I feel that I've had a good day. It is 8.20 pm here and I have just gone over 1300 cals. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill today too, with the wrist weights on for 30 mins , and the incline up for 15 mins. I'm trying to jazz it up a bit. I have also been out shopping, and I've done a huge pile of ironing. I feel full of beans too (figuratively not literally!!).

I have read a few diaries today, but I really want an early night tonight so I'm calling it a day. Will catch up with you all soon, take care :o)

Progress as of today: 62 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

Sandra aka Soul on 08/27/2007:
Good thing it was figuratively and not literally or you husband would be in for a bumpy night, lol. I was happy to read that you felt the same way about your ex's wife, I also felt uncharitable writing it but I am proud of what I have accomplished...backsliding and all.

Donkey on 08/27/2007:
That's what I need, an early night. I was up at 4:30a for the gym!

Happy to hear that you are full of beans!! That is a great feeling!

Wow, I wonder why we can't always have great days like that?! It sure feels good though. Great job on the exercise too! Thanks for all your comments and have another great day!!

Just a quick post tonight. Been a long day. I have been pretty good. I stayed under 1500 cals until about 9.30pm and then went over by eating a banana. It could have been a lot worse. A banana is good compared to a lot of other stuff I could have eaten like chocs or biscuits (cookies). I got back on the treadmill again today. This time I walked with ankle weights on. I dont know if using the ankle, and wrist weights will help me at all, I just felt I needed to add something to my workouts.

Thanks for the very flattering comments on my garden. It is actually coming to the end of our summer here, but it is always very green in the UK. This is because we have an equable climate. We dont usually get extremes of either heat or cold, and we get plenty of rain. Good for the vegetation !!! This year we had much more rain than usual (causing flooding in many parts of the country) so we are greener than usual :o)

Enjoy your weekend and I will be back with comments soon !

GREAT DAY!!!! YAY!!!!!

WorkingIt2 on 08/26/2007:
Your garden is very pretty. Congrats on a great day! I know that I used to wear the ankle weights when I walked until someone told me that it might be hard on my ankles and knees with the pulling/gravity...sometimes I still wear them, but not as often. I didn't hurt myself at all while wearing them, so I can't say for sure LOL. Great job on only eating the banana! YAY!

I think you are better off with the banana than alot of things - actually I have heard the banana referred to as "the perfect food" because of the nutrients that are in it. Good job!

Hey fellow DDers :o)

Today has been another lovely day weatherwise, here in Manchester, UK. As in parts of the US, there has been appalling storms here this summer, which (I'm sorry to say) have spoiled the garden somewhat. All the rain has meant that foliage plants have flourished but bedding plants, and flowers have suffered. I had potted up lots of summer bulbs, some of which were just starting to flower when the rains came and stayed for weeks on end (wettest summer on record !!). Consequently a lot of the plants died and rotted in their pots.

Now in the sunshine, the only flowers are fairly hardy fuschias, and the honeysuckles have done well. I have uploaded a photo of one of my fuschias that I took yesterday morning. We have a bank holiday weekend this weekend, which means we are off on Monday too !! Hope the weather lasts. I love to sit in the garden drinking tea and reading the papers .

Today was my exercise free day, but I took Sarah for new clothes for when she goes to sixth form college. No uniform this time, but they are expected to wear 'business-smart' clothes !!! We enjoyed a good girlie walk around the shops. Will be back on the treadmill tomorrow. Catch up with you all then :o)

Progress as of today: 62 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/24/2007:
Beautiful flowers! We are due for a few sunny days as well. Hopefully the road to the gym will become un-flooded soon!

Keep working your program!!

Soon2BThin on 08/24/2007:
As I said before about your pictures, your garden looks really nice. Too bad about the rain. Enjoy your long weekend!

hollybelle on 08/25/2007:
How lovely! This must be your Spring season?? Everything is so hot here in KY USA all is brown and "crunchy". I'd like to be drinking tea and reading the paper in that pretty garden, too! Good luck with the shopping with Sarah.

biscottibody59 on 08/25/2007:
Same here in Texas, if it wasn't the wettest on record, it came awfully close--your garden/yard looks great anyway! Oh, and congrats on your DDs anniversary--hope the next year continues with your winning ways!

Have a good one!

Hello, my friends at DD.

