Sweat silently. Let's have no squawking about a little expenditure of energy. --Martin H Fischer

For my activity:
Wed: NordicTrack 35 min/3.6 mi (Pre-bkfst); Walk 35 min
Thur: NordicTrack 45 min/4.6 mi (Pre-bkfst); Walk 30 min

Hidy Ho! Just a quick note to say I'll be back shortly--gonna take a break for a couple of weeks (perhaps more, perhaps less). Just gonna take a short break:-)

See ya' later--it's break time for me! Onward and upward everyone:-)

*** Fri Update ***
Just wanted to say that yesterday I broke a sweat for the first time since starting to use the NTrack first thing in the morning earlier this month. In fact I barely broke a sweat when I did all the yardwork a couple weeks ago. It's not something I paid attention to, but I thought it was interesting. I have been struggling with getting the intensity I want and feeling good at the same time. Needless to say, it's been a slow road.

The other thing is just to let anyone know I updated ModerationKills and added a couple of links for anyone who's interested.
*** Later . . . ***

Hopefully when you come back I will be getting in some good exercise - we both know it's exactly what I need to kick in the metabolism! I'm going to try to get to it this weekend, I promise! Enjoy your break!

Just wanted to say hi my friend. Sorry I have not been on for sometime. Things have been kind of crazy here. Lost my Step father on Dec 20, 2010. So things have been kind of fuzzy if you know what I mean. I look forward to catching up with you all. Hugs. Beth

V on 01/19/2011:
Hey there! Congrats on the loss and getting great nordic Track workouts in the Am I might add ;) Thank you once again for all of your wisdom :) I am sending the sun your way!!! Have a good one :)

Good for you! I'll bet you've lost a lot of inches as well. Your work out routine is AWESOME. Enjoy the sunshine & Keep TCB ( Taking Care Of Business)

Enjoy that sun, Biscotti! We can go weeks without seeing it here in the winter! I don't ever really think about the sun not being out until it actually does appear and the mood lifts almost instantly! So enjoy it, and think of me in the ice and snow - yes, you can even laugh about how foolish I am to live in such a climate! congrats on the .5 pound!

Didn't count calories yesterday--didn't eat quite as much as the day before:-)

So today I began using unsweetened almond milk in my coffee (no sugar or other sweeteners added). It's bland, but adequate for "milk" for now. I don't sweeten my coffee, so basically it's just a different taste. For me it is very much like getting used to FF instead of whole milk in coffee.

This is part of my transition to a no-added-fat, plant-based way of eating. If you're interested in reading a little about what has inspired me to try to change, you can check out my other diary, ModerationKills.

I have tried almond milk in desserts and found that it was quite sweet. Well, not compared to sugar, but I am sure you know what I mean! I tried it with a brown rice, peach, cinnamon concoction similar to a rice pudding. Not bad. Good night's sleep for you, two nights in a row. Good for you.

Umpqua on 01/16/2011:
I really like the sweetened variety, I use vanilla in my smoothies. They both have fat in them so are you just trying to cut back on sugar? Just curious. I was wondering why Esselstyn recommends almond milk since nuts are basically a no-no on the diet. I like it better than soy milk though!

V on 01/17/2011:
Oh no V's back with more questions...As I am currently awaiting for my insurance to kick in, I find myself still a bit confused/a little leary about seclecting a, GP as well as an obgyn besides the usual checking the boards for misconduct and such are there any other key elements I should be looking for? As you know i have had more than a few horrifying experiences with Dr's especially when I lost my son(I would share this with you but I don't think it appropriate with the girls that are pregnant on this site)But it has left me very doubtful and that is why I ask so many questions and dig a little myself..I am guessing that your occupation is in medicine or perhaps you have unfortunately had similar experiences with them yourself, so any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated :)

