Hello friends,

Its been a while but I'm not hiding away, I've just been strangely busy and not really had much time for myself. I have been doing ok too. Managed to lose a couple of pounds again and I have got a little exercise done. Last week, when there was a break in the awful weather I managed to get out and had a brisk walk around campus on a couple of days. Took about 20 minutes and when I checked it on Mapmyrun.com I'd gone about 1.2 miles. All is not lost and I'm hoping by summer to have clawed back what I have put on in the last few months. I havent had time to check out diaries so please forgive me for not leaving comments for you regulars. I will try to get some done this coming weekend, I know how important it is to be giving support as well as receiving it. Have a great week, people :)

Yasmine is adorable! And you look great in your picture too, no matter how much weight you put on back then. I am somewhat new here, but I see your chart and even though you say you have gained some weight lately, all I can see is that you lost almost 50 lbs overall! amazing! :)

Hi--glad to see an update--keep plugging away!

Just wanted you to notice something on your graph (upper L corner one)--next month the 181 will be GONE! (I just noticed this on mine--my first and last month match and I hope I will continue the downward slope!)

Hey--it's something to look forward to--by then your weather will have to be warmer and brighter overall!

It's great to hear from you again. I love reading your entries! I think by summer you will be back in the game. Not to make excuses, so please take no offense, but it is AWFULLY difficult to lose weight in the winter time. First the shorter days. Secondly, the cooler weather. Then, the holidays. Next the even colder weather and the precipitation. Ugh, will summer ever come our way?

Hi everyone. As most of you have probably guessed, I have really been struggling in the past couple of weeks and inevitably have put weight back on. Today has been the first day that I have felt really better, after suffering with a virus. I just couldnt throw the effects off, and I seem to have passed it on to other people too. My daughter had to have two days off this week, and my superviser at work has had the last three days off!!!

Don't worry about me though. I am ready to get back down to business. It is the evenings that are doing the damage. Too tired to exercise but ready to eat my head off.

Tomorrow is another day, and I will get the old treadmill out and give it my all. I will do a sweep of the supermarket and buy a weeks worth of healthy food. I wish the weather would improve so I could get out around campus in my lunch break. I'm sure it would make all the difference.

Thanks for your support and concern even though I have been AWOL, and Julie I really wish I lived nearer to you and could have you as a walking buddy !! That would be perfect. Will catch up with you all soon. Have a great weekend :)

I'm so sorry you are struggling. Virus cannot be fun. I have a cold; it is agonizingly inconvenient. I know that once you are feeling healthier you will be able to get down to your program and get the job done.

Hello! Getting out at your lunch break will definitely make a difference. Funny thing is, I would like to get out on my lunch break, but I am just too hungry and exhasted. So, i just can't. Sometimes, I walk home for lunch but then i have less time to relax so i mostly just eat the lunch I prepare and take with me to work.

Hiya Anne,I knew you where struggling that's why you where not posting cos that's what i do.Set yourself a date you are going to start and stick to it.I was the worlds worst serial foodaholic and somehow I've turned it round as i had it in my head after my birthday i was seriously going to knuckle down.Just consentrating on exercising at the weekend if your too tired in the week.When this wind dies down get a short walk in your lunch,have you anyone to go with??But don't go past any sweet shops!!I will wait for your return,Bye Julie

That's just a double whammy--you've got to really be feeling good to want to exercise. I'm glad you're checking in from time to time. Don't do too much too soon! Wish I could send some of the weather we're supposed to have in the next couple of days. I'm sure we'll be in for another round of dreary and cold (what it's been for a couple of weeks).

Take good care of yourself--I hope you feel back in the swing soon!

Gee - I know JUST what you mean about being too tired in the evenings to exercise but ready to eat my head off. I am not sure what is up with that, although I think I was trying to "catch something" and that is my body's way of dealing with it. I think I might have dodged the bullet of the virus because I'm feeling better now and have been fighting the eating bug by deciding to clean out all drawers and closets in the house (check out my posts - I'm on a missions- LOL!). I am someone who needs routine to be successful and your job change seems to have interupted your flow. Hope you get in new routine soon. Looking forward to more posts from you and GLAD you are finally feeling better. I have gained weight back, too - and I find myself trying to be discouraged, but that's just failure talking and when I think how miserable I was before I at least kept trying to be healthier....well, even this weight gain beats not giving it a go - even if I don't get back down to where I was. Hang in there. Better weather must be on it's way!

Thought I'd better update as people have been wondering where I have been (thanks, Maria, it's nice to know I have been missed :) ).

