Happy Saturday everybody!!!

i love the weekend. I am feeling a little better today but my tummy is still churning a little. The trouble is that having spent a lot of time on the toilet yesterday, I'm now running on empty!! Anything I eat is making my tummy hurt and I feel like I've eaten a lead weight!!! Unfortunately, because my hubby is feeling quite ill too, I have had to go out and do the shopping for groceries, and all the laundry too. Sometimes you can't even be ill in peace!!! I am hoping to be back to normal tomorrow but, by coincidence, I have a doctors appointment on Monday, for a regular check-up , so if I am still feeling ill I can always mention it then.

I had a gentle stroll on the treadmill today, so that made me feel less guilty about my lack of exercise.

Hope you are all having a happy and healthy weekend :o)

Progress as of today: 51.5 lbs lost so far, only 25.5 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/21/2007:

Hello everyone. I know I have been Missing In Action this week but I have been pressed for time having gone out at night, which I don't do much, then I seem to have come down with a viral infection which laid me up last night.

I dont think I will comment until tomorrow. There are so many posts up since the last time I was on that it would take me hours to comment on them all, but I will try and read as many as I can.

I went out with a close friend on Wednesday night, for a drink down the pub. Got a lot of positive comments about my weightloss which made me very happy. One landlady in a pub where I used to play darts regularly, was gobsmacked. She had to look twice before she recognised me!! That was quite funny. I did get a few sarcastic remarks from (so-called) friends. One cheeky person (female) asked me if I was on the lookout for a younger man, now that I looked younger!!! I gave her the cold shoulder after telling her that my conscience wouldnt let me do such a thing!!!! It does make me wonder what people are saying about me when I'm not there, if they can be so cheeky when I am there!!!

Yesterday I went to work feeling great, but after a couple of hours a gland in my neck started to swell up and my neck started to feel tender and stiffen up. By the end of my shift I was feeling really under the weather, and sick and shakey on my legs. Today I was still feeling ill, unfortunately spending a lot of time in the toilet!!! Needless to say, I had the day off work. I think this is viral and now (nearly half past eight in the evening)I feel much better. Neck is not so tender, but tummy is still churning. Hubby has been feeling a bit similat, but he has so many health problems that it's hard to know if this is anything different. This has affected my exercise for the week, which is a blow, but I have been good with my eating. One of the problems with being ill, is that people start to hint that it's because i've lost weight, when in actual fact, I have been healthier in the last few months than I have for years. I think some people are just looking for any excuse to have a dig about it!!!!

I will, hopefully, catch up with you all tomorrow. Hope everyone is happy, and doing the very best they can :0)

Sounds like there are some people jealous of your weight loss success. Surround yourself with positive people and turn a deaf ear to the rest. I hope you begin to feel better soon!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/21/2007:

WorkingIt2 on 04/21/2007:
Awww I hope you feel better soon! And CONGRATULATIONS on busting throught he 50lb weight loss mark! YAY!!!! You have worked so hard!

It is a shame that some people just can't be NICE to people who are losing weight. Jealousy is an ugly thing indeed. Just hold your head high, and to the devil with whatever they say! It isn't a reflection of you, it is a reflection of them! I hope you and your husband both feel better soon! Have a fantastic weekend =)

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the sympathy over the sleep (or lack of it) situation. You will be happy to know that, despite having a couple of hours sleep in the afternoon, I managed to go to sleep last night and got about five hours straight sleep, which isnt so bad. I felt much better today. I seem to have touched a nerve with a lot of the DDers. Lots of us seem to have sleep problems.

We are very busy at work. The students are officially back at Uni and all trying to finish their Easter assignments to be handed in next week. The computer clusters are full at all times, with a queue of waiting students. In this respect students never change. Lots of them leave everything to the last minute!! Also this week, they bring the books back that they have had out for the Easter break, so there is lots of shelving to do. I always feel it in my knees. Its repetitive stress, with using the kicksteps to reach the higher shelves. All in all though, I have had a pretty good day today. When you are busy the time just flies by. I have a meeting tomorrow with the team I am part of, and on Thursday I am taking part in a focus group on Communication within the Library. That should be interesting!!! NOT !!

Hope you are all sticking to your plans, and doing well!! Have a great day!

