Hey everyone. Happy Easter!!

I have had a long day in the garden tidying up and preparing my pots for new bedding plants. It has been a glorious day here and I hope it keeps it up for the whole weekend. As I didnt have to shop today I managed to do a couple of miles on the treadmill before I went out in the garden. One of my stepdaughters came with her children to bring Easter chocolate (and take some back!!!). We had alovely day all told. I hope tomorrow is just as good. I will have to shop tomorrow but after that I am going to have a similar day as today, I hope.

Enjoy the weekend !!! :0)

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

Hi,good morning.in reply to your question about taking the girls to marshside to see the birds, the answer is no.I've seen people with there cameras around that area. It's funny cos i went on the southport.gb.com website and someone has taken some pictures of some birds from marshside.Glad you survived your chocolate feast with not too many ill effects, happy Easter to you,Julie

I'm enjoying actual "Made in England" Cadbury Creme Eggs (caramel ones too!). They're very fresh this year.

Hope you have a good one!

I feel sick!!!! It's my own fault. We have just been doing a pre-Easter shop at the supermarket so that I can put my feet up all weekend, and I asked my hubby to buy me an chocolate egg, and then I came home and ate it!!!!! About 1000 calories worth (although my husband ate about a quarter of it. I have four days off now when I can eat a little less and exercise a little more to make up for it. Unfortunately that wont take the sick feeling away. Naughty Greengirl !!!!

Today was quiet at work. I had only walked about 11,000 steps when I got home and I dont exercise on Thursday. I will more than make up for it tomorrow. It's an incline day, so a bit tougher than usual. I am going to read diaries tonight but I will comment tomorrow when I'm not feeling so yucky. Enjoy the holiday weekend :)

Hi ,I have over indulged more than usual today, but i had half of a cream egg.It was nice just getting a little taster.Gosh i do hate christmas and easter too much temptation is'nt there.Keep drinking the water to take the sickly feeling away,Bye 4 now Julie

mcwoo40 on 04/05/2007:
I live about 5 mins walk away from Southport station,we go through Ainsdale to get to frehfield pine woods, have you been there??

sugarmama on 04/05/2007:
I did the same thing tonight. Went to the store to prep for Easter weekend in order to relax and enjoy it. I bought Almond M&M's and I think I have eaten almost half the bag! (The big bags, not the individual ones!) I feel sick too. I feel your pain.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/06/2007:
oh!!! Greengirl, did you mistake the chocolate bunny for roasted bunny meat? LOL, just kidding! haha, evening having that much protein wouldn't be great for you. hmm, i wonder if rabbit is even considered part of people's diets anywhere! probably, not here though.

well, the 1,000 calories is gone and done. i hope you have a much better day today!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/06/2007:
instead of the word "evening," i meant "even" in the comment above

WorkingIt2 on 04/06/2007:
Sometimes we just have to have a taste of the high-cal stuff just to put it behind us! Have a great day!

Donkey on 04/06/2007:
The Easter candy did me in yesterday (Thursday) too. So at least you know you weren't alone. Come on, Greengirl, we can do better!

Sandra aka Soul on 04/06/2007:
But the more important issue, did you enjoy the chocolate while eating it, if you did then something positive came out of it. I can get into those moods where I just want to eat the whole thing and then I feel physically ill...all I can do is just move forward and hopefully lesson learned, which never works out for me but I try.

Have a great Easter

I'm updating early tonight while I've got the chance. I want to watch CSI later so I might not get another chance to update. It is six fifteen pm here in England so it is very early for me!!! Its usually about 9pm when I get online.

Well I remembered to put my pedometer on this morning. I put it on at about quarter to six this morning as I was leaving the house for work. I wore it all day at work, and when I got home from work I did half an hour on my treadmill at what I now think of as an easy pace (5.4 km per hour). Thats just over 3 miles and hour. I wanted to take it easy after doing my best time on Sunday. I took the pedo off about ten minutes ago which means I've had it on just over 12 hours and up to then I had taken 19,957 steps. I think that will be about average for a weekday. I used to do about 14000 at work, and my walk on the treadmill will have added the rest, together with the general walking about I've done while making our evening meal.

