(Intuitive eating in moderation)
Weight: 228.0

I've been using the old fitday software for a few days...I love it because it moniters nutrients along with calories...tells you when you have reached the days limits for carbs  etc. plus keeps track of weight, BMI and has an area for daily diaries and moods.  It's 13 years old and has a crack and many scratches....I will miss it when it finally bites the dust.....but it tells me some important things about myself....after spending 2 low carb days I just want to sleep and my sugar is low and if it gets near the danger zone...I will have to do something fast but I'm waiting it out a bit.

I got out my hashimotos books and have been reading online...and low carb diets and low thyroid do not mix and in fact there are dangers.  Cruciferous vegetables and soy are not good for low thyroid..and must be eaten sparingly if at all because they lower the thyroid even further

Hypoglycemia basically has no treatment other than food.....protein works for some,,,but doesn't work for me...it's too slow...sugar is the only thing that brings mine back up quickly.....hypoglycemia can case a coma if allowed to go too low, it isn't worth it to me to take that chance since mine is so erratic.

So I guess what I am saying is that I have to take these things into account when dieting...I know i eat a lot of carbs and sugar...but that is the only way I can keep my numbers in check.  I lost 55 pounds in the past eating carbs and sugar....I've lost 27 pounds  over the last few months eating them.......and after 2 days of low carbs and sugars all I want to do is sleep....my nutrient numbers are wonderful for those days...but I don't want to sleep my life away.

I have to go back to my old way of eating....I know it's not great for quick weight loss and I'm okay with that....I know it is not in line with todays ways of thinking about foods...but this sleepy brain fog fatigue is kicking my butt. on this second day...yesterday was good...but today stinks.

Progress as of today: 27.4 lbs lost so far, only 83 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 02/05/2018:
like you, i do NOT do well without carbs.

i also find myself sleeping tons - especially if eating low calories also.

girl - you are doing a LOT better than i am lately. too many treats in the office is unreal and hard to eat healthy...though it's getting old now, i think!

bearcountrygg on 02/05/2018:
Junk food can get boring...sometimes you just need to ride it out...but having it around makes it harder for sure. I just woke up from my second nap of the day...I've been fighting sleep for 2 days,......going back to the carbs is necessary for me I know....I would never be able to live on a low carb diet...and the people I know that lost wt on them, put weight on now when they do eat carbs. Guess it's a life long commitment...that I will never be able to make....also keto....you can lose weight on it...but peoples cholesterol soars on it....ketosis is not something to mess with...that can be deadly too.....for me...I'll eat it all...just in moderation.

Donkey on 02/05/2018:
You gotta do what works for YOU. Cutting carbs isn't for everyone. Heck, my method of "limiting" is hard enough. Sorry, but life is too short; sometimes you just want a sandwich. Right?

Plus, losing weight ain't nothing if you're miserable. Trust me on this one. BTDT.

Finally, not this last time, but the time before last that I re-gained my 55+ pounds was after doing South Beach. Husband too -- we gained everything we lost. It got too hard to do in the winter, and then life/stress/illness took over from there.

So I feel, from what you write, that you're really on the right track for your journey. I hope you feel that way too.

bearcountrygg on 02/06/2018:
Back to being me.....LOL

biscottibody59 on 02/05/2018:
You might want to check on the side effects from any prescriptions you're taking. Low blood sugar is a definite side effect of certain ones. Maybe adjust dose or time of day you take it.

bearcountrygg on 02/06/2018:
I'm not on any prescriptions at all....Back in 2001...I began weaning my self off ALL prescriptions...I was on levoxyl for thyroid, cholesterol med, blood pressure med, and steroids for asthma...I was working for a large medical office...and I lost confidence in meds...after seeing how HUMAN the doctors were...( it was a shock that they were not gods of some sort)....I saw them do and say stupid things....I knew I was allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs...and I just decided that I was going off all meds...VERRRRRRY slowly...it took 8 months to wean myself off and I have been presc free since...so no drugs for me.....and I am no less healthy now than I was then.

Reinstalled the old fitday software today.....just to see how many carbs I'm eating and to track nutrients and calories a bit .  Feeling good and plenty of energy.  BIG snow today....reintroducing myself to the exercise equiptment...I see that Marie Osmand is advertising a bar with rubber bands attached and it's black......the funny thing is I have the exact same thing bought many years ago...and it's white...and it was advertised by an old time fitness guru...I guess everything old is new again.  They even both have pictures along the bar showing different ways to use it......

Progress as of today: 27.4 lbs lost so far, only 83 lbs to go!