Unfortunately I had a relapse with the virus I was trying to fight off last week and have had to have another three days off work this week. I have done no exercise and have eaten all sorts of stuff so I have been actively avoiding getting on the bathroom scales. I doubt if I will have good news for you this week. At the moment I feel as though I am swallowing past a lump in my throat, and my throat and chest are burning with me keep coughing and clearing my throat. I feel rough !!! I have a couple of swollen lymph nodes, so I am assuming that my body is trying to fight off the infection. I went to the doctors on Wednesday to have my IUD removed, and the doctor says that all I can do for the virus is keep up with the fluids and get as much rest as possible, and it will eventually come to an end.

I am hoping that I will be well enough to be back at work on Monday, and back in my normal routine. I have not spent a lot of time on the computer because looking at the screen was giving me a headache. I will catch up with you all when I am feeling better. Hope you are all doing better than I am ! (How pathetic do I sound ?? ) Keep up the good efforts, people )

I am glad you're back. Sorry you are feeling so ill. I understand about feeling pathetic. I went hrough a pathetic spell myself a few months back. est suggestion I have is once you get over the virus try to think of something that would make you feel good about yourself and do it. I came up with the fact that I only feel best when I cam taking care of myself and that has ind of spilled over to purging my house. In the process of cleaning stuff out. I think there may be something to the Feng Fui after all! Come back and let us know how you are doing soon!

Hey everyone. Happy weekend to you all.

I am feeling much better now, have lost the dizzy, unbalanced feelings so I have got back on the treadmill today, and I'm feeling a lot happier for it. I did 40 mins fast walking (about 2.5 miles) and followed it up with stretching exercises. I want to get back in a fit enough condition to run 5 kms in June, for charity.

I have been good with calories today, but when I was feeling ill I didnt write down what I was eating, or count cals. I think I should be OK though. I have been trying to pamper my skin a little since Christmas. I had a lot of cosmetic/toiletry type sets for Chrissy and am determined to use them this year instead of collecting them on my dressing table. I have a few jars of body butter which I have been using on my legs, knees, elbows etc. I will have soft skin if it kills me !!! My hands also are going to get the treatment but I confess that I bite my nails. Will get round to improving those too, eventually. I'm feeling very positive at the moment and that's gotta be a good thing, isnt it.

MUst go now, so have a great weekend and keep up the good work :o)

Glad to see you got back on the treadmill. I am planning to start the couch-to-5k program next week as I too am commited to running a 5k this year. (The PR person at work is planning a 5k to raise funds in May - and she is really pushing me to participate. i think I can get in good enough shape by then - the couch-to-5k program really does seem doable, even for me!)

Thank goodness you are feeling better! The skin care is a great idea. I like to paint my nails with dark polish because it makes short nails look really nice and then when they look nice, I don't bite them. I'll even go and get my stubby nails manicured once in a while. Have fun taking care of your skin and nails!

Sorry for the "old lady" comments. I'll try to keep those at a minimum in the future. It's just that I am struck by my age as I don't feel that old sometimes. Sometimes it seems I'm surrounded by younger people everywhere I go. Just saw your picture. The baby is adorable! How cute she is. But you look good, too. I gain ALL my weight in between my bust and my hips mostly on the front of my body for some reason - all in the belly. I have to say it has been a struggle to not get down about the re-gain I have experienced but it is so counter productive. I keep telling myself I can't think like that - begative thoughts do not breed success. Also - it's not going to come back off in a week or two, but maybe 3 or 4 weeks, now that is another story. I am trying to think long-term and eat good things and get plenty of activity in the meantime. I have been trying to reminid myself that I may not be at the lowest I was, but I'm certainly not the highest, either and I can chose to lament that fact or get on with my life working toward better health. I have to have these little talks with myself every day. LOL So glad you are feeling better. Bad virus! Jump back in with caution 'til your sure you are up to snuff. The skin pampering is a great idea.

