I know this isn't the place for politics, but I am thoroughly depressed and stressed over what happened at noon on Friday.  I reallly fear for the country even though I don't live there any more.  I fear for my granddaughters, my family, my friends.  

Haven't been on the scale.  Need to do that tomorrow morning.  

Since it's Saturday morning and not raining it means we rode our bikes to Villa Chocolat for a treat that I haven't earned.     Photo below. 

I should have gotten up and gone on bike ride with hubby this morning.  Did do 5+ miles to get chocolate though.  Might ride some more later. 

Menu:

B:  toast, yogurt

S:  see pic

L:  crackers and cheese

D:  veg fried rice, bacon, 1 fried egg, and 2 big beers - hmm.... upset about new prez

It will certainly be interesting time for the US. I am sure that Canada will be impacted by some of his decisions but one thing is for sure people survive. Your dessert looks real good enjoy. Once a week no guilt. Have a great day Annie.

I share your feelings about the US. I'm quite afraid, frankly, and hoping I will be proved wrong.

I think having that cake though would definitely help lift up my spirits, though, even if only temporary - WOW!!!

Rode my bike to the gym but it started raining while I was there.  Had my raincoat, but still got my head and shoes soaked.  Skipped my floor exercises at home as I wanted to go straight into the shower. 

Massage this morning.  Bliss. 

Gym workout:

 

Upper body  12 reps x 3 sets each

11 routines (3 - 8 kg dumbbells)


Lower body 10 reps x 1 sets each

Lunges - 5 kg weights

Side lunges - 5 kg weights

squats - 5 kg weights

 

calf lifts - 8 kg weights


Cardio:

Elliptical intervals - 10 mins

Exercise bike -  15 mins

 

treadmill -  10 mins

 

Bike ride:  to gym and back 1.5 miles


Menu:

B:  porridge & raisins, toast, juice

L:  fish cakes and a salad

D:  pork and kale and rice, 1 small beer

S:  plain crackers, rum and coke

 

Lunch:

Look good Annie. Weekend is here beer and run... lol. I am also always on holidays but when I go away I still call it a holiday...retirement is my job....lol Actually I don't even remember what working felt like after being retired for 19 years...

19 years? Wow! I'm retired 10 years this coming summer. A 3 month holiday can't really be counted as a holiday. If so, I would go home 400 pounds!

nah, it's ok to have your lazy days...especially since you just got better after being sick :) you'll be ok and i know you're getting back on track with the fitness...i think the extra rest is gonna make you work extra hard back at the gym!

you remind me to book some massages...will be doing that soon!!!!! i have a few monthly prepaids waiting to be used up...probably at least 3 massages that i already paid for and need to schedule!

I wish massages weren't so expensive at home. I used to get one every other week a few years ago. Here they are cheap because of exchange rate - about $11 and about $3 for the tip. (400 baht for massage - 100 baht for tip).

Was hoping to join hubby on his 6 am bike ride but it was raining and there was thunder so we didn't go. Didn't go to the gym either as it's my day for lower body muscle work and my thighs and butt are still sore.  I just didn't want to go just for cardio.

So, lazy day.  Would have gone for a bike ride later but hubby has a sore throat (thanks to me) and I told him he needs to rest and stop going for long bike rides!  

Menu:

B:  porridge & raisins, yogurt

S:  small cappuccino & small cup of animal crackers

L:  veg fried rice with bacon and 1 egg

Dinner time started walking to a nearby restaurant we haven't been to in weeks but half the road was flooded and it was too dangerous to walk on the road.  So we decided on the spur of the moment to catch a tuk tuk into the busy beach/town area.  

D:  a really yummy steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes, gravy and peas.  And....umm.... 2 1/2 beers

lazy days are OK! i want more of these lol...i could use endless days right now of relaxation and time off from work would be perfect especially in March! hahaha.

Mostly sunny today although it poured during the night.

My thighs and butt are really sore after doing the lunges, squats, ankle weights etc yesterday - since it had been about 2 weeks. 

Bike ride:  12 miles - hot!