I know I have been missing in action for a few days, but dont worry, everything is good in greengirl-land :o). As you may notice I have updated my weight. I wish it was better, but at least I have managed to drop 4 of the five pounds that I put on during my holiday trips. I do feel as though I have wasted the last five weeks. Thats how long it has taken me to put on five pounds and then lose 4 of them again. Well today is my 12month anniversary of joining the site. I started off weighing 227lbs and now I am 165 pounds, so thats a drop of 62 lbs in 52 weeks. Thats not bad really, it averages out at just over a pound per week !!

I have been good since the last time I updated. I have consistently stayed within my calorie targets and done quite a bit of exercise. Today, for example I did 35 mins on the treadmill with an incline of 10%. I have been using wrist weights while I have been walking on the treadmill too as I am trying to tone up my arm muscles at the same time. I have not been walking at speed, as the incline really takes it out of me. Ive probably been doing just under 20 minute miles.

i am going to update my weight next on my birthday in mid-September. I dont want to be weighing myself any more often than that as I have been getting obsessed with the numbers on the scales. Today, however, I decided to update my stats on Sparkpeople.com. I had not been on the site for several weeks and was surprised to find that my weight was exactly the same as the last time I had updated it. The funny thing is, my other stats had changed. When I measured myself I had lost an inch on my waist, my hips and my neck. I can only assume that I have lost fat but gained muscle. i have certainly exercised enough recently to do that. My husband had mentioned recently that he thought my shape was changing, and I think he might be right about that :o)

And now on to my much more exciting news. Today my daughter's GCSE results were given out (not just hers but all the 16 year olds in the country). She needed 5 passes at grades A to C to get into college, but her preferred college had asked for an A grade in maths, and a B grade in English Language and a B grade in History (three of the subjects she is electing to take). Luckily (well actually, as the result of a lot of hard work on her part) she got As in all those subjects. In fact she ended up with 7 A grades, 2 B grades and 3 C grades. These are wonderful results as grades A - G are all pass marks. I am so proud of her, and all the effort she has put into her schoolwork in the last few years. She also manages to keep up a great social life with her friends too. I dont know how she managed to fit it all in :o)

I havent read any diaries yet, but I intend to read a few now before I go to bed. I might leave comments until tomorrow night but can I just say its lovely to see some old faces back, particularly Workingit :o) And Sweetpea, your baby pix are fab. Take care, everyone.

Hugs all round from Anne (cant you tell I'm in a good mood!!)

Progress as of today: 62 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

workingit2 on 08/23/2007:

Happy Anniversary Anne! You have come sooo far since you started with us a year ago. You had your struggles, but thanks to your persistence and dermination, you overcame them. I am so proud of you and all of your accomplishments!!

Im looking forward to your birthday weigh-in and stats. With all that hard work you're doing on the treadmill, Im sure you'll be shocked at the new numbers you see that day!

Also, a big congratulations to your daughter on her awesome test results. Im sure you're quite proud of her!!

Hey everyone. I have had a bit of a healthy lifestyle disaster since I was last on here. As you regular diarists know I had put 5lbs on during my holiday trips. Well I had managed to drop 4 of them again by last Thursday, then I went completely off the rails. I was going out for a night with the girls on Friday, and staying over at a friends for the night. I drank far too much alcohol on Friday, then we went back to her house and ate far too much really bad stuff too. The following day I had the hangover from hell, and my stomach was churning!! That put paid to my exercise for the day. Also a local celebrity, who has done more for my home city of Manchester than almost anyone I can think of, had died of a heart attack on Friday, and that was very upsetting. By Sunday I was feeling better , and walked the two mile to my sisters but couldnt curb my eating down to what it should have been. Consequently my weightloss since my hols was almost reversed.

Today I have got my head around it again and got back to basics. Drank all my water, kept my cals to what they should be, and got back on the treadmill after work. I willstill update my weight on the 23rd of this month, whether or not it is good news. That is my twelve month anniversary of joining the site. Sorry I have not got round to reading, and commenting on diaries. I know I am slacking. I have got quite a lot on at the moment, so it may be awhile before I have time to comment again. Good luck to everyone, and try your best. I will catch up as soon as poss :o)

Progress as of today: 58 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/13/2007:
ohhh, greeny! well, you are back on track now, so that's great!!!!

I know you will go back in the right direction. like donkey told me the other day, we all have things that can set us off on the wrong foot. however, as we learn and grow...we learn to face these challenges and how to get around them in a positive way. as you continue to face your challenges and grow in your diet, you will be able to better understand your needs. I believe that no matter what your age or where you are in life, you are always learning!

biscottibody59 on 08/14/2007:

Hi everbody :o)

No exercise to report today. I had shopping to do after work, and then I fell asleep when I should have been on the treadmill. Oh well, I will get back on it tomorrow :o)

Thanks for your comments yesterday. I have Norton Internet Security and that usually catches spyware and viruses but I did a full system scan just in case. I think it could be my service provider having problems or overload or something. There are four of us all using the wireless internet at once in our house so that could be making things slow too!!