V on 01/18/2011:
LOL @ just playing one on TV, i say that all the time and it never gets old!!! Well to answer your question from the beginning I have always read your posts and thought wow this chick knows her sh** Lol I also motivated and feel a little bit more enlightened if you will after reading a few of your posts or comments to other people as far as health issues...Now although I read alot about health issues I one day hope to attain the knowledge you have, and you better believe I aspire to get there ;) I wouldn't consider myself a "problem patient" and i get so frustrated when I am treated that way because i have a question(or twenty) for my Dr... This happens to me alot and hey I am not trying to challenge them but it is my right to know and walk out of their office with a full understanding of what they are saying, you know! Well I will keep you posted and will take the plunge and make some selections and hope for the best...Thank you for alot more than you know! If you didn't know I think more than a few girls here get alot of useful knowledge and motivation from you, just so you know ;) Have a good one!

Inspirations never go in for long engagements; they demand immediate marriage to action. --Brendan Francis

For my activity: NordicTrack 37 min/3.3 mi (Pre-bkfst); Walk 30 min

It's never a good idea for me to announce that I'm going to count calories--it always backfires in that I tend to then eat an inordinate amount of food that very day--no different this time.

My activity is my saving grace--and of course I consider sleep an activity. Seriously, I count it in my activities list in Fitday. I just don't use it in the deficit calculation, which I didn't calculate today--it would have been utterly pointless.

Yesterday is done--and so is today--almost! Onward and upward:-)

Brendan Francis is one smart guy, love the quote! Have a wonderful day!!!

KathyBlue on 01/14/2011:
Fitday, I was doing that too, but their food lists are not good for Europeans like me...

Maria7 on 01/14/2011:
Hope you're having a nice day today! :-)

legcramps on 01/14/2011:
LOL, that's awesome. I love fitday for that, i've counted my sleep in there before too!!!

Umpqua on 01/14/2011:
Yeah, MyFitnessPal has a MUCH better food database than Fitday in my experience. It also lists amounts in different measurements (cups or grams ie). I also like that you can easily plug in ingredients to create custom recipes, since there are some things we eat pretty regularly from scratch that are my own concoctions. I use it almost every day, it's just part of my routine now and I don't even think of it.

liza36 on 01/14/2011:
It's the same thing for me when I say I'm not eating out! I eat out that day. Darn, why does that happen? Onward and upward, as you say! Have a great weekend.

legcramps on 01/14/2011:
Yep, let's hope there's no permanent damage happening because i'd like to ride this high as long as possible ;)

Sure, it can be disheartening to look back at where you once were. At the same time, it's neat to think about how much you've changed for the better, too. At least it's like that in my situation - I sure don't want to go back there, even if I was a little slimmer :)

moogy on 01/14/2011:
Hey, just as a matter of interest, how many calories do we burn off when we sleep. I am looking into this as a serious way for me to shift some weight!!!!!!! Don't tell V! LOL It is a little dishearting to realise that all that snow shovelling was little more than the sleep, hence my interest, I would have thought snow shovelling shifted heaps!!

moogy on 01/14/2011:
And, at least you get toned when doing physical activity, your arms are going to look fierce if you have to keep that up!!

Maria7 on 01/14/2011:
Hang in there! Hope you're having a nice evening. :-)

V on 01/14/2011:
Oh heard it loud and clear!!! LOL Thank you I might add ;)

V on 01/14/2011:
Oh and might I add I too have a knack for major announcements and inserting foot in mouth shortly after...LOL

The sky is the daily bread of the eyes. --Ralph Waldo Emerson

For my activity:
Sat: Walk 35 min; Gutter Cleaning 45 min; Weedeating abt 1.5 hrs;
Mowing 1.5 hrs; Cleanup 30 min
Sun: NordicTrack 35 min/3.5 mi (Pre-bkfst); Walk 35 min
Mon: NordicTrack 26 min/2.4 mi (Pre-bkfst); Walk 30 min
Tues: Nothing

I'm up 3.5 pounds on my weigh-in yesterday, so I will reluctantly start counting calories, etc again. I'll also watch the weights/measures closely.

