Today I am grateful that I'm a spoiled westerner and don't live in crushing poverty!

Goal for today is clean eating.

Last chance to try on swimsuits so am going for a day of shopping in Glasgow tomorrow. Big sales on but choices will be limited. I'll just have to buy whatever I can find that fits. Will have access to a couple of swimming pools while we are in Uganda in January. I'd prefer not to have to buy a bikini but will if I have to.

We are debating whether to spend a couple of nights at a very expensive lodge in Uganda, my favourite!

Still can't upload photos, even small ones. Has that ability been removed due to bandwidth limits?

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins treadmill
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps - 3 sets of 12
  • back lifts on half ball - 3 sets of 10

Workout at home:

  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • thigh master
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Good morning! I think a couple of nights at your fave lodge sounds awesome:) Sorry I can't answer your photo question, you might want to ask Supercheese, she posted a pic a few days ago, maybe she can help you out..I hope you find the perfect swimsuit, have a great day Annie :)

thenewMLE on 10/08/2012:
Hey Annie! I'm trying to post a pic right now (VERY SMALL) and it just won't send to the server. I thought the server might be down so I was going to wait a little while. Good luck with your swim suit shopping!

biscottibody59 on 10/08/2012:
The webmaster may not be aware of the picture problem after the maintenance to the site from last week--maybe send an email.

Enjoy your day and week!

Maria7 on 10/08/2012:
Sounds like you have been very busy making plans for your trip. :-) Hope you are having a good day.

sweetpea1977 on 10/08/2012:
I say go for the expensive lodge. You only live once so enjoy your favorite place some more!! :)

Great workout routine!!

liza36 on 10/08/2012:
Good luck with your swimsuit shopping. I agree with Sweetpea - go for the good place you love!

supercheese on 10/09/2012:
swimsuits shopping....always an adventure! LOL

Today I am grateful for another day of sunshine!

3 months from tomorrow we fly to Uganda for a 4 week visit. Very excited about seeing our friends and the country. I've just managed to find a programme on my android phone that lets me upload a Word file which has all my Runyankole notes (language of the SW area). I loved using the language when we lived there and the locals were always so delighted.

This is a non-workout day and clean eating.

Have a happy Sunday everybody.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Today I am grateful for sunshine which we are forecast to have the next 3 days!

A non-workout day.

I am battling my 'oatcake addiction'. I find it so easy to just take one out of the cupboard, then another, and another. The calories add up at 36 cals for the thinner ones and 43 for the rough ones. There is no junk food in the house at all so they have become my indulgence. I like the thin ones much better by themselves so I'm just going to buy the rough ones. Don't want to give them up as they are healthy and are my favourite after gym workout snack (with pb). Ingredients: oats, oil, salt. The scale jumped to 130 a couple of days ago so I need to behave. Doesn't sound like a huge gain but 130 can easily turn into 140, etc....

Tried to upload a photo of oatcakes but the site isn't letting me do it.  ?

Week after next we have guests (another 'mixed' couple - Scottish & American) who will stay for 4 nights. The American is a Scottish folk singer and Gaelic choir singer and she'll be participating in this annual event. This year it just happens to be in our town. http://www.dunoonmod2012.org/

Have an amazing weekend, ladies!

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Happy Friday :)

liza36 on 10/05/2012:
What are you reading? I just started a book yesterday called Freakonomics. A so-called young brillant economist here in the US looks at economics in a totally different way. It's for book club, so the girl who picked it said it would produce good discussion. I don't generally go around reading economics books!

Have a good weekend.

Maria7 on 10/05/2012:
Looks like you are getting in a good workout. :-)

legcramps on 10/05/2012:
I'm with you on the gratefulness for today... I love my books and honestly don't think I could live without them :)

Have a wonderful weekend!

inmorning on 10/05/2012:
I love good books too. I am not sure what I would do without them. I even like to listen to audiobooks when I don't have time to sit down and read.

Today I am grateful for the area I call home!

I don't know how she manages but my spin bike instructor finds ways to make each class a little bit tougher. It was so intense today!!

After class husband and I went to our botanic gardens for a 'fungal foray' looking for different mushrooms with an expert. About 30 people there. Really just booked it because I knew my hubby would enjoy it but I found it interesting as well. At the end we got tea/coffee and a big variety of homemade goodies. Yum!

Workout:

  • 30 mins intense spin bike class

Menu:

No comment! Not great.

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

liza36 on 10/04/2012:
I still have not tried spinning. So many people love it. I'm not sure I have the strength and stamina for it. Maybe someday I'll try it.

I'm sure your intense class counteracted your "no comment" menu!

zoe1 on 10/04/2012:
I tried spinning and didn't enjoy it. The seats weren't very comfortable.

V on 10/04/2012:
Girl don't worry don't stress about your intake today, I am sure that intense spin class took care of most of the calories! Have a great evening <3

TheMother on 10/04/2012:
Just checking in to see how you're doing. Your excursion sounds "interesting". My hubby wouldn't have liked it though because he absolutely HATES mushrooms of any kind. It's always nice to get a goody bag. Enjoy the treats!!!!

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

thenewMLE on 10/03/2012:
Great workout! Do you take vitamins or iron supplement? Maybe the fatigue is vitamin related? I little chocolate might remedy that too! Have a great day.