I'm sorry I've not been around much recently but I have picked up a virus and I am off work, sick. I am doing my best but feeling dizzy which has spoiled my exercise regime, and relying on the kindness of family to make food for me. Its not always the healthiest stuff that they produce for me, but they are doing their best, bless 'em . I'm hoping to hold steady this week and get back down to it when I am fully recovered. I keep having a fleeting look at diaries, but cant concentrate for long. Will post again soon :O)

Well I had my first post-New Year weigh-in today and was down 3lbs. I know some of this is water weight and I feel a lot better for losing the bloating!!! Next week will be a truer test of how I am doing I think. I thought my mad binge last night would make a mess of things but ultimately it didnt have a lot of effect. Today is my first exercise free day for a week but I will be back on the machines tomorrow. Calories and water good today, and I was quite busy at work. I am trying to always use the stairs if I have to go and check on a copier that is malfunctioning, just to get a bit more exercise in. Thanks for the very kind comments on the photo I put up last night. They are much appreciated :o). ***HUGS*** to you all my friends

Oh Anne - I so love that wonderful "I'm not bloated feeling"!!! I am starting to get it, too and it's so great. You know when my daughter went off for the summer program at college right here in our own town for 3 weeks I was a mess missed her so. I just kept thinking - she is intelligent, she has been raised right, she will do OK. Why is it they worry us to death when they are around but it's so much worse when they are not there!! I think the worry gene gets activated in the delivery room!!

Another quickie tonight as I have had a lot to do today and it is 10.38pm now.

I wish I could say I have had a good day and was looking forward to my weigh-in tomorrow. In fact if I had written this at 5pm I could have written just that. I had been perfectly good until then. It was just after then that my son told us that he was moving out tonight !!!

Now I would be lying if I said that I didnt know he was planning to move. He has been telling us for months that he was going to move into a house that some friends of his have been renting for a few years. He was waiting for one of the housemates to move out. It's not as if he is a baby - he is 22 years old, but he is my baby and when he suddenly said today is the day I went to pot. I didnt try to stop him or anything. In fact I packed him a couple of bags of groceries, and provided him with toiletries, and towels, and bedding. But my stress levels hit the roof and while he was packing his clothes I ate my way through a stack of shortcake biscuits and chocolates, and then a thickly buttered white bread sandwich which I wouldnt normally think of eating. Now I have only got one baby (17 yr old) left at home, and I have a bad case of indigestion. I had been feeling so good about myself today too!!! I had totally lost the bloated feeling that appeared over Christmas and I know I had lost weight on the scales. Now I must wait and see what damage I have done. I must have scoffed literally hundreds and hndreds of cals in a short space of time.

Ive included a photo to show you the dreadful truth about how much weight Ive put on. It was taken today, and is of me and my great-niece Yasmine age three and a half months :o) All the weight gain seems to be round my belly and bosom!!!

OHHH, the agony. My 17 year old shuffles between my house and his dad's, and every time he leaves, a little piece of my heart breaks off. In a few months he takes off for college. I know, it is a terrible empty feeling and then, no matter if they're 50, you always worry about them. But now is your time. You look good in the pic, my weight is all in my "gut". I took a pic, but I look so rolly polly. I want to keep track of the change. Keep up the good work.

Good evening everyone it has been a little warmer here today, but it has rained earlier too, so its been a little miserable. Thanks for your comments on the shower situation. My biggest worry was what might have happened between the water and the electricity if we hadnt noticed right away but now it is mainly just inconvenient. Using a shower makes it so much easier to wash and rinse your hair. I do worry about the plaster on the walls too, but as they are covered in wallpaper it's difficult to assess if there is any damage.

This morning I had the treadmill out. I did my first two miles in 31 mins 22 secs which is just over half a minute faster than last week. Last year when I was using the treadmill five times a week I was doing three miles in less than forty minutes. I slowed down after the two mile and ended up on about two and a half miles in a few seconds over forty minutes. I really enjoyed it. That makes my exercise tally for the last week treadmill sunday, monday and tuesday, glider wednesday , thursday and friday, and treadmill again today. My calories were just over 1600 and I drank my water target too, so all in all I had a good day. In fact I have had a good year so far !!! I will wait and see what the scales say on Monday. OK, you (and most everyone else) is putting me to shame on the exercise....I must say, Anne, your exercise reports have been just stellar!!! My behind is a draggin' for some reason I am just so reluctant these days. I WANT to exercise, btu somehow I just put it off until I don't do it. First things first from now on. I told Julie this morning I would do some kind of exercise or else, but oh no...Haven't done it yet. But it's only about 6:30 here and the eliptical trainer calls......maybe, just maybe........

Your exercise efforts are outstandingly brilliant! I'm kind of like Hollybelle's comment: "I just put it off until I don't do it". However, I have high hopes for this coming week. Thank you for the pic of the glider-strider thing! I love that thing because I can use it with or without the added hydrolics. So sorry about the bathroom disaster. I hope after it is fully assessed that it isn't necessary to rob a bank :)

wow that's some great mileage on the treadmill! or rather, really great speeds! My speed on the treadmill has slowed to a halt, i'm not sure why. I sometimes do below 3.0. however, i do continuously change the incline. lol. i guess i just need to do it more, like you said!

