Start: 189 (June 2001)
Low: 150 (Nov 2006)
Current BMI=27.3 My Realistic BMI Goal=22.8 (133)

For my activity: NordicTrack 32 min/3.4 mi

Weight's the same today--I'm down a little over a half-inch on measurements.

Didn't get in my walk. For my coffee I've had to resort to half & half for yesterday and today--and if my narrowing butt doesn't get to the store--tomorrow. The difference between my usual FF milk and h&h is +126 calories and +24 fat grams for two cups of coffee!

Overall I'm on the right track!

Plan for today: NTrack, Jog/Walk

Hey biscotti! Congratulations on that "narrowing butt"! Man, I wish I could say that about myself!!

Thanks for your comment. You actually did make me feel a little better. I never would have thought my running times could be "superior" to anything. (That is what you were saying, isn't it??) Maybe I will go to the track today after all...

dearerdiarist on 01/15/2008:
Yes you ARE on the right track! I love to read your entries, BB, because you are specific and have specific goals. I am working toward that. It seems so elementary, but..... Anybody who knows how to get a "narrowing butt" I want to be best friends with, you know??? :) Take good care today.

rae_regenbogen on 01/15/2008:
Wow! I never even thought that the difference in calories for 2 cups of coffee would be so much! I drink mine black, but if I didn't I wonder if I would even have thought about that. It makes me rethink the "little" caloires...

legcramps on 01/15/2008:
Holy crap, what a difference a little half & half can make, huh?!! You're definitely on the right track, and we're all very proud of you if you haven't already guessed that! Keep it up!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/15/2008:
whoa that's a huge difference in calories!!!! good calories today btw! its ok! you'll get it done! keep up the great work!

Oh now that's not fair of you to have a narrowing butt when mine is very much widening! How did you lose 30lbs? I wish I was you and had the will power to exercise everyday! Well done and keep it up :D

For Friday calories were 13 over. I didn't get in my scheduled exercise--just ran out of time, which means I'm going to make an effort to do a portion of my "daily" in the a.m. Missing 3 days in a week is not good!

!!!Extremely Boring Minutiae Alert!!!
Nevertheless, here it is: I did an online body fat test--different one than I usually do, then I did the other one I've been doing for years. So as a compromise I'm going to shoot for a first goal of a lower number for the horrendously higher value of the NEWER test (are you confused yet--haha) of 33.5% body fat. It's smack dab in between the two, if you must know!
!!!End Alert!!!

It'd probably be easier to find someone to do a skin caliper test, but even with that you can measure anything from three skin folds up to nine!

Bottom line, I'm tired of being fat just like everyone else. I finally realize for the infinitieth time--haha--that I have to lower the calories once and for all, or I'm going to be haunting the DDs until I'm 70 years old--not that there's anything wrong with being 70 and trying to lose weight, but I just don't see myself coming here and doing THIS when I'm 70;-)

A doctor died and went to heaven. When he got to the gates, he found that there was a long line to get in. He went to the front of the line and told the angel that since he was a doctor and that doctors are important people, he should be allowed to bypass the line and go right in.

The angel replied: "Up here, everyone is equal. Now, please go to the end of the line and wait your turn." The doctor grumbled but did what was requested. After a while, someone with a white smock and stethoscope walked right past the line and straight in. The doctor ran right back to the angel and said: "Hey, how come you let that doctor right in and not me!" The angel replied: "That's not a doctor; that is God playing a Doctor."

You and I were both here, doing this same thing, a few years ago. This time we need to make it stick! You're doing GREAT so far!!

fritters on 01/13/2008:
When you turn 70, you will be comming to diet diaries to tell all of us how well you are doing at maintaining!! You will have met your weight goal way before that. You know, I don't worry about the bmi or any of that. I know that if I get to a reasonable weight, everything else will fall into a good range also. You are doing great with your diet and exercise - keep it up!

workingit2 on 01/13/2008:

rae_regenbogen on 01/14/2008:
Thanks for your comment! I can't wait for the jelly legs to disappear! :)

Why don't you get a body fat scale? I bought one after talking to our fitness center director who has a masters degree in sports health something or other, and she said that they are often even more acurate than a skin caliper test. At least it's a consistant way to keep track of how you're doing and it's more personalized than an online test.

