Just checking in quickly. Busy sorting out and cleaning stuff for the charity shops, more out of the loft and other places to dump or give away. Cleaning the guest room - washing the musty smelling pillows and freshening the duvets and covers as we'll have guests mid October. Will shampoo the carpet and sofa bed later. Guess that was my work out. A bit of extra snacking today. Back to the gym tomorrow and a full home workout of strength training.

Progress as of today: 37.2 lbs lost so far, only 1.8 lbs to go!

V on 09/18/2012:
Sounds like a productive day to me :) Have a good evening Annie!

thenewmle on 09/18/2012:
Good luck with the cleaning! Once I start, I can't seem to stop! Have a nice evening!

Sounds like you are in a cleaning mood to say the least ;) have a great day!

Today I am extremely grateful that my packrat husband has finally decided to clean out our loft which is packed with junk. We are putting in extra insulation before getting a new heating system and all that stuff would make it really difficult.  Woohoo!!!

The charity shops are going to be happy to see me! I helped with the loft emptying, of course, and did have to keep an eye on him so he wouldn't dump stuff that I wanted to keep, like a couple things of sentimental value and some nice picture frames. So I didn't get to do my strength training this afternoon. I'll do it tomorrow which kinda screws up my schedule this week as I won't do these two days in a row.

Rainy, yucky day and very chilly!  Oh well.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins treadmill
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raisins/almonds/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb. Felt like having a diet pepsi so went to a shop to pick up a 1/2 litre bottle before catching my bus. Somehow 2 bite-sized milk chocolate bars jumped into my hand!!   So had to juggle calories for today to compensate. (95 cals each).
  • L:  1 slice multigrain toast w/pate, plain greek yogurt w/raspberries
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  1 oatcake, 1 slice low fat cheddar, mocha
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1600

Progress as of today: 37.2 lbs lost so far, only 1.8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 09/17/2012:
I'm sure the loft cleaning was quite a workout - it must be so nice to get rid of that stuff. My husband loves to accumulate "stuff" and he never throws anything out so I know how that is!

V on 09/17/2012:
Hey there Annie! I am sure you feel good after donating stuff you don't use any more :) Hope you had an excellent day <3

makeithappen on 09/18/2012:
Wow! Congratulations! You are only 1.8 pounds away from your goal weight.

liza36 on 09/18/2012:
It feels good to clear out and clean like you are. Have a wonderful day.

TheMother on 09/18/2012:
I love to periodically clean out closets, the garage, etc. and get rid of stuff. It feels so good afterwards. I usually donate it to our local thrift shops so they can make some $$$$. During my sister's upcoming visit (she arrives tomorrow for two weeks), one of the things we plan to do is bring some usable clothing to my local thrift store. No point in keeping stuff that I have outgrown (plus sized clothes) but someone else can still use. Have a good day!

Happy Sunday, ladies.  Today I am grateful for my family & friends.

We have booked our trip to Michigan for next summer to see my family, especially grandkids. So far no plans for a trip-within-a- trip as last year when we rented a house on Lake Michigan.

Scale finally creeping down even though I haven't been really good lately--mostly wine and too many oatcakes.

Rest day, at least from workouts anyway. Plan to 'super-clean' one of the bathrooms today--wash all the wall tiles, tops of cupboards, sort out the cupboards, all the wee corners that get missed during a regular cleaning. Might start on the guest room as we have a couple coming to visit the middle of Oct.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raspberries/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 eggs, 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 multigrain toast, plain greek yogurt & raspberries
  • S:  V8, clementine
  • D:  Quorn mince and peas curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  mocha, 2 oatcakes
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1418

Progress as of today: 37.2 lbs lost so far, only 1.8 lbs to go!

Today I am grateful for breakfast in bed with the love of my life and a lovely view of the loch propped up in bed!

Forecast was wrong. Was hoping for a hike today but it's cold, cloudy and showery. Sigh.

I'm afraid the end of the berry season is coming. Strawberries have not been very good the last couple of weeks. Raspberries are still very good. Blueberrries (unless in a muffin or pancakes) are not my favourite and really only eat them because they are very good for you. Don't know what I'll do with my plain greek yogurt - can't eat it w/o fresh berries. Guess I'll need to go back to buying mixed yogurts until berry season returns - I refuse to buy frozen berries.

Workout at home:  (did 1 or 2 extra sets on several of my routines since I missed Weds. strength training)

  • dumbbells - 4 sets of 10 - 7 routines
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • 7 min video routine for triceps/arms
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge (for glutes)
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats
  • lunges w/dumbbells
  • thigh master

Edit:  oops forgot to add:  also did 200 jump rope and 20 mins on my exercise bike!

Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  6 oatcakes w/liver pate, 1 slice low fat cheddar, plain greek yogurt w/strawberries
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  leftover veggie curry (added tofu), rice, salad, drink
  • S:  mocha, packet of baked crisps
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1436

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Today I am grateful for fresh fruit.

A few people at my gym were discussing the new Dallas and they asked if I was watching it. I replied no but that I watched it in the 80's and that was enough. Got a quizzical look from a couple of them as they did the math! They are all 20's to maybe early 40's so were kids or not yet born when it was first on (I was in my late 20's/early 30's at that time). The UK has been showing reruns of the original since long before I ever moved here.    Why?!

There's a parade in Glasgow today with all the Scottish participants who were on Team GB in the Olympics/Paralympics. But the weather is not nice (surprise!). Very windy with showers off and on. So we're not going. If Andy Murray was going to be there I'd go anyway, but he isn't.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike - the programmes aren't always the same and today it asked me to do 6 segments in a row of standing hill position/running/jumps. That was 15 minutes straight! Whew!
  • 20 mins treadmill - plus 5 mins when I first arrived at the gym and someone was on the spin bike
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines (lowered the weights on the machine I suspected of causing my rotator cuff injury - feels pretty good today)
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball

I'll do the at-home strength training portion tomorrow morning.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb, sm carton oj
  • L:  grilled cheese w/multigrain bread &| low fat cheddar, plain greek yogurt w/strawberries
  • S:  fresh pineapple, sm clementine
  • D:  leftover veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  packet of baked crisps
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1579

happy to hear that your rotator cuff is better :) Sorry about the weather keeping you from the parade..By chance was the runner with the killer abs there? I would have loved to have seen her! RYC, yes "skankasaurus" just rolled off my tongue and it is truly fitting for this chick, they should have taken her out to pasture ages ago..Hahaha Hopefully you will never have to call anyone that(you are such a nice person and I could never see you losing your temper like that, However feel free to use it if needed ;) LOL Have a great evening Annie <3

biscottibody59 on 09/14/2012:
We're having damp and dreary weather the last couple days, but I'll take it--it'll be close to blazing (90sF) next week for sure. And it's just not often like this during September. Glad your shoulder is doing all right--good news!

I've got the very first new "Dallas" to watch on the DVR--I wanted to see what the fuss was. I never got into the original--a couple of roommates watched it and I never could. I think the appeal is the cutthroat drama perhaps (more than they'd do in a regular daytime soap--never got into those either). Being a native Texan, I think the accents just threw me. I love Larry Hagman's story, but to watch him as JR is a stretch. His mother, Mary Martin was a native Texan, but his accent leaves a lot to be desired:-)

Today I am grateful for the internet!

Got my hair trimmed today as I was tempted to butcher my bangs/fringe again. Rotator cuff feels much better but was stiff when I woke up - took ibuprofen, hubby massaged it, and I did some stretching. I will pay close attention when I do the resistance machines and weights tomorrow and if it feels likes it's being aggravated I'll stop.

I've been feeling deprived and just plain hungry lately. Increasing my calories again as I think they are still too low for my level of activity. I'm very close to wear I want to be so need to experiment some more.

Workout:

  • 30 mins spin bike class (instructor was at training today so we had a substitute. He's just not a great instructor as he's not energizing or motivating and bascially he just sounds like a robot.)

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  popped into the health food store between haircut and spin class and bought some smoked tofu but also could not resist the yummy sesame snaps (made with sesame seeds and sugar - 157 cals!)
  • L:  multigrain bread w/pbj
  • S:  got home from spin class and grocery shopping on this chilly, drizzly day and was hungry and needed some comfort, so had a skinny mocha, a packet of baked crisps, 1 oatcake with pate.
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  don't know if I can resist having an evening snack as I always do (maybe a half portion of yogurt & berries).
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1581?

Progress as of today: 36.6 lbs lost so far, only 2.4 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 09/13/2012:
The rotator cuff is so easy to hurt. I have to watch how I sleep on my sides because it will act up sometimes. Originally injured it while walking my 100 lb dog and he took off in the opposite direction. That was before he was so well leash trained. LOL

inmorning on 09/13/2012:
Wow, how wonderful to have a fella to massage that for you! Remember ice for the first 24 hours after injury and then warm compresses after. Take care.

V on 09/13/2012:
Booo on the android instructor :P You should have taken over the class! I hope you had an awesome day <3

mskitty on 09/13/2012:
uping the calories might be a good idea if your feeling like your starving. Good luck for the weekend.

