It pains me to put that 1-7-0 up there, but that's the way it is. I'm back on track with my exercise. Haven't been jogging since last Tues, so I may go this evening. My backache is essentially gone--thanks to the deadlifts and ab work, I think. I feel like I dodged a bullet that my back is NOT still killing me. Now onto getting that Weight to a reasonable number.

Kicking myself won't do ME any good, so I'm not going to do it. Calories could've been lower, but as I said I feel pretty good.

Sorry to see that "7". Get rid of it FAST before it becomes permanent! I know you will.

A heater at the Biltmore pool? Well, the "small" end is a 50meter Olympic sized w/6 lanes (imagined, because there is not striping). I swim in the other part which is much bigger. Like one tourist I overheard say, "It looks like a lake!" (English accent) There is no way to heat such a huge pool economically and the guests don't mind. In the winter they just want to sit around it and soak up the sun.

Back to using Fitday starting today. Sometimes I think if I stood naked in front of a mirror all day I might get through to myself--haha! Seriously, I think I'm coming back around.

Getting a bad lipid level from my doctor did wonders for me. You wouldn't believe how that changed everything, plus the blood pressure though not too high, didn't make my doctor happy. Since the numbers have been changed, 140/78 is not so great. Now they want to see 120. And since the rheumatologist didn't check the glucose, Lord only knows how high that is after all the white rice, etc.

Health is the important issue. I can "pass" for normal, neither fat nor thin which is fine with me. It's a matter of being able to say I'm at high school or college weight.

I've said many times that I'll never look thin, and that is definitely not my desire. With my body structure, I'll always have people ask me is I was a dancer!

Hi biscottibody,

Your entry reminded me of a tip I read once which suggested eating while standing naked in front of a mirror. I've never actually tried it - too worried that it might put me off food forever!

I bet that's just a fluctuation. Well, you'll know on Tuesday. I'm expecting another one any day now. The weight goes down but then up again. It's just the way it is. Good going on the exercise.

Tues 11.8: NordicTrack 50 min/5.4 mi;
Jog 20 min (6-5-2-7); Walk 20 min
Wed 11.9: Nothing

I'm going to weigh in tomorrow. I was up a bit about a week ago, but haven't had the umph! to make an entry here. I think I've finally got my calves whipped into shape. You don't know what you've lost 'til it's gone--that's how it's been with my calves. You can want to do the same amount of jogging or whatever, but if one body part isn't cooperating, well you're sunk.

Same with the back--it flared up a bit early last week and now finally seems to be back on track. The only thing I can think I did was to move a portable TV to a stand about 3 weeks (or so) ago. It started aching that next day. Anyway, "fingers crossed"--I'm back on track somewhat:-)

Hope you're all doing well these days!

I know what you mean alright! My great lipid levels soared up to the stratosphere and disappeared. No more. Gone. It's all my fault.

I know about back problems too. (Doc said, "The base of your back is a mess!") I do appreciate his honesty and it does explain various problems.

All we can do is strengthen the muscles around the problem areas and it does help a lot. When my right knee acts up I can't always attribute a reason for it, so I'm treasuring this calm period when it's not bothering me.

Keep plugging away.

For my activity: Nothing

For Day 2 of my Tue-Sat challenge (1900 cal, 84 oz water, and 10% of calories burned from exercise), I met the calorie goal, but nothing else. My lower back is spasming (is that a word?) horribly. The good thing is it's a little better, so I can feel a little optimistic. I just have to force myself to do some exercise today!

Back pain that lasts longer than about half of a day presents a depressing flashback to me. Quite a number of years ago I had a serious bout with sciatica from what turned out to be a compressed nerve between L4 and L5 of my spine. The entire nerve was affected down to my foot and even caused a spot of numbness on the side of my leg. The feeling eventually returned there, but it took about 2 years after the back pain ended.

The actual back pain lasted so long and was so relentless that I had finally accepted that I would be that way for the rest of my life. The orthopedist wanted to do surgery (of course). So I started walking--alot. And I did the exercises the Dr gave me--personally I think they give you these to "defeat" you. People probably don't believe exercise will help. The bonus at the time was that I lost 13 pounds over the time of "forced" walking

The pain resolved within months, but ever since then, whenever I get the slightest twinge of pain there, I tend to lay very low.

Cheers to you all!

Oh, Mary Janes...I love those candies, too! Good for you to wait to buy them until they're on sale---and to limit yourself to 2 bags! I'm just glad my candy corn supply has almost run out. I sure hope my mom doesn't send me any more from America! I definitely don't need them!!!

borntocry on 10/28/2005:
Hi biscottibody,

I hope your back feels better soon. It's probably a good idea to try not to exacerbate it, if you suffered from such serious problems in the past.

Thanks for the comment you left me. I'm not sure I understand what you wrote about the percentage of activity calories burned. I tried to look it up on fitday.com but I couldn't figure it out!
