(120oz water,no snacks,no reg.pop, 3 meals per day)
Weight: 247.2

85 days to go....

Just finished off my first bottle of water.

B - scrambled eggs and a couple biscuits

L - fried sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut

*** pm update ***

D - very very large salad with all of the fixings (eggs, fried chicken, bread, tomatoes, cheese, black olives, and plenty of blue cheese dressing) and a Diet Pepsi

No regular pop, no snacks, 3 meals, and I'm still working on the water. I just finished my 3rd 24oz bottle, only 2 more to go.

Day 4 has gone pretty well. As long as I make it to the 2 week point without any screw-ups, everything should be fine. That's what it seems to take for me to get used to a new change. I think it was about that long for me to get used to having water and / or ice tea with meals. For the first couple weeks it was a conscious decision each time, but then it just became normal and I don't even think about it now. Hopefully the not snacking will just become "normal" too in a couple of weeks.

I don't know if drinking 120oz of water in a day could ever become "normal", but you do kind of get used to it after awhile. Sunday's my hardest day to get a decent amount of water intake. I usually sleep until about 8 or 9am, go to church, then go out to eat for lunch. That usually means that I get home around 1-2pm and probably haven't had more than 12 ounces of water. Trying to cram another 100+ ounces in before bedtime is usually pretty tough.

My wife knows that I've been off regular pop since the 1st of January, but I haven't mentioned my change to not snacking to her yet. I usually like to give it a whirl first to see if it's going to "stick" before mentioning it to her (or others).

Progress as of today: 15.8 lbs lost so far, only 47.2 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/07/2007:
i see you are doing 3 meals, no snacks. i wouldn't be able to take that diet...why have you chosen no snacks? then again, some people can do it.. in particular, my mom is always telling me I don't need to snack so often. however, it usually curbs your appetite, if you snack correctly. your body might benifit from snacking on healthy carrots/celery/tomatoes inbetween meals since it looks like you don't eat them during meals!

graindart on 04/07/2007:
Horn of Plenty, It just comes down to simplicity for me. I'm not suggesting it for others, but it works for me. I can remember to just grab something first thing in the morning, then all I have to remember is to only eat at 2 designated times, lunch and dinner. I've tried changing everything at once before and I end up failing and just giving up. Since I'm only making small changes, it's really easy to follow......drink water and only eat 3 meals. I have total respect for those who can successfully change all of their bad habits at once, but it just doesn't seem to work for me. So I'll just change 1 thing at a time. It'll be a longer process, but hopefully I'll just get used to each step and not feel like I'm constantly failing at something.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/08/2007:
wow, i really like your explanation of why you are taking the diet approach you have chosen. i like how you are taking one step at a time...very logical and i know you can do it!

86 days to go....

Just finished a Slimfast for breakfast and have about 20 ounces of water completed for the morning.

** pm update **

B - Slimfast

L - hamburger in a bun with slice of ham and pineapple ring

D - spaghetti with sauce / sausage, couple slices of bread

Finished about 90-100 oz of water, will try to get 1 more bottle in before I head off to bed. No pop, no snacks, only ate 3 meals at mealtimes. Not a bad 3rd day.

Progress as of today: 14.6 lbs lost so far, only 48.4 lbs to go!

87 days to go......

Sitting here with a bottle of water and a Slimfast for breakfast.

Yesterday went pretty well. I ate plenty, but just limited it to the 3 meal times. I wasn't hungry in between, but I kept going for a snack out of habit every time I passed the kitchen. It wasn't even a conscious desire, I didn't think about it, I just opened the fridge or went to grab something out of a cupboard. Thankfully I remembered before I ate any of the items.

The day countdown is until the 1st of July, give or take a day due to my quick counting. It always seems to help me having a set goal / date to work towards. The in-laws are coming up for the yearly visit sometime in July and we also have a mini-vacation planned to Edmonton Mall in mid July. I'd like to be able to go to the water park in the mall without feeling as self conscious about my weight. My goal is to be as close to 200lbs as possible by then. I'd settle for just being in the 220's though. Technically I'd only need to lose 21 more lbs to slide into the high 220's. That's just under 2 lbs per week, which should be easily do-able as long as I stay on track.

