Exercise for today 60 minutes

Total exercise for June so far 3 hours 15 minutes

Hi everyone. The picture below is showing you all where I have spent most of today. It was just too nice out in the garden to be cleaning the kitchen. It could be raining tomorrow, so I will clean it then LOL!! Thats my old man (literally) in the picture. I think he is growing his hair long enough for a ponytail, silly old coot!!!

I have had a pretty active morning. I spent 50 minutes on the treadmill. I did five km in 45 min and one second! Thats just over 3 miles. I was pleased with that, I think I've only been faster than that once before. I needed a shower afterward tho' . I was so hot and sweating!! I am still aiming for 14 minute miles, so I'm not too far off that. I won't do another 5km now until Sunday when it is my Race for Life !! Today i also spent 10 minutes on my gravity strider!. It makes it look like have used up a lot of cals in activity, but when you take into consideration the fact that normally I am at work over 7 hours, very active, I have probably used less than usual.

It was my weigh-in today and I was dreading it, after my Friday night high jinks!! Actually I had redeemed myself over the weekend and managed to lose one pound!! That brings my total weightloss up to 60lbs. WOOHOO !!!! Stupidly tho, today I have eaten stuff that I didnt need to, and took my cals up to about 1700 !! Why do I do this??? i wish I knew, because all it does is makes it harder for myself. Oh well onward and upward. I will be good with the cals tomorrow and hope to get in at least 30mins, and hopefully more, exercise. Only 17lbs to my first major target. I think I will make myself some sort of visual aid, where I can cross every pound off as I lose it!!! I'll put it on my kitchen pin board to give me more incentive not to eat the bad stuff.

Must go now, I want to go out and watch the bats and it's getting dusk. Have a great day ladies :o)

Progress as of today: 60 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

Exercise for today 30 minutes

Total exercise for June 2 hours 15 mins

Hi all :o)

It has been another lovely day here, apart froma few cloudy periods (but still warm). I am at home this week so I decided to use some time to clean the bathroom. Thats one job i do put off, because I am tired, working fulltime, and the last thing I want to do is start scrubbing when I get home from work. Unfortunately my hubby, who is really good about hoovering the floor, and doing the laundry and shopping, doesnt like the idea of cleaning the toilet bowl out!!! Anyway, I got that done today, after I had bathed the dog and washed her bedding. Tomorrow I may start on the kitchen. That needs a good going over too!!!

Health-wise, I have had a fair day. I stayed under 1500 cals and I exercised for 30 minutes. I gave the treadmill a miss today, but I managed to do 100 crunches, and did ten minutes on my step and 20 minutes on my new machine. Hubby has bought me a gravity strider!!! It is supposed to tone my leg muscles, well we will see!!! I will give it a fair go, and see if it helps at all. Heaven knows where it is going to be stored. My living room looks like a cut-price gym!!

My daughter thinks she did ok in her exam today (maths paper 1). I hope you will all keep your fingers crossed for her. She has a graphic design exam tomorrow!!! Hope the weather stays nice, and have a great day tomorrow, folks :o)

Progress as of today: 59 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

mcwoo40 on 06/04/2007:
Hi,no chance of resting then on your week off then.I think my hubby has cleaned the bathroom once since we have been in the house. The toilet fairy comes and cleans our toilet!! so you have got a gooden there.Catch up tomorrow,Julie

hollybelle on 06/04/2007:
Your house sounds alot like mine. It ALL could use a good going over! Thanks for the info on the schools in UK. I will certainly keep the fingers crossed and send up a prayer for the testing your dear daughter is taking right now. Ah, if we can just get them grown, but from what I have heard it's a whole other set of worries after that! Ha! Gotta love 'em - bless 'em. Hope she does well so she can get the school she wants. You are right kids have a lot on them these days. So much competition. Speaking of competition - you are doing well in our June challenge! Keep up the good work.

Hi fellow DDers,

Thanks for not giving me grief for the whole 'chocky mountain' debacle and for your very sweet comments about the photo I uploaded yesterday of me and my daughter. I love it too because of the cheeky grin she is trying to suppress. She's my baby and I love her to bits!!!

HoP, you are right, she does take after my side of the family but she has her dad's mouth and his hazel eyes (although hers look greener rather than browner). My two sons have my light blue eye colour.

