  I am very happy with my loss this week as I have struggled quite a bit. I'm suddenly feeling hungry quite a lot !!  I know that I won't be able to keep losing a pound and a half every week, it's not sustainable for ever and I really thought it would be just a pound this week so


I have walked  on the treadmill 4 times this week but I also did a couple of hours shelving at work which is as good as a workout. It involves carrying books, pushing a heavy trolley full of them and getting up and down on a kickstep to reach the highest shelves plus lots of stretching. Years ago my job was to shelve all day long and I had great defined muscles in my arms and shoulders but now I help students with queries on the reception/customer services desk and you don't get nearly as much exercise there. I am working my way up to using the sparkpeople workout dvd. There are 7 ten minute workouts on it so I thought if I get up 30 minutes earlier every day I could do one of them before work.

Great progress! You should be able to up your calories a bit and still lose as you gain muscle, so just make sure you're not too hungry all the time. I hope you have a great weekend!

Despite a difficult week foodwise I have managed to lose a pound and a half again. I have been at home on leave this week and have had much more temptation, with access to a full fridge all day every day. I have exercised more (six out of the last seven days, mainly treadmill and some dogwalking too) so I think that has helped me weightwise. My sister (bless her) says I look slimmer every time I see her but I just think it's because I have started to wear some smaller clothes instead of sticking with the baggy ones. 

This morning an exercise video came for me from Amazon. It is the SparkPeople 10 minute workouts. I will have a look at them and start to put a bit of variety in my exercise, I just have to be careful of my arthritic knee. It's fine with walking forward but I can't do anything that requires twisting or swivelling as it sets the knee pain off !!

One problem I have been having in the last week is that my husband has started to eat chocolate in front of me. When I first started to cut back a few months ago, he would avoid eating sweets and biscuits in front of me but suddenly he is chomping away again. He did this the last time I lost weight and it was the beginning of the end of my willpower. This time however there is more at stake than vanity, it is my health I'm concerned about so if he thinks I'm going to join him slobbing about on the couch eating chocolate (giving myself diabetes into the bargain)  he's got a surprise coming. If I thought he was doing it conciously to annoy me I would have to kill him !! I wonder how healthy the diet is in prison??

Progress as of today: 40.5 lbs lost so far, only 36.5 lbs to go!

Hi Anne. I used to hate it when others were eating sweets or junk stuff in front of me, but anymore I have started noticing how bad I feel after I eat it - I don't mean mentally/emotionally feeling bad - I mean actually physically feeling bad. So I dont' hate it as much. When I stop and think about it - it's really nasty stuff except in extreme moderation. I also feel just a little bit wiser and "superior" to the one eating the junk....maybe that's mean, I don't know. Also I have been able to have just ONE bite of stuff lately - I have done that a lot this week as there has been a bunch of sweets around the office and that daughter has made, and our anniversary, too! So - consider the alternative and try to take the emotions out of it - try to change your thinking about husband and his choices and maybe your felings about it will change.....just a suggestion. On the other hand - how's his health? Can you encourage him to go a healthier route, too? Non of us, hardly, counld not benefit from some improvement! :o)

ugh. that is so wrong. my hubby has told me a few times, are you eatting what your cooking? and I was like I can't eat this crap so no I am cooking for you then cooking mine, and he has taken over. but lately he's stopped doing that so I have started cooking stuff I can eat too. Prison food is nasty.

Well done Anne,it all adds up.My hubby does that too brings stuff home,cakes and iced fruit buns and he knows i like them, i think he does it on purpose so he can sabotage my good work.I gave them away last time he did it,this time i just lobbed them in the bin.This week my knees have been giving me jip,think it's kicking alfies ball around the park every 2 secs.Bury him under the patio,no-one will find out!!!!Have a good week ahead Anne

Chocolate is a horrible temptation for me! Luckily my hubby is more into savory treats and those aren't as tempting for me. Oh and I think maintenance is harder than losing, I'm definitely struggling with it. You're doing great, keep up the good work!