As for work, I'm kind of taking this week easy. I've turned down several job orders and haven't really got much accomplished as of yet. I kind of needed to just have some down time, as the past several weeks have been hectic. The money's been good, but there's more to life than the money. Speaking of which, I think I'll stop wasting my time at this keyboard and go play with my kids for a little bit......

** pm update **

B - Slimfast

L - a few tamales w/ cheese and onions

D - went to a buffet - large salad, brisket, ribs, stuffing, baked beans (I actually ate less than normal at the buffet, as I skipped dessert this time.)

No pop, no snacks, ate food only at the 3 meals. Just finished off the 120 oz of water for the day. All in all, a pretty decent day.

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 50.6 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/05/2007:
Good job on stopping short of the snacks. Just speaks to how much we are creatures of habits, doesn't it? Ah, but new habits can be re-established. Love your goal of being unself-conscience at the waterpark.

WorkingIt2 on 04/06/2007:
You are right..there is more to life than money....and there is also more to life than food! Your goal sounds great, and every day you do it, you get better and better! Keep up the great work!

Weight: 252.0

88 days to go.....

I've been in a stand still for the past few months. The only thing I've been able to successfully accomplish is getting off regular pop.

It's now time to start being successful in other food areas. I'm going back to my old standby..... trying for 120 oz of water per day, no snacks, no regular pop, 3 meals per day.

I'm still not feeling like doing much in the way of exercise. I broke my tailbone about a month ago and it still hurts whenever I do much of anything. To be honest, I really wouldn't feel like exercising even if I hadn't broken my tailbone.

Sitting here this morning with a bottle of water and a can of Slimfast (breakfast, since I don't feel like making anything).

B - can of Slimfast

**** pm update ****

L - large can of soup and slice of bread w/butter

D - mashed potatoes, asparagus, sausage, sauerkraut, biscuits

I've only got about 80 ounces of water in today......hopefully do better tomorrow. No snacks, no regular pop..... not bad for a start.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 52 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/04/2007:
Getting off regular pop - Way To Go! That's a big accomplishment. Ouch! on the tailbone. If exercise is not a big attraction for you - why not shoot for a 15 minute walk every day? Or just 15 minutes every other day of SOMEthing exercise-like? Would your kids like to walk with you? Would you be able to play ball or frisbe with the kids? I see they are very young (1 & 3) on your bio - so maybe just "chasing them around" in the yard for a little while??? Hang in there.

WorkingIt2 on 04/04/2007:
Exercise is work, so it is only natural that we wouldn't 'want' to exercise. However, when you do start to exercise and you start making those accomplishments (15 minutes then 20 then 30, intensity increases, endurance, health, better sleep..etc.) that is when we start to fall in love with it and enjoy it and miss it when we can't do it. But, it takes doing it, starting somewhere, anywhere, in order to reach that point. When I started walking little over a year ago, I could only walk half a mile in 25 minutes. But I kept going, kept moving, kept trying. Some days were better than others, I must say. Trying to move 213lbs on a 5'2" frame was HELL. Here I am, 60lbs lighter, and I can now fast-walk a mile in 13 minutes.

Look, don't worry if you don't want to exercise right this very moment. If all you can concentrate on right now are your food goals, then do that for a while until you are confident in your ability with that task. And if you have a day or two that you DO feel like taking a little walk, marching in place, etc. then go ahead and give yourself permission to do so and to experience the rush of accomplishing THAT task for THAT day. Don't worry about the past or the next day or the future. Rushing to the future without experiencing the present robs you of some very cool rewards!

I hope your tailbone feels better soon! And I wish you the best!

I did better with water yesterday, about 75 ounces. Didn't do any exercise and didn't watch what I ate. I don't tend to remember that I want to be more selective with the things I'm eating. I need something to remind me.......maybe I'll just walk around with a big piece of duck-tape on my mouth. At least then I'd remember.

If I can get back in the habit of posting on here daily, it'll at least keep my mind on working towards a goal.

Progress as of today: 7.8 lbs lost so far, only 50.2 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/08/2007:
Hmmm... yes, I've often thought about walking around with a duct-taped mouth as well. How about a piece of sugar-free gum in your mouth? At least you'd have to take it out before you put anything else in, so that should buy a you a couple of seconds! GG swears by it, and she sticks to 900 calories a day - she must have SOME trick!