Gym workout upper

Upper body  12 reps x 4 sets each

11 routines (3 - 8 kg dumbbells)

Home workout:

abs - 3 routines - 10 reps x 3 sets

bridge - 10 reps x 3 sets

plank - 3 x 20 seconds

triceps dips - 10 reps x 3 shoulder still sore

push ups - 10 reps x 3


Menu:

B:  porridge & raisins, 1 toast, yogurt
L:  plain omelette & toast, mango smoothie (after hot bike ride!)
D:  leftover veg and tofu soup that hubby made
S:  plain crackers
 
Oh yea, deserved this with my lunch after cycling in the heat......

sore is good shows you worked some unused muscles...also that's a HUGE smoothie...what's in it? only mango and ice? any dairy or other ingredients?

Soreness was worse as I didn't stretch afterwards.

I think this one had milk in it although it was supposed to be a smoothie not a shake. Mango smoothies at other restaurants are much darker in colour. So this had mango, ice, milk, and probably some sugar.

Nope. He doesn't like this kind of thing. He likes fresh fruit, but not this. He doesn't have a sweet tooth either.

Rain, rain, rain.  Supposed to be 3 more days.  Then it's finished.  Uh huh.  I've heard that 6 or 7 times now.  

It was still raining when my alarm when off at 6:30 so I stayed in bed.  I did do a modified lower body muscle workout but without dumbbells.  

Workout lower

Lower body 10 reps x 4 sets each - used my ankle weights on my wrists

Lunges

Side lunges

squats

calf lifts


floor exercises 10 reps x 4 each

ankle weights - 3 routines for thighs, hips, glutes

Menu:

B:  toast, passionfruit, banana, yogurt

S:  small cappuccino, small biscuit/crackers

L:  mixed vegetables and tofu - small spoon of hubby's rice

D:  at home:  hubby is making a curry soup with tofu and veggies

It's raining here too today...but very welcome! it's too warm for snow & that's amazing...all month mostly rain instead of snow = seriously amazing in NYC in January.

Raining in Ohio too. I think it is too warm for January - mid fifties! I'm like bring on the cold. I would rather it be cold now than in March and April time frame. Have a great day!

Raining in Illinois --- I can see why, even in the warmer weather, it can be quite depressing. I truly enjoyed the beautiful pictures of the gym. Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing!

You're welcome! I am really not happy this winter. In the pool twice, in the kayak once, and still haven't snorkeled. Quite a few bike rides, but not enough. Hoping they are right about the forecast this time. Anxious to snorkel!

Got on scale.  .3 lbs less than last time I weighed myself.   Probably muscle loss!

Menu:

B:  porridge & raisins, banana

S:  Americano, 2 small pieces of whole grain, seeded toast with butter and homemade pineapple jam (had to go pick up our weekly loaf of homemade bread since we were too early yesterday which is baking day)

L:  Asparagus and tofu, one small spoonful of hubby's rice

S:  a few hard candies -sugar free coffee flavour, a few plain crackers

D:  roasted chicken, boiled potatoes, some kind of leafy green veg you cook (hubby knows) - there is a hut down the road where a man roasts whole chickens all day and they always look and smell so good - so convinced hubby we should have that for dinner

Gym workout upper

Upper body  12 reps x 4 sets each

11 routines (3 - 8 kg dumbbells)


Home workout:

abs - 3 routines - 10 reps x 3 sets

bridge - 10 reps x 3 sets

plank - 3 x 20 seconds

triceps dips - 10 reps x 3 couldn't do - still some shoulder pain

push ups - 10 reps x 3


Cardio:  not feeling energetic - still blowing nose
Elliptical - 5 mins
Bike - 10 mins

Heavy rain in the middle of the night, so drove to gym.  Didn't rain again though. 
 
Took some pics of the gym (at a resort down the road).  3 cardio machines, dumbbells, one wall is fully mirrored.  That's it. The ocean can be seen from the gym.  Had the gym to myself until just before I was leaving.  A couple came in.

I love that view it's amazing. Love that all the walls are glass so pretty outdoors...

I can tell you are eating less calories now...good job. I sometimes go for a few sf candies too...when i'm feeling really snacky at work and i already ate and shouldn't be hungry again.

The view is the nice but when the sun is out it the big windows make it worse. But I always pull the blinds down when the sun comes in. It is a pleasant spot though.

Lovely sunny day.  Went with husband to mass this morning.  I am actually enjoying it although I haven't been catholic for about 45 years.  We always have a chat with a couple of people who have lived here a long time - a lady from South Africa and a man from England.  I enjoy the music they play as well - their choir has beautiful voices.

Some shopping afterwards then to usual Sunday lunch restaurant.  Unfortunately we were too early and the bread hadn't finished baking yet. So we'll go back in the morning to get it.  