I have been good today, keeping my calories under 1500 and walking with my daughter to my sisters ( 2 miles). We are walking outside in preparation for our RaceforLife 5km race next Sunday. I am really looking forward to it but I'm hoping the weather is a little cooler than it has been this weekend. In fact, a little light rain wouldnt trouble me too much.

This coming week Sarah has exams every day, so I have booked a week off work to make sure that she is fed and watered, and fully prepared before she leaves the house. We are also going to exercise together next week as she only has to be in school for the actual exam period so she will have more time at home too. The week after I am going to have to leave her to her father's tender mercy, but at least she does not have as many exams that week and then she is finished at that school and on to sixth-form college. It doesnt seem two minutes since she started there, but it has been five years that have flown by in the wink of an eye !!! ***sigh*** she has got soo grown up!! My baby is nearly gone!!

Now I'm getting maudlin so I had better wrap this up. Have a great week ladies (and gents of course). Fight the good fight and keep the faith!! :o)

Hey! Thats so cool you and your daughter doing the race for life together! I was supporting a friend at one today and the atmosphere was fantastic! Made me wish I was doing it....next time for sure! Enjoy it!

Soon2BThin on 06/03/2007:
I enjoyed seeing your picture yesterday. And that dessert---who could resist some of that?!! Looks yummy! Sometimes you just have to allow for the good times and the food that comes along with and then pick yourself up the next day and go on. And I see you're doing that. So I think you handled it very well! Life goes on. Can't wait to hear about your 5K next week! Have a good week!

WorkingIt2 on 06/03/2007:
That is the kind of dessert that I could swim in! LOL What a beauty! And as for the two ladies in the pic..you are both very pretty! Amazing the difference in your beginning pic and the now pics. Is that the new dress? If not, it is still pretty! Pretty color and picks up the pink in your cheeks!

And that one day, you did not undo all the good you did for yourself. In fact, letting go and relaxing and enjoying yourself once in a while, will keep you happy and going a lot longer than constant deprivation!

And I am going to feel exactly as you feel when my 'baby' grows up. I am already dreading her 16th birthday which is still two years from now..but we all know how quickly time goes by. BUT, such is the heartbreak of being a mom..we gotta let them go :( **hugs** Have a great day!

hollybelle on 06/03/2007:
Thanks for the reply. I thought your daughter was about the same age as my daughter. Mine will be 16 in July and no, it doesn't seem but like the blink of the eye since she was just a little thing. About school there in UK - I know it is different than here from talking with a lady I used to work with who was from there. What is the sixth-form college you refer to? We have Grades Kindergarden through 5th grade for Elementary School, then 6th - 8th grade as Middle School and then 9th - 12th for High School and then - if we are lucky - 4 years of basic college and more if a specialized degree is sought. My friend had friends from England that visited her every year and we had them over for dinner every year. They had sons who went into the "Trades" they said - one was an electrician, for example. I am just curious how education works there.

I meant to say that the Mom in the picture yesterday sure looks slim! Your face is getting slimmer and slimmer. Can't help but believe the hips are following suit! You look good.

Gee Greenie--I wanted you to know I haven't missed your fabulous wasting away--virtually--YOU LOOK GOOD! I know we all see these flaws when we look in the mirror naked--but it can only get better--and there's always surgery to get rid of the extra skin if it really gets to you later on!

Oh, and on the weight work--you may want to check out www.exrx.net as well as the others.

You've just done an awesome job--congrats to you getting into the 160s!!! Have a good one!

Exercise for today 60 mins Total for the month of June 60 mins

Hey everyone,

I'm sorry to say this but I went out last night with my daughter, sisters and nieces, and ate enough calories to totally undo all the good I have done myself in the last week. The sad thing is, I really enjoyed it!!

We went out to celebrate my eldest sister's 65th birthday, to a lovely place called the Hartshead Inn. Its a pub/restaurant in an old farmhouse and the food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. I knew we were going so I had saved 700 cals from my day towards it but I probably ate more than 2000 at that sitting!!! I resisted getting a starter for myself, but ate some of my daughters order of onion rings, then I had roasted vegetables with dips ( houmous and a greek yogurt based dip). The veggies were gorgeous but covered in some sort of olive oil based dressing. The biggest problem came with the dessert menu. Sarah fancied a shared dessert called 'chocky mountain'. I stupidly agreed to share it with her!! Witness the photo below of said chocky mountain!!! It consisted of masses of ice cream, containing Maltesers (British choc covered sweets), profiteroles, and flaked chocolate, and the whole thing covered in chocolate sauce!!! It tasted like chocolate heaven!!

