Hey people,  i'm back and my head's in a much better place than it's been for a few weeks :-)  I'd be lying if I said I still weigh what it says on my current weight but thankfully I'm not far off it so I'm not going to make myself miserable by updating it. I'll just leave it as it is til I catch up again :-)  I have been through a stressful few weeks, particularly at work where we have been out on strike and I was stood on the picket line in protest at the government making big changes to my future pension !! These are worrying times !  However I am going to try and put it all behind me in the run up to the festive season and try to make this Christmas a good one. Tomorrow is the first of a series of Christmas lunches I am attending so probably will be over the calories . Thank goodness it only comes once a year :-)

 

Just thought I'd put up a photo of me at a union protest march. It was freezing and I had about four layers of clothing on. Now you know the sort of stuff I have been doing in my absence!!  The walk did me good though, with my 30,000 friends!

Good pic, Anne - Give 'em the old what for - these ARE worrying times everywhere. Good for you not giving up and just chaulking it up to experience. All the better for it. Hey people ;-)

 

Hope you are all doing well. i am struggling to stick with my good eating habits just at the moment but I am still putting in a lot of effort.  i am walking at least an hour a day, Mon -Fri so I am still feeling pretty fit. I can run for the bus quite easily now :-).  I bought a couple of new tops today, for work, and I am still in the smaller size that I reached a few weeks ago so i'm happy about that. The only thing I am not doing is actually losing any weight. It'll come again though I'm sure. I wouldn't mind losing, say, five punds before Christmas, just so I could relax a little over the holiday period. Thats seems unlikely though, what with all the Christmas festivities we have coming up at work.

Hi Anne. I relate to what you are saying. I'm not doing tee-totally awfully, but not that good, either. I will get back on track more consistently, though, and I know you will, too. EVERY day can't be perfect. It's good to have ups and downs along the way, I've come to believe just as long as we do have the downs (on the scale)! Interesting you and I are just about the same weight (as yours is posted above) so maybe we can support each other pound for pound so to speak - LOL!

Congrats on how well you have been doine this year...I just looked over at your chart to the right and see how consistant you have been each month. I thought that you probably very well WILL BE down 5 more by Christmas at the rate you've been going. :-D You must be very happy being in a smaller size when you were shopping today also. :-D Just be MINDFUL when eating during the holiday festivities...but I know you will...you are doing VERY WELL. :-)

Good to see an update--running for the bus and new clothes:-) Keep it up!

RYC: Funny you asked about the sleep, because the two nights before last night I only got 5 hours one night and 5.5 the other, but I was rested--I slept the entire time. A few days before that I was getting more hours. I think it's a mixed bag as to how caffeine affects me.

Sorry I didn't post over the weekend but I've been stuck in bed with a virus and today's the first time I could face the light of the computer screen!  I don't have any good news either. I am still stuck on my little plateau but I'm bending my mind to solving this small setback. I think I may be AWOL for a few weeks while I get sorted out in my head but don't worry. I will be back well before Christmas and hopefully back to my losing ways.  I think a lot of the problem is that although I have been keeping to the healthy eating guideline set out by the dietician to help with my blood glucose problem, I am not really keeping my calories overly low. I need to find ways to lower them so I am still eating healthily whilst at the same time eating low enough to lose a little fat!! Because of the virus I've been coping with since before the weekend I've not done any exercise but at least that is something that will be resolved as  soon as I am properly back on my feet :-)

 

I hope you are all doing well and as soon as I feel up to it I will be reading diaries again. I'm just doing a bit of searching for simple, interesting and low calorie vegetarian meal ideas, preferable something I can do in one pan !!  Be good !

Quorn has some nice menus on their site. Do you ever buy it? Soaks up the flavours of whatever you cook with it. Low cal as well. We have curries, chili, etc made with it. Hope you are feeling better soon.

This just a horrible time of year for trying to get in the swing of things. I know some people can just keep on keepin' on, but I'm not one of them at this point.