A dip in the pool later.  Refreshing.  

Menu:

B:  porridge & raisins, yogurt

S:  was starving after mass and picked up some peanut M & Ms

L:  pumpkin and tofu curry with jasmine and brown rice, my Sunday gin and tonic

D:  scrambled eggs, toast, cheese and crackers 

S:  rum and pepsi

M - F will be NO beer or alcohol and I WILL behave.

Sunny today.  However, it is not expected to last.    Rain forecast again on Monday.  Not feeling full energy or else we would kayak.

Went on 5 1/2 mile bike ride to Villa Chocolat for a treat (yea, like I deserve one!)

Menu: 

B:  porridge, yogurt

S/L:  chocolatey lemon cake with iced cappuccino (photo below) Not as pretty as the last one I had, but the other was just too rich.

L/D:  going into the town for late lunch/early dinner - steak and ale pie with fries and peas, people watching and beer

Friday

Woke up feeling a bit better.  No sinus headache and I don't remember waking up coughing during the night.  My nose started to block up while having breakfast so I took a couple of Sudafed, now it keeps running!  Will have to miss my massage this morning but hubby will go for his.  

Tues evening we had a short heavy downpour but since then it's just showers during the night.  Sky is blue today.  The pool will be warmed up now so will go for a swim midafternoon when there is some shade on it.  Might go for a walk on the beach as well.  Don't feel 100% of my energy so nothing strenuous.  

Gym on Monday and I need to get on scale everyday.  Will try for no beer at least on Mon - Fri.  My bikini tops are tight and uncomfortable.  

Menu:

B:  porridge, yogurt

S:  small cappuccino, small cracker/biscuits

L:  veg fried rice w/bacon and 1 egg, iced tea

D:  walked down the coastline again about 1.5 miles to the resort where my gym is - happy hour.  So Philly cheese steak and fries, 3 beers. 

S:  1 more beer

Started day with sinus headache!  Argghhh.  Coughing, runny nose.  So having a rest day.  I might have pushed myself too much by going on that bike ride at lunchtime in the heat yesterday and then that long walk along the beach to dinner and back (about 2 miles).  I hate this because after all this horrid rain we are getting mostly sunny days and I can't fully enjoy it. 

Unless I wake up tomorrow a lot better, I'll have to miss my massage.  I'll send hubby on his own.  

Menu:

B:  porridge, banana

L:  chicken wrap, mango smoothie, 1 carob chip cookie (was planning on a veggie omelette and fries but that restaurant was closed)

D:  stayed home, sent hubby out for dinner - cheddar on crackers, apple, maybe yogurt

S:  rum and coke or beer

I have GOT to be back at the gym on Monday!!!

Yes good going to listen to your body and you’ll feel better in no time! I was reading a post on facebook (are you on there too, would love to friend you! – I am friends with a large handful of DDers on there actually!!)..

Oh, so I was reading this post on fb from an athlete, her name is Camille and she’s a major athlete here some info I just checked out about her – wow she is SO YOUNG! - Camille Leblanc-Bazinet (born October 10, 1988) is a Canadian professional CrossFit Games athlete. She is the female winner of the 2014 CrossFit Games. She is also an accomplished weightlifter, having qualified for the national championship for weightlifting in Canada.

Anyways, she posted something in regards to the fact that if you haven’t failed, you haven’t pushed hard enough – and she has a video with it – showing her attempts at lifting this huge barebell with heavy weights above her head from a squat starting point…and she has to drop it several times and she falls backward but she keeps trying, and she does eventually get it….practice makes improvement…and it makes me feel better.

All because your body isn’t feeling good this morning doesn’t mean that yesterday was too much…and it doesn’t mean not to ever try again…but yeah the combination of weather and everything may have not been right for you….just take your rest and keep on girlfriend!

Get well soon, it’ll pass of course!

Oh, try not to let the weather destroy your happiness….Mother Nature has certainly affected us in NY so differently compared to the past couple years of crazy cold and snow…been so mild and nice this year…better weather does make us feel bad, you will have to work harder now bc of the rain to stay positive lol….sorry!

Thanks! It's gorgeous with blue skies today and mostly sunny the two previous days.

I think I didn't feel good as my body needed rest to recuperate and I didn't do it. I know you should do light exercise when you have a cold or flu, but that was not light. And it's in the heat so I sweat then sit in front of fan or AC and get chilled.