Anyway, good luck in managing your calories! You certainly can do it. :)

rae_regenbogen on 01/14/2008:
Yeah, Jill (Our fitness director) said that the percentage on the scales can vary from day to day due to water intake. She told me to take my measurements only once at the same time every week along with my set weekly weigh-in to keep the results steady.

maria777 on 01/14/2008:
Hope you are having a wonderful day! Thanks for your comment!

dearerdiarist on 01/14/2008:
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I love that little funny! I wonder if there really are "once and for alls". I just look at your declared weight and your calories and your exercise and I don't see you as an unhealthy person. You are right on the ragged edge of perfect, aren't you? Six pounds to go? Am I reading that incorrectly? You just seem so fit and committed. Even as overweight as I am I know that it is such a mammoth feat to get rid of those last pounds (I've done it a few times and why I keep wanting to revisit the scene of the crime I DO not know). The thing about the dogs and their baths... Sometimes I just about die laughing at little dog. She seems to know that she is cute and that I am loving it. Take care, BB.

Obviously I'd be kicking myself today had I not jogged yesterday evening. I feel great. It's a little better than a plod around the block, but who goes around proclaiming, "Hey, I went for a plod yesterday, and I feel like a million bucks!" Well, I do feel good since I did the circuit AND the jog. Not something I want to make a habit of because it probably contributes to the plodding scenario--no chance for speed!

Further, I haven't gotten the "tightening" in my calves the last few jogs--no shoe change either--and I was able to do 30 military pushups without stopping yesterday!

Last week I cheated a bit and counted the actual weight work as cardio--this week I'm not.

For my activity: Nothing

Almost as soon as I made my entry yesterday, I realized I wouldn't be able to do ALL my planned activity. Then some hours later I realized I wouldn't be able to do any of it. Then I completely crashed. It's pointless for me to try to push exercise through major exhaustion. I was immobilized.

That's what more than a day of sleep deprivation does for me! Luckily this doesn't happen often. I generally get 7-8 hrs/night--for 3 or so days I only got about 5 hrs--per night. Not good for me!

So throughout this week I'm going to try to make up the 1 hr of cardio I missed. Shouldn't be too difficult. However, I feel keeping the calorie count in check is probably a little more important in the grand scheme!

Right! I don't think that 5 hours a day are good for any body especially Biscotti Body, who pushes so hard. I am glad that you understand when to pull back. In reading your comments to others I always get the feeling that you are ruled by your reason. And, really, this course we are all trying to hold demands just that, doesn't it. Magical thinking just doesn't get it. HOWEVER, on another note (to revisit a subject) now I am even MORE concerned about you being out in the dark jogging. Do you watch the news???? One little woman out in the world alone in the dark... no good :( Hope as I am keying in these words that you drowsed into a nice nap. Thank you for reminding me that spring will come. I am not one who is ordinarily affected with winter, but just now I am looking at everything in terms of preferred exercise (and that would SO be something OUTDOORS). I asked CritterMom about facilities at the Y today. I am almost paralized at the thought of working out in public, but I think that the Y might be a way to ease into it. That CharleyAngel is going leaps and bounds in a more regulated situation and it is making me think that I could benefit from that also. Have you ever had a trainer? See you tomorrow. Good luck with having dreams of fuzzy lambs and fluffy clouds with deep and long sleep.

legcramps on 01/10/2008:
My Tuesday was kinda like that. Kinda, but not really. So why exactly I bring it up here, I have no idea.

ANYWAYS, I think you're doing a great and you just got a little exhausted. Hey, it happens! The main thing is you're not giving up any time soon and you're even planning on making up for the cardio workout you missed! Wow! Good for you, BB.

workingit2 on 01/10/2008:
I can't hide from the sleep either..eventually it catches up with me lol. I hope you got some good rest last night! I agree, it is a no brainer that water is only a PART of the puzzle..I dont know how anyone would assume that we think it is the CURE LOL. *sigh*

Have a great evening BB!

sharklover on 01/10/2008:
Sometimes its best to just listen to your body, and if yours was telling you to get some rest then it sounds like you made the right decision!

vvvzena2 on 01/10/2008:
Hi there. I checked that web site out you wrote about. (You have all kinds of good ones.:-) My BMI is 27.8 right now. If I get down to my goal weight, it will be at 22.9. Right in the middle of normal. lol

