I hope your back continues to feel ok... take it easy at the gym... maybe lots of stretching?? I'm not really sure what they say is the best exercises to do for this are.

getmebackto150 on 06/04/2013:
The doctor gave me some stretches to do every day for my back, so I did them yesterday. I'm thinking some light cardio and weight machines so I don't have to stabilize at all. Believe me I will definitely be taking it easy, last weekend scared the $h*t out of me!!

Tangalyn~ on 06/04/2013:
hope ur back keeps improving. have a good day!

Lots to catch up on, not much time today... Have not weighed myself in weeks...   Unfortunately over vacation I had a SEVERE exacerbation of my back sciatica... Crippling pain... Literally 3 days straight where I couldn't get off the floor without screaming and crying in pain for 30 minutes...  Completely ruined my one time a year that I get to see my brother and SIL...   Anyway, I'm now on prednisone for 2 weeks, which thankfully has taken care of the inflammation and the pain is blessedly eased and NEED to check in here to keep the prednisone monster at bay so I do not eat everything in sight...  Also some more healthy related things coming up in the very near future where healthful eating and moderate activity needs to be my goal.  I will hopefully be back to checking in daily with a goal of keeping active and keeping my eating healthy and in check.  Will catch up with everyone tonight or tomorrow!

B:  yoplait yogurt (100)
L:  Trader Joe's enchiladas (260) Amy's tamale Pie (150) 410

S:  Weight Watchers ice cream bar 150

(counting calories and working out!)
Weight: 196.0

Hello everyone....

Unfortunately I accidently stepped away from the site for a bit longer than anticipated...   The dept of health is safely gone for the year, Woo Hoo!  No deficiencies or findings for my department, so that is a very good thing!!

My back is still not 100%...  its better for sure but not 100%... Unfortunately this stupid injury has derailed me quite a bit... I know that some of it is physical but a lot of it is mental as well... Even though I CAN do it now, its very hard for me to psyche myself up to workout when I'm just plain uncomfortable...  But that said, hubby and I woke up this AM and said, today will be a PERFECT day of eating and exercise... I can do 1 day:)

Last weekend, hubby and I planned a romantic date day and took a drive through the hudson valley (beautiful area between new york city and Albany) and went to a few wineries wine tasting and out to dinner at this AMAZING vegetarian friendly mexican restaurant... It wasn't a diet friendly day, but it was WONDERFUL!

Sunday was a good friend's birthday so we went out to lunch and for pedicures then I spend a couple house hanging with her and my god daughter!!

No workouts this weekend...   Yesterday I was stuck at work late as I have a MOUNTAINOUS list of things to get done before my VACATION next week!  And after work seeing as how I hadn't been grocery shopping in 3 weeks and had NO food in the house I went for a small grocery shopping trip and came home and made a healthy vegan dinner... By that time it was 9PM so I didn't get a workout in yesterday either...

Today will be healthy eating and a workout...

Lots more tricky, but FUN FUN FUN events coming up...

Thursday is Stepdaughter's sweet 16 birthday.  We are going out to dinner w/ my inlaws and stepdaughter to a fancy smancy restaurant to celebrate...  Delicous but tough for low calorie menu...

Saturday I get up bright and early to drive to long island to pick up my Texas best friend and other god daughter from the airport and we will head to her parents house in East Hampton for the holiday weekend... I always have  a BLAST visiting her family as I lived with them for a couple summers in college and just love everyone there and the area, but it is usually an eating and drinking fest...  But... the only good thing is that my friend and her mom are big exercisers and I will definitely get in lots of power walks and possibly a few runs if my back is up to it...

I come home from the Hamptons on Tuesday to gear up for a visit from my brother and sister in law from Lake Tahoe NV!!!!!   We have golfing planned for Thursday and Friday-a scary proposition since my golf game has been non existant from this injury.....  Oh well, I'll try to relax and just enjoy the family time:)

Ok... this is a long enough and rambly enough post as it is so I will post my food:)

B:  homemade waffle egg sandwich: (300) coffee w/ ameretto creamer (50) 350
L:  Isreali Couscous w/ tahini sauce, tomatoes, arugula and chick peas 400
S:  greek yogurt (140) popcorn (100) 240
D:  TBD

Total Planned: 990
Goal: 1800

Exercise:

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 2 lbs to go!

Puddles on 05/21/2013:
Wow you certainly have a lot of plans going on. Enjoy. Have a great day.

Umpqua on 05/21/2013:
Sorry to hear about your back troubles. Sounds like you have tons of stuff to look forward to though, yay!

hollybelle on 05/21/2013:
Lots on the social agenda this year! Sounds great. Be careful of your back when you play golf! Baby it and it'll get better. Now if I could just say that for my heel!

ohioraven on 05/21/2013:
I've heard golfers say they played better when they were hurting or sick. they said the reason being is because they didn't overswing, or try too hard and stayed within themselves. anyway, a bad day of golf is better than none.

nenak on 05/21/2013:
Sounds like a fun packed time enjoy

I am from NY also. I grew up on Long Island now living in Queens. Hamptons are beautiful!