Maria, I dont know of any sites like this based in the UK. I will check it out tho. I always recommend DD or SparkPeople to anyone I talk to about it, so probably we are all using American based sites anyway. Thats the wonder of the internet, isnt it?

Have a good day tomorrow people. Dont worry if I'm not about for a day or too. I have a few things on. By the way, I kept my cals under 1400 so far today and it is almost 9pm so I dont think I will be having any more.

Great job on calories! thanks for all the comments, i will pick it up sooner or later! my dad is actually extrememly supportive, telling me that if this music field doesn't work out he will support me in going for something else. he says that i have a good education and i would just have to add to it a little and that i'd be able to get another job. i just hope he's right: that i will eventually have a job and be able to support myself! he says i shouldn't worry about it too much. its just when i have so many friends who are 25 with careers, it scares me that i don't!

Hey fellow DDers !!!

I dont know why, but i am in a really good mood today. I have been a proper good girl this week, both with calories and exercise. That will probably go to pot on Friday, when I have a night out with the girls!! I am back at work and after just two days I already feel as if I have never been away. Its SNAFU at work at the moment, absolute chaos !!!

I seem to be struggling with this site at the moment. Actually, its several sites I'm having problems with. I'm ok with most sites but some are taking ages for pages to load. I have no idea where my problem lies but bear with me if I dont make a lot of comments. It's just taking me forever to navigate all the pages.

Anyway, I will love you and leave you, as we say over here. Keep up the good work folks, and good luck and good health to us all :o)

HAHAHA! Do you have wireless internet because sometimes my wireless is very low on power and this page takes forever to load too...Or maybe the reason why a lot of your pages are having trouble loading is because there are SOOO many people in your area trying to use the internet too....that happens a lot too when you have a connect other than wireless.

Possibly spyware. If you don't have some kind of spyware program, check out www.spybot.info--it's free and with my virus program, I have no problems with slowness--at least my computer doesn't--haha! Just a thought.

Are there other sites similar to this one over there in England? If so, I would sure love to visit them!

Looks like you are doing quite well preparing for your Friday nite!

Good on the exercise and cals! Have a wonderful evening...but since it is 8:03 pm here you may be asleep as I key this!

you might have a computer virus. I would, if you don't have already, get some virus protection...like what biscotti says.

thanks for the HUG. I am really needing it these days. I can't stand the feeling of not knowing where life is taking me, while trying to enjoy some summer vacation at the same time. so, i sabotoge it. I eat and binge, when i could be getting into better shape (nad loosing the last few while at it) and enjoying life. instead, i spent the day in my pajamas accomplishing very little and now i have a gross pimple on my chin and an ever more bloated stomach. LOL. gotta try harder!

Total exercise for August 1 hour 45 mins

Hey everyone,

I had a bit more time to myself today so I have read, and commented on a few diaries. It's lovely to see so many 'newbies' and I wish you all the best of luck in your efforts to improve your health.

I have been managing to get a fair bit of time on the treadmill, which you know I love but I still keep putting off other exercise. There's no excuse for it except that I dont fancy it. I really must get something done about my arms tho'.

My sister is back home today, so I have not had to go to my niece's as her mum is there for her now. I will see them both tomorrow tho' as we meet up every Sunday. If the weather is fine, my daughter and I will probably walk the two miles to my sister's place.

Since I have had my holidays my life has seemed a little flat. I have been feeling a little down. I dont want this to lead to any comfort eating so I am trying to fill in any spare time so I dont turn to food. Next Friday night I am having a night out with my closest friends. I will be staying at the house of one of them. I will have to try and 'bank' a few calories this week , just in case I indulge myself on that night (thanks to Maria for that Idea!!).

I'm off now, and I hope to update again tomorrow if I can find the time to fit it in between the ironing. Catch up with you all then :o)

Progress as of today: 58 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/04/2007:
While I agree that it is a good idea to "bank" calories to have a treat at night, it can also lead to overdoing it on that treat. Perhaps you do not have bingeing tendencies, but I have found that I have to be disciplined in limiting the evening treat or it's very easy to have a HUGE treat at the end of the day and ruin all my good work for the day.