Progress as of today: 51.5 lbs lost so far, only 25.5 lbs to go!

mcwoo40 on 04/17/2007:
hi,glad you slept better there is nothing worse especially if you have to get up for work the next morning dog tired.I hope your focus group is more exciting than it sounds,I thought you have to be quiet in library's!!Bye,julie

Sandra aka Soul on 04/17/2007:
I once read that if you want to get more sleep or feel as if your body has had more sleep then go to bed long before midnight. Any time that you sleep before midnight is like double (1 hour is like getting 2 hours) and anytime after midnight you sleep is like getting only half the time (1 hour is like getting 1/2 hour) Something to keep in mind, I find it true for myself though.

You and I think very much alike, did you like my double meaning in my entry, yours was brilliant too....rofl brilliant. We will see how far he gets to the hole one of these days, I should ask him if he has ever hit a hole in one and try to keep a straight face.

Catch you later

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

glad to hear that you had a pretty good day. It is nice when you find that nice medium at work where you are busy enough that the time seems to go by faster, but not so busy that you are totally stressing out.

Yesterday I was feeling full of energy and on top of the world but it's amazing what a bad nights sleep can do to you. Today I have felt like c**p. I get up at 5am (as you know) so I went to bed early last night but I lay there tossing and turning until nearly one am before I dropped off. I could hear my son coughing which disturbed me a few times, and then I woke up at four am and just couldnt get back to sleep. At about 4.15am I decided to get up and start the day exceedingly early but then it is the start of a vicious circle I am only too familiar with. I work all day and come home exhausted, too tired to exercise. I fall asleep for a couple of hours and then, at bedtime I am wide awake again and start the whole thing off again. Sometimes this can go on for weeks but since I have been losing weight my sleep patterns, and my energy levels have been much better so its not happened for a while.

I hope I have a better nights sleep to report here tomorrow. Have a good day everyone :0)

sharklover on 04/16/2007:
I hope you have a better nights sleep too!!

Don't let youtself take a nap in the evening so that you will fall right asleep at bed time, and hopefully get yourself out of that cycle!

Your weight loss is inspiring to me! You started out right where I did, and you are doing it! Don't let a bad day get you down. You have obviously made some huge changes in your life! Kudos!

Umpqua on 04/16/2007:
Sorry about your sleep issues, I've definitely been there. One thing that works for me is valerian root - I'll take a capsule a little before bedtime and it helps relax me. They have an odd smell, but if you can deal with that they're a great herbal sleep aid.

I hope you got some decent sleep by now--it's a biggie for me as well! And I hope you can get back into your exercise routine--take care and have a good one!

Hi everyone. I have updated my weight to reflect my loss in the last two weeks. It is only two and a half pounds but if I could keep that rate up I would be more than pleased!! I have read diaries and commented on some but I am having problems doing it. I think it is my wireless connection which is causing the problem. If I havent commented on your diary, it is because I have given up in disgust because it is taking me so long to upload my comments!!

I have had a lovely weekend. The weather is absolutely glorious here at the moment. It is more like what we expect in summer, than spring. We have managed to tidy up the garden pretty much. Hubby is going to pressure-clean the patio tomorrow, if the weather holds. We spent a lot of time just sitting out enjoying the weather today though. Sarah and I took the dog for a rather brisk walk this afternoon, as part of our training schedule. I wore my pedometer for the duration of the walk and I took 9115 steps. If my average stride was two foot, that means that we walked about 3.45 miles. We walked in the local river valley, which involved a lot of uphill and downhill walking so we got a pretty good workout, and we all enjoyed it. As we were about to leave the valley we walked into a young couple exercising a whippet pup and she kept running rings round our dog. Poor Kali didnt stand a chance of keeping up, especially after a long walk. She tried to tho!!!

Hope you all have a great week girls (and boys). :0)

Hey fellow DDers :)

I know its a couple of days or so since my last update but I have been a little busy. I have just read a few diaries, and commented but to tell you the truth I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of entries that have been made since my last post and have stopped for a breather!! I'm sorry if I havent managed to catch up with some people but I will try harder during the next few days.

I have had a couple of good days, and one not so good day (hubby bought me some dark chocolate!!!). I'm getting a little suspicious of his motives!! Don't get me wrong, he has been nothing but supportive of me for months but recently (whether subconciously, or not) he has been sabotaging my efforts. Funnily enough, this has come after a couple of his friends have made congratulatory comments about my weightloss. One annoyed him by shouting out of a car window as he passed us in the street. This guy is a taxi driver that we have known for years, and the husband of a friend of mine. He shouted something to the effect that I was looking ten years younger, which we laughed about, but Pete has been a bit touchy about it since!!! I hope this isn't the start of something bad!! Anyone else had weird reactions from partners??