Sort of having an insane week... I work in a nursing home in a clinical management role and the department of health showed up on Friday for their annual week long survey... Expected at some point but always HANDS DOWN my most stressful week of the year...   Just trying to take it one day at a time and get through it!  Unfortunately my eating has been less than stellar...   Also today it feels like my back progress is regressing...   I've been working 12 hour days so I'm sure thats not helping... My goal today is to leave here by 6PM and go to the gym...   Tomorrow I have to be in 2 hours early to teach an inservice... YUCK!  But... if all goes as planned, DOH should be exiting tomorrow afternoon....   Today my goal is 1800 calories back on track...

skinnygrlwithin on 05/14/2013:
I was wondering where you had disappeared to, I was getting a little worried... I should have assumed it was probably the dreaded state visit. I sent you an email about a possible VT trip this weekend. I know you're super busy but tickets go on sale tomorrow... if you're interested or have questions let me know... hopefully you'll have time to talk it over with Dave! We would love you guys to come!!

thenewMLE on 05/14/2013:
Take a deep breath and look back at your success. Don't let stress sabotage all your hard work - whether it is at your job or for your weight loss. Stress can so easily undo all your efforts. Calm yourself with pleasant thoughts and eat things that make you feel strong. Look ahead to the end of the week and you should make it through with your chin up! And congrats on your continued loss!!

V on 05/14/2013:
Sorry that you have had such a hectic work schedule :( Take care girl <3

(counting calories and working out!)
Weight: 198.6

I ended yesterday around 1800 calories, right on track... I did do some after dinner snacking, which I wanted to avoid, but I was just so dang hungry! I ended up staying late at work yesterday so I was starving by the time I got to the gym so I only did a lifting back 15 minute workout, plus I had my 30 minute power walk at lunch time, I'd give myself a B- for my workout efforts yesterday, not great, but definitely better than nothing...  Today I'm hoping for a slightly better grade and also to keep my calories at 1600-1800.  I have a chiropractor appt after work... I'm not sure if I should keep going or not... Its kind of killing my budget at $20 a pop 3x/week and I'm not sure if its helping or not... Yesterday was the first day in a while that I felt progress in my back/leg, much less pain than the day before... I'm still not 100% but getting closer...

B:  Coffee w/ splenda and almond milk (30) veggie burger (70) arnold thin (100) 200
S:  black berries 40
L:  Smart ones angel hair marinara (230) greek yogurt (140) 370
S:  granola bar (140) 100 calorie pack of microwave popcorn (100) 240
D:  2 cups trader joe's tomato and roasted red pepper soup (200) add in some type of beans (150) 1/2 serving pasta (100) whole wheat club crackers (100) 550

Total Planned:  1400
Goal: 1600-1800

Exercise Planned:  TBD

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 4.6 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 05/08/2013:
Glad your pain is finally easing. Doing well!

skinnygrlwithin on 05/08/2013:
I think maybe the sessions would be good for a week or so longer, but I do understand that's a lot of money to spend.

Puddles on 05/08/2013:
I guess you will have to decide if it is money well spent or a waste. Glad to hear you are feel a little better. Have a great day.

(counting calories and working out!)
Weight: 199.0

Stepped on the scale this morning and there is minimal damage from my recent setbacks... I've also gotten in some decent lifting sessions in the past few days so I don't think its muscle wasting thats keeping my weight in check either...  I'm still not 100% and its a bit frustrating, but I think I had a bit of an epiphany or mental breakthrough while I was driving to work this morning...   For the last 6 months, my main goal has been improving my physical fitness level first and foremost, and obviously trying to lose weight too, but the physical fitness has been the primary goal... Building muscle, increasing endurance etc....    With my current injury, I'm just not up to IMPROVING my physical fitness level like I have been.....   That has been KILLING me... But... here is the epiphany...

If I do what I can exercise wise (power walking, modified lifting weights, etc) I can probably just about maintain my current level of physical fitness-not lose any ground.  If I combine that with healthy eating and counting calories, I can still make progress in losing weight.   So I've been all pissed off, but in reality, I can maintain a good level of fitness, lose weight, and when I'm FINALLY pain free, I will be right where I have been ready to make immediate fitness gains...   All things considered, thinking about the limitations some people have and my overall abilities and level of health, that is not too bad... I think its time to stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to progress!!!     Does this seem like a reasonable line of thinking???