I will be interested to see how many steps I take at weekend, when I tend to do at least an hour on the treadmill, and plenty of walking round the shops. Whether I walk more at work or not, I have no idea.

Ive kept my calories to 1500 which is slightly higher than I aim for, but its not too bad. I am still having withdrawal symptoms from weighing every day but I will try and resist the urge!!!

Well I'm going to read diaries now. Good luck to us all this week DDers :)

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

Sandra aka Soul on 04/03/2007:
I am a compulsive weigher and have limited myself to once a month but would like to not weight at all but I do understand what you say about withdrawal symptoms regarding the scale.

I also hope that my neighbor decides to move out soon, wouldn't that be lovely.

Have a great tomorrow since it is evening for you now.

Sandra

mcwoo40 on 04/03/2007:
Hi,good work on all those steps, you don't realise how many you do in a day.I have a couple of pedometres knocking around the house somewhere.I have used them, but found it was'nt accurate. You would walk 10 steps and it would say you had done 100??I bought one from argos i think it was about 10 but that was a load of trash, so i gave up with it.Going back to the chocolate subject my fave subject, i do like cream eggs the only choco i don't like is mars bars and galaxy too sickly.I just love cadbury's full stop.Did you read my entry for yesterdat that i am taking the kids to cadbury world. It is a dear do though,Just over 100 for the 4 of us they better give me some freebies for that, that is going by coach and entry fee.Anyway keep at it,groan!!bye julie

That is GREAT! Thank you for posting your steps! That is incredible. I feel tired in my feet if I go over 10,000. I cannot imagine what it feels like to do almost twice as much as that. Well, I imagine it feels pretty wonderful, doesn't it?

Just a quick entry today. Been good with the calories but I dont do any treadmill or weights on a Monday. It's my day off exercise. I am going to renege on the challenge and instead of doing that, (and starting tomorrow if I can remember) I am going to log my steps. This is just for my own benefit really, just to see how many I do. I havent decided yet if I will post them here. I know I havent commented on many diaries tonight but I have read a lot of them. I seem to be lacking impetus tonight!!! Will catch up with you all soon, hopefully. Take care :0)

everyday can't be a hard day, in terms of exercise. if we did that, we would all lose motivation! I've taken far too many days off of yoga, not my choice, and now whenever i do it, it's full-all out- i give it my all!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/02/2007:
meaning, if you take one easy day, you'll come back in full force the next!

Donkey on 04/02/2007:
Aww, you're not going to stick with the challenge? You inspired me to try harder, you know. Well, do what is right for you, I agree. In fact, this is funny but I was considering keeping track of steps too, rather than minutes exercised. It's easier to take into account all the little walks that we take throughout the day. If you'd like to post your number of steps on days that you post, I would be interested in reading that. It's up to you though.

sharklover on 04/02/2007:
Definetly take those exercise free days and enjoy them!

I think it is a great idea to see how much walking you are doing on an average day! That will help with diet as well! My mother was shocked when she found out how much walking she was doing every day. I think it would be cool to see how much you walk each day or your weekly average, hope you decide to share! Is there anything going on sparkpeople, any challenge, about how many steps walked? You could start a challenge like that, here, for all who are interested in keeping track of their fitness that way!

Hi everyone. I am on a bit of a high today. I did my virtual 5k for SparkPeople today and clocked my personal best time so far for 5k (3.12 miles). I did it in 44 mins and 26 secs. Only three weeks ago I was doing it in over 51 minutes. Also it was my first weigh-in for two weeks and I have lost one and a half pounds. Not a huge amount, I know but I have felt like I lost my way a bit recently, so I'm happy to lose that!! Also it brings me to just being one pound away from having lost 50lbs. I think I will weigh myself in another two weeks now. I was going to leave it a month but that is too long to wait to celebrate my half century!!!

I have uploaded a couple of photos. The one on the left is just from a couple of weeks ago, when the sun came out and I ventured into my back garden to look at the ravages caused by the winter storms. The one on the right is one I found from 2004 when I weighed a fair bit more as you can probably see!!! I just wanted to show you the difference in my hip/thigh area since losing weight. I know I'm still overweight but nowhere near as big as I used to be then!!! It took me ages on paint shop pro to get them in proportion with each other but I managed it in the end.