Well I've updated my weight and I'm really pleased to have lost another pound and a half.  Today I wore the jeans I've been avoiding since about 2009 !!  They fit really well too. My sister said she can't believe how different I look in them compared to all the baggy clothes I've been wearing for weeks. Time to have a clear out of the wardrobe and put the next size stuff in. Luckily I've got a pile of stuff from when I lost weight before or it would be going to cost me money!!  Hope you all have a good week this week :-)

Great stuff on the weightloss.That's the only downside of loosing weight getting new clothes costs a fortune.I have bought to new pairs of jeans and i have to wear a belt with them too now.Have you tried those quorn bangers with branston pickle in £1 from Morisson's there ok.They are supposed to be for the bbq so maybe thats where i went wrong :/Here's to another good week for us.I'm off this week so hope the flamin weather picks up,ta ta

Just a quick update as tomorrow is my weighing in day, so I will be back then.  I have had real internet problems this week. I bought a new wireless router because my son, whose bedroom is at the back of the house and furthest away from where the router is set up, was having problems getting a decent signal. I bought the same make router as we've used for years, but a vastly superior (and far more expensive) model with a much wider range. Of course it won't work properly, losing the internet periodically and only loading half of the pages you are trying to access.  I have tried alsorts to get it to work but finally have given up an reinstalled the old router so the rest of us are happy, but son is pulling his face!!  He was the only one who did better with the new one.

I am off work, on annual leave for the next week so, if the weather is kind, I intend to have a trip around the local garden centre for bedding plants to add some colour in pots to the garden and spent some time out there. the garden is fairly straight at the moment but definately lacking in colour except for green. I will put a couple of pictures up so you can see what it looks like at the moment and when I've got my bedding plants up and running I will take more pics for you to see.


This is my small back garden. I usually put a couple of troughs filled with begonias in front of the little fence and various pots with lillies, poppies and what have you on the steps

this is the little side garden. I usually have a gazebo up here so we can still sit out there if it is warm, even when it is raining :-)

I have heard more people have router problems here in town and on line as well. I wonder what is up with that. I goes to figure that a new and improved model would be difficult, doesn't it? Your yard, garden and patio look very nice. I will look forward to seeing it after you get your plantings done. I should take a few pics of ours, but wouldn't you know it = it's raining here and I'll probably forget once it stops. Our grass is already beginning to turn brown. That is the way it is in this region. It rains non-stop for Spring and then burns to a crisp in Summer. So sad. I planted three pots with identical annuals and two are doing wonderfully well, but one has a particular plan that isn't thriving. It's the prettiest on of course. Here we say that to plant attractive pots you are supposed to have a Thriller, a filler and spiller. It works well. In this case it is the spiller that is looking puny. I'll look for your post about your weigh-in tomorrow. Gardening is good exercise.

I'm a bit later than usual doing my weekly update because I worked today, covering a shift for a colleague who is on holiday.  Well I managed to get under 190 even if it's only by half a pound.  I am very pleased though. This week quite a lot of people have been asking me if I'm losing weight. . I've reached a sort of inbetween size. Lots of clothes seem to be hanging off me, but the next size down seems to pull in funny places. Seems like I just can't win. Another five pounds loss should do it though so they will fit properly in a few weeks.  The weather here has been lovely for the last couple of days so I hope it is nice tomorrow for my only day off this week.

Hi everyone, just a quick update to let you know I'm still hanging in there :-)

I've updated my weight again and I'm hoping by next week I will be in the 180s.  A month ago when my daughter went back to her Uni after the Easter vacation I wanted to lose 7 or 8 pounds before I saw her again. Well we're going to pick her up tomorrow for the summer break and I have managed  to lose 6 pounds but I'm very pleased with that :-)  I know that I have gained muscle and a little definition  on my legs because of all the work I have been putting in on the treadmill so my overall shape has definately improved.

I'm still doing a long shift at work every Wednesday night but I'm finding them easier to deal with now. I've worked out a routine that helps me survive them better and I only have two more left to do :-) I am tired though !!  I'm on a long weekend at the moment. We have a bank holiday on Monday and I tagged a days annual leave on to it to give me a four day weekend. I knew we would be bringing Sarah home this weekend and thought I might need the extra day off to get tidied up before she gets home :-)

I hope you are all doing well with your endeavours and I will be back soon :-)

Hey everyone


I hope you have all had a good week and are enjoying your weekend. I have had a bit of a hard week which has interfered in some ways with my fitness schedule.  On wednesday I had to work a long late shift at work. This is because I work in an academic university library and when it is exam time (from beginning of may until June 8th) our library is open 24/7. As I work on the reception and enquiries desk, our  desk has to be manned until 11.30pm when security guards take over. This year we have manned it on a voluntary basis but the way it has been handled by management means that we felt obliged to 'volunteer' !!  I will be there every Wednesday night. This week I worked from 2 pm til the end of the shift at 11.30 then had to be in work for my next shift at 9am on Thursday !!  Someone told me that is illegal as there should be a clear 12 hours between the end of one working day and the beginning of the next. The result is that I was shattered and didnt get on the treadmill from Monday night until Saturday morning. Next week, now I know what to expect I will plan my treadmill sessions better and perhaps use it only 4 times a week until the end of the exams when I can get back to normal :-)  I'm sure it would be easier if I were younger but, to be honest , it has been a bit too much for me now I am 56.

