Well...well.....I am now 68 years old....and I'm down to my deadline setting.....I am giving myself exactly 2 years to get down to a weight that is correct for my height...lived at that weight for many years...and I'm determined to get there again....and I'm making a promise to myself right here and now to make it happen.   The second promise to myself is to use up every bit of food on hand and to stop adding foods that are not healthy or life giving.....we have a lot of food here...and we will use it up eating smaller servings...in the proper quantities...all food can become diet food...I lost 55 pounds that way once....and put it right back on again plus some...by raising the quantities....not happening anymore!   The only food coming into this house now will be perishables...and they will all be health giving...not health taking away.  So that being said.....you will see many inappropriate foods in my daily diary...but the quantities will be small...Thank you HOP for reminding me that I only need to eat 1 of something....  Weight Watchers will keep my portions in line and that is 1 thing I have always loved about WW.is the ability to work in what ever is on hand...it's a quantity thing.

And on a super happy note...The trial for today was cancelled...so NO JURY DUTY TODAY!!!!

The next trial is in 2 weeks.....so I can forget about it for awhile.

Breakfast = coffee and biscuit and sausage gravy...that's finally gone!

Snack - grapefruit juice and chocolate

Lunch = tomatoes, carrots, cucumber and lettuce and kielbasa, cake

Progress as of today: 15.4 lbs lost so far, only 110 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2017:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY you share it with my sister!

68 years young you are!

i love your goals and i guarantee you will be successful if you stick with them!

WW is excellent yes for portion control :) i also need to remind myself to eat ONE of things too as i also tend to increase servings for no good reason. especially with chips and my favorite light ice creams!

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2017:
Happy Birthday to your sister HOP...and thank you for my birthday wishes too. I'm busy in the food storage area today separating the healthier stuff from the not so healthy..and making sure it is out of eyesight...treat can come from that area as needed but not everyday.

Up  early and feeling great........we had a doe and her 3 fawns in the front yard yesterday....beautiful creatures they are......and triplets are a bonus for sure.....1 bear down yesterday..a friend got it (only friend with a license this year..).....licenses are not available to everyone every  year...in fact chances are every 4 to 7 years.....we actually have a bear right here near us still running......my husband does not actually hunt them.....he hates bear meat so he just trains and runs dogs...( He does love that)...and I must say..he has some excellent bear hunting dogs...just never going to be bear in our freezer and that is fine with me.  I'm looking forward to being able to call about tomorrows jury duty tonight.......I'm hoping it's cancelled...but that is probably too much to hope for.....I'm really not looking forward to spending my birthday in the courthouse....

Breakfast = orange juice and coffee

Snack = hot chocolate with an added creamer

Beef broth and Snapple

NO JURY DUTY...IT WAS CANCELLED  HAPPY< HAPPY HAPPY!!!  So

I ate a biscuit and sausage gravy for dinner...LOL...First solid food since yesterday mornings banana and yogurt

These liquid days are a bit of a drag in some ways and in others they are kind of invigorating...Irritable bowel syndrome is a drag...pure and simple...But...I gotta do what I gotta do....5 o clock can't come fast enough for me...I am so looking forward to that courthouse call tonight.....Solid food only if I don't have jury duty tomorrow...If I do...than liquids it will be.....and now I have that points challenge from weight watchers....trying to get some calories in to stay in line with that too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to be TOMORROW BCGG! I was up early too…even cleaned the hamster cage before work this AM! Nice to be productive in the AM. Do your neighbors eat bear meat? Have you ever tasted it? Is it tough?

Fingers crossed your JD is cancelled for tomorrow!

bearcountrygg on 09/19/2017:
Thank you for the early birthday wishes....Neighbors don't want the meat and hubby doesn't want to hunt one...his fun is in training and working with his dogs...I've never tasted bear...He has...didn't mention it being tough...he just didn't like the flavor...he has had it cooked by 2 different people and he didn't want anymore....So he just gets a dog running license...I'm good with that. We have had plenty of venison over the years and a little of that goes a long way with me too...but he loves that...but our deer from last night are safe..

innerpeace on 09/19/2017:
Happy birthday! I hope your jury duty is cancelled...if not ensure you have something to keep you entertained. I sat in the room with hundreds of other people while the judge called off the cases and then about 20-30 people would leave to be a jury pool for that case.

