Weight: 180.5

I'm online early today as I am still at home with a bad back. Feels a lot better today, so I'm hoping to be back at work tomorrow. To tell you the truth I'm fed up of just hanging around. I'm not doing any exercise, and sat around bored with nothing to do but EAT my head off!! I hope I dont do too much damage to the weightloss. It's just typical. I confess that recently, even tho' I'm staying close to my calorie budget, I am spending a higher proportion of it on empty calories (chocolate, for example). I have had a pretty good run for the last few weeks and I dont want it to be spoiled inadvertantly cos I'm laid up. At the same time I dont want to make my back feel any worse. Should I do some walking tomorrow?? Advice from you folk would be good!!!!

I've read diaries today, but because I'm feeling a little unsettled myself, I have only commented on a few of them. I will be in touch again soon. I might even get on again tonight :)

Progress as of today: 46.5 lbs lost so far, only 30.5 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/14/2007:
Gosh, I have been feeling the same way (with the exception of staying close to my calorie budget, heh)! In my case I have just been recuperating from my race. I'm not sure what the right course of action is for your back, but if I were you, I would try taking a really hot shower (with plenty of hot water on your back), and then go for a walk. If your back starts to hurt or feel tight at any time, stop. When you get home you could try icing it. Don't know if you can reach the part of it that hurts - otherwise I suppose you might have to enlist someone's help!

Thank you so much for the comment you left me. You really put things into perspective for me... and very kindly, too! It made me feel so much better. You're right - I am going to try to relax a little about this!

hollybelle on 03/14/2007:
Sorry to hear about your back. BTC has good advice on the care of it. I know what you mean about the empty calories. I know we can work any food we want to into our calorie count, but really, I am starting to see while that is true, w need to pay attention at the same time to getting all the nutrients. It's startingi to click (I think). Hang in there, sweetie!

mcwoo40 on 03/14/2007:
Hi,when i saw your nickname i thought it was very early for your diet entry.I had a bad back for 6weeks After bending down to get a box of trainers off the shop floor. Are you taking any painkillers??I went to the docs and got some strong one's but they made me constipated!!Don't force yourself to do any exercise just see how you feel and take it from there.Although throughout my backache, i still carried on working but i don't know how i did it.How about putting a hot water bottle at your back??I do feel sorry for you,get yourself a good book and make the most of it,STAY FOCUSED and don't think about food too much!!Julie

LilyV on 03/14/2007:
Sorry to hear about your bad back - hope you feel better soon. You've done so well with your weight loss - time to take stock and congratulate yourself. Stay away from the chocolate -difficult I know with all the Easter goodies around but not worth the empty calories as you mentioned. You're more than half way to your weight goal don't stop now! :) Best wishes, Lil.

WorkingIt2 on 03/14/2007:
A friend of mine has a very bad back...he had back surgery for disc problems...part of his therapy is walking and gentle stretching. You may want to consult the bus service and see if their insurance will cover for you to make a visit to the doctor..most of them do here, but not sure about where you are. I hope you feel better soon and that 'unsettled' feeling goes away!

mcwoo40 on 03/14/2007:
hi ,sister's wedding is on the 2nd of july,It's was 16weeks monday just gone so finger's crossed i can loose a fair bit of weight.I just don't want to look a fat cow in the pictures!!hope you are feeling better soon,Julie

Donkey on 03/14/2007:
I have back problems that flare up from time to time (herniated disc in the lower back). Generally, I am OK, but when I start overdoing it, and I don't listen to the little twinges in my back, my disc will flare up and I will be left flat on my back for a week. So I feel your pain. Nothing makes me feel older before my time than when my back hurts and I'm incapacitated.

sweetpea1977 on 03/15/2007:
Im so sorry to hear about your back and the effect that it has had on your mood and progress. I will say that I totally agree with BTC and WorkingIt's advice on how to handle the exercise and care for your injury.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

biscottibody59 on 03/15/2007:
For me if I'm having muscle spasms I use a heating pad. And if you don't have any really bad pain while doing so, do your regular walking. If for nothing else to distract you. It also may serve to tire you out a little so that you can sleep better. (I hope the pain isn't so bad that it's keeping you awake at night.)

