Sun today! Woohoo! Edited yesterdays entry with a brownies confession. All are in the rubbish bin, outside, irretrievable.

  • skipped the elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
  • Plan to do a 4 mile power walk as soon as my lunch feels digested. Lovely day outside!

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  2 oatcakes & pb, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 Quorn southern style patties on 1 slice multigrain with lt mayo
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  probably veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  1 oatcake, 1 slice low fat cheddar
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1434

Progress as of today: 32.8 lbs lost so far, only 6.2 lbs to go!

Sorry you had to ditch the brownies, but I totally understand. I have that same uncontrollable need at times and if it is in the house (frozen or not) and I NEED it - watch out!!! Actually that was one of the only good points after Katrina was that I had to take a job out of the house. I used to work upstairs doing computer retouching for photographers and I would RUN down the stairs to retrieve a handful of jelly beans and I would pretend that the run down the stairs compensated for the sugar calories. Then in a few minutes I really NEEDED more, so I would set a goal or finish point on the job, and once I reached it I would RUN down the stairs again for another handful!! This would go on all day until at the end of the week I had polished off 5 pounds of gummy bears or jelly beans! And then of course I would have remorse that night and when I would buy another bag I would tell myself that it would last longer next time! So when I went sugar free, I had to stop buying them because the cravings were so strong the first few weeks I would walk past that crystal biscuit barrel, lift the lid and just smell the empty jar. Oh, well, out of sight, out of mind!!!

hollybelle on 07/25/2012:
Sorry - I didn't explain my bike shopping trip very well - we were shopping for my friend - I bought a road bike last year and while I'd love to have another one - I'm sticking with the one I have for now! Grdat exercise - although I do not understand indoor cycling, I'm glad you do!

selina on 07/25/2012:
You made me LOL with your brownies account! I told my family that I refuse to buy things that are too yummy aka hagen das ice cream just because I can't control myself if I know I have it in the freezer. I hope you have lots of sunshine, today!

sweetpea1977 on 07/25/2012:
I have some ants in my trash can that will truly enjoy your friends' brownies. :)

Plan for today sounds great! Enjoy the sunshine!

Taking a good idea from Moogy's blog......

Today I am grateful for my loving and patient husband, for my good health, for living in the midst of gorgeous scenery!

Didn't get to my strength training yesterday afternoon, so did it all this morning. If the sun comes back out I may go for a power walk.

We'll be gone M - W next week so I'm going to do a workout at home (or outside) on Saturday and a long workout at the gym on Sunday while hub is at church and then doing his laps in the pool.

Workout:

  • dumbbells
  • planks (full and alternating)
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 routines
  • bridge - for glutes
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  tuna/onion/celery/lt mayo on soya & linseed bread, pineapple
  • S:  1 clementine
  • D:  savory rice w/asparagus, mangetout, reduced fat smoked sausage
  • S:  plain greek yogurt & raspberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1276

Edit:  Confession: I got very weak and the brownies which kept screaming my name got an answer. Ate one late last night just before bed (and yes, you can eat them frozen). Today after lunch I just kept thinking about how incredibly good they taste, and I ate 4!!!    Disgusting! The rest of them are now outside in the bin!  All of them. They are my very favourite dessert and having them in the house is simply not possible, ever.

Progress as of today: 32.8 lbs lost so far, only 6.2 lbs to go!

Good day there--keep up the good work!

Your entry re: brownies reminds me of a quote. I'll put it in tomorrow's entry.

moogy on 07/24/2012:
Nice to be grateful, puts you in a positive frame of mind I feel. Great job on the diet and exercise and also on the brownies. I always try to make things that don't tempt me for the children or else send the leftovers straight downstairs. At least you will know for next time annie. We all have our weaknesses, mine is Cadbury Milk Chocolate, can't have it in the house, it barely makes it home. Hence I stick with the dark stuff. Can't really binge on bitter stuff and it satisfies my cravings:)

sweetpea1977 on 07/24/2012:
Good for you on fessing up on the brownies. Its not easy to admit weaknesses, but it a takes a strong person to do so. At least you know now not to ever torture yourself by keeping them in the house. Im the exact same way with ice cream. I never buy it unless its for a birthday party (cake and vanilla ice cream is must!). Sad thing is that I can make even the most boring flavor taste good by adding common ingredients found in most pantries (dark chocolate chips, instant coffee, peanut butter, cinnamon, or honey). In fact, I love ice cream so much that I request a special trip to Coldstone Creamery for my birthday dessert. Dont even bother wasting money on a store-bought cake!!! Now, I love cake too, but Im the only one who knows how to bake a real cake and Im not going to make my own birthday cake...EVER! hahaha

Umpqua on 07/25/2012:
Good for you for throwing out the brownies - if something is that tempting and causing so many problems it's best to just get rid of it IMO! Hope you have a good one today!