If I don't get a good 8 hours in myself, I'm no good either. I guess sometimes we have to listen to our body, and do as it says. I still think you're doing a great job!

maria777 on 01/11/2008:
Fantastic on your calories! Thanks for your encouraging words to my entry! You weight LESS than I do! Keep up the good work!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/11/2008:
I appreciate your words of honesty in my diary because that is far more important than just writing what you think i should expect or want to hear! It helps to have multiple viewpoints.

i still think i have a shot at fixing or mending my own eating dilemnas without a professional. I think that perhaps by dating, as weird as this sounds, and having new relationships will actually help me progress. Sometimes i confuse feelings of lonliness for feelings of wanting to be alone and binge with food as my friend. I have noticed this a long time ago and I think that dating and opening myself up to others can help. It sounds weird, but i think that my abilities lately to go out with the guy in particular that i'm talking to now can help me control my emotions to binge....

anyways, today was a better day.

If i were only getting 5 hours of sleep, I'd crash, too!!! I feel your pain! Feel better so you can get your exercise on!

For my activity:
Mon: Circ Aer Wkt using NordicTrack (32 min/3.4 mi); Walk 10 min
Tues: Nothing Cardio-ish

Okay, I'm down a half-pound for my weigh-in yesterday and for measurements I'm down a half-inch overall. I'm very pleased! I didn't get the bike ride in Monday--would have had to ride in the dark, and I have no bike light at the moment. I had a great circuit workout--a total of 27 actual minutes of weight training.

For the weekly recap of goals met or not: Calories were >2000 all days but one (Avg: 2063), all planned Circ Wkts done, at least 80 oz water on all days except two and at least 1 hr cardio all days except one.

I almost hesitate to mention it, because my back has a mind of its own it seems--from last Wednesday 'til Sunday I was having spasms in my low back and feeling like all hell could break loose at any time. It didn't and so I did my exercise as usual. (It doesn't hurt or spasm during exercise.) I'm all fine now--day three of no spasms!

Very screwed up day yesterday resulting in my getting no significant exercise. It's okay. A needed break.

Great dream I had. Not. My fingernails were mysteriously being folded over backward without breaking them. Also my kneecaps were being pulled out and then let go of like a slingshot--over and over again--but it didn't hurt. Kinda like when you dream you have a handful of money, then it's gone and then you wake the hell up! Yeah, just like that--haha!

CritterMom on 01/10/2008:
You did great this past week! Very strange dream, wonder what it means?

rae_regenbogen on 01/10/2008:
Thanks for the comment.

I actually exercise in the evenings without a personal trainer. Nate is a counselor who helps people begin and continue with exercise programs. I couldn't even imagine trying to let someone push me past my comfort zone when I'm exercising, I push myself enough. So I'd never keep going if I'm uncomfortable. I think people should always listen to their bodies. Sweat is good, but I agree that pain is not. lol.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas. Today I'll try eating more of my points during the day and just save 5 or so for a post workout snack.

That is a strange dream! I wonder what your subconcious was getting at...

Though it'd be nice to have a drop in pounds tomorrow--I'm SURE my measurements are gonna be down--SIGNIFICANTLY!

For New Year's Day it's a tradition in Texas to eat blackeyed peas for good luck. I made a very nice pot of them--I did use one ham hock, though it doesn't add all that much fat because you don't have to cook them for more than about an hour or so. So if you're looking for a good source of fiber--blackeyed peas are right there--about 14 g/1.25 cups.

Homemade from dry they have a creamy consistency--some are broken down, some are intact--good stuff! The recipe I used added good flavor with celery, garlic, onion, carrot and bay leaf. And you don't have to pre-soak blackeyed peas. I think they're #1 for me. Second would be pintos, then black beans, then small white beans, then lentils, then split peas.