She may have called at least 20 cases. I was still waiting and they sent me and the others who were left over to the juvenile court and then they did the same thing there. Luckily they were all out of cases before I was sent to a jury pool. I really don't think I would be good at that kind of thing.

I wouldn't like dealing with IBS drama. I've worked with a few people and I know it's not pleasant. Good luck in both cases...pun intended.

bearcountrygg on 09/19/2017:
Thank you for the birthday wishes....I do keep a puzzle book with me just in case....this whole thing is a drag...I do so hope it's cancelled. Round 2 out of 5...and it goes on and on. And Boo to IBS...it's a drag too..LOL

Well...It's the first day of bear hunting season...and the race is on.......lots of gunfire in the woods yesterday from the target shooters.  I will carefully walk to the mailbox today but other than that will stay inside...plenty to do in here anyway.  Hunting does control the bear population and is necessary otherwise they get way out of control and start breaking into houses...we have had them in the yard and they tear down the bird feeders if we don't stop putting seed in them early enough...so this next few days make living here a lot safer for the rest of the year.  Jury duty day number 2 is Wednesday...here we go again....UGH.

Breakfast = banana and yogurt and a cup of coffee

Lunch= lots of veggies, strawberries and ice cream

snack= Snapple and a cup of hot tea

Read about the fruit infused water post...I think the gross part for me is the difficulty I have finding non moldy and shriveled fruit here...we are so off the beaten track that the store only gets 1 delivery a week...and they end up actually taking moldy and shriveled food from the back and putting it out for customers...totally gross... thinking about that in the water....LOL...funny ...about a month ago they got a truly gigantic delivery of avocados...now there were more avocadoes than we have people living in this town...LOL...and on the very tip top of the pile...which no one could even reach...I'm sure they piled them while standing on a ladder..was a truly disgusting rotten and moldy avocado...LOL...they are so used to putting moldy and shriveled produce out...that even with a ton of actually nice looking avocados..they could not resist putting that one ...lone disgusting one...right on the top.

Wonderful news yesterday, a nephews  wife who had  a practically zero chance of getting pregnant gave birth to Samantha Leigh and all is well....they are beyond thrilled. Our small town is really busy today, lots going on here and I think every one who came here for the next week of activities is right now riding their motorcycles, atvs and anything else with wheels down our road at about 100 miles an hour.  River rafting, hunting and lots of public activities began Friday with a deadly head on car accident with 2 dead at scene and 4 airlifted out.  Good time to stay at home...it's crazy out there.

Breakfast= biscuit with a little sausage gravy

Snack= hubby found 2 sweet rolls in the freezer and wanted them this morning so we went for it...then I looked up the calories and was shocked...470 calories...WOW

Lunch will be corn on the cob half an ear, leftover Asian stir fry veggies , beef patty and pickle

Evening= coffee, chocolate cookie

We are taking a shopping sabbatical around here and working on using up what we have and replacing only perishables...so it's a good thing those sweet rolls are gone now...but the big freezer is packed tight, as is the ref/freezer...and we have about a years worth of pantry food at least.,not to mention the long term storage that is packed for emergencies (with oxygen absorbers) and will last from 15 to 35 years and purchased to keep and use only in emergencies. (about maybe 3 weeks worth)  We are committed to using up what we have...and we aren't sure if we will restock that way when it's gone or not...we decided that we are old...if there was a long term emergency situation....as in many months or years....we probably would not even want to survive it at this time in our lives.  The good thing is we would be able to share with others if we have it ( shelf stable things anyway...because freezer stuff will spoil.)...There was a time back possibly in the late 80;s or the 90's when the power grid went down across 4 states...and my son took my Dad to buy a generator for my parents house...they drove for hours and finally found 1.....the stores were running out of anything that was canned and ready to eat....it lasted for several days and finally came back on...we were in an ice storm for 1 week when the boys were little too...without heat or power...we hung a blanket over the living room doorway and heated that room with the fireplace and slept on the floor....but the times are different now and anything could happen to clear the store shelves...anyway..........we could live on what is here for a very long time.....and we need to move this stuff along...when it's finally cleared out..I will be purchasing much healthier fare...

