**Saturday**

Yesterday was Saturday otherwise known as "Daddy Take Care Of Us Day".  Every Saturday for the past 5 or 6 years I get up and take care of our girls (now 5 and 7) so that the wife can have some time off.  She usually sleeps in during the winter and goes to garage sales in the spring / summer.  Daddy Take Care of Us Day usually ends around 11am and then we all go out for lunch somewhere together.

It's almost a requirement, Saturday breakfast must contain either bacon or Jimmy Dean sausage.  Breakfast yesterday was Jimmy Dean sausage and an omelette with hamburger and swiss cheese added.  The kids each had 1 birthday party to go to at different times, so we split up for most of the day.  

I took the youngest for lunch and she wanted Taco Bell.  I used to like Taco Bell, but the past few years I just haven't been impressed with anything there.  The youngest doesn't really like the food either, but goes for the cinnamon twists and blue Mtn Dew (mixed with Root Beer).  She opens up her chicken soft taco and eats the insides with a fork.  When we let her have pop, she's been on a kick for the past year where she mixes the flavors, which I think is pretty nasty.  If I do it for her I try to mix things that go together like Sprite and fruit punch, but when she chooses it usually has root beer mixed with something opposite (like blue Mtn Dew).  She drinks it and seems to like it, so I just leave it alone.

Dinner time was when we switched kids and I took the oldest out for dinner.  I love a local restaurant called Dantes.  It's an upper-scale restaurant that serves steaks, pastas, seafood, etc.  It's blackened prime rib is my favorite meat / steak.  We've been there numerous times over the past decade, but the wife can never quite find something that she likes.  Since she isn't fond of the place, we kind of limited the times we went to just my birthday and when we would take my best friend and wife out for their birthdays.  So basically we've been going about 3 times per year for the past few years.  And then my best friend and wife moved, so now it's down to just 1 time per year.  My oldest loves steak so I decided since it was just the two of us, we'd get dressed up and go to Dantes.  The food was good and my daughter was beaming.  She loves getting dressed-up, she loves surprises, and did I mention she loves steak.  

My dinner consisted of blackened prime rib, salad, some bread with roasted garlic spread, loaded baked potato, and some asparagus.

Made it through another day with just water.  I'm not remembering to drink as much as I'd like, probably only about 60oz yesterday.  When I consistently drink around 100oz per day I seem to feel better and tend to keep on track better.

**Sunday**

Breakfast was a small bowl of sugary cereal and milk.  I need to hop in the shower in a few minutes and then get everyone to church.  I've been eating out a lot and think I'm going to go buy a bunch of frozen meals to eat for lunch during the weekdays.  That should save me some time, money, and at least I'll have a clue about how many calories I'm consuming.

Grabbed an 8" sub for lunch, then went shopping for frozen dinners for this next week's lunches. 

Basically spend the rest of the day on the couch watching football.  First games I've watched all year.  Ordered pizza and ate 1/2 of a large pizza by myself.

Only water to drink today.

I don't know if kids ever outgrow that 'mix all sorts of pop together' phase. On the rare occasion that I take my son (he's 16) out and he can get his own pop, he'll mix four or five together...I just don't get it. But he's got to drink it, not me, so...

Ended up going out to eat last night to a chinese buffet restaurant.  Ate quite a bit, but only drank water.  Didn't have any snacks later in the evening.  

Went to the store yesterday and picked up some low-carb Slimfast shakes for breakfast.  I'm not usually a fan of breakfast, but figure if I have these sitting in my mini-fridge near my office, I can just grab one in the morning.

Kids and wife have the day off from school today, so will probably take part of the day off myself and spend with them.  It's even supposed to get up to a balmy 41F today, which is the highest temperature its been in a few weeks.

Will work today on trying to just drink water (no pop).

I went and reread a bunch of my entries from when I first started here at DD back in 2003.  Reading the first half of the year was motivating and then seeing what happened the last half of the year was just depressing.  2003 I started out at 250lbs, was down in the 190s by Summer, but then regained to 240 by the end of the year again.  I'd like to replay the first half of 2003 and this time not make the same mistakes.

A couple of close friends are going on an Alaskan cruise in September and asked if we were interested.  I'm not a big fan of being couped up in one place for that long, but I do love the food offered.  The wife loves an excuse to get dressed up (formal dinners), so we're going to go.  The cruise gives me something to look forward to and a goal weight and date.  While I'd like to be 199 by summer, I'd settle for 199 by the cruise.

