(Maintenance - healthy eating - toning/strength)
Weight: 133.0

Good morning lovely ladies!   I'm not quite 100% yet but very close.  Although it's 10 days till we leave for the US I've already got my suitcase down from the loft and will start packing.  I'll be buying new jeans, cords, some black dress trousers while I'm there, so I won't be packing a lot since all my jeans are loose on me.

132.6 this morning.  Practising saying 'no thanks, I'm full' in preparation for the upcoming trip.

About to do my workout soon:

  • 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • bike for undetermined time

Menu:

B:  porridge and tea

L: 2 eggs, polenta fried in oil, yogurt

S:  2 satsumas (really wanted some choccie, so had a bite size Cadbury - 55 cals)

D:  veg curry & rice, salad, drink

S:  hot choc, packet of baked crisps

Lots of teas and water

TOTAL:  1329  1384

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 12/03/2011:
You have done so well!

hollybelle on 12/03/2011:
I am a little under your starting weight right now and I'd love to be at your current weight. We are about the same age (I am 57)....it makes me think I can do it. The lowest I have been in years is 148-145?? My heighest was around 175. It makes me think maybe I can do it.

V on 12/03/2011:
I am sure you are getting pretty excited about your trip :) Practice makes perfect Annie :) have a good day!!

Maria7 on 12/03/2011:
Always fun to be getting ready in anticipation of a nice trip. Also your shopping for smaller clothes should be fun! :-D

Just42day on 12/03/2011:
You're doing great! Loose jeans must feel wonderful! Good for you!

Good day girls!  This scale is wacko!  Yesterday morning it said 131. 2 and this morning it said 134.something.  I know it's water fluctutations especially with drinking extra fluids and taking decongestants, but still......

Hope you all are doing well.  I always appreciate your comments!

Still dreich outdoors so here's a photo of a pretty day from my front porch.  I edited the photo to look like a painting

Workout:
First full workout in a week due to this stupid cold!  Cough is lingering but getting better.
  • 45 mins cardio
  • weights
  • lower body toning
  • abs
Menu - keeping the cals down until we leave on the 13th.

B:  porridge & tea
L:  2 eggs, polenta fried in oil, 1 satsuma
S:  1/2 pomegranate, grapes
D:  veggie chili & rice, salad, drink
S:  melba toast or dried apricots, hot choc

Lots of teas and water

TOTAL:  1308

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 12/02/2011:
Oh, WOW, that BEAUTIFUL!!! What a gorgeous front porch view you have...do you live in a waterfront condominium? Don't be discouraged...it could merely be sodium retention...which takes about 3 days sometimes to go away...drinking lots of water and staying away from high sodium products usually helps me. Hope you have a good day. :-)

Umpqua on 12/02/2011:
Great exercise and food plan! I wouldn't worry about the fluctuations, you're doing great.

Good day girls!  Thanks for all your comments on my photos and your support!

Feeling okay, just that lingering cough.  Been in the city all day shopping.  Very frustrating.  I wanted some corduroy trousers - one size was too small, the next bigger size was too big!  I did find a different type of trouser similar to what my hubby just bought himself - water repellant with fleece lining for wearing on the plane and for going for walks in the cold in Michigan.

I'm going to wait to buy jeans, corduroys and some other trousers when we go to Michigan.  It's a lot cheaper anyway with the exchange rate.

We wandered through a German style street market before leaving the city and I wasn't even tempted to buy any of the cakes, or sweets.

I guess my workout was lots of walking including up a few hills.

I didn't do great on the food but I guess I won't stress about it as the scale said 131.2 this morning.

B:  Porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk

S:  Stopped for a cuppa tea but somehow ended up getting a bacon roll (buttered roll with meaty bacon).  I didn't check the calories on it first and totally underestimated!  It was 542 cals!

L:  Sweet chilli noodles and chicken breast - 546 cals  Pint of beer:  185

D:  small bowl of pumpkin soup, toast with pbj, grapes, drink

S:  2 chocolates (yea, like I needed those!) 110 cals

TOTAL:  2156

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

lolla on 12/01/2011:
I love the pictures too!!! What a wonderful place! Thanks!

liza36 on 12/01/2011:
It is frustrating to be inbetween sizes. Hopefully you will find some things in Michigan that will fit. Nice job on resisting the sweets!

