I got in a 20 min jog, but barely. There were some storms lurking and I didn't feel too safe.

The other thing was shopping--that counts for a bit.

I checked out your BMI calculator and am still within normal range, but now at 24.3 since the last pound I lost. I saw that height/weight/body fat chart somewhere else in my roamings.

I was thinking that Fitday is a coddler, making the normal weight range so wide (30lbs. up to 135lbs.) It's similar to what the clothing manufacturers have done by screwing up the sizes so you don't realize how fat you've become. I surely don't need the 14 extra pounds Fitday allows for normal weight. I'm going to stick with the more rigid measure of 99 to 121 lbs.

I did my measurements and they weren't quite as bad as I was expecting. I was up a total of 2 inches. All up slightly, except my waist was the same--kinda odd, but I'll take it!

I did a Circ Aer Wkt using the NordicTrack 61 min/7.0 mi and then a
Jog 20 min/Walk 15 min later in the damply damp humidity.

Keep up the good work, if only for a while, if only for the twinkling of a tiny galaxy. --Wislawa Szymborska

Because I refuse to give up, I'll take up the question from Legcramps and make a weight goal. I haven't done that in a while. I'm going to make it 144--12 pounds from today's weigh-in. No date deadline. Just solidly trying to get there in a healthy way using eating habits that will continue to sustain me. No deprivation!

Good luck to me!

I'm going to get back to doing the weight work every 3 days. I pretty much have the jogging thing down. I've been doing 5 days on, 1 day off for a few cycles now. If I go up any more (in pounds), I may have to give it up--I can tell the difference between now and when I was at 150. Of course, why would I drag around 6 or 7 pounds more when I don't have to. Oh, let me go get a couple of large cans of Hawaiian Punch or something and run up and down the street--haha! Or should I say huff & puff!

I forgot to do measurements today, so I'll do them tomorrow instead. I'm going to try to get back on the bandwagon or maybe a new bandwagon. Somehow the old one may not be for me anymore!

Cheers to you all!

borntocry on 05/12/2004:

"....if only for awhile" I like that!

Thinking back over my 8mo. odyssey, and comparing what I used to eat/drink with what I currently do, these are the weight loss principles that have helped me. Overall, eating less. Having small snacks rather than regular meals. Cutting out completely ALL fast foods and prepared foods such as TV dinner, etc. Eating less meat and more fruits and vegetables. Adjusting my intake for those weak moments when I give in to having that piece or taste of cheese cake or Key Lime pie or chocolate. No deprivation for me either. Goodies are strictly limited. Daily exercise a MUST. Within these parameters, the weight slowly continues to melt away. Now it seems so simple and logical yet it took me years to work this thing out. This is the way that has proven to be effective for me. Curls'nCuffs' plan is totally different from mine, yet equally effective if not more so because of the tremendous amount she has lost. Each person knows best what works for him/her. When you gain you KNOW what you shouldn't have done.

So, good luck to you on your renewed quest "...if only for awhile".

legcramps on 05/12/2004:
Good for you! Your resolve and determination will get you there, you are a very strong person and I admire you for that! Changing around eating patterns or exercise patterns will help you to find what works best, and keep you motivated to stay in the game! Good luck with your 'new bandwagon'. When you say you can tell the difference between now and when you were 150 - what is that difference?

--Carl T. Rowan

Let's see here, as I regroup and continue to chip away at my fitness and weight loss goals. I'm down a half-pound--I'm pleased with that. I got all kinds of exercise in the last week (jogging, housework, a little weight work--very little:-)--and some walking. I wrote down all my food, but didn't track it in Fitday. If I don't do that on a day-by-day basis it doesn't get done. It's a drag to do 2 or more days of logging. So today I'm starting back again:-) I took a break on Tuesday from jogging and any other meaningful exercise. Then yesterday, I was OBE and I didn't get it done. So two days off kind of affects my mood, but I believe I'll have no problem getting back into the swing of things starting today. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Cheers to you all!

squiggly on 05/06/2004:

Thanks for your comments, and thanks for the welcome back. I hope this time is to stay - but we all know it's easier to say it than to do it. You're doing great and should be very proud of yourself. Losing weight this way means you'll be more likely to keep it off in the long run! The weather here is still really cold, too cold for me! I think it's time to move somewhere warmer. When I went on vacation to Arizona in February, the weather was warmer there than it is here right now! And it seems as each year passes, I become more and more unaccustomed to the cold. But, I still can't complain - the sunny days we get are wonderful - the stark beauty of it is enough to brighten my spirits for the entire day! To change the subject though, what are your weightloss goals? Just curious as to whether you have a timeline or not.

you had a good week!!! you continue to amaze me with your commitment to exercise.

geevee on 04/27/2004:
I'm happy with two pounds a month! To do it in one week is fantastic!

I want to ask you about how often I should do weight training. I heard that every other day to give muscles time to recuperate, but I have no idea at all. Also, the matter of sets and reps.

Should I begin by doing just one set of 10 or 15 reps and then in time increase to two and then three sets?

Also, how important is the time element? Sometimes at the gym you have to wait for a machine, so getting all the exercise within a certain period of time is not always possible.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Okay I have to know- where did you get the quote yesterday from Brigham Young???

geevee on 04/26/2004:
Barbellss? Oh, my God! I've never, ever lifted one! I am so WEAK when it comes to upper body strength. A year and a half ago when I was weight training there was one machine, the name of which I don't know, that I just couldn't show any improvement on. With arms extended upward, you had to lift the bar. The lowest weight was 15. After three months, I was still at 15 and couldn't complete the ten reps! There was no hope at all for me on this machine. If I go back tomorrow, I will ignore it!

Hey! Thanks for the tip about the caliper fat measurement. I'll ask "if" I make the plunge.

It's not so much that I'm dreading the weight room but that I'm able to use it and then when I go to the pool, am able to find a lane. I keep experimenting trying to find THE perfect time to go.

So on Wednesday I mowed for about 2 hours, then took a
Jog 20 min/Walk 10 min. Then on Thursday about all I did was some driving. Friday I took a Jog 20 min/Walk 5 min.

If you're not in your 40s yet, take a little grain of advice from me please: if at all possible, get yourself in some kind of exercise routine for the coming years. Don't forget it for months at a time.

I say this because yesterday the cobwebs were so many and strong around me (before I went jogging) that I just didn't want to do a damn thing. (And of course I was exhausted to boot.) I can always find 20 min to jog. I just know that if I stay "off" for more than 1 day, it's like climbing a horrible mountain to get back into a routine.

Cheers to you all!
