I hope you have a good day healthgirl. You are doing really well.

KathyBlue on 08/30/2010:
You're doing great, girl!!! :-) The balance is very important. I have so much to lose (I mean, weight, hihi) and even then I can identify your struggle of losing 18 lbs.. I will be there, too! :-) Though I won't ever reach 120 lbs because I'm taller (1,70 meter) and my goal weight is, well, right now 160 lbs, and then we'll see. I envy your strength to carry on with these body trainings because I really dislike gym and it doesn't motivate me. I'm into fun sports like tennis, swimming (but not alone)...

your calories intake was almost the same for that day, keep it going

Weight: 137.4

B:  3/4 egg, 1 bran muffin

L:  thai spicy beef salad (it's very light)

D:  salad with brisket from Chipotle and 1 bran muffin

I've decided I'm also going to record how the food makes me feel.  Basically, what I'm finding is that eating in general makes me feel like my thyroid is swelling. . . This is especially true when I eat carbs/sweets. . . For those of you who do not know, I had half my thyroid removed 10 years ago, and I took myself off of my medication (thyroid supplement) 2 years ago (under doc's supervision).   Ideally, I want to eat for fuel and to help my body maintiain/gain health.

I really think carbs (especially breads) aren't helping.  What DOES help is vegetables, coconut oil, and a bit of meat (based on how I feel after eating them).  I really want to incorporate more into my diet.

Today at church, I felt very convicted by the idea of EVERYTHING belonging to God.  I kept thinking, "even my body belongs to God".  I want to be available to serve others and God as much as possible, and this means letting go of my own goals for myself.  As I do, and as I let go of food addictions and food idols, I want to make choices for health and life.

Glad to see your post healthygirl. I hope you have a good weekend, what a good idea to put the weigh in day in your information. That's great way to help each other keep in the right direction. Hope you are feeling those hunger pangs!! :)

healthygirl on 08/28/2010:
Thanks so much for following and encouraging me, Moogy! I am definitely getting better at waiting until I feel a hunger pang to eat. . . now to practice stopping when full. My little mantra is patience, practice, and prayer-- If I approach each day with that attitude, rather than seek perfection, I feel much more peace :)

willbe110lbs on 08/28/2010:
Your going to lose much faster than me with all the exercise your doing! Your slimmer than me, you weigh less and your taller. Jealous! My GW is less than yours though I guess so it may even out I suppose! Where about are you from? Thanks for gettin in touch and for the support. xx

(Hunger/Fullness and Exercise)
Weight: 137.4

Really started trying to wait for hunger to eat, and I did wait once, so that is good. . . I'll continue to work on it and gradual progress is progress :).

Food--

half of chik-fil-A chicken biscuit, half of cheeseburger, 3 small bran muffins with butter and jelly, portion of fried okra with ketchup, portion mashed potatoes, 2 small muffins, cup of milk with Ovaltine

Exercise-- Yoga (60 min)

Progress as of today: 0.6 lbs lost so far, only 17.4 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/24/2010:
OK, if you are getting in tune with what your body needs - that's a good thing. Are you trying to eat any particular types or quantities of food on your program?

healthygirl on 08/24/2010:
Ultimately, I'd like to eat only when I'm hungry and stop when full, and to make healthy choices that consist of mostly meats and veggies (PaleoDiet-esque). However, I really believe in setting small, manageable goals, so for now I am trying to focus on not overeating. Once I am a bit better at obeying my body's hunger/fullness cues, I'll begin to work on food content. Hope that makes sense and doesn't sound like a cop-out.

moogy on 08/24/2010:
Thanks for all the info healthygirl. I am very interested in the coconut oil, I might just have to have a look for it and give it a try. I think you have to do whatever makes sense to you - if ever you need advice about anything - all you have to do is ask.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/25/2010:
YUM! i love biscuits. I had really never eaten them until this year, i'm turning 28! they are really satisfying with an eggwhite or slice of cheese. i sometimes put a bran cracker with lots of fiber in a heated up one. makes it really filling!

McCindy on 08/25/2010:
What you ate sounds like a typical day for me. I know on Weight Watchers, I need to eat more fruits and vegetables to stay within my 'points' I'm constantly going over points because I want to eat something sweet all the time.

Hey all!!! Did you know? Yes, we're all supposed to drink tons of water BUT the water absorbed from fruits & Vegetables instead of just directly from water causes your skin to be more plump and youthful looking? Interesting! Just read it in 'InStyle' magazine's Makeover issue with Jennifer Hudson on the cover.

(Hunger/Fullness and Exercise)
Weight: 136.4

In preparation for returning to work next week, I am starting to wake up early this week. . .I really am a morning person, so this fits me better anyways than the night-owl hours of my husband.  I know I'll be writing about him a lot, because we just got married 3 months ago, so he is a big adjustment in my life :).  Anyways, I've gained 10 pounds since our wedding (even though I think I was at my lowest weight since high school at our wedding, so this really is more typical weight for me as an adult).  It felt great to be thinner, and I'd like to get back there

I stuck to my diet most of the day, which felt great.  I definitely overate at dinner, which I think triggered a binge (ice cream, of course).  I told myself it was the last time.