This afternoon I have been to my sisters and we took her baby granddaughter for a long walk ( about 55 minutes at a good pace). We covered a couple of miles at least. My niece came with us with her little dog, and my daughter pushed the baby. It was a beautiful afternoon. I really enjoyed it. Shame that I am back to wotk tomorrow!!!! Oh well, someone has to pay to keep the roof over out heads!! Will catch up with you all tomorrow hopefully.

Re: The April Challenge Workingit , I have walked 50 minutes on treadmill, 60 minutes round the local shops and 55 minutes at my sisters. 165 minutes in all. I will be doing the ironing tonight but that's pretty static!! If we have to count all out physical movements in the day (as you mentioned on the challenge forum) what will I do about work. I walk round all day pushing trolley loads of books. It's a very physical job but I wouldnt want to count it towards my exercise!!!! Also because I dont drive, I get the bus and walk for 10 minutes at either end of my journey. Do I count that??

Progress as of today: 49 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!

mcwoo40 on 04/01/2007:
Hi greengirl, what am i like i need a rocket up my ass!!Thanks for the encouragement anyway.Great news on your weightloss. What a difference in those pictures, you look like a different person, a great achievement. I'm waiting for that day!!I just get peeved off all the time being good, and when i have the smallest bit of chocolate, i feel as though i have cheated, so i have some more,a vicious circle.Hopefully i will be in a better frame of mind tomorrow,I'm having my hair done tuesday, so i will be even better still,Julie

girliegirl6486 on 04/01/2007:
Great job on the weight loss so far! You look great!!!

WorkingIt2 on 04/01/2007:
Congratulations!! You must be in seventh heaven! Enjoy the rush of your hard-won success!! Think of your activity this way...some people wear a pedometer all day to track their steps and count that towards their total exercise for the day..my mom is a nurse and she logs over 25,000 steps a day. If you feel funny about recording the time for the exercise, you might want to keep a journal on the side and get a pedometer so you can see how much you walk in a given day. That is inspirational, motivational and gives you a far better health picture!

Donkey on 04/01/2007:
Wow, I thought I'd win the April Challenge for sure, since I do 1.5 hours of cardio a day at the gym. But I humbly bow to you and your efforts.

Great pictures, by the way!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/01/2007:
Hello greeny! thank you for all of your advice, i appreciate it very much! You look so dramatically different, its wonderful! gosh, you have such a great physically demanding job! I wish mine didn't leave me a choice...because I'll always take sitting over standing when given the choice...

Oh dear. Not such a good day calorie, or exercise wise today. I will get on the exercise bike later but not for 30mins so no challenge points for me today. However I have had quite a good day on the relaxation front!!

A gang of us went out from work, to celebrate the birthdays of a couple of the girls. I wasnt going to eat or drink (alcohol) but then I thought 'What the hell!!' and had a couple of glasses of cider, and then ordered a chip (fries) muffin. What can I say?? I enjoyed it. When I got home I opted to have a snooze, and my hubby left me until it was a little late to get on the treadmill. I dont like to use it in the evenings in case it disturbs the neighbours. I live in a semi detached house, so we share a wall with the neighbours and certain sounds carry. I dont mind using the treadmill during the day, when the kids next door make a fair bit of noise, but I wont use it at night, unless I know they are out.

When I woke up I resorted to eating a weightwatchers canned soup (normally I prefer proper cooked food to processed) and I havent eaten anything since so I'm probably not too high over my calories, but I feel naughty!! We all do it sometimes and it will be nose to the grindstone tomorrow. On Sunday I a doing the virtual 5k race on SparkPeople so I will be getting plenty of exercise this weekend!. Talk to you all soon. Have a great weekend :0)

Hey everyone, I'm back!!! Back to my usual self that is. All I needed was a bit of extra sleep and I'm as good as new. Actually I wish it were that easy, but the sleep doesnt help the menopausal symptoms. I just have to grit my teeth and put up with those!!!