Donkey on 02/04/2018:
Of course I had to do a Google of Marie's contraption. If you have sufficient internet, you might be able to find workouts on YouTube to follow along with :-)

We have snow and cold all day today. Just got in from shoveling, even though it's still snowing significantly, and probably will all day. Usually, when it's snowing, it is a little warmer out than it felt today. The wind really seemed to cut hard, which makes a difference in how cold it "feels".

I keep telling myself it's great exercise. In reality, it's a reminder that this property is too much for me to handle myself.

But my major complaint is that the snow and cold makes me feel like eating -- all the time.

bearcountrygg on 02/04/2018:
When I was taking care of my Mom at her house we did a lot of shoveling snow and raking leaves....good exercise...but I can't say that I miss it...LOL....D was out on the tractor blowing snow around for a couple of hours this morning...and he shoveled the front porch...the back deck will get done this afternoon...I just keep my mouth shut and let him...LOL...I really do not want to be asked to help...LOL

horn_of_plenty on 02/05/2018:
keep on, do not quit...thanks for all kind comments on the guinea pigs. so appreciated. they weren't a good fit, as previously thought before trying them out. now i'm left with TONS of equipment.

horn_of_plenty on 02/05/2018:
funny how your old equipment is the "new equipment" - seems that you can only advertise and come up with so many different ways to exercise that even the old designs come back as new...similar to clothes lol

Need to get both sons birthday cards in the mail today...I can hardly believe that they will be turning 51 and 49 this coming week .....it seems like they were just babies yesterday......I guess a parent always sees their children as babies.....I notice that D...is the same.  Youngest son called yesterday and they are both fighting the flu....apparently it's hanging on for days.......we didn't get the shots...so we are staying out of the public as much as possible....3 years ago my Mom died just hours after we went to get the flu shots....I haven't had the shot since.  Schools here have been closed for days...and now the churches are closing......Home sweet Home!!!!

Didn't eatmuch yesterday...but I woke up super hungry this morning......that seems to be the way it's going lately...1 hungry day...and then 1 day of little interest in food......intuitive eating is interesting....I'm learning a lot and having very small portions ...........feeling good today!

Progress as of today: 27.4 lbs lost so far, only 83 lbs to go!

Donkey on 02/03/2018:
Sounds like today is gonna be a winner! We're expecting significant snow here this weekend, so I'm running errands this morning and then staying inside.

I don't do flu shots either, but my husband does because of his auto-immune issues. The doctors convince him to have the shot every year...

bearcountrygg on 02/03/2018:
A pretty snow is with us here today, laying on the pine branches and really quite beautiful.....They said this morning that the shot is only 20% effective this year...and that there are more than one strain of the flu.....lovely......I'm just staying away from everyone...LOL....It's funny that back a few years ago when I worked in a very large doctors office...I never caught the flu..even though the waiting room was full of patients and my desk was just a few feet from them. For wsome reason while D and I have actual ongoing health problems..we rarely catch what is going around...we get minor colds...and I do get pneumonia every few years....but haven't had the real bad flu in 20 years.

Donkey on 02/03/2018:
PS I hear you on the Chex Mix thing from Thursday night. Remember my little episode after Christmas? Chex Mix was also involved. That stuff is dangerous!

bearcountrygg on 02/03/2018:
Yup...dangerous.....

Just really disgusted with myself......late last night started a chip and chex mix problem...that carried over to this morning when I had chocolate aqnd muffins for breakfast...........I'm hobbling around with a hip that has plagued me for sometime......( never spend you sitting down time sitting on one hip with a leg tucked under you...you will pay in your old age)....so.....this morning...with my caffeine high...and my sugar high..and some tylenol... I'm hoping to get some things done around here...I have a mountain of CLEAN laundry waiting to be folded and put away...I have a dishwasher LOADED with CLEAN dishes that need to be put away and a load of dirty ones to start...........I have boxes of canned goods that need to be sorted and put away.....and I'm finding it a bit overwhelming.......I'm hoping the tylenol kicks in pretty soon because schwans is coming today and they have a 4 hour window...so I need to watch for him too......and rearrange the freezer.  I

I just can't figure out if I am self sabbotaging...or if I just don't want to eat what it takes to get to a healthy weight.

Still before 9 AM....thought  I wanted a morning nap...fell asleep and woke 5 minutes later to a noise that was just the furnace coming on....all that sugar and caffeine made me jumpy I guess.......so I got back up and got some of my work done...tylenol  is working thankfully......just feel all ticked off and bloated..........I've already had it with today and it's just getting strted...UGH!

