(counting calories)
Weight: 187.8

Just got an update that my friend's husband came off of the ventilator today... This is AMAZING news as yesterday he had developed pneumonia and they were talking about doing a tracheostomy...

Weight was up to 188 today, but I overindulged a little last night so I'm ok w/ it... Hubby is very sick with a gi bug and fever... I'm really hoping I don't get it...   I'm feeling like I'm mirroring legcramps by saying this but my WALL is leaking... I'm SO mad... We have a picture window in the front of our living room and the frame around it was leaking out water all night... I'm HOPING that if we find a way to get rid of the icicles and snow on our roof it will stop?  NOT excited...  Today should be a good day eating wise... not sure if i will get a workout in...

B:  turky veggy burger on arnold thin (190)

S:  granola bar 140

L:  at a different facility today... so I'm not sure... not sure how to count lunch... It was a "meditereanan wrap"  small wrap (150) w/ lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes (10) small amount olives (30) small amount feta (50) 1T taziki sauce made w/ greek yogurt (30)    AND 1 cup couscous, black bean, and corn salad (200?)   470???  Does anyone have a different estimate?

D:  Hubby is feeling a bit better and  all he wanted was Homemade pizza so I made some... It was made w/ lowfat cheese so I'm guessing about 700 calories for mine... Not TOO bad...

S:  94% fat free popcorn 150

Total so far: 1650

Goal: under 1800

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 37.8 lbs to go!

V on 01/21/2011:
Hey girlie! have a wonderful day and you must not pay attention to that scale today, the little bloat will be gone by Monday and plus a few extra lbs :)

belly on 01/21/2011:
Hear you on the ice and snow on the roof, I keep thinking someone will die b/c of an icicle falling thru their skull one day. Now our back door won't close, I think the weight of the ice is warping the door frame. Have a good one!

legcramps on 01/21/2011:
Oh gosh, that's not good!

I found a number for a local guy who clears snow off houses, so i'm going to try giving him a call this weekend to see how much it would cost for me to have him clear it off instead of trying to do it myself. And, same as you, i'm hoping that once the snow is off the roof I won't have anymore leakage going on between the walls.

It's definitely a challenge, but I guess that's what makes us wiser and stronger, huh?

Have a great day today!!!

Umpqua on 01/21/2011:
I agree with V, you're gearing up for another loss. Sorry to hear your window is leaking, ugh. Hope you have a good one!

sweetpea1977 on 01/21/2011:
Thats great news on your friend's hubby!

As for your hubby, I hope he gets to feeling better.

Good luck on removing the snow and ice from your house. Be safe!!

moogy on 01/21/2011:
Well, life certainly isn't dull for you at the moment is it? I hope you have a good day whatever is going on in your world.

Maria7 on 01/21/2011:
We had ice and snow (gone now) recently. Hope your will soon be gone, too.

Weight: 187.8

The snack attack got me a little last night and I ended up giving in and having a fiber 1 muffin and ending the day at aboiut 1890.... not too bad...  Today I'm meeting skinnygrl out after work for a drink to celebrate today she gets sworn in as a lawyer in NY.... Woo hoo!!!  I must plan carefully to stay within my calories... I brought an extra frozen meal to work to eat right before I leave so I don't go to the bar hungry!  Plus I literally only have $8 to spend so I don't think I can do too much damage on that... LOL

B:  morning star frams turky burger (90) on arnold thin (100) 190

S:  orange 50

L:  morning star farms lasagna (270) granola bar (140) 410

S:  greek yogurt (150) w/ almonds (100) few blueberries (30) 280

S:   ugghhh had too many snacks... Chips (130) crackers (130) primal strips (80) 340... OUCH

D: healthy choice meal (250)   P fiber 1 muffin (180)  430

D:  1 slice pizza 300

S:  2 lite beers 200

S:  probably another turky burger (90) on arnold thin (100) and pepper slices (20) 210

Total:  2160... YIKES... not good... I guess I better stick to my plan for the rest of the night so I don't go over worse... Ugghhh... its ok... 2100 calories is NOT THAT BAD... I cannot give up hope right?