sounds like fun times in your town except for the accident. Do accident occur often because of the dangerous roads?

I hope they slow down on their bikes! Have a relaxing weekend!!

bearcountrygg on 09/17/2017:
Yes...there seems to be a lot of accidents here because so many people come up from the cities and like to race around in the country roads without people and cops getting in their way....there are a lot of motorcycle, snowmobile and atvs losing control and hitting trees. There are several deaths a year that way. Our road is absolutely straight buts it's up and down kind of like ripples...so visibility is hard sometimes..our main driveway is a blind drive...and we have almost been hit a few times pulling out...so now we have 2 driveways..the new one is in a safer place. Most of the people that live here full time are ok...it's the ones that come up from downstate for a few days that are really crazy drivers...they just see a place to speed. I stay home on days like this if at all possible.

Following hubby to the mechanic today so they can raise the truck up a bit so that it can go through even deeper wild country...personally I think he will need a ladder to get into it...but...that's not for me to say...well actually I made a joke out of it...he laughed...this could get interesting.

Breakfast = egg, bacon, toast with butter

Snack = banana

Lunch = egg roll and chili sauce and oriental veggie stir fry

Dinner= banana and yogurt

Evening = coffee

Stopped on the way home at the grocery store and the amish farmers market....cucumber, tomatoes and corn were from there......today there were a bunch of little amish girls playing in their long dresses and bonnets...cuteness overload...and the trees are turning here...fall is on us...the reds, yellows and orange shades are coming in.

The difference in the amish children is so sweet...they play like we did when I was a kid...they make up games and find fun in pieces of string and straw...they are a refreshing change from so many kids now with their noses in cell phones...they were giggling and happy......oh to be a kid again.

Just got back from picking the truck up...and he still doesn't think it's high enough...aye yey yey.

Yes, that culture is wayyyy more creative and less spoiled by today's tv / technology. we had some Amish near me growing up, small group but they were in the elementary school system before deciding to be home schooled from 7th grade thru high school. smart kids, hard working. It wasn't in the city, it was a suburb on Long Island. Totally not here in Queens.

Up early again and plenty to get done...so it will be a busy day....the weight watchers pkg arrived yesterday and it contained some surprises....cute bag with 2 books, nesting measuring cups...an interesting bowl that collapses with sections and a water bottle that has a section for fresh fuit...for fruit infused water...sounds interesting...and on another level a little bit gross............

Breakfast = 1 egg, bacon, toast w/butter and testing out a cup of coffee this morning..I have noticed that I am falling a sleep when I sit down for more than 10 minutes during the day.  Actually I wasn't missing the coffee as much as I thought I would...but today is a test and since I have calmed down since quitting it..I'm wanting to test it.

Snack = organic applesauce

Lunch = salad with lettuce, cucumbers and celery...no dressing, Italian pasta salad with bacon and pickles

Dinner= leftover Italian pasta salad and bacon, vegetable juice

evening= tea

lol why does the fruit infused water sound gross? lemon and orange infusions are tasty - i've tried them :)

I think it's the idea of fruit just sitting there crammed into that little container which I will refill over and over all day...still haven't used it yet...need to get some healthy looking lemons for that...moldy fruit rules our area store..that also amps up the gross factor for me.