I dont think I should be telling you all about this lest you should be tempted too!! To compound everything else , I also drank two half pints of cider!!

Well that is my confession for the week. Bang goes my challenge to Mcwoo. I have been a lot stricter with myself today, than I have been for a while, and I took a brisk walk with my daughter, for an hour but I dont think it will make much impression on the calories I consumed yesterday. I think the best thing I can do is forget about it now, and just concentrate on the rest of my week. I wont be expecting a loss on the scales on Tuesday, but if I get one it will be a bonus.

Hope you are all having a less tempting week than I am. It's nice to see so many newcomers recently. Good luck to us all and have a great weekend.

Progress as of today: 59 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

Donkey on 06/02/2007:
I want to be in this photo, enjoying that dessert too! (Great picture, btw)

Thank you for your continued supportive words! :-)

What a SWEET mother/daughter photo! That photo of you two sharing that desert is WORTH ALL THE CALORIES IN THE DESERT!!!! A photo to be TREASURED for years! Btw, the desert does look SCRUMPTUOUS!!! YUM YUM!!! You're right to not worry about it and just pick up from where you are and go forward...BTW...you look LITTLE!!!!!

first, you do look VERY good in this picture. i see that there is definitely some of you in your daughter! you both look so good together!! nice photo!

mcwoo40 on 06/03/2007:
Hi, as long as you enjoyed your feast that is the main thing,it was worth every penny!!.You know what to do to get back into it.That pudd looks yum!!They do one like that at the beefeater up the road.It has malteasers in it chocolate brownies, ice cream, and merangue etc it is a little pricey though. You know how many times i have stuffed my face and got back into it again so if i can do it, you can.Enjoy the rest of the weekend, and i want to hear a good report next time!!Julie

hollybelle on 06/03/2007:
Oh, my, Gosh! That thing looks alot like a dessert they serve here at "Ruby Tuesday" Restaurants called a Chocolate Tall Boy! It must have been a day for ice cream treats because I had an UN-shared milkshake yesterday! Sorry you have to be stricter today - but time to pay the piper, huh? It's good to enjoy ourselves with some treat we don't usually have, though. Very cute picture of you and daughter. How old is she?

Sweetpea1977 on 06/03/2007:
At least you enjoyed the celebration feast!! Good for you!! Who knows, the sudden change in calories may have scared your metabolism into overdrive and you'll see less damage on the scale. Anyway, Im sure you'll be fine after getting back on track with your healthy eating and exercise habits.

By the way, good choice on dessert!! I'd be in heaven if I had that sitting in front of me this very second!!

greengirl - Thursday May 31, 2007
(portion control with calorie counting)
Weight: 168.0

Hello to everyone on this lovely Thursday evening. It is lovely at the moment but unfortunately the weather has been a little changeable.

I have been doing a bit of thinking this last couple of days (!!!). I have decided to try and target my problem areas. I have a jelly belly (apron of fat on tummy!), and biggish hips and thighs, and chicken wing arms!!! I am also wondering if I will have thick ankles for the rest of my life?? All the usual suspects!!! What I am doing now (diet and exercise, mainly treadmill) is fine, and I am still losing but now is the time to start some serious toning up. I have asked my husband what my bum looks like as I cant see round corners, and he very tactfully says that it is a lot smaller than it used to be!! (Doesnt say that its not fat tho!!!)

Anyway, I am going to embark on some exercises using small weights (I hate the weights) and Pete is thinking of getting me another piece of big equipment to help tone my legs. Heaven only knows where it will fit in the house. There isnt enough room to swing a cat as it is!! I will keep you updated on the progress of my plan. I think it is time to jig it up a bit!!

As regards today, I ate 1556 cals according to my book, and did just over 30 minutes on the treadmill when I got home from work. I did two miles and then called it a day. I have had a physically testing day at work so I should have used plenty of cals!!