I had a very serious bout of back trouble years and years ago that turned out to be a compressed nerve, which was causing relentless sciatic nerve irritation/pain. It lingered for months, sitting was the worst, I hardly slept at night. Orthopedist wanted to fuse it. A long story:-)

I hope this isn't anything remotely what you're into. I hope yours is short-lived.

On the other hand, it may be worth just seeing how you do and handling it delicately. Meanwhile I hope you're already getting to feeling better!

Evening everyone. This will just be a quick update as I dont have much to report. I stayed off work today. My back wasnt bad until I had to climb the stairs, when it really twinged. As I have to use kicksteps at work, all day long, I knew that going in would just make it worse again. Anyway, I stayed in my pjs and dressing gown all day. How lazy and decadent is that!!! :) Hubby went grocery shopping for me so everything was ok. Obviously no challenge points as no exercise today. Dunno if I'll be back to normal tomorrow but I hope so. Do your best ladies and gents, and we'll talk again soon :0)

Oh i forgot to thank you for your supportive comments yesterday. They keep me going :0)

Sorry to hear about your back, I hope you feel better soon. What an eventful morning you had yesturday at 6:30 am:)

Congradulations on loosing another 1.5 lbs, way to go!! Your getting so close to your goal!!! I must admit staying in your pj's all day long does sound nice its just to bad you had to hurt your back!

Take care of yourself, I hope your back to yourself soon!

Hi everyone. My persistence has paid off this week and I've lost another pound and a half. I know it's because I have plenty to lose !!! I have had a busy weekend this weekend. We managed to find a nice pair of red shoes for my daughter on Saturday that weren't too high. She's never been a girly girl when it comes to shoes, feeling more comfortable in tatty Converse or trainers. The shoes are sling-backs with a heel about an inch or so.

At the moment Sarah is looking for a little job to do either after school or at weekend. Unfortunately she expects me to go chasing about all over the place with her, while she is looking for one. It's taking up a lot of my time, but I am her mother, after all. Having teenagers is not the easiest thing in the world. She's a good girl at school and works hard there, so I shouldn't complain.

It's my day off from exercise today so no challenge points. I hope I will be OK tomorrow as I've got a bit of a back strain today. In fact I came home from work early with it. I wrenched it on the bus into work this morning. The driver had to do an emergency stop, when a woman , who was either drunk or high on drugs (at 6.30am!!!) decided to dive out into the road in front of him. All the passengers were thrown forward, but everyone seemed ok at the time. My back feels really sore now though. The woman in the road was dragged back on to the pavement by her 'friends' and all three of them started fighting. Just what you need to see at the start of the working week!!!

Have a good day everyone :)

Oh I forgot to mention. I had an e-mail from an old friend, who now lives in Spain. She had seen a recent photo of me on Friends Reunited and e-mailed just to commend me on my weightloss!! She last saw me in the flesh about four years ago!!!

Progress as of today: 46.5 lbs lost so far, only 30.5 lbs to go!

toady on 03/12/2007:
Congrats on losing the pound and a half. I hope that your back feels better. Take care!

borntocry on 03/12/2007:
Your daughter must be tall if she doesn't mind going around in Converse. I was always one to suffer in four-inch heels, though I had to scale down a couple of inches when I hurt my knee last year!

Hope your back feels better soon!

WorkingIt2 on 03/12/2007:
Awwww..sorry to hear about the back thing..that is awful that people are out of control so early in the morning! She is lucky she didn't get run over!

CONGRATS on the weight loss!! Look at how far you've come! YAY! What are you going to do for yourself when you hit the 50lbs lost mark? You've already lost 60% of your goal weight! That is fantastic!

sharklover on 03/12/2007:
Congrats on another pound and a half gone!