My last weigh-in was Jan 1st--I sort of expected a pound up or down, so it's probably a good idea to take a look now rather than 3 MORE pounds from now. I know my history and this is not the time to slack off or think next week's weigh-in will show a loss, just because. I'd rather not deal with 169 (the wt I've been back to a few times after reaching the 150s).

Saturday's yardwork fest was a personal triumph for me--I'm starting to feel like myself again. I was able to do all that I could stand for once in a very long time. This is a really good sign that I'll be able to endure a little more consistency with wt trng as well. At least that's what I'm thinking:-) My confidence was definitely bolstered!

Hey you will conquer those lbs! You always bounce back! I must get in the mindset to start the Reverse,I guess I have to jump right in instead of hemming and hawing...How is it going for you?

Umpqua on 01/12/2011:
I recommend MyFitnessPal.com, best site I have found for counting calories. I'm just about done with Reverse, and even though hubby mocks me for constantly quoting the book, it has made a huge difference in his attitude toward veggies and legumes. Sounds like you're building your endurance, great!

V on 01/12/2011:
LOL I am going to admit that everytime I mention you tadaaaa you appear out of nowhere(a little scary)LOl... As far as the workout goes, I am going to let dinner settle and perhaps do a few crunches and that is it..You know I wish i would have just done it when i was so fired up, still am just not as motivated..Time to read it again! Thank you have a god evening ;)

liza36 on 01/13/2011:
Good for you for going back to what you know works - counting calories, etc. With your renewed confidence, you are unstopable! I can't help but notice you get 7-8 hours of sleep. That's wonderful, and I'm sure makes a big difference in how you function during the day. It's something I should also strive for. My average is 5-6 hours, and that's just not enough.

Have a good one.

Thank you so much for your recommendations on lowering cholesterol. I have seen your other entries under the other name, and find the info fascinating. I'll have to check out the book you suggest. I did go online and read an excerpt, but will have to read the whole thing. I'm still wrapping my head around it all.

I had planned to make your black eyed peas this weekend, but never got to it. I have some black bean soup in the fridge that I'm using up, and then will plan to try the black eyed peas. Do you eat it with something else, like brown rice, or all by itself? As you can see, I'm not an experienced cook! Can't wait to try it soon.

Thank you, Biscotti, for checking on us. Thank you for your positive thoughts! Husband is healing well, but I'm exhausted - I don't think I'm cut out to be a nurse at all. The fact is, I have to run to the pharmacy every time he needs something and help him with things that a nurse would normally do - he should have stayed at the hospital for his recovery like he did when he we lived in Geneva. I do love my husband and want to care for him but it's hard for me to have to do things that a nurse would normally do (I almost passed out the other day with the sight of blood and size of his wound (!!!!) while changing his dressing)and be relied upon as much as I have been - it's so much responsability making sure that his temps does not rise beyond a certain degree, and LOTS OF other TMI stuff... It's been tough, but I'm hanging in there and things are getting easier - this also shall pass... Have a good day, Biscotti!

you are funny...and you guessed right...the reason i am not eager to get a computer is just what you said - i am more efficient when i don't have a computer around all day long to take me away and distract me from everything. for now, i don't need a computer as much as i used to. if i were to get a teaching job, i would certainly need one in order to write lessons/assignments/letters and the rest. but for now, i can accomplish what i need to and i don't need to be distracted by the computer. it's been a beneficial thing in many ways, strangely enough.

i think i need some more beans/peas in my diet. lately i eat enough sugary greek yogurt to certainly kill me.

Of all the legumes, black eyed peas are the only ones I never found a good recipe for...

I don't add any more oils/fat to anything in my cooking (thanks to you and the info you've posted here!)and haven't missed a bit. I also don't see any difference in the taste. I used to go through those bottles of olive oil so fast, but now they just sit there in my cupboard as I used them only for super special occasions. Have a great day!