I'm about to go hop onto the treadmill. I usually aim for an estimated calorie burn of 350 (yes, I know it's not accurate, but it's a goal to shoot for). That usually takes me about 35 minutes. I've been playing with speeds and inclines to get the calories to burn faster. LOL I think I'll just shoot for getting two miles done and see how long it takes me to do just that.

Now it is weekend and I have less reason to go to bed early I will explain more about the slight domestic emergency we had yesterday. Our shower is over the bath, with a curtain that pulls across, rather than in a cubicle. There is a seal between the bath and surrounding wall, and the entire wall area is tiled to be watertight. Yesterday morning, unbeknownst to me, the seal had cracked and when I had my shower at 7.15am the water ran down the wall , through the seal,through the floor and through into the hall below, right down an electric light pendant. I hadnt noticed it and went to work, but luckily my husband spotted it. The light fitting has had it, and cant be replaced until everything has dried out. Upstairs we have to wait for the area to dry out before the seal can be replaced. Hence no showers until further notice !!!

I have had a moderately good day, calories a little high at about 1700, did 20 minutes on my glider, drank all the water. My biggest problem is that my new job is a lot more sedentary than the one I was doing before, so I am using less calories up. I am going to use the treadmill tomorrow. I will have to give my current regime a month and see how it goes, before making any drastic changes to it. Have a good weekend folks :O)

Progress as of today: 47 lbs lost so far, only 30 lbs to go!

Oh nooo..water leaks are such a pain! I think it is a really good idea to test-drive a routine and them re-evaluate at 30 days. Have a great weekend!

Yeah I too went from a more active job to an office desk job and it is quite a transition because you dont get that extra burn in all day...but you can compensate and still be successful! Have a good weekend!

Hiya Anne,I hate it when something goes wrong around the house all i see is ���� signs in my eyes.I'm going to get weighed every month i've decided,my first priority is getting fit again.It's so cold walking,i think that's what did my head yesterday although i have my hood up.Have you got time to go for a walk in your lunch break??,wrap up though.You probably do more walking than me as i drive,you get very lazy indeed when you have a car but things are improving slightly.Till next time,Julie

you work in a library right? I know this librarian who always gets the books for people when they are looking - she takes it as an opportunity to get up. My suggestion is to try to use every little opportunity, if there are any, to actually get up rather than do the job from your seat. If someone needs help, stand up and go to them. If you need to talk to someone, don't call to them, just go walk over. These may not work at your job, but they're some things that can be helpful if they do.

Yikes - close call on the shower. Want to say - don't sell yourself short - the 1700 calories is really spactacular! And the 20 minutes on glider is great. I can relate on the more sedentary job - Mine is too. What I have done and now I don't even think about it anymore is I never take the elevator (don't be too impressed, it's only one story to my office), I always (unless raining very hard) park far away from building and I stand up at my desk from time to time. Not hugh changes, but over time......don't know it any of it's an option for you, but better than nothing.

Hey everyone, this is a bit of a hit and run entry tonight as I got home from work late, and due to a bit of a disaster our shower isnt working so I had to take a bath instead, and by the time I had finished faffing about it was 11.30pm and I have work in the morning !!!

Medium day today - went on the strider, glider thing this morning. I have included a picture of it for dearerdiarist. I dont know if it's like a gazelle. I have heard people talk about their gazelles and have wondered if it is a similar thing??

My cals were a bit higher today, probably close to 2000, as I was fed up because of previously mentioned domestic disaster!! Yes girls I am a comfort eater!!! Drank plenty of water and hubby has bought me a chiller filter thing , which is really cool of him, so I can have nice chilled water now YAY !!!

Will try and read diaries tomorrow night. Weekend can't come quick enough. Love to all :o)

Glad you stopped in for a fast post. Sorry I evidently missed your last one! You have done well the last several days. I think I am turning the corner, too. Just need to get my exercise worked in. The glider, strider thing looks like a gazelle. I think they are kind of fun. Do you have access to music while you do it?

I'm a total comfort eater too!! Something like that would probably send me to the nearest chocolate bar! Good for you for hitting the glider! How difficult is it? I mean, do you get tired easily and where do you feel it most?

I hear ya on the comfort eating! I tend to be a bit of a stress eater. Holidays don't get me for the parties...it's having the whole family home and hubby on vacation for a couple of weeks, that gets me "looking for comfort foods". Now that he's gone back to work, I can get back into my routine...walking the dogs and eating what I need to. :)