V on 10/03/2012:
I was going to ask the same about the vitamins..How much sleep do you average per night? The reason I ask is I realized that i wasn't getting nearly enough for as much activity that I get in(work, workouts) I usually feel a bit sluggish in the morning if I stay up past 11pm..Anyhoo sorry for the long post about my sleep habits, i am sure it is boring you to zzzz's LOL

Thanks for the wishful thinking..It is really storming now, I am indeed off from work..If only I had a transporter, I could zap myself there and do your at home workout with you and perhaps a glass(or two) of vino with ya afterwards ;) Have a great day Annie <3

supercheese on 10/03/2012:
Ahahaha i bought yogurt covered pretzels and that was my downfall to my eating too but great job on the workout!!

liza36 on 10/03/2012:
Enjoy clean eating today. That's actually my goal for today too. I can handle one day, right?!

Maria7 on 10/03/2012:
Wow...that's a nice workout! :-)

Great job on the workout.

Today I am grateful for my washer and dryer!  (remembering the hand washing in Uganda!)

Calorie-counting day - 1400-ish. Woke up feeling really drained but felt better a bit later. I should be doing my strength routines that didn't get done yesterday but I'm going to let it slide this time as it might be overdoing. I did do a 'super-clean' on our hallway. It's a wide hallway with nothing in it but a photo gallery. I did a good dusting of the photo frames, baseboards, a few cobwebs, radiators, vacuuming the edges of carpet, vacuumed, and then shampooed the carpet.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  egg salad/onion/low fat mayo on multigrain bread, yogurt
  • S:  2 clementines, V8
  • D:  chicken curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  rice cake
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1415

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

Today I am grateful for my sofa and good book!

Gym day but when I got there I started feeling dizzy or queasy off and on and also too hot. So I  just did an hour and then came home. Hoping I'm not getting the flu that's going around. My appetite has not been affected as I just had a good sized lunch. Might do my home strength routines tomorrow and just lie on the sofa today and hope that I'm not getting sick.

Not a calorie-counting day today.

5 years ago today we left for Uganda to live for 2 years. 3 years ago tomorrow we left to come home. Here are the blog posts from arrival & departure if anyone cares to read them:

Supercheese on 10/01/2012:
Wow uganda! I'm so impressed with how much traveling you do....Maybe one day I will do the same :)

sweetpea1977 on 10/01/2012:
Man,I hope you're not getting sick. Get plenty of fluids and be sure not to over-exert yourself on the exercise until you feel 100%.

Umpqua on 10/01/2012:
How exciting that you get to visit Uganda again soon! I hope you can fight off whatever is ailing you, take it easy.

hollybelle on 10/01/2012:
I'm looking forward to looking at your pics soon. Just stopped by to say hello and I'm still around! Saw your comment about following the US elections. Exciting stuff here. No comments as I stay out of it. I have my opinions and I don't think I can change anyone else's mind at this point, anyway. Everyone is entitled to their vote and that's a great thing!

liza36 on 10/01/2012:
I loved reading about your stay in Uganda. Thanks for sharing!

V on 10/01/2012:
What an interesting stay that must have been for you Annie i am blown away with the pics..BTW Mockingbird, Shawshank as well as Braveheart tops the charts as far as my movie faves as well :) Looking forward to seeing the pics in 3 months :) How long are you staying this time?

Today I am grateful for.....today!

This is a calorie-counting rest day (1400 cals). I will be cleaning the bathrooms and shampooing the carpets in them. I'm bugging hubby to rip them both up and put in floor tiles but it'll be a while before he gets to it. Otherwise, reading a book and relaxing.

I'm following US election news of which we get a lot in the UK, but not nearly as much as in the US. As a citizen I'm entitled to vote absentee even though I'm not a resident, and this will be my 4th election from abroad.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 slices turkey bacon & mustard on multigrain sandwich, yogurt, V8
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  chicken, potatoes, corn on the cob, salad, drink
  • S:  rice cake
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1445

Today I am grateful for my sweet husband!

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

Due to yesterday's hangover   which kept me from going to the gym, I did a home workout today. Not a calorie-counting day but will be doing clean eating. I've just discovered my supermarket is selling single serve bottles of Starbuck's Frappuccino. Love those! I thought they were really high cal but are only 64 cals! So I'm having one tonight with a rice cake for my evening snack.

Workout at home:

  • 45 mins tae bo including 8 sets of 25 jump rope
  • dumbbells - 3 sets of 12 - 7 routines
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thigh master

Progress as of today: 38.8 lbs lost so far, only 0.2 lbs to go!

V on 09/29/2012:
Happy to hear that you are fully recovered! You must remember to drink equal parts water to wine on your trip to England, maybe it will all balance out ;) Hahahaha have an awesome day Annie <3

thenewmle on 09/29/2012:
I got taken down by a hangover too! I should have seen it coming as all the drinks were also loaded in sugar! I'm going to try my home workout tomorrow. We have had 2 days of rain and expect the same for tomorrow so I haven't been on my bike. At least after the hectic traveling I can be home this weekend. Plan on getting some cooking done tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend. Do y'all get US football broadcast or what is the sport of the season for the country? We watched college football all day and will have the Saints tomorrow. Great way to pass a rainy day!