Another dreich, rainy day! England is getting perfect weather. Not fair! Next sunny day I plan to try to ride my bike up a very steep hill which is a few miles down the road from us. I've never been able to ride all the way to the top and I want to see if all the spinning and the strength I've built up in my legs will help me do it.

The scale is headed downward!

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike (intense!)
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Workout at home: My intentions are to do all these after my lunch is digested, but may do the large muscles tomorrow.
  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes & pb
  • L:  tuna/onion/celery/lt mayo on soya & linseed bread, packet of baked crisps
  • S:  pineapple
  • D:  savory rice with asparagus and smoked sausage, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt & raspberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1460

Progress as of today: 32.8 lbs lost so far, only 6.2 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 07/23/2012:
We've had two sunny days in a row after about 2 straight weeks of dreary rainy weather. Even though its crazy hot, its nice to see the sun again. I hope your rain goes soon so you can tackle that great big hill! Im sure all your spin classes have helped build up your quad and glute strength. :)

Congrats on the weightloss. Keep it up Annie!

Thanks for the advice on lowering my cholesterol. I haven't really charted my foods & cholesterol levels. I thought sticking to a mostly fish & chicken diet with vegetables and fruits would be enough ( with an occasional sweet & beef thrown in!) Maybe I'm missing something. Good luck on the ride up the steep hill! I think I prefer the ride down!

Hope you lovely ladies are having a nice Sunday.

England got the warm, sunny temps today but we've got fog and drizzle.  Arghh...

Back on track but next week we're going to do two overnights up in Inverness to see hub's grandson who is now 3 months old. There isn't enough room in the house for guests now so we're stayiing in a hotel. This means eating out for breakfasts and maybe dinner but we'll be at our usual Wetherspoons where I know what the calories are of every dish. So I have choices. There will be pints of beer as well, but I'll try to limit those. If the weather is nice we can walk on the beautiful trails along the River Ness.

Workout:

housework!!!

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 egg on soya linseed bread w/6 g benecol spread
  • S:  clementine
  • D:  curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  1 of the browies that are calling my name from the freezer! But they are so tiny! I'd count 4 of them as a proper sized brownie - but that would be emm...600 cals - so I guess not!
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1378

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Edited yesterday's entry but had even more wine afterwards and also a couple of small ginger biscuits I found in their cupboard and shared a packet of crisps with hubby.   I'm not feeling extremely guilty as I've been doing quite intense workouts.

The B & B guests were Americans! It was an American expat and her Scottish husband who live in Aberdeen, and her parents who came for a visit from Georgia. The mother and I had both lived in Knoxville before! We had some good chats!

It's nice meeting people but I really don't like the work involved in doing this. Our friends' kitchen is too big and too disorganized. Glad I don't do the cooking but my poor hubby had to time the dishes to be done around the same time, although there were warming trays. Today was scrambled, poached, and fried eggs; sausages, bacon, black pudding, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, baked beans!! And I got to clean up the mess!

Workout:

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master

Menu:

  • B:  1 poached egg, 1 bite of sausage, baked beans (was very busy with the guests at breakfast so didn't get much breakfast and what I did have had gotten cold.  A guest had 1/2 of a scone so there were 3 1/2 left, but I left them in the house.)
  • S:  still hungry so had 2 oatcakes with pbj when I got home
  • L:  oatcakes and pate
  • S:  apple
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain greek yogurt with fresh strawberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  unknown, but not bad

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

TheMother on 07/21/2012:
That's a LOT of food for breakfast!!!! Even though you had to handle the cleanup, in all honesty, I would rather clean than cook. I'm somewhat of a neat freak (so I've been told). Again, your friends should pay you a slight commission for all of your hard work (especially if this becomes a regular practice). Rest up!

We're hosting our friends' B & B while they are away for the weekend (tonight and tomorrow for breakfast). And that means 'temptations'. Guests will want bacon, eggs, sausages. There will be lots of shortbread and cookies in the house as well, and wine. I will try very hard to resist what I shouldn't have!

