions. After cooking it, I may write any extras I added or eliminate any flavors that just didn't work. But you really peaked my interest with the cauliflower! Have a great day!

Bikiniwax85 on 01/24/2013:
Cup cakes sounds so nice! (My all time weakness sweets and cakes) trying to cut down a lot. I know scale will go crazy when I indulge on these. Sob!!

Good Morning all!

Hope everyone had a great weekend off and is back on the waggon to eating healthy. I know I am...I only gained 1 lb this weekend but surprisingly, I thought it was gonna be a lot more. Needless to say, Im happy about the number...even if I shouldnt look at the scale. Feb 1 will bring a lot of different things. Ill be restarting insanity, hitting heavier weights, and introducing new things to my diet...plus only be weighing in every so often < major challenge for me...but I know Zach is working out pretty hard over there, so thats my motivation.

Update on Zach: Hes doing well over there. Every since he got promoted to corporal hes been taking charge of lots of junior marines, so hes been very busy. He DID mention a possibility of reenlistment......Up until this point we were 100% sure that he wasn't going to reenlist...now its 95% sure. Deep down inside hes going to reenlist which means, 4 more years of the Marine Corps for us. HM...gives me things to think about....I guess well find out come may. BUT he is doing well over there....couple weeks down, a heck of a lot more to go lol

I feel less than great today, so Im gonna try to take it easy and see how the day goes! Lots of green tea...I also see sweet potatoe chips over in the corner at the kitchen at work. Must resist!

My family was concerned about my weight again....but after seeing me literally eat more than anyone in my family, I think I convinced them that I actually DO eat....just work out a lot...and that im being 100% healthy. It was great though...my sister gave me all the pants that dont fit her. That has NEVER happened before. Growing up she was also so tiny and never larger than a size 24 waist in high school....Now shes in law school and gained 25 lbs since then. Im going to try to convince her to get on the healthy bandwaggon with me...but, I know my sister...and she is one lazy girl lol

I also REALLY wanna get back into boxing...but, I dont think there are any places here that offer it :(

B (6) - Banana, PB, Greek Yogurt = 130 + 90 + 45 = 265

S (9) - Oatmeal w/ cinnamon and sweet potato chips = 150 + 150 = 300

L (12) - Veggie Soup + apple = 160 + 150 = 310

S (3) - Popcorn bag = 150

D (6) -  Split Pea soup w/ sweet potatoe= 450

G (8-9) - Cardio and weight training! (Burned 609 calories!)

S (9) - Almonds or greek yogurt w/ fruit = 200

Total planned = 265 + 300 + 310 + 150 + 450 + 200 = 1675

Progress as of today: 45.4 lbs lost so far, only 11.6 lbs to go!

getmebackto150 on 01/22/2013:
Your food looks great for today. Great job on only 1# weight gain!!! So happy to hear Zach is doing well over there... Have a great day!!

thenewMLE on 01/22/2013:
I'm glad you had a great trip and the family saw that you are far from starving-in fact you are feeding your body!! I know it's hard to face that choice the Zach may want to re-inlist, but you may have to accept that you are going to be a life long military family. I think it's a calling and if it fits him well, it may be hard to walk away from it. But don't drag yourself down with "what if's" , enjoy your new job and your work out schedule and live every day for today and take the choices as they come. Over thinking this now is not going to make the time go any faster. There has to be a boxing studio SOMEWHERE in those corn fields if Iowa!!! I know you will find one soon!! PUT THOSE CHIPS DOWN!!! (hahaha - just kidding!) Have a great day Sara!

legcramps on 01/22/2013:
Glad Zach is doing well and yes I guess you do have some things to think about in regards to the possibility of his re-enlisting. Always throwing curveballs!

OhioRaven on 01/22/2013:
Maybe you'll have better luck finding an MMA training center. I know my favorite fighter (Matt Hughes) is from The Hawkeye state. Don't know which part. I'm a big fan of Zach. I appreciate his service to our country.

Tangalyn~ on 01/22/2013:
menu is lookin good.. have a great day!

V on 01/22/2013:
Yeah my family did the same thing with me but after they seen how much i eat, all of their concerns vanished.. I am sure it is tough knowing that the Marine Corps is in his heart but it is still a long time so hhopefully he will change his mind OR possibly become a drill Sarge, that way he will at least be stateside permanently.. Hope you find a place where you can box, I have a friend that is from the Quad Cities, she is an amateur boxer, I could ask he if she knows of any places nearby.. Hope you had a good day Sara <3

Umpqua on 01/23/2013:
I was pleased I didn't gain more over the weekend too. That's tough about Zach but he seems so dedicated to his job - I have major respect for what he does! I'm sure you guys will figure out the best way to move forward once he returns. Keep up the good work!

Just42day on 01/23/2013:
Congrats on the very minimal gain. I'm sure that's very temporary given your consistency. Hats off and many thanks to Zach, too, for his service. Whenever I see a military person, I always say thanks. They need to know how much their dedication means. A very special breed.

Happy thursday all!!

Im so excited. I just bought my first HRM :) I alsooo weighed in at 125.8 which means I must be doing something right haha (yay for losing 1.2 lbs this week (not as much as i hoped but better than nothing!).

Im leaving tonight to NY for the weekend! Havent seen my family since July so its been awhile! They love that im getting healthier, but they see it as more of concern than anything because everything they see me Im smaller and smaller...so they have given me the talk more than enough times that I should still be eating. I think its just because they are used to a larger version of me and this isnt the normal for them.....Makes me think of how I see myself. To me I am still the 170 lb girl...which is good and bad. I guess that means my personality hasnt changed, but its gonna take some time to actually "see" what I look like in the mirror....for real. Understand? Ha, my 6 am word vomit.

B (5) - Banana, greek yogurt, some oatmeal and pb = (90+120+100 = 320)

S (8) - Apple (150)

Congrats on the loss!! I knew you could do it! I'm excited that you get to see your family. I understand why they would worry seeing you so much smaller, but you need to reassure them that you are healthier because you are not starving yourself - you are just not eating too much of the wrong things. Also if they realize that you are exercising sometimes twice a day, they will appreciate that you are not hurting yourself, but helping yourself! I'm proud of you. I think you are a remarkable young woman who has taken control of her young life and found a great job, a great husband and has goals for herself and her family. Have a great time in NY and just keep smiling!!

QUESTION: SO, I'm pretty much back to the healthy eating working out plan...I wanna start adding more muscle to burn more fat. Do I need to start lifting heavy or continue with the lighter weights/more reps? Someone came up to me at the gym and said I should increase by 10 and do 12 reps instead of my 25.....Ideas?

Update on yoga: BIG FAN! Coming from a girl that like boxing....i think ill keep doing it :)

Awesome food and gym day yesterday. Drank so much water that I may challenge myself today! Same plan except Im gonna be doing the yoga during lunch thing at work. I got invited and looks like fun. We shall see :)

I bought powder PB for my oatmeal and shakes.....definitely not the PB i like....but thats because they took out the oil, so it does help with moderation and adds a little bit of flavor to the PB.

B (7) - Oatmeal, PB, and chocolate protein powder = 350

S (10) - Apple = 150

G (115-12) - Lunch time yoga

L (1230) - Salad w/ baby corn, mushrooms, beans and garden burger = 350

S (230-430) - Carrots (175)

G (5-630) - Hour of cardio and arms day + abs

D (730) - Grilled Chicken w/ sweet potato and spinach pie (400)

Total = 350 + 350 + 150 + 175 + 400 = 1225 planned so far

niftyjack on 01/16/2013:
Reply: I think so long as you do it until your muscles can't do another rep, it doesn't matter how heavy the weights are. The heavier weights will get you to near exhaustion faster, but if you reach that state with lighter weights, the results will still be the same. Least, that's what I think. Why not try out the heavier weights for a while, anyway?

If bulking up too much is your concern, I can tell you that it is impossible for a woman to do so unless she is taking roids. go heavier on the weights and see how you feel. Rule of thumb if you can't rep at least 8, use lighter weights and try to increase weekly/biweekly.. Muscle burns fat, not JMO, it is a FACT. Hope you had a stellar day :)

RYC you're welcome:) So seeing as though you do 2 a day workouts as well, you may want to do some research as to how many calories you should consume mot only to shed more lbs, but to make sure you are consuming enough if this makes sense..The person at the gym was on point about the 10-12 instead of the 25..If you are lifting heavier, there is no need to so more than 12.. A really good tool is Body Bugg/ Body Media device..It takes the guess work out..Your dinner sounds amazing as well..I hope that someday you will come this way, we would have lots of FUN :)
