Day 1: I made the calorie and water goals. I'll find some way to report the other weekly goals as I go along.

I'll come back after midnight to reveal the diary. I don't think anyone who's posting here regularly at the moment left any comments for her including me, though I did leave one when I glanced through the diary yesterday. It's a stinky diary for the most part until she "gets it," and apparently realizes that she will self-destruct if she stays on the path she's on.

Most of us do that. We have some sort of wake-up call that first makes us realize we MUST CHANGE, then we try to change and I guess we succeed or fail to some degree.

I agree...the wake up call...and then we do fail a little as well as succeed...I think the trick is, not to get caught up in the failures and revel in the success!

WOW, Biscotti! I just read her diary...and I am just struck silent! Holy smokes!

greengirl on 09/07/2007:
hey biscotti, I checked out the diary too. She stopped posting a few months before I joined. Its definately an eye opener but behaviour like hers is far more common than you would expect, especially in inner ciry areas of the uk. I hope she found help somewhere along the way. I was far more uncomfortable with the proana stuff than the drugs. Thats something I havent come across much. You were right about the comments tho. Some of them were brutally honest!!!

Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves. --Dale Carnegie

For my activity: NordicTrack 21 min/2.2 mi; Walk 10 min

My back is still a pest. Seems to be getting better; at least it's not getting worse:-) Met my activity goals for yesterday, and today is Day 1 of an 84-day countdown. A "for certain" goal is 1700 cals/day--not all that much to ask. Possibly jog 3 days/week; Circuit workout 2-3 days/week. Drink 80-100 oz water/day. That's it unless I come up with something else. I'd like to drop at least 10 pounds.

I used to be a big coffee drinker--many cups--up to 2-3 pots at least. I now manage on 2 cups, sometimes 3, but never more than that--been this way for several years now. It's automatic. It's a feather in my cap--not drinking a gob of coffee every day. In a similar way I would see getting to 150 consistently the same way. Let's see if I can manage it:-)

And now for a little game: Name That Diary!
Okay. She's 23 now. Her diary is very special, at least I think it is. But what do I know? It has sex, drugs (OTC diet pills I think & pot), cutting, bingeing, purging and also restricting calories to 500/day. Very special because she actually reports that she eventually sees a psychologist and apparently it helps. Alot! The comments are almost more interesting to read than the diary itself. I thought about this diary after my entry yesterday and took time to find it again--the commenters really didn't hold back. Can you Name That Diary?

Plan for today: NTrack, Walk

Hope you get some good exercise today!

It rings a bell and I have been through my diary as I'm certain I entered into some tete a tete with someone about some 'research' they were touting. Unfortunately I couldnt find it on my diary so it must have been on hers. If its who I thought it was were there some strange pictures on her diary?? Just cant remember the name!!!

Never miss a chance to keep your mouth shut. --Robert Newton Peck

For my activity:
Sun: Walk 45 min; back ex
Mon: Nothing really except for a few back exercises

I'm down 2 pounds on my weigh-in. No measurements this week.

Back is doing well--still keeping my fingers crossed:-) Time to get back to it, huh! The only thing I can say is that I didn't have a completely non-active week like I could have by babying my back. So that's something to be proud of in my book;-) So! Today's the day and one day at a time and trying for consistency (as our old friend PastaGal intoned at the end of all here entries here). So DDs isn't quite what it was when I started, but neither am I. Everything must evolve--right!?!

There are some good inspirations in the old diaries from "way back when" whether each diarist kept off all their weight or not. It's about the journey for me personally. If someone wants to do something drastic, like lose a pound a day and think it's okay and even that it's sustainable or healthy, someone needs to point out that it's not. That's how DDs has changed for the worse. There used to be MANY voices of sensibility. Not so much any more. Come back sensible people, we need you!

Plan for today: NTrack, Walk

Hope you get some good exercise today!

Well, you know, I did speak out to some people on DD (Amanda8919, JShawstad) and I got blasted for it. I was told that I was mean, that I was unsupportive. That I was wrong. So I don't really say much to people any more about how they plan to lose weight.

I'm pretty happy with my journey. I can eat a variety of foods (ice cream, beer, chocolate, pizza), I don't rely on diet pills, I'm truthful to myself and log down EVERYTHING that I eat. And I've managed to keep all but 5lb of what I've lost in my journey. I started at 180 and I'm at 135-136 right now.

So I think I *do* know what I'm talking about, contrary to SOME people's opinion. But I'll be damned if I'm going to go around like some kind of Diet Police, correcting people's ways of dieting only to get insults hurled at me and my feelings hurt.

greengirl on 09/04/2007:
I know what you both mean, but I've always been someone who avoids confrontation so when I see something I think is daft I tend to just avoid commenting at all. Sort of , if I cant say something nice I dont say anything at all. I know I am a bit cowardly !!

WorkingIt2 on 09/04/2007:
Congratulations on the weight loss!! YAY! And on staying active with the hurt back! I am going slow and easy right now, if I push myself I can feel the tingling twinges and it is so frustrating!