Sorry if I havent commented on your diary. I started reading diaries but there were so many in the list since last time I read them that I gave up. Will catch up soon. Have a great day, everyone :o)

Progress as of today: 59 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 05/31/2007:
Thanks for the comment. I promise to listen to my body and take it easy if I feel tired. I am so looking forward to the 2nd trimester!

Small weights are a great way to tone up. You dont need much! I use a range of 5-12 pound dumbbells in a wide range of toning exercises. I also found an exercise ball quite beneficial for ab (and some back) work. It also makes a comfy weight bench for sitting/laying down weightlifting positions.

Check out these links for various toning demonstrations:

mcwoo40 on 05/31/2007:
Hi,it tickled me when you said that you asked your hubby what your bum looks like.If i asked that to my hubby he would just tell me what i wanted to hear if he wants to live a little longer!!.I used to just go on the treadmill, but i do less on it(It's boring aswell)and go on the crosstrainer and have noticed my spare tyre is going down, or i have a slow puncture!!I could do some floor exercises too, they have cctv at the gym, so i would give someone an eyeful if they where looking at the screen.Perhaps invest in an exercise mat and do them at home, easier said than done hey!!Bye 4 now,Julie

hollybelle on 05/31/2007:
Good plan stepping up exercise. May I ask why you hate weights? They are the fastest way to tone. I promise. That said - I don't use them as often as I need to, either! Do you feel awkward, or is it painful? I really like using muscle. I have a bar that I use for my whole weight workout except for bench press (chest) and tri-cept presses. There is no need to have anything else. I learned most of the technique from books and a body pump class I used to teach. That was the best shape I was ever in and I wasn't that much lighter than I am now, but the weights made the diff!

You are right - we are almost the same age - I'll be 53 in October, actually. It does get harder to maintain as we age, but Let's you and I be two of the ones our age that do it! YAY! Congrats on the loss! YAY!

maria777 on 05/31/2007:
I don't know much about toning exercises but I think weights (if you're careful not to overdo them) can be helpful...I also think that walking is a good way to tone up!

maria777 on 06/02/2007:
Hope you're having a good day today and a wonderful weekend!

hey everyone. I'm updating a little earlier than usual tonight. It was my weigh-in today and I have lost a pound and a half this week. I am very pleased with this. I have been losing steadily now since last August and I dont think I can expect to lose large amounts any more. So a pound and half is good news to me ***smiles***. AT LAST!!!! I have gone below the obese BMI level. Now I am merely overweight. Thats a massive difference from when I started on this journey. I think workingit said she had accepted that it might take 2 years to get to where she wants to be. Well I know I will be the same. When i get to my current target of 150lbs I will re-evaluate my situation. OOOps gotta go!!! Battery is running out. Talk later!!!!

Progress as of today: 59 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

Good job on the weightloss!! You're doing great! Yes, we do have to be patient with all this and just accept that it's going to take some time. Well, here I am, almost 10 years after my start, and I'm still struggling so I guess it's a never-ending battle, as they say. I've been lower and I've been higher but I'm on a roll now. And so are you! Keep up the fantastic work and have a great Wednesday!

Hey everyone

Ive had another moderately good day for me, and I am slightly more confident than I was last week about weighing in for the challenge with Mcwoo tomorrow. Well really, my challenge is with myself, just trying to give me a little bit more incentive before I go away on holiday in July. Luckily it coincides with Mcwoo wanting to make a good effort before her sisters wedding!! Anyway I have kept my calories at around 1500 and had 35 minutes on the treadmill. I am making myself a playlist of songs with a good beat for the Race for Life that I am taking part in, in two weeks. I find that a lot of The Who songs help me to walk at about four miles an hour, so they feature strongly in my playlist. Any suggestions folks???

By the way Mcwoo, I did have a great lie-in!! See you on the scales tomorrow :o)

Hi fellow DDers. I am on here a little late for me (it is a quarter to one in the morning) but I have a day off tomorrow so I will probably have a lie-in!!