I have quite a busy schedule coming up which I hope isnt going to interfere with my healthier lifestyle. I'm going on several outings to shows with family members. These usually involve going out for a drink afterwards but I am resolved to keep to low cal mixers. I'm seeing 'Blood Brothers' on 26th of this month, 'The Producers' on May 1st and 'Cats' on 7th June. I love musicals and we have some great theatres here in Manchester. Next Wednesday I am going out with a friend who has some 'man problems' she wants advice on !!! I know she just wants a shoulder to cry on really, so I want to be there for her. I will do my very best to keep control of my calories on all these occasions. I know last week was a bit of a washout, what with Easter and what have you, but I'm hoping to have lost something (even if it only a very little) when I weigh in mid month!! I will probably update my weight on the 15th of the month (thats Sunday, isnt it?) which will be two weeks after my last weigh-in.

Anyway, good luck to everyone with their efforts this week and I will be in touch again soon. Hope the sun shines on you all wherever you are :0)

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

Sandra aka Soul on 04/12/2007:
He might be feeling insecure, he knows that you are becoming quite the catch and other men are noticing it. I once read about something like this, typical scenario is the woman is overweight and the guy might be too. The guy feels secure in the relationship until the woman loses weight whereby becoming more attractive to the opposite sex. The guy now is fearful that he might lose the woman because he is the same as before and she is changing and might find him no longer attractive. The guy now tries to fatten up the woman again so he can have that security again that he once had with the woman.

I hope all that made sense. Maybe the guy is aware that he is doing this and maybe he is not, I think guys can be subtle too. It is sometimes nice to have our guys jealous over other men, makes us feel wanted still and attractive, which you always have been but moreso now.

WorkingIt2 on 04/12/2007:
FINALLY I am catching up with you LOL!! Sheesh there are so many of us now it is hard to keep up! Your pictures are gorgeous!! There is a very significant difference in your 'look' and it is normal for men to start being more protective of their 'girl' when they feel the hounds sniffing around lol. I think it is a compliment and a fantastic opportunity to have a little romantic renewal of vows/love/etc. hehe..gotta make it work for us right? LOL

And enjoy the feeling of being the most beautiful woman in the world to him and worth holding very close! Not that you weren't worth it before...but there is something magical that happens to men when they start to see our feminine shapes re-emerge...rekindles a little bit of that primative fire inside them. I say don't hash it out with him in a negative way...make it something sexy and romantic and set the stage for this new phase in both of your lives...make love, not war! lol

Have a great evening!

weightlossyoyo on 04/12/2007:
Weightloss change is really hard for the other half as well!

sweetpea1977 on 04/13/2007:
My husband (who has also lost a bunch of weight) does the same thing to me on occasion. I think it is cute, especially since he has nothing to worry about!!! I always let him know that he's the only one for me by telling him all the little things that I adore about him. Oh, and it also helps when I tell him I cant wait to be the mother to his children - that always makes him melt and feel so proud, lol!

Anyway, try reassuring him that he has nothing to worry about. Tell him that you are losing weight to improve your health and to extend the length of your life. Shaping up is just one of the perks of becoming healthier, but its not changing the way you feel about him at all. You are still the same person he fell in love with - just healthier!

It may boost his confidence if you flirt with him every now then. If you arent big on that, take a moment each day to compliment him on one of the many things you love about him. WorkingIts might be right! The "new you" may end up rekindling the fire in your romance, so take advantage of it!! :o)

mcwoo40 on 04/13/2007:
Hi,when i have been on diets in the past, my hubby who works in a bakery of all places kept bringing things home that i adored eating(eccles cakes) when i clearly told him not to.As they do, took no notice, now he is watching his weight nothing like that has come through the door.WHY DO THEY DO IT?? I would'nt worry too much about your hubby,It's good to keep our men on there toes, knowing that we still can get male attention,Well done!!Hope you caught up with your gardening,Bye 4 now,Julie

borntocry on 04/13/2007:
Hmm, that is very strange behaviour from your husband, although flattering too, I guess! I would agree with sweetpea's advice - maybe give your husband some reassurance from time to time so he doesn't feel threatened. You know guys like to pretend that we girls are the only ones who get possessive and jealous, but it's not true!

maria777 on 04/13/2007:
I know what you mean about Hubbies...I think they want us heavier than we want to be...

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/14/2007:
maybe your husband is a wee bit jealous of your weight loss and wants some of his own loss? maybe you should bring this up with him... just to end all confusion!

