No pop, no snacks, nothing after 7pm, not too good on water intake. Lunch was KFC buffet. Dinner was a hamburger, beans, and salad.

Today went fine. I almost had a couple of pops today (but didn't). I almost accidentally grabbed one with dinner over at a friend's house. You just get so used to grabbing a pop that you don't really think about it. I really wanted an A&W root beer with lunch; the KFC shares a building with A&W.

77 days until cruise

Starting again as heavy as ever. My wife sprung a surprise on me for my birthday......a week long cruise. Only 77 days before we set sail. I need to shed a few pounds by then.

No pop, a couple of snacks, not much water intake, nothing after 7pm. Lunch was a big plateful of chinese food. Supper was a big plate of spaghetti & ravioli. Not the best day, but I did make it a whole day with no pop, which is amazing.

Life's been good......except for the weight. It doesn't tend to bother me, but I'd still like to get back down to at least below 200 again. I'm starting another diet once again on 8/18/2004. I've been putting it off for awhile, like the whole summer. I didn't want to start this weekend, because we were going camping with a bunch of friends and didn't want the hassle. Plus, with this group of friends, I'm actually the lightest male there. Going through the weekend, I did get a look at my future if I don't nip this weight gain in the bud. A couple of the guys are in the 350 range. They still had plenty of fun and everything, but we had a couple of jetskis and they basically had to ride by themselves most of the time, unless giving a ride to someone in the <100 lbs range.

It's kind of weird, the weight doesn't usually bother me and I don't think that my friend's weight tends to bother them either. We're all in our early 30's and pretty active at get-togethers, but we all also have terrible eating habits and are mainly sedentary during the week at our jobs.

Oh well, back to the future diet discussion. My wife's parents are up from Kansas for a couple week vacation and they leave early in the day on 8/18/2004, so I figure that's a good day to start the new diet.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do this time. I've had good success with a few different ways, but I'm not sure how much misery I'm willing to endure ;)

I do know that I'll be going with no pop, no snacks, over 100 ounces of water, and nothing after 7pm. I guess the only thing I have to decide is if I'm going to go low-carb or not. I guess I've got a couple of days to figure out my initial plan of attack. With the surge of low-carb additions to some of the local restaurant menus, maybe it'd be easier this time to try low-carb......

Day 4 of Atkins done and over with. I still have a low level headache. I've really enjoyed the couple of Chef's Choice frozen dinners I've had over the past couple of days. Depending on the meal, they only have 9-11 carbs, so it's still doable and come in at only 20 carbs for the whole day. I just wish they were a little cheaper. I've only found them at the local Walmart and they run just shy of $4.00. Today I went and picked up a few more to try and grabbed some Budget Gourmet frozen entrees for my wife. The Budget Entrees were only $1 each. Oh well, I guess the Chef's Choice are still cheaper then going out.

I took in less calories than I would have liked. It was a busy day with lots of running around, so I had to take what I could get (without blowing my diet). Well, day 3 of Atkins is in the books.

To answer your questions Breakaway, I don't really like the low carb diet. I'll probably only stick with it for a few weeks, it's definitely NOT how I want to live my life. Although to be fair, I am only starting in the first stage, induction, which is the strictest. Having less than 20 carbs per day is almost impossible for me. I've had a constant low level headache for the past couple days, which I'm guessing has something to do with sugar / carb withdrawals. I don't usually get headaches, so this part is pretty annoying. As for the bad breath, I've only been doing it for 3 days, so we'll see. My breath's probably not as minty fresh as usual though, because I've had to quit chewing gum. I don't know how many carbs a stick of regular gum has, but a stick of Extra sugar-free gum has 2 grams of carbs. With only having 20 available, they're much too precious to waste on a stick of gum. After 3 days on Atkins, would I recommend it to anyone? Not really. The scale going down is nice, but I'm feeling pretty tired of the restrictions and I'd kill for some pasta, bread, and potatoes. If my weight plateaus for a few days, that might be enough to kick me off this diet. I don't mind being miserable for a short time if the weight's dropping, but I'd rather eat the things I like and lose weight slowly then be miserable for more than a few weeks.

Today went a little easier than yesterday, mainly because of going to Hardees to try the low carb burger. Basically they just wrapped the sandwich with lettuce instead of buns, cut down on the ketchup (I had them hold it altogether), and cut out the pickles. It really was pretty good and it only totalled 5 carbs. Ever since they've changed to the "thickburgers", I've loved going there again. I'm almost contemplating going there daily until I get sick of it, which would probably be about a week.

Even though today went easier than yesterday, I'm still not real enthused about eating so much meat, eggs, and cheese. Saying that seems pretty weird to me though, because I usually have to have meat with every meal anyways. But, usually it's with a boatload of carbs at the same time......I LOVE pasta, bread, and potatoes! I'd kill for some fettucine alfredo, french fries, or fresh baked rolls right now! Oh well, maybe in a month or two......

It's funny how 2 or 3 months can both seem long and short at the same time. If you're working towards something you desire a few months off, it seems like it takes forever. Yet if there's something you're dreading and / or need to prepare for, it seems like it's here in a relatively short period of time.

Your weight is just falling off. How are you liking the low carb? DOes it make you tired or give you bad breath? My freind is doing it and he hates it but he likes the weight loss so he will continue but he says it makes him very tired and dizzy and gives him terrible bad breath. Well, my first day on the Atkins diet. I made it through the day alright. It started easy, but by the end of the day I'm sitting here kind of tired of meat and cheese already. In the induction phase you're not supposed to go over 20 carbs per day. I don't know how you guys / gals on Atkins do it. Everything that I look at has mega carbs. I'm not ready to give up after only 1 day though, so I'll be at it again tomorrow. I'm starting to think that it's not the lack of carbs that will cause me to lose weight, but the fact that I can't find any food to eat with low enough carbs or any food that I'm not sick of eating (meat,cheese,eggs). Who knows, maybe I'll adjust and like it......

Over the past few years I've got in the habit of going out for most of my (and my family's) meals. It's been a combination of busy lifestyles, constant house remodeling, and the fact that my wife doesn't like to cook. Today I went and bought an Atkins book and another low-carb cookbook. I'm thinking of trying to incorporate some of the things from these books and try to eat out less.

I've been rethinking things on when to weigh myself. There's pluses and minuses to each way. Having not weighed myself for weeks has kept me from obsessing about my daily up or down movements. However, when I weigh myself daily it's on my mind more and I'm usually more careful with what I eat / drink during the day. I think that I'm going to switch back to weighing myself nightly again for awhile.

No pop, no snacks, nothing after 7pm, 100 ounces of water. Cereal for breakfast. Lunch was an "orchard salad" at Elmer's. An orchard salad is a large serving of lettuce, walnuts, blue cheese crumbles, turkey, cranberries, granny smith apple slices, and a hot bacon dressing. (I also had some blue cheese dressing with it.) Frozen meal for dinner.