Goal:  under 1800

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 37.8 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 01/20/2011:
Not too bad at all. :)

Congrats to Skinny on becoming a NY lawyer. She is a big-timer now. :)

Umpqua on 01/20/2011:
Good snack choice, you are having a great week! Congrats to Skinny, what a huge accomplishment!

moogy on 01/20/2011:
Snap, I had a snack attack as well. Have a wonderful day to celebrate a great achievement. I am pretty sure $8 won't get you in too much trouble in NY. LOL

loveray on 01/20/2011:
Awesome!! Cheers to her from me as well!! Have a good time out:)

hopingforhealth on 01/20/2011:
Well that is definitely worthy of a celebration! Have fun!

tangalyn on 01/20/2011:
hey how is the lasagna? i almost got it the other day but i picked the bbq ribs instead

V on 01/20/2011:
I am sure you are probably at the ceremony already :( Have fun tonight, great idea with the extra dinner ;) Try not to make it a boozefest, I am sure it might get ugly so I should say pace yourself LOL Love to you and my girl skinny, tell her congrats for me :)

V on 01/20/2011:
Not bad girl!!! You can keep the carbs low tomorrow and it will balance out :)

shadetree on 01/21/2011:
I hope you had a good time last night and managed to avoid the dreaded bar food! (one of my downfalls if I am drinking!) I see you are doing the couch to 5k thing - I might try that again. (I completely forgot about it until I saw your posts!) So thanks - might be just enough to get me moving again! Have a good day today!

just42day on 01/21/2011:
Hope you had a great evening out! Have a great weekend! :)

KathyBlue on 01/21/2011:
2100 is not THAT bad :) Doesn't contribute to weight-loss though. But, one day or an other, don't really matter. Concentrate on not turning into habit. :)

legcramps on 01/21/2011:
Hope you had an awesome evening of celebrating!!!

*UPDATE*  I have to report that it is 10:15PM and I'm FULL... mark this day down girls:)

Ended the day at 1685 calories... YAY actually stayed within range!!!!! Down .8# today...  I also went to the gym and did week 4 day 1 of couch 2 5k...
3 minute run
90 second walk
5 minute run
2.5 minute walk
3 minute run
90 second walk
5 minute run

I then did about a 10 minute brisk walk as my mother in law showed up on the treadmill next to me so I was talking with her a bit... I also did some triceps lifting... I wore my heart rate monitor and it said I burned a total of 350 calories... So that is super exciting!!!!  I am totally winning this bet

Today I survived a very treacherous commute in snow and ice... took me 55 minutes when it normally takes 25-30...yikes... Hopefully it will be better by 4:30 so I can go to the gym and do couch to 5k again!

B:  arnold thin (100) w/ laughing cow (35) 2 egg whites (25)  160 *CHECK*

S:  pear 50 *CHECK*

L:  healthy choice meal (250) green giant cauliflower w/ cheese (40) 290 *CHECK*

S:  fiber 1 bar (90)  *CHECK*

S:  greek yogurt w/ almonds (220) berries (40) 350  *CHECK*

S:  cheese stick 60  *CHECK*

D:  Very random dinner...   Contessa chipotle sweet potato blend with sweet potatoes, corn,  black beans, and onions.  I added an extra onion, some yellow squash,  edamame, minute spanish rice, and salsa... The whole thing came to 810 calories so I ate 1/2   so... 405   *CHECK*

S:  Tuna salad made w/ 1 can white tuna in water (140) 1T veganaise (100) LOTS of celery, pickle relish, scallions, and spices (0) 240 *CHECK*

S:  apple: 50  *CHECK*

Exercise was the same as yesterday... I went a little slower but my heart rate was a little higher, my body was sore from yesterday's run... I messed up my heart rate monitor 1/2 way thorugh, so I'm not sure of the calorie burn, but I'm thinking about 300.

I'm definitely feeling hungry, so there will be some snacks in my future.....  But... I WILL stay under 1800 calories

Total so far:  1695

Goal: under 1800

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 37.8 lbs to go!

Sounds like you are doing great! The exercise sounds really good.

Have a great evening. If I had an amazing dinner suggestion, I'd offer it, but mine is pretty boring... pasta with tomato sauce and ground turkey. Good luck!

