Hi biscotti,

Thanks for the comment you left me. I'm sorry that you've been having shin problems too lately. From what I've read, they're often a sign that your shoes need to be replaced. Could that be the case for you? I was wearing new shoes the last time I went running but with nylon socks instead of my usual athletic socks, so the shock to my shins may have been greater than usual. Other than that the only thing I can think of is stretching - be sure to do it both before and after your jog. I've been a bit lax on that lately.

Your comment about how you love to argue/discuss politics reminded me of a funny story. My Dad was in town so I thought it would be a good idea to go out for dinner with him and my then-boyfriend, now-husband. Well, my husband and my Dad got into a huge argument about the whole Israel/Palestine thing. I was furious with my husband because of course I had wanted him to make a good impression on my Dad, and I wouldn't speak to him for the rest of the night. Then my Dad called the next morning and asked me to thank my husband for the "great discussion" and "wonderful time" he'd had the night before!

What kind of dog do you have that you walk? Bet he/she is cute! I used to have a little poodle long time ago.

Hope you have a good night!

Day 40 could have been better. I guess I was kinda like the bad dog who gets into the garbage--haha!

Really though, I'm more or less breaking even, which gets me nowhere. If I didn't have the ability and the desire to exercise I'd be up the creek. This always seems to happen when I am in drastic need of going to the grocery store. I gotta go!

Have a lovely day!

With the exception of this past week, I have felt like I was getting nowhere too. But YOU are exercising, tracking your calories, etc., and I think you are doing great! So, go to the grocery store and stock up on healthy food, and keep on keeping on!

Maria7 on 04/08/2006:
Well...I think you are making progress...cause your numbers have been steadily going down....and because of your dedication to exercise, you are probably a lot smaller than you would be if you didn't exercise! Hope you have a good evening!

Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. --Winston Churchill

Day 39 was good. I may be back on track:-)

A woman walked up to a little old man rocking in a chair on his porch. "I couldn't help noticing how happy you look," she said. "What's your secret for a long happy life?"

"I smoke four packs of cigarettes a day," he said. "I also drink a quart or two of whiskey a day. I don't diet. I eat fatty foods. And I never, never exercise."

"That's amazing," the woman said. "How old are you?"

"Twenty-eight!"

For my activity:
Tues: Airdyne 24 min/5.3 mi; Walk 15 min
Wed: Yard Clean-up 1 hr; Jog 20 min (6-2-3-1-1-7)/Walk 25 min

Days 37 & 38 were iffy to say the least. I only got 4 hours sleep on Tuesday night. Caffeine and the push to get some housework done drove that. That wreaked havoc with the day yesterday and I overate (compared to the last month or so) last night, but I slept a good number of hours last night, so all-in-all I'm okay with it.

Let me say again how important sleep is to this whole endeavor. I've had a string of days in which I got 6-7 hours sleep consistently and it seems that this is one of the keys to my success. Unless something from out of the blue crops up, lifewise, I should have no problem organizing my day to accomplish my goals.

I didn't want to finish that jog either. But I'm trying to stay within my informal schedule of jogging and not missing a Circuit Workout until I get to 145. I have a circuit scheduled for today.

Have a lovely day!

Yes, I agree that sleep is as important as diet and exercise. I know that a lot of people don't get enough sleep...and sometimes I guess we all get a better night's rest than at other times. BTW, looks like you are doing really fantastic! Have a good night!

borntocry on 04/07/2006:
Hi biscotti,

Thanks for your comment. By the way, regarding your previous entry, I also sometimes think about how heavy even a 2-lb bag of flour is and how I would hate to have to carry one of those when I'm out running. And that inspires me to try to keep my weight down for an upcoming race. Running is hard enough as it is without lugging an extra few pounds around, that's for sure!

liza36 on 04/07/2006:
I completely agree with you that sleep is very important. I find that if I'm super tired, my resolve to stay strong against all the tempting food just goes out the window, and I'm more likely to overeat. I also try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. I'd love more, but I'll take that for now.

Have a great weekend!

For my activity: Circ Aer Wkt using NordicTrack (32 min/3.4 mi); Walk 15 min

Day 36 was good. Since it's a day after quite an intense workout, I'm not measuring/weighing today. They're usually up after that, so I'll probably wait 'til next week. I'm in this for the long haul, so one week without measurements isn't going to make all that much difference. For the Circuit I set my NordicTrack to the third incline (I keep it on the second one for normal use). It has six incline levels. I thought I'd feel a little more fatigued than I do today.

It is such a great analogy that Maria777 (thanks!) made regarding a 5-pound sack of potatoes and my pounds lost thus far. Doesn't sound like much, but if I took off on my jog with a sack of potatoes, I guess it'd last about 2 seconds before I dropped it. Can't do much about those pounds when they're stuck to my hips, butt, arms and legs! Except to remain vigilant & believe that this is doable!

Have a lovely day!

For my activity: NordicTrack 32 min/3.6 mi; Jog 20 min (12-8)/DogJog 10 min/Walk 15 min

Day 35 was good. I'm up to 12 min without stopping, and I even had to go uphill for quite a bit, then I turned around and went down the hill. Hey--progress is progress! Gotta take it where I can! It's just good to know I'm not lugging 6 or so extra pounds like I was about 5 weeks ago.

Actually the 10 min jog with my doggy was easier than the 12 min, and the 8 min was easier than the 12 min.

A couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot. One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach pretty much every day. She wasn't unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for one thing; She would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around, then speak to them.

Generally, the people would respond negatively and she would wander off, but occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money for something she carried in her bag. The couple assumed she was selling drugs and debated calling the cops, but since they didn't know for sure they just continued to watch her.

After a couple of weeks the wife asked, "Honey, have you ever noticed that she only goes up to people with boom boxes and other electronic devices?" He hadn't and said so. Then she said, "Tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio and go lie out on the beach. Then we can find out what she's really doing."

Well, the plan went off without a hitch, and the wife was almost hopping up and down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave. The man walked up the beach and met his wife at the road.

"Well, is she selling drugs?" she asked excitedly." No, she's not." he said, enjoying this probably more than he should have. "Well, what is it, then?" his wife fairly shrieked.

The man grinned and said. "Her name is Sally and she's a battery salesperson." "Batteries?" cried the wife. "Yes," he replied. "Sally sells C cells by the Seashore."

Have a lovely day!

Have a good evening!!!

feeleebubs on 04/04/2006:
In response to your comment: I completely agree. 3 days in a row of "cheating" would put me into a downward spiral...in fact it already has several times over. I am not going to attemt this diet. I guess I just brought it up so show that several plans suggest cheating a little her and there as a weight loss strategy. 3 days in a row seems a little on the risky end, but I have seen that it does work for some people. Of course all diets work for someone...just not nessisarily you or I.

Day 34 was good. Today, so far, is excellently excellent--haha--because I'm down a half-pound--woo-hoo!

I discovered something about myself and it's this: I'd rather exercise than clean house. I find that kinda funny in a way. Of course I'd probably rather stub my toe on a razor blade than clean house:-) I guess the exception to exercise would be the weight work--I don't look forward to it. At all! But I'm always glad I did it. Kinda like going to confession--if you happen to be Catholic.

Oh, I totally agree! I'd rather exercise than do house work too! In fact, I don't do enough of the house work, heh. But we aren't quite living in squalor yet. I don't mind the weight work though, I think it's more fun than doing the same old cardio. I love to challenge my muscles. Too bad some of them aren't cooperating with me, bad shoulder, bad knee, sore heels. But I persevere! Keep up the good work! And have a great week!