Umpqua on 09/14/2012:
Good idea to increase your calories, with your amped up exercise schedule it's important to listen to your body and feed it. I hope you have a nice weekend!

Today I am grateful that I am retired!

Changed my routine on the resistance machines at the gym today from 4 sets of 10 reps to 3 sets of 12. In doing so I hurt my left rotator cuff, but not badly. I think I did it on the chest press on the final rep. I get very nervous about hurting that area since quite a few years ago I had problems with it (although it was on the other side).  So decided not do my strength training at home this afternoon. Doing gentle stretching and took some Ibuprofen.

Workout at gym:

  • 30 mins treadmill - 7-10% incline, fast walk
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 3 sets of 12 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Menu:
  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  2 fried eggs on 2 slices bread, banana, 2 oatcakes & slice of low fat cheddar
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  chickpea curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt w/raspberries
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1507

Progress as of today: 36.6 lbs lost so far, only 2.4 lbs to go!

supercheese on 09/12/2012:
ouch!! Hope its not too big of a pain in the butt and stretch!

Umpqua on 09/12/2012:
Great work upping your reps but be careful - probably a good idea to take it easy this afternoon.

inmorning on 09/12/2012:
Hope you have a great afternoon.

thenewMLE on 09/12/2012:
Oh, that must hurt. I didn't realize how much I depended on the movement of my arm and shoulders until I had a frozen shoulder about 3 years ago. And then the rehab made me realize how intricate all the muscles, tendons and nerves were grouped. I felt so helpless as I lost range of motion and then I felt like such a baby when I couldn't do the exercises. Take the ibuprofen and easy stretching but don't baby it. I babied mine until the doctor could see me and by then it had set up to losing movement. Take it easy today!

biscottibody59 on 09/12/2012:
Hope your shoulder issue doesn't linger. I know it can be hard to rest when you're on a roll with things--take care!

ps I read an article about Murray (rah, rah!) that mentioned he and Djokovic played their very first match at age 11--pretty wild ride all these years for both of them to still be around at the top of the heap:-)

V on 09/12/2012:
Oh no :( I hope you aren't in pain..Good idea on taking it easy at home..Enjoy your evening :)

selina on 09/12/2012:
Take it easy.... my weakpoint is my shoulder....

liza36 on 09/13/2012:
Hope your injury resolves itself soon. Don't want to be sidelined for too long.

I hope you are having a good Thursday. :-)

Today I am thrilled that Andy Murray (a Scot from Dunblane, a wee village near Stirling) won the US Open Tennis last night!  However, this is tinged with sadness in memory of what happened on this date 11 years ago.

Woke up to sun but now it's sun, clouds, showers, sun, clouds, rain.... Was hoping I could go for a hike today but really don't enjoy it in the rain. I should learn to enjoy it due to what country I live in!!

Workout:

  • 45 mins tae bo

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/cinnamon/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  toast/oatcake w/liver pate, banana
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  lentil/brown rice/veggie soup, homemade seeded multigrain toast w/Benecol spread, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt w/strawberries, V8
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1400

Progress as of today: 36.6 lbs lost so far, only 2.4 lbs to go!

inmorning on 09/11/2012:
RYC- Amazing how that day 11 years ago still has effects on our lives today with how much has changed. I know someone with a birthday today and she refuses to acknowledge the whole 9-11 issue regarding it falling on her birthday. She says, she had the day first and refuses to let idiots take it from her. I like her thinking. Still, we see the damage around us from it's wake. Nonetheless, I hope your day is great. Thanks for the lentil soup idea. I am trying to go as raw food as possible but the soup is great for those times I just need to eat something cooked!

V on 09/11/2012:
Go Andy! Sorry that the rain has foiled your plans for a hike. I'm with you, I don't think I would enjoy it either especially getting all muddy :( LOL Hope you have a good day :)

selina on 09/11/2012:
Yay for Andy! I love the rain....

selina on 09/11/2012:
For rainy days all you need is a good pair of rain boots.

RYC: Yep, that's how it starts--here today, gone tomorrow.

All the ones I'm thinking of just stopped posting with no explanation. One man who posted for a couple of years was in increasingly poor health and he kept letting us know things weren't going so well. He wasn't dying or anything, but you have to think he didn't just quit posting--I couldn't think his health hasn't had something to do with it. When you don't hear one way or the other, that person (even though most of us will probably never meet) is preserved as his diary was. He was a gem and one of the few men who posted regularly for awhile here--there have been a handful.

  • L:  salad w/Quorn Southern Style patty, plain greek yogurt & raspberries
  • S:  clementine