Weight: 192.6

So a bunch of friends ended up showing up w/ beer and homemade baked ziti... so my dinner turned into beers and baked ziti while we were watching the games... I don't think I kept it at 2 drinks:(   On a good note, we started a weight loss challenge, couple versus couple with these friends... A weight loss challenge with them last year was what kick started my weight loss last spring, so this is a good thing...  The contest lasts until April 15th and the couple that loses the biggest percentage of weight wins... THe prize is a night out for dinner and drinks at the loser's expense...  I'm excited b/c this will give me some extra motivation especially since we are broke and cannot afford to pay for a night out... LOL...

Poor hubby's falcons lost last night and he is heartbroken, but my patriots are still alive and I cannot wait for their game later today!!!!!

B:  The quesadillas I was suposed to eat last night... LOL...  2 low carb tortillas (140) 1.5 oz weighed out cheese (150) peppers and onions sauteed w/ pam (15) taco sauce (25) 330

L:  peanut butter and jelly:  2 slices lite bread (80) 1T peanut butter (100) SF jelly (20) and 1/4 cup blueberies (25)  225

Late dinner:  mashed cauliflower (25) w/ margarine (40) goat cheese (40) parmesan cheese (30) roasted garlic  135

S:  1/2 of a mango 50

S:  yellow pepper slices (15) slices mushrooms (15) roasted pinenut hummus (100) 130...  I'm mad b/c I accidently bought the higher calorie hummus, but... it was SUPER yummy...

S:  Tomato Soup 200

Total so far: 1510

Goal:  under 1800

Progress as of today: 1.2 lbs lost so far, only 42.6 lbs to go!

Good job I think it had alot to do with your heartier breakfast and 2 dinners...I think that is a great idea to do that, smaller, more heartier meals just might be the trick getmeback!! Well done and you still have enough to have a little snack if you are hungry!! Well done indeed!

With a little trial and error(not too much error LOl ) ;) You will find your own personal secret to your dieting success, and i have to tell you that your idea is GENIUS!!! I have a good feeling about your new formula!!

*UPDATE*  Talked to my friend... Her husband is pretty messed up but it could be much worse... He broke his left femur in 35 places, and left tibia in 4 places, broke his right femur in just a couple places... He will need surgery on his left leg tomorrow

He has brain trauma, but I guess its minor... Minimal swelling and minimal bleeding...  She hasn't talked to him yet... He is either unconscious or heavily sedated.  She said he will probably have to go to rehab for several months, but the outlook is good... She is surrounded by family at the hospital and she sounded much better when I talked to her... I am still praying for them but I feel much better about the situation...   I should be able to focus on HEALTH tomorrow!

*update*  today at work I was in a meeting w/ my boss who is also a close friend and she got a call from the state police that her husband was in a horrible car accident and was airlifted to the hospital...

She immediately left for the hospital... We have not hear yet from her about how he is doing... I have been numb/in shock of this ever since....  He is 36 years old... I feel light headed an nauseus...  I have been trying my best to get info, but my heart goes out to her and I am praying for the best...   Needless to say I did not go to the gym... I could barely drive home for how shaken I am...

I read sweetpea's entry today and noticed the "directory" part... I have gone back and read a LOT of my entry's... I have found  a few things about my self...

1.  I am a much better dieter when the ice cream shop by my house is open and I can have "only 8's" frozen yogurt as my evening snack... Its delish, filling, and seems to magically stop me from having other snacks...  I just need to wait until april:(

2.  I was REALLY into running all spring/summer/early fall and I'm REALLY mad at myself for getting out of it... i HATE HATE HATE winter!

3.  I need an attitude adjustment and to get my butt to the gym...

I have been terribly struggling lately and the common theme that I see is those above 3 things...  But my goodness, if I wait until spring to turn things around it will be NOT GOOD.....

I MUST start running now!!!!!!!!!  I MUST MUST MUST!!!!!   I also must just start getting better at staying within my calories!!!!!!!!!

I want to be the girl I was last summer... I wasn't at goal, but I was doing SO SO well...  I cannot let winter defeat me.....   I AM working out tonight...  I WILL... Absolutely, definitely, for sure...