Up early...and getting busy around here...there is enough to keep me busy all day...Weight watchers stuff and a book titled HOW NOT TO DIE about a plant based diet should arrive today  No matter what I base my weight loss on..I will never totally give up any food I want....I will eat it less often...but I refuse to get fanatical about it...I choose a happy life...I've existed for almost 68 years eating anything I wanted..sometimes, quantities were bigger and sometimes quantities were smaller but I ate from all food groups including the outright ridiculous.......We own some exercise equipment ...not as much as we used to...but we have some.and we use it....Denny wore out his knees through osteoporosis and is now bone on bone from overuse...there are knee replacements in his future( he was a carpenter).  I have health issues from autoimmune diseases to a heart attack at age 29 that happened during surgery for a very simple non related to heart ,surgery.  I have spinal stenosis, bulging discs, crumbling disc and spinal bone spurs........asthma has been with me since birth along with a very abnormal heartbeat........( my Mothers life and mine hung in the balance for many days, we were both very lucky to survive back in 1949).......I grew up an only child because my brother did not survive his very difficult birth.

I tell you these things because I have lived almost 68 years .....I'm a happy person by nature, not especially healthy because heart arrhythmias and asthma have always been with me...but because I find a lot of joy in life.  I lived most of my life at a healthy weight...........my weight became out of control when we had a former foster child  ( we adopted her at age 3) in our home that was so seriously out of control that we had to barricade ourselves in our bedroom to sleep...she committed a felony at age 11...and on and on..In those years that we had to deal with her...my weight soared...from stress eating.....by the time we turned her back into the court and relinquished our rights when she was 15...the courts returned her to her heroin addicted mother because they could not find any foster homes that would take her after hearing of her history.  I tell you these things so as to make a little clearer that I don't plan on adding anymore stress to my life than I have already lived with......I'm committed to the weight watchers diet and whatever my foods are every day they will be weight watchers friendly...which is basically everything...I'm a weight watcher for life now....I lost 55 pounds with them in the late 90's and put it back on when I quit because I lost it...that won't happen again...I will count points for life now to lose and keep it off and I am fine with that...I guess I need that accountability.  I'm losing at a good healthy rate for me and I feel good!!!  So I'm happy...If I seem to ignore suggestions it's not because I disagree with you...... I know I'm not always eating a balanced diet and I know there are some things I should be eating less of or more of...that's okay.....remind me....weight watchers gives me fruit and vegies for no points..so I do need to eat more veggies..along with downing my necessary points...yesterday I didn't even eat all of my points...I will work on the veggie part...and I started that this morning....keep reminding me...I will get there.

Breakfast  = omelet filled with peppers, cheese, ham and covered with salsa and acan of laccroix water

Snack = banana and cookie

Lunch= a schwans mini 1 serving pizza and a salad of lettuce, cucumber, radishes, croutons and Braggs ginger sesame dressing

evening = lacroix water....chocolate

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 111.8 lbs to go!

jabockov on 09/14/2017:
Wow, we're so much alike it's scary. Same age, same health issues, same life stress, except I had five siblings. I LOVE to be outside in the garden, and hate that summer is almost over. We escaped the MN winter last year, for the first vacation ever, and went to Port Aransas, Texas for January and February. I loved it so much that I booked this winter at Panama Beach, Florida. It was so nice to be outside and walking through the nature preserves instead of stuck in the house eating and gaining weight. Every winter I would gain 10 to 20 pounds then spend the rest of the summer taking it off. NOT the healthiest thing to do. So, I've dug my heels in and committed to being accountable for what I put into my mouth and now I eat mindfully, write down everything I eat, and count calories. I found out, after extensive trials, that it's different for each person. I have had to find out what works for me, and I have, and I'm losing weight, slowly but surely. Hang in there, BCGG, better days are ahead!

bearcountrygg on 09/14/2017:
Hi Jabokov...It's nice to have another baby boomer here...I totally agree...things work differently for different people....the key is to find out what works or you...and it sounds like you found that...I know WW works for me, been there, done that. I guess the health issues have a lot to do with our age...and that is ok too...we are still here and we have lots of things to do yet...good luck to you...Better days are ahead, I agree

horn_of_plenty on 09/14/2017:
I'm glad you aren't mad at me haha...for continuously stressing veggies.

