Over the years your bodies become walking autobiographies, telling friends and strangers alike of the minor and major stresses of your lives. --Marilyn Ferguson

Fri: Nothing
Sat: Walk 56 min
Sun: Walk 54 min; NordicTrack 54 min/5.5 mi

I'm down 2 pounds on my weigh-in. Since I only wrote down my food in my little notebook (no Fitday counting), I'm including weekly averages for water::32 oz/day and sleep::6 hours/day.

I've got all ingredients for one of the soups finally.

Plan for today: Walk

Cheers to you all!

For my activity: Walk 10 min

I'm up 2.5 pounds. It is what it is. And it reflects my behavior of late, so I have no issues with the scale--it's very reliable--haha! I have to move on and improve on last week at the least. I was going to provide a rundown of my avg cals, etc from last week, but I pretty much know where the rubber meets the road. It's a waste of time unless I do it DAILY--note to self! I think I can improve on my water intake by alot as well.

I have recipes for a SweetPotato Tofu Stew and a Barley Soup to try. And I'll definitely make a Bean Curd (Tofu) Soup (it's very light) that I made years ago--it's great--I had lost track of the cook book it's in 'til recently.

Plan for today: Walk, NTrack, Airdyne

Cheers to you all!

For my Activity:
Sat & Sun: Nothing

Nothing done. Again. Will try again today, plus I ned to do a little gutter cleaning. Oh what fun!

***Later***
I had sort of a refreshing dream. My mother was directing traffic around the house and all the chores that she wanted us (kids) to do (like washing windows inside and out). Of course she helped us! It made me long for her to direct me in everything in my life now. Like I really want someone to tell me what to do--but maybe it would make things easier just about now!

I've been trying to get out of doing so many things--at least indulging my procrastination bone--whenever possible. I know I have to do them--somehow it seems like it wouldn't be so difficult if she were still here and cracking the proverbial whip! :-)

Plan for today: Walk, NTrack, Circuit Workout

Hope you have a good food choice day!

Nothing like a mother who was a guidance, but also a helper in the process.... Sorry that it was a dream you had & not actually her in living presence.. But, glad that it was a refreshing dream in the same token for you....

No more crastination indulgence... Get with it... You WILL feel better for getting things accomplished on no longer have them sitting on the back burner.... I have had so many things on my back-burner that it is about burnt out I think.... GOt some done today and do feel better for pushing through the "don't want to's"

Good week thoughts ahead for you!

For my activity: Nothing

I was still a little sore from Tuesday's wt trng--that's my story;-) But today I feel very little soreness and should have nothing keeping me from it. I skip two days between the workouts. It's not that much to ask of myself for the dividends it pays!

So much mind over matter.

Plan for today: Circuit Workout, NTrack, Walk

Hope you have a good food choice day!

Time flies. It's up to you to be the navigator. --Robert Orben

For my activity: Nothing

So I was contemplating some things on my walk the other day. I was thinking about a friend who has incurred quite alot in medical bills in less than a year--all related to cardiac issues. She doesn't think being obese (possibly morbidly) can be overcome, so she doesn't even try to exercise. She hasn't changed her diet and claims she doesn't eat enough to be as fat as she is. She has given up! She's cutting costs by doing things like getting rid of her home phone and all the extras--caller ID, voicemail, call waiting. (Apparently a savings of $40/mo.) BTW, I don't discuss her issues unless she brings them up. I've given up thinking I can influence her to change. I'm hoping the personal guru she's adopted (the person who has made her get rid of the phone, etc) will gradually get her to see that she can lose weight and change her diet. Hope springs eternal!

My question, rhetorical as the case may be, is this: Why do we not (especially as we get older) see all the examples around us of people who don't take care of themselves, the ones who have health issues directly related to obesity and lifestyle and corellate it to saving money (possibly--there are no guarantees where health is concerned) if they had taken better care of themselves by exercising regularly and eating properly when they still had the health to do so?

Most of us would like to save a buck (or a pound--McWoo and Greengirl) or two, but we (and I) don't necessarily tie it to prevention and taking better care of ourselves while we have the inclination and the time. I myself don't try very hard--I've sort of operated on the idea that I did "this much" and I haven't gained back to 189 and I feel better than when I started . . .  but how much better would I feel if I actually gave it my all for more than a day or two here and there?