Plan for today: Circuit Workout, Bike Ride, Walk

You are really looking serious, Girlfriend! What a day! What kind of dog takes you on a jog? I really like beans too. I often make red kidney beans with green bell pepper, red onion and brown rice.... all marinated in fat free Italian dressing. It's kind of jolting and sometimes I just crave it. Puerto Rican red beans and rice... Cuban black beans and rice with home made sofrito. Yum. I used to have such a dislike for ww tortillas but now I like them very much and actually prefer them. I'm sure rootin' for you to show drops in wt and measurements. I thought that you would be the one to teach me about that "degrees" symbol. Please?

greengirl on 01/07/2008:
That recipe sounds very tasty. I like beans but we dont get as much choice as you do in the States. Its getting better than it used to be. At one time I depended on beans and peas for a lot of my protein. Good luck with the weigh-in and measuring tomorrow :)

Moody2 on 01/07/2008:
Hope that the inches have dropped!! Thats what really matters, not pounds!

I wish I liked peas/beans...not something I can handle, never could. And its too bad because they are so good for you!

I LOVE pinto and black beans...OMG so very very tasty. I also really enjoy lentils but not as much as the pinto and black beans.

You are almost back to your former "low"! Yay!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/07/2008:
haha, i have the same comment as WI2!! I love peas/beans as fiber sources. Canned corn, because it always tastes SOOOOOOOOO sweet is a good runner up!

borntocry on 01/08/2008:
Hi biscotti! Actually, you don't have to soak any beans. Soaking just helps to keep them whole, and you seem to prefer them broken up anyway. It doesn't even shorten the cooking time. I always make black beans without pre-soaking them and they only take an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how old they are.

caz on 01/08/2008:
Hiya, sounds like a great recipe, need to try it out..let you know how it goes..keep up the great work xx

CritterMom on 01/08/2008:

I'm doing good with the not-smoking thing. Didn't say I was happy about it though. :-) I'll have to give my husband that recipe. He's the cook here. It sounds really good! If it wasn't for him, we'd all starve to death. lol I was raised on McDonald's and Burger Kind. My mom didn't know how to cook either. I'm learning though. Good job! I hope that you get the results you're wanting when you take measurements. I get more excited when I loose an inch then when I loose a few pounds.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/08/2008:
I ONLY eat foods that taste good to me. If they don't, sometimes I unfortunately have to throw them out...or I return them if I buy them from a specialty store by me that accepts opened returns! i love that! even vitamins and expensive items are accepted back for a full refund. Beans i don't love...and i don't eat them a lot...i would rather have them flavored with something or in chilli. I don't like them also because they have no fat and don't always keep me satisfied. But the things I drink and eat I do so because I DO like them! I'm glad that I like healthy things. If some of the unhealthy things were healthy, I'd be soooo grateful as well. Like, if donuts were only ONE CALORIE, i'd be eating them by the dozen! LOL!

Thanks for leaving me the comment! I think I will pop up in the new year. One of my resolutions is to journal more, not just in my personal journal at home but this one too.

Everything worthwhile, everything of any value, has its price. Everything anyone has ever wanted has come neatly wrapped up in its penalties. --Loretta Young (1913-2000)*

For my activity:

For Friday my cals were 5 over and got in only 56 oz water. Haven't mentioned the cardio goal, because I've made it each day thus far. I'm going to start watching the calories closer starting now--or there's no hope.

I mean all credit to me for keeping it below 3000 (actually it's not that hard unless I willfully OVEREAT for crying out loud). So it's time to watch it or eat the same things every day--and that's not gonna happen anytime soon! I could do that once upon a time, and I can do it for a meal or two, but it's awfully boring.

Nearly 80F forecast today! Gotta get while the gettin's good--haha!

*I had to check out her bio, and coincidentally today is her birthday.

Plan for today: NTrack, Bike Ride, Jog/Walk

Wishing all the best to you all in 2008!

426 cal Deficit * 9% Activities

80 degrees... How delightful... Enjoy your bike ride! I'm 22 degrees with snow sparkling on the ground and just dusting around now and then. Actually had to turn the temp down in the house while I was generating my own energy exercising. It was a pretty great feeling... been out of that mode for so long. I'm watchin' you :)

wish the weather in glsgow was as hot.. not much above freezing here..just had 2 days of heavy snow. It rained all last night and wiped away the snow, but very cold and wet.. Hopefully in the summer I will be fit enough to go out cycling, if we get a summer. Going to gym tomorrow for my assessment to see what fitness programm they will put me on. Looking forward to it. Food diet been really good today, got tips on what is healthier than I thought, so inspired from my nutrition talk at gym today.. I think it's important to get educated about food too. should be tought better in schools. Scotland is seen as the most unhealthiest place to stay in Europe. I'M JUST TURNED 40 AND GOT A SHOCK TODAY AT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A HEALTHY EATING STYLE. Keep up the good work..