You can skip the additions of olive oil and parmesan to keep the cals lower.

you have lost 40 pounds since March so a little plateau seems normal especially since you are not feeling well. I am positive that when you feel better and get up to get some exercise you will begin to lose again.

I love doing veggie stirfrys and mixing in a vegetarian meat substitute or edamame for protein. You could also do egg white scrambles/omelets using by sauteing your favorite veggies (I like spinach, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms) in a pan. Once they are to your liking, set them aside on a plate and cook your egg whites. You can scramble them or make them omelet style. Put the veggies in and top with 1/2 to 1 serving of shredded cheese. To saute veggies and cook eggs, just take time to measure out a healthy cooking oil like olive oil or canola. These are good fats your body needs, so all you have to be responsible for is making sure to use the proper amount. Another thing you can do is homemade broth-based soups.

This is the first time since I came back to DDs that I havent had a loss to report. I suppose it could have been worse. I've had a hungry week this week and my routine was changed a bit too so I missed one of my walks from work. I also had a day trip to Wales with my sister to contend with when we ate out twice. That's always a tricky one to deal with. Whatever,  I will be back on the straight and narrow and raring to go again in the coming week.

Nothing much to report this week. We had rainy weather for a few days but yesterday was bright and today is bright but chilly. I have put washing out and I'm hoping it will dry in the breeze despite the drop in temperature. I took a couple of days off this week and I have started my Christmas shopping in earnest :-)  I've just stripped Sarah's bed and put the bedclothes in the washer. She is coming home from Uni next weekend to celebrate a friends 21st birthday and I want her bedroon spic and span ready for her. I am feeling quite energised at the moment. I have been sleeping better since I gave up cola and started drinking decaf tea.

Just thought I'd add a couple of pics I've just taken of the cheeky sparrows on my bird feeder. They are trying for the world record for how many can eat from one tiny feeder at a time LOL :-) The second picture is the rest of them in a queue to jump on the feeder !!

At last I have cause for a double celebration :-)  I am in the 160s at last and my BMI has come out of the obese category YAY !!!  If I wasn't such a shortie (5ft 3in)  I would have been out of obese awhile ago. I've often thought that I'm not too heavy, I'm just far too short !!!   I think that if I can get to my goal of 150 I would probably change it to 135 or something which would be a better target for my height but I would be thrilled to get down to the 150 :-)  I hope you are all doing well and have a great weekend !

I love Bergen Linseed and soya bread! Less calories than my bread machine stuff - my slice today was 163 cals and quite heavy so only needed one. I might go with the Bergen again for sandwiches.

Football (fitba) is the most popular game in my house. My hub has played since he could walk (or so he says) and he played on the uni teams. Still good and he's nearly 63! NO cheese in my house except for very occasionally diet slices for sandwiches. So when it's set right in front of me it's a toughie!

Strangely, after  one of the most awful summer's on record we are having a mini heatwave here in the UK this week. It has been absolutely glorious for the last few days with blue skies and sunshine, temperatures up in the high 70s f.  My only problem is that I have had to work all through it. We have been incredibly busy in the library where I work because it is the week after fresher's week and traditionally the time when all returning students bring any books back that they took home for the summer, and the freshers  come in to find out what the library is all about. The workload has been relentless. I have been on my feet the whole week and, combined with the weather this has resulted in my having swollen ankles and hands !!  because of this, and the fact that my weightloss has slowed down a lot I decided not to weigh myself this week, as I would have been really disappointed if it looked as if I'd put weight on because I was retaining water. I will weigh myself next week probably, and every couple of weeks thereafter.

 

i hope you are all having a great weekend. Will try and catch up with diaries tomorrow :-)

Well, that's typical isn't it!! Rotten summer and as soon as you are working, the sun comes out!!!! Yep, I wouldn't weigh myself either, sounds like you are saving up water, drink lots of water, strangely enough it helps with water retention and feet up at night. I have all the Dune collection and just love that world, escapism at it's best!!