Today I was a lot more relaxed at work. It's helping that the students finished for easter last week although a lot of them are still hanging around doing work. Also my workmate has finished for two weeks. She is a lovely lady, but grates on my nerves a bit at times. We have worked together for six years and people tend to think we are joined at the hip, or married or something. Sometimes I just like to cut loose for a while. Unfortunately I only get two days off for easter making it a long weekend. I just hope that the weather is good so I can get out in the garden and get it tidied up. Roll on Easter!!!

I have had a good day calorie wise and exercise wise. Thursday is normally my non exercise day, but I went on the treadmill tonight to make up for missing last night. I really enjoyed it. It gives me a real buzz :) .

So that's 2 challenge points today for the exercise.

I am seriously considering doing a day of rawfoodism (!!!) a week, sort of a weekly detox. i will have to sit down and think it out but I'm going to try it out. I think it's probably a good thing to be doing now, as the weather is improving. We have had a couple of lovely days, but today we were back to the rain again ! I'm going now, I've got my lunch to make ready for the morning. Sarah finishes school tomorrow, for the easter hols. Talk to you all tomorrow. Bye for now :0)

Progress as of today: 47.5 lbs lost so far, only 29.5 lbs to go!

Sandra aka Soul on 03/29/2007:
I think it's an absolutely RAWesome idea to do raw once in awhile...one day or week or whatever feels comfortable for you. Websites to check out would be Shazzie's www.shazzie.com or www.rawfood.com these sites will also link to others, have fun checking them out. It might be a good idea to also get a book about rawfood but not necessary if you do it only once in awhile. The detox is the body cleaning out and can present itself as colds or the flu, usually I get headaches for about 2 or 3 days but nothing serious...everyone is different.

When people first go raw they have a tendency to eat or overeat on the nuts and seeds but try to balance it with three things. Fats=avocados are best for this and some nuts but not alot, sugars=fruits...the sweet ones, proteins=vegetables, the greener the better. Try this dressing recipe, 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice, 1/2 cup of lemon juice (freshly squeezed as well), 1/2 cup raw tahini if you can find it, 1/2 cup of cold-pressed olive oil (which means it is processed without eat, i.e. raw) blend with some salt (preferably sea salt) and 3 cloves of garlic or more if you like this and a 1/2 tablespoon of peppercorns. This is my main dressing that I absolutely love, some people eat it like a soup but I prefer it on my salads or as a dip.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with or give you ideas for what to have but remember this....the simpler the better. There are times when I just have watermelon for dinner and that's it, easy, peasey, lemon squeezy.

See ya

Sandra

sweetpea1977 on 03/30/2007:
Glad you're back! :o)

Your idea of going raw once a week sounds great to me. Let us know how it works for ya!

Have a fantastic weekend!

biscottibody59 on 03/30/2007:
Oh hey, glad you got some rest! I know for me the older I get, the more important good sleep is. I'm worthless when I'm completely exhausted, whereas I seemed to be able to run on fumes when I was in my 20s and early 30s:-)

I saw your comment to HoP about the cheese and PB sandwiches. I worked on a construction site many years ago and had to have something that really stayed with me--short lunch and 2-10 min breaks and no stopping to eat at any other time for 10 hours--ahhh those were the days . . . NOT! I saw a suggestion at the time for cheese sandwiches with PB. It sounded perfectly revolting, but I tried it. I had homemade whole wheat bread with monterey jack cheese and peanut butter. I hadn't thought of that for years until seeing your comment!

Have a good one!

Thanks to your supportive comments I am feeling a little cheerier today, despite a terrible night's sleep last night (more of that later). I have had a good day calorie-wise but not exercised so no challenge points today. I usually have Monday and Thursday as non exercise days, but I brought it forward to today!!

I read your diaries with a little more enthusiasm tonight and I am inspired to try some different foods, and eat more raw veggies than I have been doing. I'm not going rawfoodist!! Just a little more!! I enjoy my baked potatoes, and brown rice risottos too much to say goodbye to them LOL!!! I'm hoping a few changes in my diet will kick start my weight loss again!!! I will add some raw carrot to my packed lunch tomorrow and lose the babybel cheese I think, then i can have the babybel after I have been on the treadmill, when sometimes I eat stuff that is not so good for me!!! (Who mentioned custard creams??)