Anyway, enough of my complaining. Apart from the exercise blip I have been making good progress, keeping to good calorie levels and eating all sorts of healthy foods. Hope you all have a great weekend ,

Hiya Anne,those hours seem gruelling,thought mine where bad :/ I suppose we have to be grateful in this day and age we have a job with the way things are going.I'm finding this time round the exercise is making me tired quickly.I am up early for work and it works out about 2hrs exercise a day,it's workin so i am going to stick to it.I suppose the lighter i get the easier it's going to be,she says.Has'nt the weather been flaming miserable,think we've had our summer.Here's to another good week :)

Well even though I'm eating more I'm still losing the weight !!  Hollybelle I think it was you who asked how much more  the dietician told me to eat. She estimated my calories and told me to eat at least 200-300 more a day which isn't so bad. She thinks I was only eating about 1300-1400 cals a day and that 1500-1800 would be more reasonable in the long term.

 She also said that I could eat cheese in moderation to make up the calories when I told her that  was what I really missed.  The problem with that is  I find it hard to eat cheese in moderation. In fact it is one of the major factors in finding myself at this weight in the first place !  I don't know whether to buy some of the small individual snack cheeses and see if I could leave it at one a day, or play safe by staying cold turkey on the cheese. I have been eating virtually fat-free cottage cheese but it just ain't the same!

I haven't been writing down what I eat, or counting calories this time but I'm thinking or doing so, just to keep an eye on the carbs situation, what with the whole glucose intolerance thing I've got going on. What do people think?? Advice anyone??

Makes sense. You know technically if we calculate the amount of activity we will commit to do on a regular basis, and our ideal weight we want to be we can eat the amount of calories (maintenance calories) for that ideal weight and if eat that amount of calories and if we are over that ideal weight we will lose weight. It's slower, but you know it will work. It also keeps our bodies from thinking they are going into starvation and shutting our metabolism down so that we plateau. I like that thinking. I like your idea of buying individual servings of cheese. I like low fat cottage cheese, ot the fat free and I have been eating the LF CC a bunch with fruit for protein lately. Another tactic for limiting the cheese is cut your slice and then put the block in a zip lock bag way in the back of the frig. I find I am too lazy to reach way back there and get it out again for another piece most of the time! LOL! I also love the cheese sticks. More expensive, but worth it if it helps us reach out goals. I don't know about not counting cals. Maybe talk it over with dietitian. I have to count or I "estimate" too low........have a good weekend and Happy Mother's day tomorrow - or is that just a holiday in the US?

When I was really on top of my game (18 months ago) & logging my food religously, I hit a plateau. So I started using a calorie counter & was shocked to find out that I wasn't consuming enough calories for the amount of exercise I was doing AND that of all things, I wasn't getting enough FAT! It was an eye opener, that's for sure. I hope you are able to find a happy median with the cheese. If a doctor told me I could start adding potato chips into my diet "in moderation", I don't know if I could do it... (they're MY cheese). I can never stop at "moderation"!! ;c)

I think that it is really important for you to write down what you eat and how much and also the balance of carb/protein. Until you get use to your new way of eating and until you get a few weeks of more weight loss with your higher calories. It is very tricky to keep everything in balance and lose weight. Good luck:)

I was fuming Anne coz i lost a long entry, i cba writing it again :O I have simmered down now.Look at you another 2lbs off,well done.The weather has been awful today has'nt it.Just got in from taking Alfie and the heaven's opened,next minute the sun is cracking the flags :/Done a fair bit of exercise this week,even went to the ainsdale nature reserve,trecking up and down the hills,made a change to go there,even got hubby off his backside.Here's to the start of week 6 for me,kinda getting into it now :/

It's very risky for me to keep cheese in the house! Are you supposed to be monitoring your blood glucose? If not, seems the losing pounds is what's going to work for you, whether you count calories/carbs or not. (I guess that reflects my personal attitude about ME counting--I can get into it, but I don't like doing it all that much.)

I'm not an expert for sure, but when something works and you can live with it/manage it--that's a huge deal.

I cannot stand fat-free cheese (cottage or otherwise)!

Hell Anne,i did'nt see any red squirrels when we where there,if there is some they will be at formby pinewoods.Think the grey ones are taking over :/We live about 15mins drive from ainsdale near the town centre,on a main busy road.I hate it but we have done alot to our house and having to start again, can't afford to move any way.When the girls have moved out i will get myself a bungalow,put hubby in the shed at the back of the garden with his xbox :)))Have yourself a good week