Progress as of today: 13.2 lbs lost so far, only 30.6 lbs to go!

oh yea, I remember you eating "only 8's" all the time!! Hot chocolate prevents Umpqua from late night snacking, so perhaps the lite ice cream is your cure!

I love your renewed determination. You can do it!!

I'm with ya on #3 - I need that attitude adjustment pronto! You've got great determination, you'll get to where you want to be.

moogy on 01/14/2011:
There are a few of us that need attitude adjustments. It really is all about how we feel and not what we are doing. I think that how we feel determines how we do. Come on getmeback, you can be that girl again. I will look for your entry tomorrow and see that you did work out!!! For sure....

moogy on 01/14/2011:
I am so sorry that you are in such distress. It always amazes me that we can be going through life quite normally and suddenly something happens that totally wipes us out. Hang in there sweetheart. I hope you hear good news soon, just sit quietly, you will be in shock, remember to drink water.

It is similar to Bonefish's Bang Bang sauce...It sucks they come in gallon jars but I am thinking of buying one from work and perhaps mailng a few jars out to some of the girls here... I will let you know if it is not too pricy, you will be the first on the list :P

(counting calories)
Weight: 180.6

**POLL**  This is probably more appropriate for our facebook group, but I can't get on facebook here at work, so I'll post here...   How much is your grocery budget?  Per week or per month and how many people is that for in your household...   I think I mentioned we are REALLY trying to overhall our spending and get completely out of credit card debt this year...   I've set our grocery budget at $425 per month for 2011...  This included toiletrees and cleaning supplies..  It is TRICKY... This is for 2.5 people... lol   Hubby and I and we have my stepdaughter a little less than 1/2 the time...  Sometimes only every other weekend, but she usually ends up staying with us one week per month also.  Also does your budget include occasional meals out or is this  a seperate budget, or do you just eat home every single day... THANKS for your input!!!!

I'm a little sad, but actually feeling motivated as Hubby left this morning to go out of town for work for 3 days this morning... I NEED to use this as a time to refresh, focus on ME and health...   We are supposed to get a huge snow storm while he is gone, so hopefully his snowblower crash course that he gave me last weekend sunk in, otherwise, not sure how I will get out of my garage and down my driveway... LOL

B:  Grillers prime veggie burger (170) on arnold thin (100) 270

S:  fiber 1 muffin 180

L:  Stouffers mac and cheese (340) greek yogurt w/ blueberries (130) 470

S:  green pepper slices 40

S:  ? maybe a granola bar before the gym 140

D:  orange peel tofu (300) w/ 1 cup white rice (100) 400

NO SNACKS AFTER DINNER.... Girls how do I stop myself???  This is becoming my downfall... I have always struggled w/ night time eating, but SOMEHOW over the summer I was stopping myself... I need to remember how and buck up!!!

Total: 1500

Goal:  1500-1700

So sorry you're having the same struggles. It's sooo frustrating isn't it? I get so annoyed when I think how much time I've "wasted" not making progress. BUT I'm going to give it another try. Hope you do, too. I'm going to refer to this as the holiday back lash but I know I brought it on myself and only I can take the steps to get out of it so here's another day. Let's hope it's a better one for both of us! :)

sweetpea1977 on 01/11/2011:
Until recently, we were spending $1000/month on groceries for the three of us. This didnt include eating out, which was a whole other budget issue.

Our goal is to cut our grocery bill in half and limit eating out to very special occasions only (anniversary, birthday, mother's day, father's day). I am a pretty good cook, so if we want something special/unique to eat, I'll just make it instead of depending on a restaurant to make it for us. I mean, we dont even know what is going into the entrees preparation so we will be saving on calories too.

As for snacking, set yourself some rules. Stay out of the kitchen after a certain hour may be one of them. Go back and read your summer entries and see if you find clues on how you were so successful back then.

Yay for me time. Use it wisely girl!!