I didn't intend for this to sound judgemental, and I'm as guilty as anyone (I'm still in the OVERWEIGHT category for BMI) for not getting this done, trying to be as healthy as possible, being a good example and moving on. Sadly my example has done nothing to motivate my friend. Gladly I haven't alienated her either. I just think we can all do better from where we are today. We may get caught up in all our past failings and fear failure or success. Do what you can today and try to move forward from yesterday and last month and last year--it may take some time to wean yourself away from the traps of the past, but I think we're all capable of it no matter where we are right now on this day and in this moment!

Donkey's comment: Constant vigilance--yes!

I am writing down my food/water and I plan to show a rundown of the averages on Tuesdays.

Plan for today: Walk, NTrack, Bike Ride

Hope you have a good food choice day!

thinnside40 on 11/20/2008:
Good thoughts there to put into practice...Practicing turns into what needs to be habit in "just doing it" I certainly desire to be the example for "healthy living" & not the person that somebody learns from in the wrong ways of unhealthy, due to poor health set on by obesity ...... What choices to choose from huh?

Have a good remainder of the week biscotti!

Of all the self-fulfilling prophecies in our culture, the assumption that aging means decline and poor health is probably the deadliest. --Marilyn Ferguson

For my activity lately:
Fri-Mon: Nothing

On my weigh-in today I'm up a half-pound. On my measurements I'm up a little over 2.5 inches overall (last time I measured was 5 weeks ago and I was at 162#).

I've gotten very lax about food choices--as in not choosing the best ones for me. Using alot of half and half in my coffee for instance. Started back strictly with FF milk yesterday. It's not awful--but my gut will keep increasing in size if I continue on at this pace. And once I let one bad habit creep in and take hold--there are sure to be others--like not getting in ANY activity for days on end--haha! (Back to having a plan for activity below.) I have had no problems with my appetite lately--it's very healthy thank you very much:-)

Plan for today: Walk, NTrack, Circuit Workout

Hope you have a good food choice day!

Best of days to you... Let's go!

skinnyjeans on 11/18/2008:
I started using a bunch of skim milk in my coffee now too, and I've finally gotten used to the taste instead of half & half. Just takes a little time to adjust to the flavor.

Donkey on 11/19/2008:
It's constant vigilance, isn't it?

Jen40 on 11/19/2008:
FF milk has grown on me and now when I don't have it, I'm lost! Hopefully you'll get used to it too and maybe come to need it. It makes a huge difference in my cal intake by the end of the day with all the coffee I drink.

Think twice before you speak, and then you may be able to say something more insulting than if you spoke right out at once.  --Evan Esar

For my activity lately:
Sun-Wed: Nothing much except alot of housework and organizing
Thur: NordicTrack 36 min/4.1 mi; Walk 10 min

No weigh-in Tuesday. By the time I realized it I had already had a couple of cups of coffee.

Go::Fight::Win!

I may do another challenge. I was pretty half-hearted about the last one.

3-Day Challenge (Sat::Sun::Mon)--84 oz water/day, at least 2 hrs activity/day, no more than 1800 calories.

kzirkle on 11/14/2008:
Before you go lecturing people, you might want to know the whole story first. We DO NOT leave him in a crate for hours at a time. My boyfriend and I have mostly opposite schedules but from 2:30-5:30 Tuesday-Thursday the puppy is home alone. Rather than letting him roam our house and potentially hurt himself, we have chosen to crate-train him. If you would do your own research, you'd find that crate training puppies is not inhumane and is actually good for dogs. Dogs have a natural instinct to create a cozy den for themselves to feel safe in and a crate provides just that. When we tried to just babygate him off in the kitchen, he ended up almost eating a magnet which could have done serious damage. We researched crates thoroughly before buying one in order to ensure we got the right size and style for our beagle puppy.

You honestly have no right to criticize me. You don't even know me. Do you expect me to quit my job and stay with the puppy 24/7? Is that what you do with your animals, if you even have animals at all? All that would teach the puppy is to be dependent on me for everything. We'd never be able to leave the house and the puppy would surely end up with separation anxiety.

It's rude, nosy, intrusive people like you that take a wonderfully supportive public diary environment and turn it into a sad place. I truly feel sorry for you. I would appreciate it if you would not comment on my page anymore.

Soon2BThin on 11/14/2008:
