Hi everyone :) Thanks for your lovely comments on the holiday snaps I put up. They are much appreciated. I faced my moment of truth this morning, and despite the fact that I did not cut back dramatically on the amount I ate, simply went for the healthier option where possible I have managed to drop by 1.5 lbs in the last week. I was amazed really. Just goes to show that only small changes are needed to make a difference. I have noticed also that I have been feeling much more comfortable when going to bed, not bloated or anything. Yay for me :) !!!

Unfortunately I am laid up at the moment with a heavy cold, and sore throat so I am doing even less exercise than usual. These things happen, and I'm sure that I can take it my stride and be back to normal in a couple of days. Hubby is keeping me supplied with cups of tea to stop my throat from feeling dry. Good man. I will comment on more posts tomorrow when, hopefully I will be feeling a little more like myself. Bye for now :)

Great pictures, even tho it did look a bit nippy out there. Ithe pics makde me think of a song with the words "I'll take the high road, and you take the low road and I'll be in Scotland before ye - For me and my true love will never meet again on the bonny, bonny banks of Loch Lomond." A little ditty me and my mother used to sing (words are the best of my recollection) along with an old record on the phonograph when I was really little! Talk about a walk down memory lane!!!

Anyway, dear, so sorry to hear you are feeling bad. Yuck. Hope you are feeling better soon. It's great, though that you lost the 1.5 and your comment about just little changes being effective is so true. Good going - welcome back - so glad to see your posts. God bless. Holly

This is the third and final photo I am uploading. I am sorry they are a bit big. This was the view out of our hotel window. The loch is Loch Long. It's very quiet even though it is not far from Glasgow, which is one of Scotland's largest cities. We managed to do a lot of walking, mainly in the paths in the Argyll Forest. Very picturesque :)

I think dh and I took a ride on Loch Lommond last year. We were in Scotland last summer -- boy that seems so far away, such a long time ago :-( -- the only week that it didn't rain. I cannot believe that this summer has been even wetter than last, because last year, everyone was saying how bad and dangerous the weather had become. (Thankfully we did not go to Ireland because they had non-stop rain, so it would seem.)

I miss you and I am glad that you are back posting on DD. It's very comforting to look and say, "Oh look, greengirl has been here." :-)

Hiya Anne,When i first saw the pics i thought it was Lake Windemere.It looks lovely.I have only been to Scotland once with an ex to Gretna,no i did'nt get married!!We have'nt been away this year,with having the house done it took longer and cost more than anticipated plus having Alfie.I would want to take him with us so it would have to be a short-ish drive away,Yorkshire is about an hour and a half away,we'll see.Is'nt the weather bloody awful,we where going to see the musical fireworks championships around the marine lake but i don't think so, i guess more cals will be consumed this eve.Till next time,Julie

Oh dear. This was Sarah and I on a boat trip on Loch Lomond. The weather was fairly appalling that day, hence the windswept look !! The only reason I am smiling is because I had a wee drop or two of whisky on that trip, and they dont call it the water of life for no good reason Lol :)

It has been a very grim day weatherwise, here in the northwest UK. Torrential rainshowers from morning til night, and it hardly brightened up at all. I hate it when it's like that. We are having a review at work too, with a view to staff restructuring so that is fairly grim too. I am trying to keep positive but days like today make it difficult. Not been 100% good, but not dreadful either. Must try harder tomorrow !(Thats what it used to say on my school reports !)

Saturday mornings are going to be my moments of truth, my weekly weigh-in day. I must remember to buy a battery for my scales before then as I notice it is telling me 'lo'

Hey Anne! It's me - hollybelle. My new name is A NEW HB (hollybelle)I've been missing in action, myself - tree fell on house in June and still working to get it put back straight. Probably won't post much next 2-3 weeks as some of the hardest part is coming up. But was so glad to see your post. I have not time to exercise, these days, but I will SOON, I hope. Hey folks, it's me again. I have been good on the food front today, but I would have liked to get out for a walk around campus during my lunchbreak. Unfortunately it teemed down with rain so I gave it a miss. I am going to get my little stepper out again and do a few minutes a time whilst watching tv again. I think I will also get up half an hour earlier in the morning, and do a little on my static step before breakfast. It is the exercise where I am failing.

At work it is like a madhouse. Here in the UK it is the week after Freshers week and all the students are making their way into the library, and I have been giving them pin numbers, encode cards for various services, show them how to use the various machines, tell them where the loos are and answer a million and one other queries. All this before they ever set eyes on an actual book !!!

It is not quite 7pm here and I am not going to eat anything else tonight. I will love you and leave you, and will be back soon :)

Sorry I havent managed to do too much commenting tonight, my husband keeps mithering me about his failing ipod !!

Hiya Anne,Re-Squirrels,I have'nt really noticed anything,when we have been to the pinewoods i have only seen the odd 1 or 2.I can't remember i think it was last week i saw a grey one,are they the bad ones??Did you see that on the news about La Princess the mechanical spider it looked brilliant.I saw a docu about it and they have a mechanical elephant that goes around france.I tell you the programme i like at the mo is the secret millionare(if only)Did Sarah get sorted with a uni,she was looking at Bangor was'nt she,not too far to bring her washing home!!!!Was'nt that weather yesterday awful,you do want comfort food when you look through he window and see that.Keep up the good work Anne,till next time Julie.

Thanks for the welcome back, folks. I truly missed you, and your support. I have made a good start today, eating only healthy food, without trying to starve myself. I dug out my little stepping machine, and used it for several five minute stints whilst watching 'Strictly Come Dancing' on the TV. It has been a beautiful day here in the UK, really makes you feel like putting in the effort. I havent had a lot of time to read other peoples posts yet but I fully intend to jump in and offer my support to everyone again. Good luck to us all tomorrow. It is almost 9pm here and the National Lottery is on TV now. Keep your fingers crossed for me ??

Dont hold your breath, I only had one number on the lottery !! Shucks !!

good luck with the lotto! haha, i alsmost never gamble because my luck is sooo bad! glad to hear you are getting back into.

one suggestion, do it for yourself and post your weight. it will HELP you get on track just to see it there. i have kept it at zero in the past only to stay at whatever my current weight was even longer. post when it goes up or it will keep going up! LOL

Hey people, you know I cant stay away from here for too long. I think its time to get my act together. For anyone who doesnt remember me I joined here over two years ago. In the first year I lost 60 lbs ish (cant remember exactly)and I felt great .

In the second year I lost the plot and have put most of it back on. I have no real excuse for why I did it. I cant explain why !! I obviously did a hell of a lot of overeating and very little exercise (that much at least is true).

Finally I have got it straight in my head again. For the sake of my health, and happiness, I need to lose weight. At the moment I am feeling pain in my knees that had disappeared when I dropped the weight. There is no point in me whining about how disgusted I am with myself, and all that guff !! What I will say is that, come Christmas time I want to weigh 20lb less than I do now.

PS I already feel better, just for getting that off my chest :)

Hiya Again,I have'nt told hubby that i want the lap band fitted.I am not frightened about the op, as i had my gallbladder removed a few years back, it's the recovery afterwards or if anything goes wrong i could'nt take alot of time off work plus i would'nt want everyone knowing what i had done,probably cos i would feel like a failure.I think that would be my last resort,if i can get some stronger reductil and monitoring which the docs have to do cos your bp can go up with them.I have been on the lower dose before and lost loads of weight,this time round they don't seem to be working.I want to pick your brains ,i am thinking of getting older daughter a laptop for xmas have you heard any bad reports of Acer laptops tesco's had a good deal,i have had this dell one for 4yrs now with no probs,but i suppose it's what you pay for is'nt it.I will catch you up tomorrow,hopefully with a good day for both of us,Julie

Hey everyone, I'm still here or hereabouts. Things with me are much as they were last time I posted. I have been neither good, nor bad and stayed the same as I was. I have been really busy. We are visiting universities checking them out for Sept 2009. My daughter has to apply sometime before the end of this year to get a place for next year, and then we have all the financial issues to sort out. It is a bit of a logistics nightmare. I will post a photograph of the university we visited last Saturday. It is in Wales, and is called Bangor, its very quaint. My daughter went with schoolfriends to visit Oxford Uni, and she thinks she will look at Edinburgh and Exeter. In two weeks she is spending a day at Liverpool Uni so she will nearly be in your neck of the woods, Julie :) I hope this will update, I have been having technical problems too, recently.

Sorry this post isnt really about the healthy eating !!

Progress as of today: 41 lbs lost so far, only 6 lbs to go!

Just curious, but how far away is Oxford from where you live? My hubby went there for awhile for an overseas study program and still talks about how wonderful that experience was!

We had a fantastic day at the RaceForLife last Sunday, and my colleague and I have raised more than �650 (about $1300) between us for Cancer Research UK. The weather was mild, but the sky was overcast so it was actually ideal conditions for the 5km. We stayed with the 1000 or so ladies who opted to walk. My workmate has never done a great deal of exercise so we decided to opt for the easier option. We finished the 5k (3.1mile) in just under 50 minutes, and it took us at least 10 of those minutes to escape from the massive crowd of people taking part. What is strange is that although I weigh a lot more than I did this time last year, I felt fitter doing the race than I did last year ???

The first thing I thought when I saw the photos of us though was, I have to lose the weight again !! I can see a massive difference in photos of me from last summer and the photos I had taken last Sunday. Its probably the first time I have had full length photos taken since before last Christmas and it is very frustrating to see clearly how much weight I have put back on.

Oh well, onward and upward !! There is only myself who can do anything about this so I must get my nose to the grindstone. Now I'm off to read some diaries. I'll keep in touch :)

PS I'm the chubby one in the middle, as some of you might recognise ! Ignore the date on the photo, by the way, the camera isnt set right !!

Progress as of today: 41 lbs lost so far, only 6 lbs to go!

although you may have gained weight, it is true you could be physically stronger with more muscle. and i want to say you look truly happy and healthy in frame of mind here! that will do a lot to help you with your weightloss! congrats on finishing the walk! great time.

Hey Greenie! Its so nice to see you getting back on track again. I'm finally jumping back on the bandwagon once and for all. I decided to join a gym that requires me to show up at least 3 times per week! So, for now, I will be forcing myself to work out. Im sure, like I did before, that I will grow to love exercise again...especially when I start fitting into my old skinny clothes again! I just want to be as healthy as I can be for my family. I have to live a long time to watch my little boy (and a second child one day) grow up! :o)