UPDATE 11:30pm
- Lunch was sushi & some chinese food
- Dinner was some chicken fingers and fries
- had a 1/2 turkey & havarti sandwich for late night snack
- only water to drink

hello, i got busy yesterday and didnt get a chance to say hi and welcome to DDs :) mountain dew was one of my biggest problems for the longest time, i no longer drink it at all, only on very rare very special occasions, good luck with all of ur goals, i look forward to hearing more from u :) have a great day!

I started drinking seltzer water and really like it. Sometimes, that is the only thing that gets me drinking water. My mother-in-law likes the flavored seltzer - that might be a good alternative to soda. You have definitely proven that you can lose the weight! I've very impressed! Good luck!

Hey - I remember when you used to be one here. I've back-slid a bit too, but I just look at it as a "phase". Trying to shoot for healthier habits FOR LIFE and for the most part I do pretty well. You can, too. Cruise is good motivation. Good luck hope to see posts often.

Mountain Dew.  That's usually my biggest problem with keeping the weight on.  That sweet golden nectar.......  I don't know if it's the sugar, caffeine, carbonation, or taste that keeps drawing me back.

This year I decided to start off by just attempting one thing at a time.  A couple weeks ago I decided to give up the caffeine portion.  I've still been drinking tons of pop, just nothing with caffeine, mainly root beer and Sprite.  The first several days without caffeine were a little tough and I've missed not being able to drink Mtn Dew.

Yesterday I decided to start replacing the pop with water.  We'll see how that goes.

UPDATE 1pm
- Orange-cranberry muffin for breakfast.  
- Quiznos small sandwich and cup of broccoli cheese soup.  
- Only water to drink so far.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 87.2 lbs to go!

Welcome back! My husband used to be a huge Mountain Dew addict. Then someone told him that it has brominated vegetable oil in it. He kicked the habit pretty quickly (he also kicked caffeine and has been relatively caffeine free for years now). Good luck with the water intake!

I think that cutting out all that sugar will make a big difference not only to your weight but also to your health. All that pop is like asking for diabeties. Good luck!!

You'll be amazed at how much of a difference giving up the pop will make! Not an easy thing to do, I'm sure, but you'll be so happy you did it once you kick the habit!

I am not a cruise lover, but an Alaskan cruise is another story. That I would definitely do after loving the inland ferry which is pretty much like a cruise ship. Those cruises and the one you're going to take, stop at the cities on the route and you're able to get off the ship and walk around. Some of of those towns are really interesting. You have something nice to look forward to.

I've been eating and drinking anything and everything lately.  My head feels "foggy" and I feel tired even after a good amount of sleep.

Going to try to drop the soda pop again and replace it with water.  

Started the morning off with a Slimfast shake and am working on my first bottle of water right now.

Yesterday was our early Christmas dinner party.  It was a non-traditional family get together with crab legs, shrimp, clams, etc.  I had been looking forward to the food, but knew I'd most likely overindulge.  I had an omelette with sausage and cheddar cheese for breakfast and just skipped lunch to kind of make up for what was going to be my big dinner.  I did end up eating quite a bit for dinner, but not as much as I usually would have.  I had a couple of small baked potatoes, about 8 crab legs, a small dinner salad, 4 or 5 shrimp, and a handful of fried clams.  I drank water with the meal instead of the pop or sparkling juices and I didn't have any of the chocolate truffles that were being passed around.  It wasn't the best of days, meal-wise, but it was a lot better than usual.

Today I again had some sausage for breakfast, for some reason I've had a craving for Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage lately.  Lunch was some mac-n-cheese.  Dinner time I really wanted to go out to eat.  The wife was also tired and more than willing to go out.  Unfortunately when I mentioned it to the girls, neither of them wanted to go out for dinner.  So instead of pushing them and dealing with them at the restaurant, we just found some stuff in the cupboards.  Soup for them and a couple bacon tomato sandwiches for me.  I was craving a nice greasy pepperoni pizza and thought I'd order one later at night, but got busy doing stuff and forgot about it.

Still not drinking a lot of water.

Tomorrow is "daddy takes care of us" day, so I'll probably make bacon / eggs / pancakes for breakfast.