I picked up baked goods for the guests after the gym today. Instead of donuts with breakfast I got them scones which I can resist. Got cookies and iced brownie to offer them with tea when they arrive this afternoon. Hoping they eat them all so I won't be tempted!

Workout:
  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lifts on half ball
Menu: (what I will try hard to stick to)
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout:  2 oatcakes w/pb
  • L:  cheese sandwich w/lt mayo, plain yogurt w/blueberries
  • D:  curry & rice, salad
  • S:  glass of wine  Edit: (1 1/2 glasses) Guests left 1/4 iced brownie, 1 large chocolate chocolate chip cookie.  I ate the 1/4 brownie, split the cookie in two and ate the smaller half, the other half went in the bin (with difficulty!)
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1464

Have a great weekend everybody!!

I just love berry season!    I buy lots of berries every time I shop. Today I picked up strawberries, blueberries & raspberries. Also some cherries and apples and the usual clementines, bananas, and grapefruit. My hub eats about 3 bananas a day (part chimp!) and has started eating a pink grapefruit every day. He only eats fruit for lunch unless we are out somewhere.

Workout:

  • spin class - 30 mins but felt like hours! I swear this instructor loves to torture us! Except for warm up and cool down it's all super intense!

At home:

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes - 2 w/pb 2 w/pate, plain greek yogurt with fresh strawberries & raspberries
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad w/walnuts, drink
  • S:  glass of wine, packet of baked crisps
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1342

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Oh i love BERRIES!!! strawberries are my absolute favorite..Too bad there expensive here!

liza36 on 07/19/2012:
I'm with you on the berries. I'm currently enjoying strawberries, probably my favorite berry.

I got on a spin bike for the first time yesterday. Not as part of a class, but to do 10 minutes and see how it felt. I tried 3 seconds of standing up on the bike...I'm definitely not ready for that! I have to build up my strength. Good for you for getting in such an intense spin class.

selina on 07/19/2012:
Blueberries are by far my favorite!

hollybelle on 07/19/2012:
If your husband is part chimp, my family is a bunch of apes - we go through two or three bunches of bananas a week. I use on cereal and for snacks, and husband and daughter use in their shakes. Great exercise as usual. Enjoy those berries. My mom's neighbor gave me a big container of blackberries and I am gonna make muffins, I think!

LeakingLife on 07/19/2012:
Good going on your spin class--always good to be challenged. The berries sound lovely. Love the consistency you display daily--yeah!

RYC: Thanks for your concern--I do appreciate it! No chance of overdoing it here--I've always "listened" to my body. I think the key may be that I'm resisting the urge to "get back to X time of life" in favor of taking what I have now and working with it. So far, so good--guess time will tell! The 4-hr night was caffeine overDO--haha! Though it wasn't too funny at 3:45a when I was trying to bore myself to sleep with awful TV--yikes!

moogy on 07/19/2012:
They all seem to turn part chimp at a certain age (all that hair!) and the places it sprouts (what's with the nose and EARS!). LOL You seem to be back on track, that's great annie:)

Well, the visit to the bereaved friends has been changed yet again - next week. So I took the brownies and wrapped each one and put them in freezer bags. Also froze the 3 remaining giant chocolate chips cookies. Big test for me, but I'm going to save these as evening treats. Each brownie is about 150 cals (because I added choc chips or walnuts). And these are not large brownies! Had some small chunks left in the bag equal to about 1/2 brownie and ate those so added them to my calories for today.

So I'll pick up some treats at the bakery on the day we visit them.

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 20 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back raises on half ball

Workout at home: (did a full strength workout yesterday and don't want to do small muscles 2 days in a row, so I'm doing large muscles this afternoon and will do the rest tomorrow. Then on Saturday will do the full strength routines.)

  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master
Menu:

  • B:  porridge/strawberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post-workout snack:  2 oatcakes, pb
  • L:  grilled cheese sandwich w/low fat cheddar and soya/linseed bread, benecol spread; honeydew melon; partial brownie
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  plain yogurt & strawberries
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  1406

Hope you all are doing well and getting/staying healthy & fit!

Progress as of today: 31 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 07/18/2012:
Good work on freezing everything, I know how difficult it is to have tempting desserts in the house. Baked goods are a downfall for me, we still have some of my little one's giant birthday cake in the freezer that older son is slowly working on!