Sometimes we need to grin and bear the boredom just to get to the next place in life. Like Loretta Young says in your post, "Everything anyone has ever wanted has come neatly wrapped up in its penalties."

Good luck this week!

Your diary is always so neat and organized with your ticker tape at the bottom. You are sooo together!

Hey, I notice the weight is down. Good for you! You're doing it!! I hope to join in the fun soon. Have a great week!

CritterMom on 01/06/2008:
Wow! You are almost at your goal weight. Good job!!

Yep, that's me in the snow tunnel. Thanks for remembering me. Took me a while to find my way back, but here I am! Feels good to get back on my feet again! Gonna Kick Butt this time! I'm jealous of your 80 degrees. Sitting at 30 right now. Enjoy the outdoors!

I should have no reason NOT to get in a couple of bike rides this weekend--temps forecast for above 70F. Calories high again--granted I am eating a few high-cal leftovers and I'm NOT overeating, but this is why I count calories. It can get out of hand real quick with me. It's not draconian for me to eat 1700-2000 calories by any means! (And I mean no MORE than 2000!)

Plan for today: Circuit Workout, NTrack, Walk

Browsed around at my back in the day entries.... came across July 2004 which was when I returned from some kind of adventure.???? I had this flash of a memory having to do with an email I received from you at a very sad and critical point. Something in your last comment to me made me recall that although you and I like it here, we seem to have a similar force field as to what is publically expressed. Agree? Disagree? Is the email address showing in your bio current? Would you like to share a current one? Mine is: molliepollieandme@gmail.com Draconian? Wonderful. I just adore words. :)

dearerdiarist on 01/04/2008:
I hear you, BB. Thank you for responding :)

workingit2 on 01/04/2008:
It really is amazing how quickly calories can add up, even when we control portion sizes. I do not trust myself to guess at calories. Most folks underguess more often than they over. I think even if someone overguesses calories, they still aren't doing themselves any favors!

Enjoy your beautiful weather!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/05/2008:
I had to look up "draconian" in dictionary.com even though i got the idea of what you meant. Thanks for introducing me to a new word! haha.

I envy you for because you live in Texas and the weather is sounding so pleasant. Here, it's a little cold...but i miss the sun and I think I'm going out for a long walk today. It will be 43 as a high today. Two days ago, the high was really COLD - 19-20 degrees! OUCH! Now, that is cold!

Donkey on 01/05/2008:
Thank you, Biscotti, for always being the voice of reason. If I cannot count on you to deliver a clear, objective perspective, then I cannot count on anyone. You are 100% right in regards to the treatment of my cat. And I have to say that if what the vet suggested had not been reasonably affordable, we would have put her down. The antibiotics and the IV treatments were relatively inexpensive, so we agreed that it would be worth the effort to try to rehabilitate the cat. However, we do agree that if she does not respond or relapses, that we will not maintain this regimen. I cannot be giving her IV fluids 2x a day for the rest of her life, which could conceivably be 6 more years. No, I don't think so. She does seem to be improving but we just cannot maintain this level of treatment for her on a long-term basis.

Get this -- when we thought we'd have to put her down, Husband says to me, Don't worry, we can go to the shelter and find a replacement. Oh no you don't. We have to lose at least one, possibly 2 more cats before we even THINK about stepping back into an animal shelter.

Just wanted to say hi. I'm back after a very long absence. Had to stop by, b/c I remember you being one of my favorites. You are such and inspiration to me. You seem to have it all together and have great determination. Thank you for all of that!

I followed the same diet for 20 years, eliminating starches, living on salads, lean meat, and small portions. --Gene Tierney (1920-1991)

For my activity: NordicTrack 51 min/5.4 mi; Walk 10 min

Just a bit over my calorie goal yesterday. Oh well, I just had to have some eggnog. I don't keep a running calorie count in my head. I just use Fitday to calculate the previous day. There's enough "stuff" in my head without adding a running total of anything.