My problem is that I would like to follow a diet based on Hunger and Fullness, without any rules relating to WHAT or WHEN I eat.  To me, this type of a diet seems more natural than cognitive food rules.  The proble is that I still TRY to be healthy, but then I end up feeling deprived, so I overeat on sweets.  From now on, I'm going to focus on enjoying every bite and eating what I like. . . and STOPPING when I'm full! :)

Thanks for the encouragement~. . I can use it! :)

Breakfast-- bit of fish, some peanuts

Lunch-- 2 bran muffins, some eggs (with onion and peppers), sausage, coffee with cream and sugar

Dinner-- bruchetta with hummus and tomato and olive oil, pecan crusted chicken

Snacks-- 8 100-calorie ice cream bars, Fresca. . . driving around, telling myself this will be the last time i do that. . . HOPE SO!

Exercise-- Yoga (60 min), brisk walk (30 min), swim (10 min)

Progress as of today: 1.6 lbs lost so far, only 16.4 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/23/2010:
I think if we could stop when we were full we wouldn't be here. Unfortunatly, fullness doesn't seem to stop most of us from eating. I hope you can avoid eating too much, I think you may trigger yourself with sugar. Great exercise - good for you!

moogy on 08/23/2010:
Thanks for the info, I googled and had a read, very interesting. So do you use it like you use olive oil? Do you find it hard to fit in to a calorie controlled diet or are you just depending on the fullness factor for your weight loss? Hope you don't mind me asking questions, I am just interested - I use olive oil - for it's medicinal qualities and flavour and just wondered about the comparison between the two oils.

KathyBlue on 08/24/2010:
yeah, my man is a night-owl, too. I have my fights over this, because it would be sooo good going to bed together and waking up together. But well... :( As for the encouragement, I'm pretty sure you can do this! We are strong, and together we go far! :)

V on 08/24/2010:
You can do it!!

healthygirl - Sunday Aug 22, 2010
(Hunger/Fullness and Exercise)
Weight: 137.6

This weekend was so much fun.  It has been wonderful t to develop deeper friendships this summer.  I really enjoyed today-- I cooked lots and cleaned lots, but I'm a new wife who is burnt out from TONS of studying in grad school, so it was actually really relaxing and centering.   I know I'll be super busy with work (final year of PhD is internship) soon, so I'm making the most of the summer and free time!

I feel really empowered, because I cooked a delicious dinner tonight.  I tried Pad Woon Sen at a restaurant and loved it, so I decided to try cooking it at home.  Keep in mind, I had no idea what I was doing. . Off i went to Whole Foods to buy Mung Noodles and fish sauce.  After an hour of work (everything was very finely chopped) dinner was served-- viola!  My hubby said it was the best food he'd ever had.... Awesome!  It feels empowering to actually be able to cook something a little exotic! :)  What a blessing that I actually like cooking!

Okay, here is my Work Out/ Exercise for the day. . .

Food:

Breakfast-- none (slept in)

Lunch-- salad and soup from Jason's Deli

Dinner-- Pad Woon Sen

Snacks-- some Nilla wafers, frozen yogurt with hubby, 2 pieces dark chocolate (spread over the day. . .definitely could have restrained myself more)

Exercise-- walk around block with hubby, cleaning for about 2 hours, too

I start work in about a week-- wish I were a bit thinner, so I could buy new clothes that fit well and look great.  Oh well, I'm going to accept where I am and embrace LIFE.

I'm so thankful for life and for the opportunity to grow and improve and DIG IN every day! :)  Night!

Progress as of today: 0.4 lbs lost so far, only 17.6 lbs to go!

V on 08/22/2010:
Hey girly! I haven't been able to post lately but i did want to congratulate you on your loss :)

moogy on 08/23/2010:
It is wonderful to read that you are feeling so wonderful. It is a blessing to enjoy cooking, it gives you pleasure, control and satisfaction. Nice that your hubby walks with you. That's nice. Have a good day tomorrow.

cleaneating on 08/23/2010:
Yeah for feeling good :)

You asked if I feel deprived in any way, well I can honestly say no,I am not really looking at my weight loss this time (though it is going well),I really want to change my lifetsyle and be healthier and fitter in the long term,so I have plenty of fruit and veggies which is so easy at this time of year as its summer.I also make sure I do my workouts, and this has been the key to my weight loss. I have little bit of chocolate every day still as I have a sweet tooth, and I believe in the phrase everything in moderation.

You will reach your goal, just take it a day at a time :)

Maria7 on 08/23/2010:
Hello to you. Thanks for the comment. Hope you are having a nice day. I think a walk around the block is a good exercise. My Hubby and I also walk together sometimes. :-)