I just can't seem to get started with eating correctly or exercising. The only thing that I've had good success with is kicking the regular pop. I haven't had a regular pop since January 1st. I still on occasion have a diet pop. I think the best tasting diet pop for me has to be the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. It might have something to do with me never having tasted the regular version so I really don't have anything to compare it to. It tastes really sweet and doesn't have any weird "diet" aftertaste to it.

Water intake has been pretty bad for the past month or so. I need to work on that, start watching what I eat, and start some type of exercise.

Progress as of today: 5.6 lbs lost so far, only 52.4 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/07/2007:
You and your pop. I know what you mean - the only diet one I like is Lime Coke, and I've never had the real version of that one either so maybe that's why. Have you tried it?

greengirl on 03/07/2007:
i always find that diet drinks taste sweeter than the ones with all the sugar in!!!

WorkingIt2 on 03/08/2007:
I LOVE diet dr pepper...love it. Congrats on getting off the regular pop!! As far as motivation, sometimes we have to CREATE our own by just jumping in with both feet and doing it! Have a great day =)

Giving up the regular pop a month ago was a good first step and I haven't had any slipups. It's resulted in the loss of 8 lbs in the first month which is a good steady start. The next step is getting back to a water intake of around 120 oz per day again. After that I'll have to tackle the food issues, cutting down on the snacking / candy and late night 4th meals of the day. I suppose after that, working in some exercise would be beneficial also.

I wish I could just successfully change everything at once, but know that if I tried, I'd probably be "failing" at something almost every day, which would probably drive me to just giving up again. At least taking "baby steps" makes me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something successfully. The main negative about changing things gradually is that the scale also goes down gradually.

I was looking back at prior journal entries over the years and it looks like it's been about 1.5 years since I was last in the 240's. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to weighing 249.

Oh well, baby step changes for now with the hope that one day I'll just wake up and have a desire to get more serious and bump up the pace.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 50 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 02/02/2007:
Hey! I really like your approach to this. No regular pop for a month is great and you have lost 8 pounds just with that??? WOW! The next steps you havae planned sound sensible and effective, too! I can't wait to see what February holds for you! Have a Blessed Day! Holly

borntocry on 02/02/2007:
Oh wow! You are doing so well!

I know what you mean about setting too many goals and then "failing" at one of them every day. I've done that too and it's so demotivating. Now I just try to constantly remind myself that I'm doing the best I can. And as long as that's true, I'm happy!

Can't wait to see your next entry with the "249" on top!

WorkingIt2 on 02/02/2007:
That is fantastic that you've stayed away from the regular pop. A gal at my office has done the same and lost 8lbs in January and I think that is wonderful. Your kidneys, liver and gal bladder probably appreciate it as well lol. Have a great day and enjoy the journey!

greengirl on 02/02/2007:
Sounds like you have a great plan. You are probably wise not to make too many changes at once. good luck with your endeavours :)

(120 oz water)
Weight: 251.8

I've been pretty much eating whatever I felt like for the past month. The water intake has been pretty bad lately. The only good point that I've stuck with since the 1st of January is not having any regular pop. I've had 5 or 6 cans of diet pop over the past month, but no Mtn. Dew or other regular pop.

I'm thinking of limiting the times I eat to just 3 meals per day with no snacks and nothing after 7pm. I'll still eat pretty much anything I want, but at least I'll cut out the snacking inbetween meals.

Progress as of today: 6.2 lbs lost so far, only 51.8 lbs to go!

WorkingIt2 on 01/28/2007:
Goog job on the no regular pop! That is a huge thing to be proud of!

greengirl on 01/28/2007:
I cut out the eating between meals, and I found it made a tremendous difference. Keep up the good work!!

Moody on 01/28/2007:
I think it's great to make small changes, get a grip on them, then add another small change..They all add up! Good for you for cutting out the regular pop!! Keep it up!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/28/2007:
as long as you're not starving between meals, cutting out snacking may be a good idea for you! it's all about you and what works. Most people feel that snacking helps because it evens out blood sugar levels. however, you have to plan those snacks. also, when snacking, meals and snacks should be no more than 3 hours apart. meaning, if you eat at 8am, you definitely should have something at 10:30 or 11. something, a snack, could be like an egg or cheese stick. sorry if this didn't help.

Day 2 with no pop / cookies / candy / chocolate / chips / etc. Had just over 120 ounces of water intake for the day. There were a few headaches during the day, probably from the lack of caffeine. Off to work....