No pop, no snacks.  Breakfast was lemon yogurt with granola added.  I was on the road all day and it was real rushed with no real time in between appointments.  I did have time to grab something around 2:30pm if I wanted to eat something in the car, but decided I'd just wait until we were done with the last appointment around 5pm.  For supper I had water, a huge cheeseburger (probably 1/2 lb), and a large order of fries with ranch dip.  When I finally got home around 7pm I made the mistake of opening the fridge and then had to have 5 fresh cherries.  

I don't even know why I opened the fridge when I got home.  It must have been out of habit, as I wasn't hungry after eating plenty for dinner.  Cutting out the pop and snacks has gone fairly well, although I'm only on about day 17 or so this time around.  I'm still eating/overeating plenty at meal times (except for missing lunch today).  The only thing is that I feel "deprived" without sucking down gallons of Mtn Dew and eating chips/cookies/candy/etc.  I know that feeling "deprived" because of this is just plain stupid, but it's how I feel anyways.  In the greater outlook, there's probably whole families in other less fortunate countries/circumstances who would feel completely "blessed" to have the amount of food that I personally consume on a daily basis.

I was on the road today running between a few different cities several hours apart.  It's pretty much an every week or two trip and I've been doing it for the past 8 years.  It's long and boring.  This is the time that I usually eat so much junk and drink so much pop just to try to make it through the day and / or stay awake while driving.  During the drive I usually listen to talk radio and books on CD.  I usually see some deer and occasionaly see other animals, including bald eagles and a couple of times some moose.  Today I saw a large male bighorned sheep feeding right by the highway and later on saw a herd of 10 or so bighorned sheep again by the highway feeding on whatever grass they could get at under the snowpack.  I also saw several deer, thankfully none tried hopping out in front of me today.

As long as I don't screw up too much, I should see the 240's again sometime in the next week.  I was actually in the 240's before Halloween this year whileeating snacks and drinking pop.  Then came Halloween and we had a couple of huge bags of candy left over because of a less than stellar turnout of kids this year.  So I started eating probably about 15 of those snack size candy bars each day, along with other junk and that's how I gained about 15 more pounds in a little over a month.  The pounds can add on quickly at the weight I'm at, but thankfully the initial 20-30 pounds can come off pretty quickly too.  My weight easily fluctuates several pounds one way or the other just depending on what I'm doing.

Alright, now for my dreaming.......  With a little luck and not too many screwups, I'd like to see:

245lbs by Jan 1st
229lbs by Feb 1st
219lbs by March 1st
209lbs by April 1st
199lbs by May 1st

Anything after dipping into the 190's I'll have to play be ear.  The last time I was below 200 was in May of 2003.  Of course then I gained back to the 250's again.  Then lost down to 215 again in 2004.  Being below 200 felt really good in 2003.  I remember it well and sitting at 195 felt comfortable.  I have my "goal" listed as 175 on the tracking bar, but doubt that I'll actually be motivated enough to get down that low.  Being in the 190's felt good and looked good enough that I wasn't completely ashamed to go swimming without a shirt on.  I know that getting down below the 190's would take a lot of work and exercise that I doubt I'll be willing to put forth.

I've been doing good at cutting out the snacks and pop.  I've curtailed my eating to just meal times and we've been doing better about not going out to restaurants as much.  Now what I eat at meal times is still excessive, but at least it's restrained to only 3 times a day.

I haven't been able to get back on massive amounts of water, but have been drinking water with my meals.  I've stayed away from drinking other things even if they're no/low calorie, because I'm pretty much an all or nothing type person.  As soon as I start straying I usually just totally fall off the wagon.

Last night was a little bit of a test.  It was my daughter's school Christmas program.  My parents were able to make it to watch her also.  I was just planning on going home afterwards, but my parents brought up our family "tradition" of going to Dairy Queen after things like that.  I told them we were just going to go home, but then changed my mind a couple seconds later.  So they took our 2 daughters ahead to DQ and we took our time getting over there.  Once there, they were already partly done with the ice cream, so I only had to stare at ice cream for about 10 minutes.  To tell the truth it wasn't really a big deal, it really wasn't all that tempting.......maybe I was more tired than I thought.  Although now that I'm typing this, I'd pretty much kill for an M&M Blizzard.

Nothing for breakfast this morning.  PB&J sandwich for lunch.  Very large bacon cheeseburger and fries for dinner.