It has been another beautiful day here, which i make the most of after work. I managed to get out in my little garden today. This winter we have had a lot of damage in the garden, because of high winds and general awful weather. We had to replace some fence panels and where i once had a clemtis covered arch, i now have open space!!! It's only a diddy garden but in summer we use it like another room, sitting out there and sometimes eating out there. Roll on summer!!!

Last night my husband decided to go down to his local (pub) for a pint (or three). At one time he was quite a regular drinker but he has cut back to going out just once every three weeks or so. The trouble is, once he has a drink he snores, very loudly!!! Now, bearing in mind that I have to be up at 5am, there was I at about quarter to one in the morning, wide awake, listening to my husband's (incredibly loud) snores!!! In the end I took a duvet and slept on the sofa downstairs. Can you believe I could still hear him down there!!!?? Consequently little sleep. I had to attend a union meeting today, at work, and I kept nodding off, but a friend gave me the occasional nudge to wake me up. This is why I didnt exercise today. I went up to bed and had a couple of hours sleep instead. B***dy men!!!

Thats all for today folks! Fight the good fight, and I'll be back tomorrow :0)

Progress as of today: 47.5 lbs lost so far, only 29.5 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/28/2007:
Hmmm... was he lying on his back when he was snoring? My husband only snores on his back, so if I wake him up and get him to lie on his side or on his stomach, it stops. But I guess if yours does it only rarely then it's not too much of a problem!

GG on 03/28/2007:
I HATE NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP WELL! THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD WHEN YOU WAKE UP THE NEXT DAY!!! Good Luck with everything else though!!! And Work out tomorrow!! Dont forget!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/28/2007:
i hope you get better sleep soon!

Justine6Robert3 on 03/28/2007:
I can totally relate!! My husband used to only snore when he drank or when he was over tired but now he snores every night!!! He does snore louder if he's laying on his back but he still snores in every position. It won't wake me up once I'm sleeping but it really makes it difficult to fall asleep some nights!!! Maybe that's why I'm feeling so tired these days:)

I hope you get a good night's rest tonight! The exercise can wait until your better rested. Have a good night!

sweetpea1977 on 03/29/2007:
I've learned that adding more variety to your diet will promote weightloss and one of the best ways to do that is with colorful veggies (especially raw/steamed) and raw fruits! I try to make it a goal to eat at least 3-4 servings of veggies (mostly raw) and 2-3 servings of fresh fruit a day. Most of those food items are low calorie and very fibrous, so you will get more bang for your buck (in other words, more food for less calories!).

Here are some things I do to meet my daily goals for fruits and veggies: For more filling snacks or side dishes, try adding a little protein to your serving of fruit/veggie. LF/FF cottage cheese tastes great with sweet fruits & berries and 2 tbsp of peanut butter can really jazz up apple slices and crisp celery. Or, you can always add berries and sliced peaches/bananas to a plan multi-grain cereal for a more filling meal. Broccoli and califlower florets are wonderful by themselves or with a tiny dab of fat free viniagrette on them. Spinach salad is extremely easy to add as a sidedish to your lunch/dinner. Baby carrots are lovely, right out of the fridge. The crunchiness is addicting!

Anyway, my husband is the same as yours. He snores after a few drinks, especially when on his back. The worse part is that he always falls asleep before me, so I have to become creative in order to get him to stop. Normally, I "accidentally" kick him on the leg (not hard!) and that usually makes him roll over. Or, I will toss and turn, which basically encourages him to roll over. Then, there are times when I just have to plain tell him to roll over.

If those tricks dont work, try using some natural sleeping aids on the nights he plans on drinking and go to bed before he gets home. Things that have worked for me in the past is melatonin, valerian root, and lavender based scents (bubble baths, candles, lotion). Good luck!

Sandra aka Soul on 03/29/2007:
Hey Greengirl,

I love tahini, I use it in my lemon/tahini dressing...love it. Did you know that even though the sesame seed is one of the smallest seeds it is the most when it comes to nutrition. Wouldn't that be awesome if you went raw with me, lol....no worries I understand why you wouldn't completely. I am going to order some goji berries from Tibet, I love those little berries.