Wow, sounds like you had an exciting and eventful morning! that's crazy! Take care of your back, hopefully the pain doesn't stick around for long. :-)

mcwoo40 on 03/13/2007:
Hi greengirl, well done on your your weightloss you are doing really well.In the end i only made some chocco brownies. My willpower at the end of the day just wiltered, smelling them waffting through the house, hopefully i have burnt THEM off.My younger daughter is much a girlie girl, she could open a shoe shop,a pair of shoes for every occassion and my other daughter is alway's in her converse trainers, talk about chalk and cheese!!bye 4 now Julie.

biscottibody59 on 03/13/2007:
Congrats on the continuing loss! And I hope your back improves--I know how badly any little back twinge sucks, and if you wrenched it--take it easy!

Have a good one!

Hey everyone!!

I can't believe it's weekend again already!! The weeks are flying by. It's getting really light in the mornings when I go to work. That always makes me feel better, much better than going to work in the dark. I have had a no exercise day today in preparation for my heavier exercise over the weekend. That means no challenge points for today, but that's ok with me.

My calories have been good today, and not bad all week in fact, so I'm hoping to have lost a little by weigh-in time on Monday. I hope the weather is good, so that we can get in a decent length walk with the dog.

My daughter and I are going shopping for red shoes tomorrow (for her, not me!!). We have just bought a lovely full length red dress for her school prom, and although it is still 3 months away, it's never to early to look for the perfect accessories!!! Manchester, where we live, has brilliant shops so we're going to have a girlie day in town, together.

Have a great weekend, everyone !!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/09/2007:
enjoy yourselves, i'm sure that the way you and your daughter are planning, she'll be more than ready for from. I, myself, am not a fan of dress and shoe shopping! good luck, i hope you find the perfect shoes!

LilyV on 03/10/2007:
Hope you had fun shopping

leeumom on 03/10/2007:
Look at you---- more pounds lost and less to go! Keep up the good work. Enjoy that time looking for the prom stuff. Such good memories to look back on. I get to look at all the dresses hanging on hooks in the basement, still!!!! Guess they should be sold!

WorkingIt2 on 03/10/2007:
How FUN to have a day of browsing shops! I don't like shopping but for some reason I like browsing...I just seem to have a phobia about spending money LOL. You have come a LONG LONG way since you first started here...not only physically but mentally, it really is amazing! Gone is the timid "hope I can" and has been replaced with the beautiful and confident "I KNOW I can!" it is just wonderful! Have a great weekend!

Hi fellow DDers

Thanks for your responses to my slightly emotional posting yesterday!! I was feeling a bit overcome. I'm sorry I havent had time to read diaries tonight but I promise I will catch up with you all tomorrow evening. I havent had the chance to get on the computer until now (twenty minutes to eleven at night) so I will be going to bed soon.

In response to questions yesterday my charity run is not until June but both my daughter and I are putting in the time on the treadmill, and as soon as the weather improves we will be taking to the streets to improve our running (in my case, brisk walking!!).

I have had a bit of a strange day, foodwise! This is unusual for me as I usually have everything well organised but today i had a slight mishap and it threw me off for the whole day. I get up early (5am) and have breakfast, then take a packed lunch to work , as I work a 7 1/2hr day. I usually take two small sandwiches on wholemeal bread, an apple, a fresh tomato, a babybel cheese, and a banana. I eat the babybel at about 8.30am with a cup of tea, have the sandwich, apple and tomato at about 11am then eat the banana at about 1pm with another cuppa. I leave the banana (in a carrier bag) with my cup on the holding shelves at work. Today, for some reason, someone took my banana!!! It wasn't until I was on my way for my break that I realised it had gone. Well I was starving!!! My job is quite physically taxing, i am pushing large wooden trolleys full of books around and I'm up and down on the kick-steps all day, so you need to have plenty of energy!! Because I was so hungry I then ate when I got in from work, before I went on the treadmill. And then I ate again after I had exercised but I couldnt seem to feel satisfied and ended up snacking on a couple of chocolate biscuits. Eventually I also ate a banana before my hunger was assuaged!! I probably went a few hundred calories over my normal total, and I feel a bit unsettled now. I will leave my banana in my locker from now on, just to make sure it doesnt happen again!!!