Umpqua on 12/01/2011:
I bet that bacon roll was super yummy, I like anything bacon! Don't even get me started on the pants sizes, I have so much trouble finding things that fit well and look good, and my short height makes it that much more difficult. I hope you'll have better luck in the States - maybe a petite shop? I usually end up buying petites or juniors so they're not up to my neck!

legcramps on 12/01/2011:
Good job resisting the German style street market! I would have been all over that! Guess that's why I haven't reached my goal ;)

Umpqua on 12/01/2011:
Ah, you've got almost 3 inches on me. I forget not everyone is a shorty ;)

Maria7 on 12/01/2011:
Wow you are BELOW your goal! Congratulations! :-D

FoodAddict on 12/01/2011:
Thanks for explaining what a major is - it's appreciated :)Hope you get completely well soon <3

moogy on 12/01/2011:
I found it interesting about the exchange rates, our dollar is worth slightly more than the American dollar and has been for several months, a sure sign that their finances are not getting any better. Not that I want our dollar to be worth less but it would be good if it helped the American dollar which in turn helps other economies. You will probably have more choice in the US anyway grannyannie! Sorry you don't want to swop, maybe I could come and visit, that's another option. As I was born in England, I have dual citizenship:) Ha!

moogy on 12/01/2011:
Oh, and of course, now I am yearning for a bacon butty!!! Hoping that won't stay with me all day:) LOL

grannyannie - Wednesday Nov 30, 2011
(Maintenance - healthy eating - toning/strength)
Weight: 133.0

Good day, ladies!  Slept a lot better last night but still lots of coughing during the night.  So tired of whining!  Thanks for all your good wishes!

My philosophy and a quick reply when someone tries to push me to eat something I shouldn't (over the holidays): The 5 or 10 minutes of pleasure I'd get from eating (something fatty, sugary, high cal) isn't nearly as good as the pleasure I get from being this size for 24 hours a day.

Happy St. Andrews Day to all Scots!

Will do some weights this afternoon but won't push myself too much.  I don't think ab crunches or glute lifts will be too draining.

(Did 3 sets of everything instead of the usual 4 - no problem.  Tomorrow back to cardio!)

Liza wanted more photos of where I live, so here's two from today taken from my front porch.  In Scotland this type of day is called 'dreich' (dreary).

Menu:

B:  porridge/raisins/crushed almonds/skimmed milk, tea with milk

L:  pbj on toast, yogurt, packet of baked crisps

S:  fresh pineapple, orange

D:  veggie chili, rice, salad, drink

S:  packet of rice cakes, hot chocolate

Lots of lemon tea, herbal tea, water

TOTAL:  1442

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 11/30/2011:
Wowwwww!!! What a very beautiful view!!! :-D Also...good answer above about the holiday extra treats when you don't want them. Hope you have a good day today. :-D

Good morning, girls!  Just got out of bed and it's after 11.  Was hopeful I'd feel much better today and I probably would if I hadn't coughed all night (drainage, not chest cold)!    I have no idea if I'll feel up to some doing weights or floor exercises later.  But I'll take it easy if body says no.

For something positive I'll try to remember to put something I'm grateful for in my blog every day.

I'm grateful for a loving husband who spoils me rotten.

Two weeks from today we fly to Michigan and will get some hugs from granddaughters!

Menu plan which may change:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  pbj toast, yogurt, skimmed milk

S:  large orange, pineapple

D:  pumpkin soup, homemade bread with lite spread, salad, drink

S:  2 squares of chocolate, clementine

Gallons of tea with lemon, other teas, water, dilute juice - ack I'm drowning in this stuff!

TOTAL:  1362

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 11/29/2011:
Get well soon! I'm excited for your trip back home, I'm sure you can't wait :-)

liza36 on 11/29/2011:
Hugs are the best and something to look forward to! Hope you feel better soon, especially before your trip. Definitely don't overdo it on exercise, it's good you will listen to your body.

~WI~ on 11/29/2011:
Hope you are feeling better soon! A nice hot soak in a tub and a good book sound lovely to me!

moogy on 11/29/2011:
You poor thing, coughing through the night is no laughing matter. I always have to wear a poise pad nowadays, another joy of getting older!!!! I hate the sun, really hate it, unless it is a very cold winter's day, I don't go out in it. I have to take vitamin d tablets because a am such a hermit. I tend to hibernate during the summer, in the dark, wishing it would go away. It is a bit like snow, lovely if you are on holiday, but horrible to actually live in!!

biscottibody59 on 11/29/2011:
Hope you continue to improve and the cough doesn't linger much longer for ya'!

BTW, to your comment about oats--you might want to try some ground flaxseed with your oats--tasty. Also a good source of omega 3 fatty acids. I buy pre-ground for convenience and keep it refrigerated.

Good day girls!  Thanks for your tips and good vibes!  Feeling a lot better today after lazing around all day yesterday.  Still slight sore throat, slighty runny nose and cough, and just general yucky feeling.

A bit too much comfort yesterday with chocolate, whisky and honey.  Nearly 1800 cals on a day of zero exercise of any kind.   Oh well....

Taking it easy today but plan to try a low intensity workout on my exercise bike (20 mins). Following this I'll have a nice soak in a hot bath.  (feeling much better after this!)