I understand you with the points and i do the SAME THING with counting calories.

I am also not perfect, AT ALL, in where / what forms i am eating my calories in - the same as you - i use the calories as a way to keep my weight generally in line.

So I understand you completely and i am with you!

I could use a mini pizza now but i doubt that'd satisfy me? Maybe if i ate the salad with it like you did...lol...i haven't had a pizza in a long time...

do you think that the girl was specifically that way bc she had a mother who was a heroine addict?

I am really sorry to hear of the health problems as i know from seeing and semi-experiencing the pain the cause on a person both mental and physical.

bearcountrygg on 09/14/2017:
NO.....I am not mad at you at all...I DO NEED to add more veggies...you are absolutely RIGHT!! I thought of you this morning and planned breakfast accordingly LOL. The girl was born to homeless, drug and alcohol addicted parents. She has fetal alcohol effects which causes violent behavior which made living with her very dangerous...I can't even begin to tell you of the things she did and crimes she committed...it would literally fill a book. Aside from her parents drug use they both also had criminal and mental problems so she got a double whammy when it came to what she came to us with. She is 35 now...and is the mother of a 16 year old girl who was molested by her mothers fiancée and is now being raised by her paternal grandparents. Moms fiancée is now serving a 40 year sentence for that molestation...so since the boyfriend is in prison...she got engaged to another sex offender...and the crap goes on...generation after generation. The entire situation is so sad.

Good loss again this morning and looking forward to an interesting day.......I have never had to serve jury duty before because we were foster parents for the county and since it was county court they didn't want to lose an emergency foster home...so no excuses this time...I'm looking forward to an interesting day.  Feeling like fall here today...we even had to turn the furnace on and the air off.....spent a lot of time yesterday on the phone.....both sons called yesterday and we chatted for hours and before I knew it, it was evening.  Getting up and getting ready to go so early reminds me of those old working days.......Can't help it...I wake up happy everyday!!!!

Spent the day in the courthouse while they picked a jury........I was one of the last 6 that had to sit through it but hadn't been called yet...so in the end I was turned loose.   Day one of 5 down...4 more to go over Sept, Oct and Nov.

Just going to list what I ate today in no particular order.

Cereal

almond milk

grapefruit juice

banana

toasted English muffin with a dab of butter

1 egg

ham

cheese

v8 juice = big can

lacroix water

Still have weight watcher points to use up...so will deal with that later.

spent some of todays points on trenary toast...still some to use....may just forget them

i went to jury duty once. I wasn't selected, so I got to go home. Well I wasn't selected because they had all they needed before it was my turn to be questioned. Not sure how I would handle that. Good luck.

Same thing happened to me....they went through 23 people to get a jury of 6....it was a DUI contesting the breathalyzer

horn_of_plenty on 09/13/2017:
Yeah, less meat is good. We don't need a LOT OF MEAT to live or even function right. This is why i do not eat tons of meat anymore either. It doesn't even feel right to me to eat a lot of it anymore. I prefer less. I like your way to keep adding less to recipes. More veg (LOL yes i am mentioning the veg!) and less meat is a good switcheroo!

lol, i am sure you are happy to not have been chosen!

How old are your sons? I am guessing they might be my age approximately? I'm 35. Just a guess....!

Lol, i only see a "1" in your entry, no "2's"

bearcountrygg on 09/13/2017:
Nope...no twos today...LOL..I was happy to get out of there for sure. Sons Todd and Brett are 50 and 48....Grandsons Kyle and Cody are 26 and 25...and Great Grandsons Justin and Carson are 3 and 4...this family apparently produces boys in pairs....If we ever had a girl we wouldn't know what to do with her...LOL