Maria7 on 01/06/2011:
After reading that you made black eyed peas yesterday, I cooked up a pot of them, too! Had a bag of dry black eyed peas. I did put 1 tbs olive oil in them but other than that, just a little salt. They were soooo good! I like to eat mine with diced onions and a little rice. I had a couple of homemade biscuits to go with them...was delicious! Only thing about legumes is they are so bloating...but worth it! Will probably have more today that Hubby and I didn't finish yesterday that are in the fridge. Hope you have a nice day. You are getting very, very close to your goal! I know you must feel GOOD about that! :-D Have a nice day!

selina on 01/07/2011:
OMG, Biscotti, So sorry to hear your bad experience with health care, as well, yikes. Now you got me started, ha! After having experienced first world health care (Europe, Japan), I just find this unacceptable. We pay so much for health insurance, yet, they don't want to pay for a single day of hospital care on us, if they can help it. Can you believe that he was still groggy from his general anesthesia when we was released, still talking a bit of nonsense, about one hour after he came out of surgery? He had to be whelled to my car because he couldn't walk steadily... I find that the nurses do care but they can't do anything about it. It's the money grabbers at the top that set up the rules. Criminals! Sorry for the ranting! Thank you for listening/reading....

Thank you for the tip...I will surely try that out. All I've ever done when I cooked them was dump them out of the bag into cold water and cook...My reward in eating them has always included days of bloating from them. I appreciate your advice very much! Hope you are having a nice Friday! :-D

selina on 01/07/2011:
Thanks for posting the recipe - I'll try fixing it today! Yum!

V on 01/07/2011:
Yes thanks again for the recipe, i have a feeling it will be on more than a few DD ers menu in the very near future :)

Working hard as usual I see. Well done on the extra pound down, that always gives the incentive to keep going. Have a wonderful day biscotti.:)

V on 01/03/2011:
Well congrats to the 1 lb loss!! I love the quote btw! I hope you are having a wonderful year so far!

moogy on 01/03/2011:
The children are on summer holidays until the end of January. It gets a bit hectic downstairs with all four of them indoors if it is a hot day. However, they are having a sleepover at their dad's tomorrow so I think a bowling tournament will be on!!!

Umpqua on 01/03/2011:
Congrats on your pound loss! Thanks for the links on iron. I'm going to write more about this tomorrow I think. My son was only 1/2 a point below where he should be, but with all of us cutting back on meat here I figure it's important to be mindful of getting enough iron.

jolt on 01/03/2011:
WTG on the pound down!!! Love the quote and so true. I am not making resolutions anymore it makes them to stressful for me! My goals are physical activity 3 x a week and finding myself :) Life is only beginning!!!! gl girl

Umpqua on 01/04/2011:
The artificial sweeteners in the Pedialyte are a huge issue for me. ALL the children's electrolyte drinks seem to have them and they're gross tasting and I hate to give them to my kids. But when they get sick I get so afraid of dehydration. My mother suggested coconut water, I'll have to check my health food store for it. I will check out Esselstyn's take on the iron, I'm sure it will make me feel better about my choices ;)

V on 01/04/2011:
I always have admired Ali for his humbleness, LOL ;)

Maria7 on 01/04/2011:
Congrats on your 153! You're doing really well! Happy New Year to you, too! :-)

The pre-breakfast cardio is great medicine--there's no downside so far. Of course I had a little quad soreness at first--no biggie. It's great to be able to do it and feel good before, during and after--for a change:-)

No wt trng yesterday--I may get it done today. Below this entry is a Twelve Days of Christmas Parody. I've put it up before, but it's kinda cute. I suppose it'll either turn you off all sweets or make you wish you had a few mentioned in the lyrics.

Have yourself a Merry Christmas if that's your thing. Try not to overindulge but enjoy and pace yourself:-) Cheers!

That's a lot of sweets your family baked! (hehehe!) Hope you're having a nice evening. As for not overdoing, too late for that. :-) Thanks for your comment, though.