Hoping everyone else is well and stays that way!

Menu:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  tuna sandwich, yogurt, baked crisps

S:  1 orange, 2 clementines

D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink

S:  dried apricots or prunes

Massive quantities of tea with lemon, dilute juice or water

TOTAL:  1534

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Kati on 11/28/2011:
I had this experience with roasted sweet potatoes :( ... I don't need chocolates to binge :( I binge on soups easily! Or on fruits. Doesn't matter, my stomach is like a huge black hole.

Maria7 on 11/28/2011:
Try not to overdo...hope you feel better. :-)

Kati on 11/28/2011:
Well, salt, sugar and fat are the most addictive, experts say. I don't have the slightest idea why my body works and reacts so on the contrary. But my cravings are for carbs normally, and carbs trigger binges - apparently, ANY carbs. Veggies are carbs also. And it seems to be more complicated in winter, when it's too cold. I crave hot meals rich in carbs. Maybe to heat up this 30-year-old engine! :)

biscottibody59 on 11/28/2011:
Glad your cold is improving--hope you're back to 100% soon! Take care!

Umpqua on 11/28/2011:
I'm glad you are on the mend, take care!

liza36 on 11/28/2011:
Congratulations on getting to goal!! That's fantastic. I'm sorry you are experiencing your goal weight by being sick, but hopefully it will pass soon.

moogy on 11/28/2011:
I have found that a long soak in a hot deep bath in the cure for many of life's ills. I prescribe one a day for you grannyannie:)

Thanks for your kind words. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Ugh!!  Thought I had successfully fought the cold or whatever it is and was feeling okay until after dinner.  Then the sore throat again, then a cough.  Had a lot of trouble sleeping last night between having trouble swallowing and the sound of gale force winds outside.    Staying in bed for now with my netbook, tv, a book to read (not all at the same time!), a pot of tea with lemon, dilute juice.  Glad I have such a pretty view out of the big windows. Could barely whisper this morning when I woke up and can barely do so now.

No workout today!  Hub has gone into town to church and swimming and said he'll buy me a chocolate treat.

Feeling stressed because I fly in 2 weeks 2 days and just can NOT be ill!

I feel confident I'll be able to deal with the higher calories, just in a period of adjustment now.  When I come back from the US I'll figure out what my maintenance calories are.

Menu:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  pbj sandwich, yogurt, 3 or 4 clementines

S:  chocolate, whisky, honey (not mixed!)  LOL.

D:  curry & rice, salad, drink pumpkin soup, toast, salad, drink

S:  TBD (probably baked crisps)

Massive quantities of tea with lemon, dilute juice

TOTAL:  under 1600 about 1700

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

thinkpositive on 11/27/2011:
Yes stay in bed & take care of yourself. Whatever you have will be gone by then I'm sure! Think positive! I'm counting down the days as well!

biscottibody59 on 11/27/2011:
Get plenty of rest and eat well--hope you get to feeling better soon!

Maria7 on 11/27/2011:
Hopefully you will be feeling MUCH better before flying time. Chocolate bar ought to help some...don't forget chicken broth or chicken noodle soup...my Hubby is a firm believer in having that to help with colds, etc. Get some rest. :-)

hollybelle on 11/27/2011:
Just take care of yourself for now. Take in lots of fluids - like Maria said - chicken soup, tea with lemon is good. The tea has tanic acid (spelling?) and kills bacteria. Plus the lemon does wonderous things and has vitamin C. Also if you can get some zinc tablets or lozenges with zinc that may help. If it persists check with you physician for strep. Strep does have a tendency to appear to go away and then come back (but so do colds). Don't wait too long to check it out. That is what I usully do and then am sorry!

moogy on 11/27/2011:
Oh Oh, didn't quite dodge that one then grannyannie. You know the drill:) I am sending good vibes your way:)

V on 11/27/2011:

(Maintenance - healthy eating - toning/strength)

Good morning girls!  I felt really drained yesterday morning so I bundled up in my chair with my netbook and remote for tv, lots of water, lots of tea with lemon.  After lunch I felt much better, still had extra fluids and by 4pm was able to do my weights and lower body toning. A bit of a sore throat when I awoke this morning, but much better now, still feeling just a bit 'yucky'.  Will do cardio today.

I'm a bit, ok, a lot, afraid to raise my calories very much.  Ended up at 1560 yesterday and will be 1582 today.  My weight loss limits were usually under 1300.  I want to raise the calories slowly, but this morning I weighed 132.2 (probably just fluid loss).  Well, I'll be leavinig for the US in 16 days and then it's all based on my judgement.