Though my weigh-in isn't 'til Tuesday, I wanted to get a good weight to use for Fitday and I was 160.5--I'm okay with the subtle fluctuations up and down--better than 169.5 *YET AGAIN* by golly;-)

DDs is positively poppin' lately--the more the merrier!

Plan for today: NTrack, Jog/Walk

Generally I don't comment on my quotes, but if you're not familiar with Gene Tierney and you like old movies, you should at least try to see Laura and Leave Her To Heaven. The latter is hilarious in parts--she plays a classic femme fatale. It made tons of money for 20th Century Fox.

She had an overbite, she smoked early on because someone remarked that it would make her voice deeper (she died a smoker--with emphysema). She was in and out of mental hospitals in her 30s, escaped from one. She had many (over 20) shock treatments for depression and apparently was diagnosed as manic-depressive. Gene was the namesake of an uncle.

I just randomly found a bunch of her quotes, had seen Leave Her To Heaven years ago and thought it must have been a "B" movie as the second-rate movies/stars were called at the time. (Now I gotta look out for it and watch it again.) Her father was a lawyer and watched out for her as she became a movie star. (The studio wanted to screw with her overbite, she refused, and her father was there to back her up.) Her career actually started on the stage--and a critic remarked that she could have a long career there if Hollywood didn't snatch her up first.

But things happened to shake her--she gave birth to a severely retarded and blind daughter who was institutionalized. The problem was traced to a woman fan whom she came in contact with during a USO appearance. The fan knew she was contagious with measles, and Tierney was pregnant. (To me this seems like too neat and tidy an explanation for something that could have many causes.)

Anyway, I thought the minutiae available was interesting in light of today's Hollywood. Plus she persevered over her mental health aspects and seems to have ultimately had a happy life--she's buried in Houston. She did give birth to another (perfectly healthy) daughter. She published an autobiography in the 90s--I'd like to read it after catching these bits from a Wikipedia article. (Disclaimer: Since it's Wikipedia, the veracity of the info is dependent on the person who wrote it.)

And that's why I don't comment on the quotations . . . haha!

dearerdiarist on 01/03/2008:
I like it that you are okay about the subtle fluxuations. It just wearies one for nothing stressing over a little this or that. Thank you for the Gene Tierney news. I have seen several of her films and I think she was great. "B" movies... haven't thought of that for a while. I grew up Catholic and in the vestibule of the church each month would be a "LIST"... "B" movies were tolerated, but "C" movies were a SIN :) Today, of course "B" movies represent second rate artistically. Did you happen to see that Jerry Seinfeld interview when he was running around plugging his latest movie? He said that when he suggested to the world famous director... WHY CAN"T I REMEMBER HIS NAME????? Oh, I've ruined my story, but I am sure that I will think of his name in the middle of the night and I will be sure to give you a call then, okaY? lol. So............ Jerry Seinfeld says to what's his name: "How about we make a BEE movie?" Apparently those two were the only two who "got" the pun and the "Bee Movie" was born. Boy, I am so sure that that is WAY more information than ANYONE needed. You seem so sane and together. Are you? And, by the way, BB, where do you keep all of your exercise equipment? You are doing great and I applaud your work!

timeforachange on 01/03/2008:
I love how you don't keep a running count of your calorie intake. I definetly agree that we have enough things to think/focus on, rather than the number of calories associated with what we ate! Have a good night and another great day tomorrow!

workingit2 on 01/03/2008:
Oh hey, if you ever want more eggnog, you can have all of mine LOL I don't like the stuff. I thought Gene Tierney was a very beautiful woman. Sure didn't know all of that about her!

legcramps on 01/04/2008:
That's a great quote, although I don't know how much of it I would actually believe since our little Gene's had sort of a rough life, no?!! Great eating and exercise! Yay!

Moody2 on 01/04/2008:
I can't do the running calorie count in my head either!! Fitday is wonderful for that kinda stuff!

50 minutes on the nordic track! Woweee!! Thats fantastic!

CritterMom on 01/04/2008:
Sometimes you've just GOT to have that little sip of eggnog, or bite of whatever, to get over it. Then you can get back into watching those calories.

Do you remember me? Used to be on here, years ago, as "Soccer Mom". I'm Kyrin's sister.
