Hey guys.  Sorry for the long absence.  I took on some part time work!  I love it, but I am not sure how busy I can stay with it.  I signed on as a benefits enroller with a voluntary/worksite benefits carrier.  It involves travel to various employers and meeting with their employees, explaining their benefits programs and helping them fill out paperwork.  There is more to it than that, but that's the gist of it.  I have worked 4 days so far.  It pays very well and I hope I can get enough work through them throughout the year that it will see me through to full retirement age!  I can accept or reject jobs as they are offered. 

I haven't been keeping up with exercise and I have been doing so-so on food.  That will change (AGAIN) though.  I just have to establish my routine.  Having a harder time than I thought.

I cooked Thanksgiving dinner yesterday for family.  Husband's family is coming here for Christmas this year-same crew that comes on Memorial Day.  I bought a new Christmas tree (for baby girl - she LOVED it as in "Oh, it's SO Beautiful, Granny") and it's up, but only lights on it so far.  Going to decorate tomorrow and Sunday.    

Ate left overs today.  Only one meal - will just snack for dinner later.

I am so happy you have chosen to find work and were so successful in doing so! Congrats to you on your new job. Please keep us in the loop with how its going. What an interesting time of year for you to start working right around holiday time. That's great you say the job also pays well...always helps ;)

Yes, it surely does take time to change or make a new routine. Try to keep as much as you can the same i guess, and only change what needs to be right now for the job...and then you can make more changes as you see fit. That's at least the advice i'd give myself if i needed to make a big change...and it's the same advice i hope i remember when my changes come in the summer! :-D

How sweet you cooked Thanksgiving :-). I feel it's not an easy task & many people just can't take it on. Good for you! and i'm glad that the baby girl said she loves the tree. How special! :)

I hope you continue to have a wonderful holiday season. Pleasure to read your entry.

Routine is everything, I have found. Once I can establish a habit, I'm good to go. Of course, part of that might just be my personality too-- feeling obligated to meet the requirements of a routine, LOL.

Hi everyone.  Sorry for the absences lately......laptop that I usually use to post and comment Is "broken".  It is about 6-7 years old and I don't know if it can be fixed.  My husband's laptop is also on the fritz.  I am using our desk top here at the house.  It is fine, but in the basement and I have to stop and come down here to use it.  It's not in my "routine" in other words.  Or basement is finished and everything, but I just don't come downstairs every day.  I will use desk top until I fix or replace the laptop.  I have been thinking about getting a tablet instead of a laptop since I only use laptop to surf and use the desk top for any business.  Any opinions on that?

I have done OK on food.  Maintaining right now is the name of the story.  We walked on Saturday and Sunday.  Sunday we went to the Nature Conservatory - Raven Run.  I have posted about it before.  We walked/hiked around 3 miles.  There was a lot of climbing, though. 

Today I am going to WASH at least ONE of the dogs - probably the biggest one that smells the worst - the Labby Boy.  That will be enough exercise for me today.  If I still have energy and time I will wash the collie girl.  She needs lots of brushing so may brush today and wash tomorrow. 

We are having grill chicken tonight, corn on the cob, salad and roasted potatoes. 

I applied for a PT job on Saturday, on line.  It is for something very related to some of my experience.  It is a long shot, but we'll see. 

I am looking for a Christmas tree (fake) to put up this year.  I haven't done it in many years because no one cared about it but me and it was too much trouble when I was working.  But I like it and think I'd like to have one again.  Need to find a realistic one for a good price.

Yeah what is it with laptops / computers / iphones! they just don't last forever! and seems they really die out within 4 years or don't withstand the changes in technology! I had the weirdest dreams this weekend about technology actually!

I'm maintaining too...feels good. Have had only small ups which have made it easier to fall back down :) I cannot crash diet & do not really want to face any large weight struggles for many months & years to come. Maintenance is wonderful once I have really started to hack it! still sometimes a struggle, but much less of one.

Dinner sounds tasty & healthy....

Yesterday was a very busy day and I was happy.  First was the professional association event that I worked very hard on.  Turnout was good and everyone was pleased.  The meeting was about 40 minutes away in Frankfort, KY (our state capitol)  Then I had lunch with my friend who lives in Frankfort - she is the one who house / dog sat for us while we were out of town.  We went to a little home-cooking place and had vegetable plates.  It was really pretty good.  I had green beans, cauliflower and cheese, lima beans and sweet potatoes.  It was all good except the sweet potatoes.  They also had HOMEMADE pie.  I had a piece of coconut cream pie.  It was good (not as good as mine or my dad's, but good).  I ate very light dinner after that....apple and peanut butter.  After I got home my friend came over and we made 250 presentation packets for her job.  She had asked me to help her because she has a big presentation next week and will be out of town beginning today and didn't know if she would be able to get them done. I have more counter space than she does so we did it here.  Easy but big job.