Really unhappy with myself for indulging so much yesteray. It was nonstop. I knew better than to bake my favourite dessert and should have just planned to pick up something from the bakery on the way to friends' house. Now the visit has been changed to tomorrow so the brownies and the rest of the cookies are sitting in my house. I've put them out of sight and I'm NOT touching them.

The scale is reflecting my indulgences and so are my clothes. So back on track now before it gets totally out of control.

Workout at home:

  • dumbbells
  • planks
  • push ups
  • triceps dips
  • side dips with dumbbell
  • abs-5 types + bridge
  • thighs/glutes with ankle weights
  • squats & lunges with dumbbells
  • thigh master
It's cloudy out and supposed to rain but I'm going to take a chance and go power walking later, probably 4 miles.  Edit: Started walking and got too cold - it's 60F but windy and it gets very cold walking around the point of the peninsula anyway....so I wimped out and walked 1.6 miles.

Menu (which I will stick to!)
  • B:  porridge/raspberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • L:  4 oatcakes w/liver pate, plain yogurt w/raspberries
  • S:  2 clementines
  • D:  veggie curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  2 oatcakes w/1 slice low fat cheddar
  • Teas & water
TOTAL:  1316

LeakingLife on 07/17/2012:
I hope the day's been better for you! Too bad we can't take and mix our climates together and come up with a happy medium. Yours and mine would probably equal pretty nice temps:-)

I hear you on the sweets! I make full-fat (butter) oatmeal-date scones, though not in at least a month of sundays now. I've been known to eat the batch and nothing else. They're great with raspberry jam, but the irresistibility of them is right up there with homemade choc-chip cookies for me!

The brownies and cookies are NOT for you. They are for your friends! How dare you even think about eating their food! ;-)

Menu looks great!

Funny how we play mind games with ourselves over our favourite food. Like putting it out of sight! LOL I just had a look at your 'pig out' day. Good grief woman, I think that you only think you went overboard because you east sooo healthily almost all the time. Your little taste here and there are probably nothing like the treats your used to have! I might be wrong, but I don't think so! Be gentle with yourself annie:)

(Healthy food-getting super-fit-maintenance)
Weight: 134.4

The day started out well. Healthy breakfast. Went to the gym. Stopped by grocery store..... downhill from there.

I'm going to visit my friends' tomorrow, the ones who just lost a child, and also to see the mum's parents who are flying back home to the US on Weds. Thought I'd be nice and bake them some brownies. Also picked up a batch of giant chocolate chip cookies in case the brownies didn't turn out well. You can guess the rest...    Chocolate is NOT a good thing to have this house. I made one batch of brownies with walnuts and the other with chocolate chips. Had to test both batches, right?

Workout at gym:

  • 35 mins spin bike
  • 10 mins elliptical
  • 4 sets of 10 on 6 resistance machines
  • cables/pulley for triceps
  • back lift on the half ball

Either this afternoon or tomorrow I'll do my at-home strength training.

Menu:

  • B:  porridge/blueberries/skimmed milk, tea w/milk
  • S:  post workout boost:  2 oatcakes & pb
  • L:  2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice low fat cheddar on 2 slices soya/linseed bread; 1 packet of baked crisps
  • S:  1 of the giant cookies, then baked the brownies and did taste testing - batter, brownies.... oink.   Somehow didn't get to the clementines on my menu
  • D:  chickpea curry & rice, salad, drink
  • S:  umm....think I already had it
  • Teas & water

TOTAL:  anybody's guess

Progress as of today: 32.6 lbs lost so far, only 6.4 lbs to go!

That was nice of you to bake for the family. I am sure they will appreciate it. Just remember, it is only a temporary side track. I don't foresee you eating brownie batter everyday, do you? Good work out this morning. I hope your visit can be uplifting. Hugs {{{}}}}}

Baking a batch of brownies would have me doing the same thing. In fact, it happened to me on Friday night. So kind of you to take the family the treats.

You've had a very emotional event happen to you right after coming back from a long vacation, so its gonna take time to get yourself in the groove again. You are already on your way, since you've gotten back into your exercise routine. Just keep trucking and cut yourself some slack as you heal from your recent loss. Hugs to you!

I'm late to the game on this but so sorry to hear about the loss of that little girl. I'm sure this has been a difficult time for you and considering that I think you are doing great. So nice of you to bake some treats for the family :)