That said, I did a 36 minute power walk in a BEAUTIFUL tulip filled park yesterday and then did a moderate legs lifting routine at the gym.  I also counted calories and ended about 1800 calories... Right on track!   Today's plan is to get some form of workout in-I'm hoping for a lunch time powerwalk and then lifting after work, and to count calories...

B:  coffee w/ almond/coconut milk (30) and veggie burger (140) on arnold thin (100) 270
S:  strawberries 40
L:  Trader Joe's baked eggplant parmesan meal (270) greek yogurt (150) 420
S:  cashews (200) granola bar (140) 340
S:  100 calorie pack of microwave popcorn 100
D:  3 slices light toast (135) whipped butter (100) omelet with 2 eggs (150) cheese (60) tomatoes and onions (50) 495

Total Planned:  1665
Goal: 1600-1800

Exercise:  30 minute power walk on my lunch bread-about 2 miles CHECK!

Progress as of today: 10.6 lbs lost so far, only 5 lbs to go!

Tangalyn~ on 05/07/2013:
sounds like a good plan.. have a lovely day!

Puddles on 05/07/2013:

Monday Already???   This weekend was TOO short...   I'm still struggling with pain... It really got to me mentally yesterday as I tried to go for a simple powerwalk and couldn't enjoy it even in PERFECT 75 degree sunny weather as every step was painful... I only made it for 22 minutes... Better than nothing, but not that great... Then of course I self sabotaged and had frozen yogurt, chips and beer last night...

But... I was in a good mood Saturday and I'm feeling in a much better mindset today so that is a good thing... Today is going to be a healthy day!  I will stick to my eating plan and I will workout...

Aw man I am so sorry that your back is still troubling you :( Not to sound bossy like my mom or anything but take it easy until you are feeling 100%..Yeah I really needed that yesterday, pool, kids, good friends and a puppy, I couldn't ask for anything more <3 Have a great evening girly :)

biscottibody59 on 05/06/2013:
Walking (working up to 1.5 hrs twice daily), pelvic tilts and stretching the affected leg after a warm bath/shower against a door jamb all helped while I was recuperating from my back pain/sciatica. I hope yours is short-lived. One of the worst things I've ever been through--sitting was the worst!

It probably took a couple years after, but I realized the walking (while listening to music) probably was the best thing because it distracted me for the long, lengthy time when I wasn't thinking about the pain--very therapeutic.

I saw an orthopedist who recommended surgery if I didn't get better. He didn't put too much faith in my improving/totally healing or that I would exercise. I took the walking, etc seriously after he gave me the green light to exercise unless something changed or I got worse--foot drop for instance. I honestly couldn't imagine it getting worse for crying out loud!

Since you've been through this before, you probably know your limitations--hang in there! I'm sending you good vibes that you'll recover back to your usual activities soon!

(counting calories and working out!)
Weight: 197.6

I counted calories yesterday-ended a bit high at 1975, but at least I got things under control... I got in about a 20 minute power walk at work, but I just didn't have it in me to go to the gym last night... I was EXHAUSTED and my lower leg was having shooting pains from my nerve issue... Its funny,  my back feels much better but my leg is still giving me issues... I haven't weighed myself in a few days, but I just feel "looser" like all the muscle I've worked so hard to build up is not tight... I MUST get back to lifting immediately!!!  After the chiropractor today I WILL go to the gym!!!  I WILL lift weights...   No major weekend plans so I'm hoping for a healthy, relaxing and fun weekend!!

B:  banana (80) arnold thin and veggie burger (180) green tea (0) 260
S:  granola bar 130
L:  same salad as last night at dinner 500
S:  fiber 1 brownie (90) cheese stick (60) blackberries (40) 190
D:  2x scrambled eggs w/ a little cheese (180) 2 slices whole wheat toast (180) whipped butter (50) 410

Total Planned: 1490
Goal: 1600-1800

Did you end up getting my email yesterday??

JBGirl on 05/03/2013:
Please report back when you get in from the gym! I want to know what exercises you did. I also have some nerve pain, and gentle yoga classes have helped me so much.

I was happy to hear that your back is getting better. Its a real bummer when we cant do what we want. Keep up the good work you are doing well. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 05/03/2013:
Take it easy if your leg hurts, you don't want to hurt it more. I notice a difference when I go just a week w/o doing muscle work.

V on 05/03/2013:
OMG I can't wait for my weekend to start!! I hope you have an awesome 2 days off <3

horn_of_plenty on 05/04/2013:
even though you think your calories are high at 1975, you probably will not gain weight from that at all. it is good sometimes to have a high calorie day, i feel it keeps your metabolism high.

horn_of_plenty on 05/04/2013:
my legs are not behaving either. lately i try to get cardio in with swimming, which i have been reintroducing myself to over the past month. The only other time I have really swam was as a kid. I should have paid attention more during all the summer camp swim lessons! haha