Oh well, I'm off to bed now. Challenge points for today are 2. good night and god bless!!!

Progress as of today: 45 lbs lost so far, only 32 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 03/08/2007:
Wow, what a great sounding lunch! Im sorry someone ruined it for you today. Its amazing that a stolen banana can have such a huge impact on your day. That person messed up your rhythm!

Anyway, I think you'll be fine. You got plenty of exercise done and it doesnt sound like you went over your limit that much. Plus, sometimes its good to have a calorie spike every now and then. It keeps your body from settling into a metabolic rut!

I read as many diaries as I could today but there are so many of us now that it took me ages!! I've had another good day today. Calories round about my target and exercise enough for 2 points. I am tired tonight though so I am aiming for an early night.

I did a good thing yesterday. I decided to send a link to my online sponsorship page (for my charity run) to the email staff notice board at work. As a result my sponsored amount went up (in just seven hours) from 35 (about $67) to 107 (about $207). I also got several very supportive emails wishing me luck. I can tell you, I was very touched by this. I don't even know some of the people who have sponsored me. It has made me realise that the library isnt just the place I work, Its also a community, that contains a lot of very generous and thoughtful people. I get quite choked up thinking about it!

Keep the faith ladies and gents !!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/07/2007:

WorkingIt2 on 03/07/2007:

sandrella on 03/07/2007:
Way to go...it's nice to know that where you work really counts! I hear you on the early night...I wish it was going to be one for me....but if I don't get off this darn computer it's not going to happen...lol! Have a great night! :)

Donkey on 03/07/2007:
I just wanted to thank you for your encouraging words on my diary page. Thank you -- you'll never know how motivating you have been to me.

Before I had children, I was a university library assistant. Library people (personnel) are the coolest people I've met as a collective. Usually you can count on them being pretty nice people. Quirky, interesting, but pretty much down to earth. That's wonderful that you have a group like that at your job to sponsor your run. YAY!!

sweetpea1977 on 03/07/2007:
How nice ! I got choked up reading about you getting choked up. :o) When is the charity run? Im sure you've mentioned it before, but I wanna be sure I get to wish you good luck before it happens! :o)

borntocry on 03/08/2007:
Ohh, that's so cool! I also got choked up reading about you getting choked up, haha! I wish I worked at a library. I love books and used to practically live in the library at school. And most of the time I was the only one there!

Do keep us informed on this charity run so we can encouarge you and support you too!

Justine6Robert3 on 03/08/2007:
That really is great that so many people are behind you and sponsering you. Its amazing how touching peoples kindness can be, even when it comes from total strangers. Its good to know that there are still some really great people out there with all the horrible things that go on these days!

I also love the library and love to read. I take my son there once a week and we take out between 20-40 books each week for his sister and him. Yes, we usually do read all of them in one week!! I read to my kids every night in their beds, they love it and I really enjoy it also! Both of my children have always been surrounded by books and they both have a real love for them. My daughters school teachers are always so thrilled that when she gets free play time at school she often goes to books and puzzles over the toys!

I did have that talk with my husband and he is going to stop buying the chips constantly!! He is for the most part very supportive of me but he is just not ready to change all of his habits along with me, not yet anyway, I'm working on it!! He is making subtle changes with his eating habits. He is no longer eating white bread or pasta, we only buy whole wheat. He doesn't love the whole wheat pasta but he's going along with it! I guess I can't expect him to change over night, he has to decide he wants to make the change for himself.