I have had a pretty good day today. I knew I was going out with hubby tonight so I was strict with the calories, eating less than 1300. When we went out I actually only drank low cal soft drinks, except for one bottle of low carb beer. It didnt taste too bad either!! When we came home I made a cuppa, but then had a couple of mouthfuls of my hubby's mixed peanuts, raisins and chocolate chips!!! Frankly, I could have eaten the bagful, but managed to restrain myself!! All in all I did OK. My daughter and I walked the 2 miles to my sister's this afternoon so I managed to get some exercise in too. It took us just over half an hour.

Anyway I must go now. I am typing this on my laptop in bed!! Goodnight all :o)

Progress as of today: 57.5 lbs lost so far, only 19.5 lbs to go!

maria777 on 05/27/2007:

Good evening everyone. I havent got a lot of time tonight so I will just update, and comment on diaries tomorrow when I have more time.

I have had another good day today. Finished on less than 1500 cals, and spent an hour on the treadmill. Walked 3 miles (briskly) in the first 50 mins including 35 mins on the incline. Spent the reast of the time slowing down, then finished up with some stretches. Had a soak in the bath afterwards and felt good.

This afternoon I managed to find a very pretty blue dress which I'm planning on wearing when I go out with hubby tomorrow night, and perhaps next weekend when I'm having a meal out with my sisters, to celebrate my eldest sister's 65th birthday.

Anyway, I will love you and leave you now. Goodnight :o)

Progress as of today: 57.5 lbs lost so far, only 19.5 lbs to go!

Terrific job with the exercise!! Your speed puts mine to shame, lol. And I haven't been using the incline yet either. You rock! Have fun going out with the hubby and your sisters next week!

Hello everyone

I've had a good day today except that I didnt do any formal exercise. I was very active at work though, so I dont worry about missing a day here and there. Also it's a three day weekend so I will have plenty of opportunity to catch up.

I don't usually put my foodlist down but today i think I will, for a change.

Breakfast 1 oatibix, small sliced banana, light soya milk, cup of tea

Lunch at work 2 small slices wholemeal bread, ham flavour quorn (meat substitute), low fat spread, apple, tomato, lowfat babybel cheese, walnuts (2 kernels)

Late afternoon snack at home small tin of sardines in tomato sauce. This is a recent addition to my diet. For years I have been vegetarian but after mt doc said I need to increase the good cholesterol in my diet this seemed the best option. I eat sardines or mackerel 3 times a week. Unfortunately this has upset my daughter and a close friend who is strictly vegetarian.

Evening meal small baked potato, lowfat cheese as a filling, small tin weightwatchers baked beans.

That lot adds up to about 1450 cals and I'm feeling pretty satisfied. Drank about two litres of water and several cups of tea (about four I think)

I'm planning on having a night out with the hubby on Sunday so I think I will treat myself to a pretty dress or skirt and top, so it looks as if I will be doing some shopping tomorrow. Catch up with you all then. bye :o)

Progress as of today: 57.5 lbs lost so far, only 19.5 lbs to go!

Love your menu! Sounds delicious! I love sardines and mackerel. YUM!!! You have a lot of very wise choices for 1450 cals...the better to keep you feeling full...I've also learned about eating smart to stay full and within calories range...Have fun picking out that outfit to wear out with Hubby and have a good time! Big Smile!

I've tried the Quorn brand. the food is rather good. however, i get disgusted that it is made from fungus...and i know that that is all mushrooms are...but for some reason, i'm disgusted. however, the food does taste fairly good. sorry if i grossed you out!? I've never had oatibix...i presume its like wheatabix! your health comes first and foremost. What you eat should not be determined by how it affects others. that may seem rude and inconsiderate and self-absorbed, but that is my belief. If you want to have fish, you can have it. I'm agreeing that you make the decisions on what you eat. I'm sorry that your daughter and friend feel upset that you are not strictly vegetarian. but, they shouldn't take it as an insult, it is your body, your choice.

Hi just reading your food diary, not a great lover of fish.It must be the bones that you 'may' find that puts me off.I like smoked haddock but i have to take the skin off before i cook it and i buy it boneless, and i get cod in butter sauce.Talking of drinks i have been buying the unsweetened nescafe cappaccino as a treat, and having one a day using my sweetners.I don't like ordinary coffee although that is all that i fancied when i was preggers, i am more a tea drinker.Have a great time with hubby and don't get too drunk!!only joking.Be good,Julie