St. Columba, St. Margaret's Chapel (12th century), Edinburgh Castle, April 2011

Workout plans:

  • 30 - 45 mins tae bo/jump rope
  • 20 - 30 mins high/medium intensity

Menu:

B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea

L:  tuna sandwich, yogurt

S:  fresh pineapple, pear, clementine (extra vitamin C!)

D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink (haven't increased the portion size yet)

S:  decaf latte, last chocolate star (mmmm)

Lots of water and teas

TOTAL:  1582

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

V on 11/26/2011:
These things take time to sort it all out but I can TOTALLY relate.. Please try not to stress about this too much, I know it is scary but you will be just fine!!

biscottibody59 on 11/26/2011:
Congrats on reaching your goal--you're gonna have a great trip! Hope the cold doesn't take hold on you.

Keep on keepin' on--stay as healthy and injury-free as you can so you can keep going!

Umpqua on 11/26/2011:
Sorry you are feeling sick, but it sounds like you're taking good care of yourself. I also know how difficult the maintenance is. I agree with V not to stress about it and just see what feels right for your body. I had originally set a lower goal weight for myself and my body wanted to settle in the 123-128 range, so that's what I've been maintaining. I need a larger range like that since I fluctuate so much. Keep up the good work!

juztme on 11/26/2011:
Hope you feel better soon :-) And thank you much for your comment

Kati on 11/26/2011:

Maria7 on 11/26/2011:
Beautiful photo of stained glass with picture of Jesus. I hope you get to feeling better. Maybe some chicken noodle soup or just chicken broth might would help. :-)

hollybelle on 11/26/2011:
Good advice from others on the fear of calorie thing. What good will all the changes you have made do if you wind up being afraid of food? You will sort it out. When you come to U.S. where will you visit?

Weight: 133.0

Good morning girls!  Thank you all so much for your congrats and encouragement!    I am 'dead chuffed' ('very pleased' in American English).    As I've said before this is the first time I've actually planned to maintain.  I will always count calories, at least when I'm able to (at home).   I will always workout, both cardio and weights, etc.  When I come back from my birthday trip in March I'll be joining the gym and I'm really looking forward to using the resistance equipment again.  Staying with DD will also keep me in line and motivated, so in 10 years I'll be telling you all about my 70th birthday trip!

I feel like I'm catching a cold and have a slight sore throat and that yucky pre-cold feeling.  Maybe this is because I've been bragging about not having a cold/flu in 3 years?!  I'm hoping this will be the same thing I usually get - I feel like I'm coming down with a cold for a couple of days but it never turns into a full blown cold.  I want to get a flu injection before we go to the US as planes at this time of year are full of sick people.   If I fly when I have a cold my ears will be blocked up for weeks!  I don't want to be around all those babies and toddlers with a cold either.

Today I plan to do my weights and lower body toning (which keeps getting longer and longer as I add more) but skip the cardio.  Plan to rest and drink even more fluids than usual.

My husband brought me congratulatory chocolate yesterday  so that's 165 more delicious calories tacked on to yesterdays.

Menu:

B:  porridge/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea (I've become used to no honey/sugar/artificial sugar on my porridge)

L:  2 eggs, polenta fried in 1 tsp oil, yogurt

S:  banana, large orange

D:  pumpkin curry & rice, salad, drink

S:  sparkling juice, baked crisps

Lots or various teas, extra water with dilute orange/pineapple juice

TOTAL:  1490

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

Kati on 11/25/2011:
Counting calories is not fun, but exercise is!!! :) Happy Maintenance! :)

Umpqua on 11/25/2011:

Good morning girls!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I've hit goal weight!  Woohoo!!!    My waist is 32" but I expect that to change as all this excess skin tightens up.  My fat% according to my 'super scale' has been averaging 23-24%.  As my muscles get bigger and bigger I expect to use different measurements other than pounds.

Going into Glasgow next week to buy a couple of pairs of trousers.  All the trousers I saved to get into when I lost weight are too BIG!  I'll wait until I get to the US to buy jeans and some other trousers, oops, I mean pants in the US.

Feeling a bit low on energy today so I'm taking a break.  I've been working out hard except for those 2 days in Glasgow last week.

I plan to raise my calories to 1400-1500 until we leave for Michigan on the 13th.

Menu:

B:  porridge & tea

L:  2 eggs, polenta, yogurt, satsuma (forgot to count the 1tsp oil yesterday and today!)

D:  soup, homemade bread with pb, salad, drink

S:  hot choc & dried apricots or prunes

Congratulations!!!

Enjoy your break from exercise. You've been working really hard to reach goal before your big holiday trip, so you deserve a day of rest!

I have been working out and using weights for a long time and I have definitely seen good changes with my body. Happy Thanksgiving and congrats on meeting your goal weight! that is incredible! I hope you are enjoying the feeling of hitting goal! Stick with it and you will look even better as you continue to tone! I know you can succeed as long as you stick with it!