As for my mom, you are so right!! There is no stopping her, she won't listen. She thinks they are kids and they should be able to have lots of treats!! Its no wonder I've had such terrible eating habits my entire life!! She wants to be the Nanny that just spoils her grandchildren and she basically gives them what ever they want!! Even if I tell her they can't have something she will then sneak it to them when I'm not in the room or not looking!! Yes, this can be frustrating but really not worth making a big fuss over.

Keep us updated on the charity run!! Have a great day!

biscottibody59 on 03/08/2007:
What a great response from the people in your area! Nothing like a few more people to cheer you on for your race/run!

Have a good one!

Well it's weigh-in day and guess what!! After last week's slip up I have lost 3.5 lbs . YAY!!! I know that at least a pound or two was water retention last week, as my ankles and fingers swelled and took a couple of days to go down. I'm still thrilled to bits though. It gives me the opportunity now to aim for a couple of mini targets. First I am aiming to be out of the 180s within a week or two. Secondly I am aiming to have an overall loss of 50lbs within the next four weeks tops!!!

Congratulations to everyone on the results of the February challenge, especially sharklover for doing so well. I have had a day off today from my exercise, so no points for me today. Anyway I will love you and leave you. I hope we all have a great day tomorrow!!!!

Weight: 185.5

Hi everyone. This is my last entry before my weigh-in day tomorrow and I can tell you, I am a lot more confident that I will have lost weight this week, than I was last week. I have been pretty good this week and kept up with my exercise.

My March challenge points for today are 2

I used the treadmill for 45 mins today, but instead of going for a really brisk pace I cranked up the incline and went for a steadier pace. I could feel the difference in the muscles in the back of my thighs and calves. I did that for 25 mins and then went back to the flat for 20 mins. It was so much easier on the flat!!! I think I will alternate flat and incline days from now on. I did a few minutes on the exercise bike while I was doing the evening meal too. Tomorrow I usually take a break from exercise, but I will see how I feel when I get home from work. I seem to have a lot more energy these days. Isnt it odd that when you are reducing the amount of food you eat ( and thus logically, the amount of energy your food provides) you can actually feel as if you have more energy!!!

Anyway folks, good luck to us all in the coming week. Happy healthy eating!!!!

Progress as of today: 41.5 lbs lost so far, only 35.5 lbs to go!

borntocry on 03/04/2007:
I know, I also find it strange how back in the days when I was eating enough for a small village and never got any exercise, I had so much less energy than I do now. I was always fighting to stay awake at work and even walking to the train station left me drained and exhausted. I suppose maybe all our energy was going into digesting all that food and turning it into fat, haha!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/04/2007:
i guess you are still eating the right kinds of foods and enough to give your body the energy it needs! when we eat too much food, it's unhealthy....(even if the actual food is really healthy, but too much of it!)

WorkingIt2 on 03/05/2007:
Great job! I agree with you about the energy output vs. caloric input lol. I started doing the HIT and part of that was to also do my squats and lunges slower and hold the position for a few seconds...holy smokes yes I have muscles in my glutes because, honey, I can feel them! LOL Have a great day and good luck on the weigh in!

sweetpea1977 on 03/05/2007:
Good job on the treadmill. I like your plan to alternate your incline levels. That will keep your body interested and maximize your weight loss potential!

Good luck at your weigh in!

PS. Cute photo below!!

WorkingIt2 on 03/05/2007:
February challenge points are posted! Congratulations!!

Moody on 03/05/2007:
I think I will give the incline a try as well...you could really feel the differnce? Was it harder cardio wise or did you feel it in the muscles more? Or both? Great idea!

Good luck at your weigh in. You are doin brill. What I do on the treadmill is walk at a fast pace on a flat for 10 mins then run for 5-10 mins then increase the incline to full whack for 10-15mins then on flat for another 10 mins its knackering but I feel like I have worked out.