Hi everyone. This is the end of my holiday weekend and I'm back to work tomorrow (worst luck). I've really enjoyed the long weekend.

I'm going to buckle down to the healthy lifestyle again. I always do better when I have something to aim for so my next target is 169lbs. This will kill two birds with one stone. Firstly, it will get me out of the 170s and secondly, it will take my BMI out of the 'obese' category and into the merely 'overweight' category. That's got to be something good to aim for.

Did 40 minutes on the treadmill today, over 25 of them on a steep incline. I really find this gives me a better workout. When I put it back on the flat I feel like I am floating along. LOL :)

Thanks for the very flattering comments on my photo yesterday. Especially BTC for saying I look younger. Dont look too closely at the lines round the eyes :)

Here's hoping we all have a good week this week and fight the good fight, people!!!

Thanks for your comment. I do think my coughing is some kind of allergy... the way it comes and goes. And I do have pretty bad hayfever. Must be the pollen here in France, because it seems to be worse here. I am all jacked up on Clarityn and Beconase now so I hope that does the trick!

I was reading a few of your entries, how neat to be able to watch the bats at dusk!! We don't see to many bats where we live, I've only ever seen a few!! We did see a fox on the other side of the pond we back onto two days ago though, that was very rare and neat. Its very unusual to see a fox where we live, especially during the day!! We live in the city but where our house is built it used to be alot of field until all of the new homes started being built up. This pond that we back onto is man made although it does still bring its fare share of wild life! My husband, the kids and I really enjoy watching the animals out in our back yard and on the other side of the fence.

Thats a wonderful picture of you and Amelia, you look so slim and healthy!! Amelia is adorable, what a beautiful baby! I enjoy when people share their pics, I'm rather "picture happy" myself!!

Just thought I'd show you this picture of me at my sisters this afternoon (I am the one in the jeans!! LOL :) ). Baby Amelia is getting really grown up now but she still takes a few minutes out for a bit of R&R.

Sarah and I decided to walk to my sis's today as part of our training for our 5K in June. We are going to walk there every week from now on. It's about a mile and a half and it took us about 35 minutes today. Some of it is uphill so we think we did OK. We will be aiming for a faster time next week. It's definately a little tougher than walking on the treadmill, but we didnt try running yet!! I also did ten minutes on my niece's elliptical cross trianer so I got my days exercise quota in easily. Normally I would rest on a Monday but I think it would waste an opportunity if I didnt do any tomorrow while I'm on holiday, so I will rest on Tuesday instead.

The weather was nice here today but a little chillier than the last couple of days. Hope its nice again tomorrow.

Calories were better today. I seem to have gotten over the worst of my relaxed holiday mindset LOL!!! Talk to you all tomorrow. Have a great day :)

Hi everyone. Not much to update really but habits die hard. As usual at holiday times I am not being a very good greengirl. Dont worry, I'm not bingeing, just eating slightly more than I do when I am at work. I am still doing my exercise, I did 35mins on the treadmill with the incline well up and I have been out in the garden helping hubby with the tidying up. Come Tuesday, when I am back at work I will get back to some seriously healthy eating, I promise!!

We used to have a very small pond with goldfish in, but after an attack by a local heron, only one goldfish was surviving and so i decided to empty the pond and make it into a different feature. I will do some photos so you can see the difference between what it looked like before and after. The garden is only small but it's fairly private and in summer we get out there as much as we can after work. I like to watch the bats at dusk. Its peaceful at that time of day even here in the suburbs. When all the debris from winter is eventually cleared away and the hanging baskets have been replanted I will be getting the garden furniture out for the summer. It's been so nice for the last couple of days that I have started to think that it is summer, but I know the rain will be back sooner or later!! Let's hope its not just yet.

Talk to you all tomorrow hopefully. have a great day :)

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

bats, how completely different! no bats around here, only upstate! i've seen a bat once my entire 24 year old life! greengirl, you are right...that its great you are not binging. there is a complete difference between binging and eating holiday foods..or even "holiday-style," full course dinners and desserts. binging is totally unhealthy and usually done for emotional reasons. so, congrats on making it through, the holiday will be OVER before you know it!

Hi,Hope you have been good today!!It just reminded me of when my dad was doing a house up in Denbeigh,Wales. An 'old boyfriend' was helping dad,and mum and i went to visit one weekend. There where caves over the road, and you could hear the bats, next minute they where flying over our heads when we where walking, it was like something out of a horror movie!!Julie