I am sure that your change in diet will help your weight loss, the body needs shaking up a bit from time to time or it gets too complacent.

See you later

Sandra

Hi everyone. Sorry I didnt get on last night. It seemed a bit pointless as I had an exercise free day, and had no weight update as I am not weighing as often. I am feeling a bit down this week despite a spell of lovely springlike weather we are having. It is good to see the sunshine :)

I think I must be having withdrawal symptoms from not weighing LOL!!! Seriously, I feel tired this week. I was wondering if it's because of changing the clocks at weekend. My body thinks it is getting up at four oclock in the morning, and I am back to going to work in the dark. I am craving sweet stuff too, which is odd as i prefer savoury things to sweet things!! I'm wondering if it's menopausal or something. I have been having several hot flashes a day for the last few weeks, but for the last few days they have eased off to the odd one or so a day. I think something is changing again!!! Sometimes dont you just hate being a woman!! I cant even use TOM as an indicator as for the last 4 1/2 years I have had a mirena coil which reduces your periods to quite an extent.

Today I still did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I never have a problem with the exercise, it seems to be the best thing to cheer me up. So thats 2 challenge points for today. Will catch up with diaries tomorrow. Take care :0)

Progress as of today: 47.5 lbs lost so far, only 29.5 lbs to go!

The time changed had my body in an uproar for a week or so, so hopefully that's part of it and doesn't it always seem that some woman thing always effects you no matter what?..lol! Being a woman...I tell you, it would kill a man! LOL! Have a great night and keep up the good work with the exercise!

i'm sure they have a few calories. however, if a food as less than 5 calories per serving, it can be listed as having zero. so, i do in fact count them as zero (although there's more than one serving per bag of them...) however, 5 calories in one ounce compared to about 100 cal in one ounce of pasta is quite a difference!

Hi,it's not like you to be down in the dumps,i like reading your entries cos they cheer ME up.I suppose we can't be cheerie ALL the time can we.I read in your entry yesterday that you had the mirena coil fitted. I had one fitted last june, and i would be interested to know how you have been with it.The first few months after fitting i had real bad pain 'underneath'and around the groin area. That seems to of gone, but now about a week before i am due to to have a bleed(still having irregular periods)i get this terrible pain down my right leg, and it lasts during the bleed, and about two days after. It is like having a sharp knife scrapped down my leg.I told them at my last check-up but they said it was'nt due to the coil??The bleeding has got lighter, but this morning i had some unexpected bleeding and it was quiete heavy so i can't win.The good thing is about having it fitted is that my skin seems to of got better. They said that you have to give the coil about 6-12 months to adjust to your body.I hope you have not had any problems,as there seems to be alot of side effects with it.Hope you have had a good day, julie

Oh, you have to go to work in the dark now? That sucks! I'm sure that's part of the reason you're feeling down. When the days get longer will it be light again when you go to work?

I think it could just be because you're feeling a little down that you've been craving sweets. You know, sugar and chocolate and things like that release endorphins in the brain which make us feel happy. So could be your body is simply craving what it needs! I am a big believer in that theory. Give yourself a little treat and keep up that exercise, and hopefully you will be back to your usual self in no time!

Im sure the time change has to do a lot with your spirits. Give yourself a week or two to adjust and Im sure you'll be back to your wonderful self!

I also have a case of the, what do you call it....no energy period. I just don't seem to have the energy like I used to, maybe it's the weather for me.

You are right there are some things that I cannot eat raw but there are ways around it. Take for instance the garbanzo bean, in the dry, raw state it is hard as a rock but if you soak them overnight they soak up the water and then I can blend them (I have a vita-mix blender, very strong) I blend them with tahini (ground sesame seeds) and garlic, salt and sometimes spinach and I have hummus. I like this eating lifestyle as it makes me be creative. Another example would be califlower, this you can eat raw but I also blend it with garlic and salt and a bit of water to make "mashed potatoes". There are some vegetables that I won't eat raw such as brussel sprouts but my son will, says they are very good that way. Anyway, you get the idea.

See you later

Sandra