Canned goods put away, dishwasher unloaded and reloaded and running....1 more load of laundry done to add to the mountain....that will have to wait for awhile.  Bed made, boxes ready to take to garage....thankful for a man with matches...LOL

Lunch was mixed fruit bowl and nuts and a handful of cereal

Dinner...not hungry...so not eating

Progress as of today: 27.4 lbs lost so far, only 83 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 02/02/2018:
It sounds like you are cold, sore and hungry and you just need comfort food when you are under physical strain. Like you need to plan healthy comfort food first and do calories later... like cut out the gluten and sugar and any sugar free substitutes and then let your palette adjust. I can't control what I eat when I drink diet coke, etc.

bearcountrygg on 02/02/2018:
Once the Tylenol kicked in I actually felt good......but you are correct...I'm eating the wrong things when I'm not feeling good.

horn_of_plenty on 02/02/2018:
it took me MANY MANY years to get back to the weight i like...i got there once when i was around 22-24...then it got away from me with a shift in careers. and only around the past two years did i get back to the exact weight...almost reached it at 29-30 but then got injured so it was a rough slope between 30yrs old until 33 yrs old...and finally success.

bearcountrygg on 02/02/2018:
The time does need to be right....when I lost 55 pounds before the only food that was a problem for me was granola bars.....now it seems that there are at least 50 things getting in the way...LOL

happy-1 on 02/02/2018:
I try to stash healthy junk food for when I don't feel good and want to just eat something to feel better. Thus I buy cauliflower pizza, nitrate free hot dogs, hot wings, turkey burger patties, edamame pasta... And then I also make the breakfast cookies, muffins, etc. to curb my bread cravings. I do have some M&Ms and individual packets of Double Stuffed Oreos in my bear barrel for camping nights but haven't hit those so far.

I still fail and eat pizza but not as much. My thing I need to not eat is chicken ramen noodles... Bad Bad Bad... but oh so good. They are such a vital thing for camping I can't not buy them and then I can't not eat them.

bearcountrygg on 02/02/2018:
When I was a kid the stores were all small...because there weren't that many things to sell.....now...the options are endless and they are all so tempting...I do have lots of healthy stuff here....but it isn't tempting me...LOL....I do feel better now..and I'm back in control.

Maria7 on 02/02/2018:
Hope you get to feeling better. We all eat things we usually have on the 'avoid' list from time to time, I know I do. Hope you have a good evening. Your progress has been FANTASTIC!!! Smile!

Another good scale day...I feel like I have the weight on the run now...passed that dreaded plateau...and once over that hump it gets easier.  I'm going to try to stay away from the scales for awhile.....I do bettr not weighing usually...I'm working more on intuitive eating and feeding the cravings in moderation and if I do that right...the weight will go anyway.

Breakfast

coffee

biscuit and sausage gravy ( small serving)

Snack

Muffin

Coconut chips

Lunch

baked chicken breasts, salad and rice a roni

Dinner

will be mixed fruit salad and walnuts

Evening, chips, chex mix

Congrats on the loss. It's always a motivational boost when I drop to a new number range.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
Thank you...I have to keep mixing things up...that seems to keep me losing.

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2018:
yep weight will go for sure....you made a little extra change and it's going again - good job!

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
Thanx

innerpeace on 02/01/2018:
Great job, I'm glad you found something that works for you. I was watching a news magazine and they were discussing restrictive feeding. The lady would only eat between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and then stop. She said that it took the body so much time to digest food and then it would work on using stored fat. She was saying she lost almost 50 pounds after she stopped eating at 2 pm.

Never mind I don't think this would work with your low sugar.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
It does actually work....some days I can get away with it.....other days I can just use hard candy or some sugar in water...I've done it....I think the hardest part is the evening....reflux can happen at night with it too....but it is an option.

Donkey on 02/01/2018:
Love today's menu! Especially dinner - sounds so light and tasty.

bearcountrygg on 02/02/2018:
That was a huge bag of frozen fruit....but it is good and we are still working on it...LOL

Weight: 229.0

Loved the scale this morning...and broke another barrier...it's been awhile since I was in the 220's.  It's coming off slowly...but I like that...I'm not giving up any food or food group...lost a lot before that way and it's still working....I know I would never be happy cutting entire food groups out of my life....eating what I'm craving and eating small portions is the way I like it.  I get grumpy when my choices are restricted....and I like to be happy....I'm too darn old to spend the last few years I have left wanting something I can't have.

Breakfast

coffee

sausage gravy on biscuit

Snack

Banana

Lunch

Garden salad

1 cookie

Dinner

walnuts

mango, pineapple, peach, and strawberries

Progress as of today: 26.4 lbs lost so far, only 84 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 01/31/2018:
THNX

horn_of_plenty on 01/31/2018:
BCGG this is great news.....it's good that you are doing it in moderation and not a rush to get there! wooohoo.... over 20lbs so far for you, that's GREAT!

yes, i wouldn't recommned cutting anything completely....it is NOT necessary except for an allergic or major health reason from dr.

i am bad with restriction too...and i tend to go overboard after trying to restrict.

keep on!

bearcountrygg on 01/31/2018:
Smaller portions are the key for me.