It is not odd to feel flat or dull after an exciting holiday. Hugs to you, and I am sure that this feeling will pass soon. It sounds like you have an *excellent* plan for yourself in this regard.

Bravo on the exercise, by the way! Applause applause!!

mcwoo40 on 08/04/2007:
Hi Greenie,I know that feeling when you have just returned from your holidays,i normally want to go and book one for the year after. We go to London 3 weeks today, but a trip to York comes first.I felt a little down after the wedding, every time i went into town i used to think i needed something for it.Hope you catch up on your chores,Julie

biscottibody59 on 08/05/2007:
Hope you start to feel like you're back in the swing of things soon! Looks like you're doing what you need to do--except the ironing, sounds like you have alot of it--I used to iron every Sunday night while watching "Are You Being Served?" It was new to me in about 1990--and it stayed on as a staple on our PBS channel until just recently.

Hope you're having a good evening!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/07/2007:
i was just wondering, after a few days on the treadmill, does you ankles or legs begin to hurt? i had broken my left ankle about 6 years ago; and it still hurts after a few days on the treadmill! Therefore, when everyone speaks so well about the treadmill, i'm always saying in my head how it really does me in! haha. great to see you on here with some free time!

hollybelle on 08/07/2007:
Oh, yeah I hear you about that " flat" feeling. Dog days of summer are here in Kentucky, USA and I'm really feeling it. It is especially wierd since my husband is home all the time now because he is "job-hunting" and it's got my routine off! Sorry to hear about the passing of the niece's grandfather, etc. I might have had a beer or ale if I'd gone to pub with husband - goo for you sticking to soft drinks. As you may know, I'm not a huge drinker at all, but I do love a cold beer once in awhile in the hot weather. Hang in there.

hello everyone,

I know I have been least in sight this week but I have been keeping an eye on my niece. She is expecting a baby next month, and her mum (my sister) is away on holiday this week. Unfortunately my niece's paternal grandfather who she is close to, died this morning so I have been with her all day, to keep her company and try to keep her calm, and as cheery as I could keep her. Also last night I went out for a drink to the pub with my hubby (dont worry I only drank low cal soft drinks). He has been feeling a bit neglected whilst I have been gadding about here , there and everywhere. Consequently, I have had very little time to get online. It's good to see some of my favourite people back this week, and so many newcomers too :o)

I will try and catch up with diaries this weekend and update mine properly. I have been pretty good this week until today when I had a bit of a binge. I hope it hasnt done too much damage. Be in touch soon :o)

Have a good day today! Get some rest!

Hi everyone.

I am getting back to normal after my holiday break, but I am still struggling to keep to my calorie count. I am getting in plenty of exercise (did three miles in 45mins and 9 seconds on the treadmill today) and I am eating well within my limits, until the evening, when I am finding it hard to stop picking at stuff from the fridge. I know I am doing it!!!

I am not going to update my exercise total for this month as I lost track when I was away but I fully intend to count minutes again next month. I did plenty of walking when I was away, but I have enjoyed getting back to the treadmill, and dog walking at home :o)

Good luck to us all in our struggle towards better health !!

I know how it is to come back home from vacation and have to get back into that 'disciplined mode' of eating to get back to where you were before you left! But then, you are very disciplined, so I think it will be pretty easy for you! Glad you had a good trip!

sweetpea1977 on 08/01/2007:
Im glad you enjoyed your two holidays! When I went on my week-long honeymoon in 2005, I gained NINE pounds! Thankfully, most of it was water weight (ate lots of carbs in California!!) so it came off pretty quickly. In reality, I think I only gained 2-3 solid pounds so you probably didnt do too much damage to yourself.

Anyway, you should be back down to your low (or possibly at a new low) by your birthday. Just keep up the exercise and keep track of those calories!

PS. Love the pic in your previous entry. Your sis looks so much like you!! :o)

Hiya, glad to see that you had a good rest when you went away. The weather seems to be picking up now does'nt it.Don't be worrying about your weight gain you seem a very determined person, so you will loose that in no time.I'm afraid it is the same old story with me,i start my day well, then goes downhill very rapidly, i won't bore you.A great picture of you and your sister, you look the same around your eyes and mouth.MY sister and I look completely different, but have the same sense of humour and share the same views of life, there is 14months between us.I'm going to start to update more frequently too a goal i will set myself for this month.Anyway stick at it,Julie

Hope you're having a good day, Greengirl! (Guess you're asleep as I key this though, as we are on Eastern Time and it's 10:25 pm here in South Carolina, hehehe!)