Sometimes I wonder if the diaries posted about losing excessive weight and what-not, aren't just bad jokes played by people who think it is fun to mess with the heads of sensible dieters? I think I'll start a thread in the forums section about how folks are losing weight, how they keep it off, etc. I'd love to read some more diet specifics and maybe it will help those who think it is ok to destroy the insides with extreme dieting and pills, in order to get the 'look' on the outside. Maybe some topics about excessive exercise and dieting would help, just general conversation type stuff. Well, maybe the day after tomorrow I'll post them..kind of tired tonight lol. Take care! And again, CONGRATULATIONS!

Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid. --John Wayne

For my activity:
Fri & Sat: Nothing except a few exercises (the main one being Pelvic Tilts) for my back

Keeping my fingers crossed that things with my back are actually turning for the better. I didn't take any ibuprofen at all today. I got up, could stand straight and didn't have to limp. Of course there is still some soreness/pain, but it hasn't evolved to anything of consequence today. I was even able to take a good walk. I'm so behind on housework, which is soooo obvious haha! I'm just glad we haven't had a ton of rain which would mean I'd have to mow sooner than every three weeks--two more to go!

Being behind on my other fitness/weightlifting goals isn't so important to me at the moment. I would like to string together some pain-free days before I get back to that. And seeing that this is the last summer holiday (though I don't really NEED an excuse to eat like a big dog running loose in a sausage factory most of the time), I think I'll get back to counting on Tuesday!

Plan for today: Walk (done)

Hope you get some good exercise today!

Sun: NordicTrack 25 min/2.8 mi
Mon: Nothing Productive
Tues: NordicTrack 14 min/1.4 mi
Wed: NordicTrack 57 min/6.5 mi
Thur: Housework 1.5 hrs

I'm up a half-pound on my Tuesday weigh-in. Didn't do measurements. Thanks for the well wishes regarding my back. I do appreciate them!

Low back pain (if it lingers like this) tends to flatten out my appetite. Although presented with food I can easily gorge myself as usual;-) And I'd rather have low back pain than neck pain--go figure! Probably because what I went through years ago (see below) I see a light at the end of the tunnel!

This is from a previous entry: Back pain that lasts longer than about half a day presents a depressing flashback to me. Quite a number of years ago I had a serious bout with sciatica from what turned out to be a compressed nerve between the L4 and L5 vertebrae of my spine. The entire nerve was affected down to my foot and even caused a spot of numbness on the side of my leg. The feeling eventually returned there, but it took about 2 years, quite a long time after the major back pain ended.

The actual back pain lasted so long and was so relentless that I had finally accepted that I would be that way for the rest of my life. The orthopedist wanted to do surgery (of course). So I started walking--alot. And I did the exercises the Dr gave me--personally I think they give you these to "defeat" you. People probably don't believe exercise will help. The bonus at the time was that I lost 13 pounds over the time of "forced" walking.

The pain resolved within months, but ever since then, whenever I get the slightest twinge of pain there, I tend to lay very low.

Back Spasm Report:
Fri: Bad
Sat: Fair
Sun: Eh--soso
Mon: Pretty good until I did did some pulling and it seemed to start all over again
Tues: Pretty bad
Wed: Great! Felt like it was over!
Thur: Bad!
Fri: The Worst after I got up first thing

Plan for today: NTrack, Walk

Hope you get some good exercise today!

For my activity:
Fri: Driving 1.5 hrs
Sat: Mowing 1.5 hrs/Cleanup 30 min

Oh--oh--oh! The irony (and spasms) of it all--planning a bunch of activity! Friday my lower back felt like someone took a poker, stuck it in the left side, jiggled it around, pulled it out, stuck it back in, broke it off (so that there was about an inch or two sticking out from the skin) ensuring that it got caught on everything when I moved, and . . . did I tell you IT HURT! It's gradually getting better after a few baths, stretching and pelvic tilts. And I still mowed the lawn yesterday--so glad to have gotten that out of the way! Not so bad--I did sleep fairly well Friday night despite waking up 800 times!

Slept much better last night and the back is much better, though not 100% yet. I did get on my bicycle briefly yesterday and felt like I could have gone for a couple of miles, but thought again and after forcing myself to finish the yard cleanup, just kinda took it easy the rest of the afternoon.

I did some activity today--it didn't aggravate my back. But for me the worst thing when I get back spasms is inactivity after the first day or so. Sitting is the worst for it.

I don't know really what caused the spasms this time. Driving without stopping for a break perhaps. It hit when I picked up two grocery bags out of the car. I put them down and simply couldn't move for about a minute. It's all so familiar, and I kid myself thinking I can do my weight training whenever (instead of on a regular basis). I know that's a start. Of course, we'll see how my sore, spasmy back is in 3-5 days--that's usually how long it takes to completely clear up.

Plan for today: NTrack (done)

Hope you get some good exercise today!

Hey, I hope your back gets better as you said. I hurt mine yesterday but it doesn't feel as bad as you described, haha! Well, maybe almost. Mine feels like if I move the wrong way, it's going to freeze up on me. I hope that doesn't happen! I've never had this before. Well, have a good Monday anyway and good luck with the back.

Donkey on 08/27/2007:
I have a herniated disc in my lower back that acts up from time to time. You gotta be really careful with your back. Never take it for granted! If your back starts twitching or giving little shoots of pain, that's a signal to stop what you're doing and go lie down flat on your back for the rest of the day!

Good luck!