V on 01/11/2011:
Hey girly!!! Now I am probably sure I have asked you this before but do you like to cook??? Cooking your own meals are cheaper than buying the pre packaged frozen meals..Also it would take out the extra added sodium, and other additives...In fact if you are open to repeat meals maybe you can use Sunday for preparing 3 different meals, portion them out for the week?? I usually spend an average of $50 a week on fresh veggies fruits and meats...My triumph was Sunday when I saved almost half $26 for the exact same amount by perusing the circulars for the best deals :) I made a list and surprisingly i did not stray from the list(wants/needs) Oh btw i posted on FB a recipe from the local health food stores, and it has many vegatarian friendly recipes on it! Have a wonderful day girl!

sweetpea1977 on 01/11/2011:
I wanna be a bad a$$! That snowblower sounds AWESOME!!! We would be envy of the whole neighborhood, hehe.

liza36 on 01/11/2011:
I have been tracking my grocery bill too, and have a goal to slash it. It's just me at home, and I eat out alot (trying to change that). I have been spending, including eating out, around $350-$400 a month, with half of that eating out. My budget now is $100 a month, and that has to include eating out. As you can see, there is really no room in my budget for eating out. My budget does not include cat food and litter, since I don't want my kitties to starve! They must have their Fancy Feast! I have a pretty good supply in my pantry of canned beans, rice, soup, etc. so I am trying to use up what I have, and supplement with fresh veggies, fruit, and lean meat.

Definitely keep us posted on how you are doing. I always get inspiration and tips from people who are trying to do the same thing. Good luck with your plan!

V on 01/11/2011:
Well that makes sense...In that case make sure you take advantage of the BOGOF Publix has really good deals for that :)

sweetpea1977 on 01/11/2011:
Sounds like you either need to move to San Diego or move your kitchen from the center of your house. And both of those cost a lot of money, lol. haha, posting on here is free. Perhaps we can have a few FB groupies set up an online chat once or twice a week to help prevent you and other snackers from nighttime snacking. Then you'll just get addicted to chat rooms and have a whole other issue to deal with...we'll worry about that later! ;)

Seriously though, perhaps all you need is a tasty pack of sugarfree gum in your pocket. Anytime you feel snacky, just pop a piece in your mouth. :)

V on 01/11/2011:
Confession time, I hate doing dishes as well and my one "splurge" is going to the dollar store and getting aluminum cookware that way if I am really not in the mood to wash(usually never, lol) throw them away...Since i only cook once a week I can recycle them for about a month ;) And paper plates and bowls are a must have! LOl Love ya!

sweetpea1977 on 01/11/2011:
hahaha, your neighbor is nuts!

Garages are great, especially for snowstorms, hailstorms, hurricanes, and tornados! :)

Umpqua on 01/11/2011:
First off, the hot chocolate trick has been working wonders for me for nighttime snacking. I make 1 cup and it's anywhere from 90 to 120 calories or so depending on if I add milk. It fills me up and takes away the need to munch.

My grocery bill is probably 500/month for 2 adults and 2 preschoolers (not including eating out, but we don't do that too often). That includes dry goods. I don't do many coupons, I'll use the store coupons at Target and my grocery has special coins that give you savings each week. I get most of my dry goods/cleaning supplies at Target, and food shopping is divided between Trader Joe's and the local groceries. Trader Joe's really has awesome deals for the type of foods I buy. It's weird, I've upped our fruit and veggie intake tremendously over the past couple of months but have cut our meat budget in half, and it basically evened out.

I've started getting gardening catalogs in the mail....they cheer me up and let me know spring is on the way!

chidogs on 01/11/2011:
I try to keep my spending under control by making a menu ahead of time for the week, and then shopping for just what is needed, plus pantry stuff. So for 3 of us, plus the occassional visit by daugher's bf (who can out eat me!!), I average about $100 a week. I also try to make large size meals so one meal actually serves as two. I stock up on specials when I can but I don't have much freezer space.

loveray on 01/11/2011:
missed you!! i usually try to keep it to $50 a week, but thats for just me...

moogy on 01/11/2011:
Not much point in me throwing in my five cents worth (make that four - I am saving!!!) but I gave this website to Maria the other day. It is really good it's www.Frugal-Living-Tips.com, I hope that helps.:)

sweetpea1977 on 01/14/2011:
dropping by to let you know I was thinking of you. hope you are ok! xo