Donkey on 01/31/2018:
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you!!! "Everything in moderation" truly is the best way to live, if one can do it. It takes a lot of hard work, but it seems like you're on your way to mastering it.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
It actually wasn't that hard...I decided that a taste was better than never having something again.

Donkey on 01/31/2018:
PS Commented on yesterday's entry.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
ok

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2018:
smaller portions of carbs and meats and fats are key for me too....what i like to use for filling up is the veggies, as you know :) same thing as you that portions are what help me.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
Somewhere along my lifetime the portions became something that they never had been before...and I believe that it started with Mickey D's supersizing....I lost sight of what a serving really was.

My mom LOVES Schwann's! Schwann's was very helpful in her weight loss journey - and even more so for her maintenance journey.

When my folks moved to Vegas, she decided she wasn't going to start up Schwann's again. That didn't last very long, I tell ya... LOL!

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
Schwans is AMAZING!!!! I had it years ago and stopped....but picked it up again years later too....their stuff is very well packaged...and they have a lot of heart healthy choices.....they come here again tomorrow...and I ALWAYS make sure I have room in the freezer for them!!

Up at 5 per usual....D heading out to the dentist very early....but it's an hours drive either way.......so I will have a little peace and quiet for awhile...LOL...my plans for the day are to basically stay on my feet...and clean and empty drawers etc...and toss some more stuff...either to the trash or to the car to drop off at a donation center.....I also need to do some reorganizing in the food pantry......and a sticky chili sauce container tipped over in the fridge and made a huge mess...that I didn't want to deal with yesterday....so I put a paper towel over it and carried on...my guess is that that paper towel is firmly bonded to the shelf today....LOL ....so...that's the deal around here......

Coffee

cookies

sweet potatoes

banana

taco meat in small tortilla

Looking at your food in the two earlier entries, i notice something that as been happening to myself.

lately, i don't eat that many veggies at home, seems the more i stray from them, the more i do NOT want them. and with chocolate, the more i make a habit of having it, the more i want it. so what i'm saying is, it's so hard to break old habits...and have more veg, more fruit (you don't really need that much fruit- just 1-2 pcs each day...) but yeah, seems my eating has changed and isn't so hot ...i'm trying to make it better...more healthy sweet potatoes / squash...and once again less sweets. keep on...

i have a dentist appt also today. i hope all goes well for your D. My dentist is actually walking distance. I will prob walk straight there from the bus, actually. Better than going home first and into my car..It's seriously 10 min walk from my apt!

good luck cleaning the sauce....i would totally have done the same lol....i'm always putting things on the backburner...but this weekend for the first time i actually did things according to a semi-plan where i told myself that by 10:30am sunday i'd start cleaning a specific task, and things went more according to plans and i got a lot done...seems i always do better with a set schedule!

enjoy your day home, pray for no cavities for both me and D.

i don't think i have a cavity...we shall see!

bearcountrygg on 01/29/2018:
It's funny...I have really had an aversion to veggies for the last couple of years.......carbs have become my go to food...and it's definitely not good.

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
Very nice mix of proteins, carbs, fats...loving the nuts and tasty meat in tortilla...very good job.

bearcountrygg on 01/29/2018:
Some days I'm hungry and some days I'm not...I had a feeling it would be a hungry days because yesterday I wasn't interested really...somehow it all evens out.

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
i love small tortillas although i admit lately i'm sick of them so will be switching to something a hair different.

love that cinnamon raisin bread lol...so tasty when it's toasted

bearcountrygg on 01/29/2018:
Raisin bread is gone now...I will miss it! LOL

Maria7 on 01/29/2018:
Hope you have a good day. That sauce has been 'waiting' on you. Smile!

bearcountrygg on 01/29/2018:
THAT was a big mess!

Donkey on 01/29/2018:
I will admit that I do not know much about being hypoglycemic, although I remember my high school friend having a problem with this. She said that protein was her go-to, e.g. an apple with peanut butter.

So I guess my question is, does your snacks have to be cookies or potato chips? Can the snacks be something with more nutritional value and protein? Not a criticism, but an honest question. Please don't hate me :-(

bearcountrygg on 01/30/2018:
LOL Could NEVER hate you! The protein doesn't work for me...only something with high sugar does it quickly...and I usually need it to work quickly...my daughter in law responds well to protein and I wish I did too...but no go for me...I also had a boss that could use protein....Their sugar seemed to drop slowly...mine takes fast nose dives....They got light headed....I get headaches and fast mood changes...it's almost like 2 different problems....it's weird.