Tarnation I didn't make it into the 160s !! 

I swear I stepped on the scale gingerly this morning and it hovered on 169.5 before dashing all my hopes by wobbling back to 170 !!  I've had a good week however, food and exercise wise, so I won't complain. I will just put  a little more effort in next week to be certain of getting there. My calories have been decent all week but I reckon they have averaged over 1600 for every day. I will try and get them under 1500 every day next week.  In May I wrote down what I was hoping to lose each month and as of this weekend I am only two pounds higher than my original target for the end of this month. I think I have kept to it pretty well. I am only eight pounds away from the weight I got down to at this time in 2007 before I lost the plot. This time I hope to do much better :-)

I didn't have a great healthy week this week so I was expecting (at best) to stay the same. No-one was more surprised than me to see another pound gone when I stepped on the scales. As you know from my last post I slipped a little last weekend and , because my daughter went back to uni and I missed her, I have been doing a little grazing from the fridge all week. On Thursday at work one of my colleagues brought some belgian chocolates in from a trip to Bruges and I scoffed a few of those down too. I know  that I won't be able to get away with this for any length of time so I'm  back on the wagon now!! Unfortunately it's my birthday today but I will only eat a small portion of cake!!

This week is the first week of our new semester so the TTOs (term time only staff) have returned after 14 weeks off. A few off them have been very complimentary about my weightloss in the time they've been off but one young woman asked me if I'd been on a silly starvation diet or something. The cheek of it. I felt like saying 'Of course I have because I'm not a sensible 57 year old woman, I'm the idiot you obviously think I am!!'  I wouldn't mind so much if she  wasn't as skinny as a rake!!  I am now within touching distance of my BMI leaving the obese range and becoming merely overweight (169lbs)  Cant wait!

Just thought I'd update with a photo of the cake hubby bought me. Luckily it was only a couple of inches square plus we shared it !! That's my laptop keyboard behind it to put it in perspective :-)

Uh.. Happy Birthday first of all! I haven't been on here in a while so you don't know me but congrats on the loss! Its crazy how good losing one pound feels! Definitely have a great time on your birthday. As far as that rude woman is concerned, its just good that you are able to step back and realize that some people have a problem with putting themselves in others shoes, not aware that what they are saying IS RUDE! Keep those negative comments in the dust and keep it up to reach 169! Good luck!

Beautiful cake and happy birthday to you again! You know get right back on the habits Monday and take advantage that perhaps you squeeked by a week and continued to lose. I have found lately that I am holding my own although I am eating a good bit more - but it's health stuff AND I am sleeping more soundly - unfortunately the sleep comes because husband is sleeping in guest bedroom due to his snoring! We have to work on this. :o)

What a test of patience to work under someone that much younger--takes lots of grace at the very least;-)

I hope that doesn't come off as insensitive, but I was just remarking to a friend that the generation gap of my teens and twenties seemed to be SOOOO much more narrow than what I seem to experience. Oh well.

I have dropped another pound this week but I have NOT had a good and healthy weekend. last night at my grand-neice's 18th birthday party I gave in and had a few glasses of the old vino, and ate lots of goodies (or should that be baddies??). Today my eldest son and I ran my daughter back to her University in Wales, and we always break the journey at a small coastal resort and eat a takeaway lunch on the beach, usually something with chips (that's french fries to you folks from the US). I also brought more sweet stuff back with me for my hubby who's bithday it is today.  I will be back n the straight and narrow tomorrow when I get back into the routine at work but I doubt if I will be losing any weight at my next weigh-in. Now that the weight-loss is down to a small amount per week I might start weighing in less often, perhaps once every two weeks, or even once a month.

How many years has she been there and what is she majoring in? The takeaway lunch on the beach sounds like fun, too. Well...enjoy yourself.