Husband is out of town until 5:30 tomorrow.  I will have the baby girl tomorrow.  Her school is out.  

Blew leaves into submission front and back again this morning.  That is enough exercise for me today.

I'm Baaaaaaaccccckkkkkk.......

Trip to Florida was great except we had an overnight delay on the flight home!  Only the 3rd time that has ever happened to me in my life. Delta put us up in a hotel for the night and we flew out the next morning.  Home 24 hours later than expected. 

Walked almost 5 miles almost every day.  Walking on the beach was a lot harder than usual walking on sidewalk, etc.  Ate OK while in Florida. No great meals.  Have kind of blown it on candy the last two days while at home, though.  The weather was great and the beach was most beautiful - sugar white sand and blue green water (sand is quartz actually).  We didn't do all that much besides read and walk.  Took drives to a couple of state parks and the National Seashore Preserve.  Gorgeous!  Pictures really don't do it justice.  Had forgotten how pretty it is.

Handed out candy to trick or treaters last night.  Baby girl was very cute in her Tea Pot costume.  She was pretty excited about it all.  This is the first year she has understood much of what was going on.  She wanted to "share" her candy with everyone - well, that and eat it all herself.  At one point she had a different sucker in each hand!  She managed to eat some spaghetti and meatballs, too, though.  We had about 100 trick or treaters not as many as in the past, but a lot.  I still had candy left over.  I gave our the snickers, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers, Twix minis.    

Worked hard out in the yard yesterday and today-LEAVES.  We have lots of BIG TREES front and back.   Going to wash dogs tomorrow while it is still so unseasonably warm and they can dry outside. Will do that in the afternoon as I have a meeting in Frankfort tomorrow morning for professional association. 

The yard work and dog washing will be my exercise through tomorrow as all of that is very physical.  After that I'll get back to walking.  

Will try catching up on everyone's posts.

What was the reason for the overnight delay....that could really stink especially if you plan to work or get paid the next day!!!!!!!! but in general, it can be bad. it's good they paid to have you stay in a hotel...

that's great walking and yes i know from experience that walking on beach is another whole feel & challenge!!

omg! i haven't seen any baby girl tea pots! cuteness...do you have a photo of that???? ????

all babies are so cute when dressed up for Halloween!

Rosalie's pic as a Tea Pot is on my FB page. She didn't want to have her pic taken without her Mommy, who was dressed as "Dancing Dead" character (ballroom dance dress and painted face). The delay was for a mechanical problem for which they could not locate a part. It was the weekend, but it would have been bad for people who had to go to work. Also - I'm sure lots of plans were messed up. Our dog/house sitter had already gone home and lives about 40 minutes away but a neighbor was able to come and let our dogs in and out until we got home.

No walk yesterday.  I had a bad headache and stomach didn't feel great.  I think it sinus related as it was supposed to rain and didn't-was overcast and humid all day.  Today is better - it's rained a bit this morning, but is much cooler.  Is supposed to be a long soaking rain all day - but it better get started if it's going to do it - LOL.

Food was good and I did some weights and foam roller so still made progress toward health goals.     

I didn't waste the whole day - I started on my closet - I purged 4 purses, 10 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of short boots.  There are probably a few more I can get rid of - I will take another look this afternoon.  I continued organizing clothes and will start the clothing purge as soon as possible, but may have to be after we get home from vacation.  I might be able to purge sweaters/jackets/pants before we leave!   It is shameful I have so much stuff that I don't wear.  But seriously some of the shoes are 10 years old!  Once I get it really organized I am going to make a rule for myself that my friend uses - before I BUY anything new - I have to give AWAY a like article. And purge after every season - twice a year.  That way I'll end up  organized and with only things I really like and actually wear.  I used to do this - just quit a long time ago.  After my clothes closet - my drawers - they aren't nearly as crowded.   Then husband's closet and drawers and then the bigger stuff - the garage and the basement and attic.  The basement and attic aren't bad, but the garage!!!!

I cleaned out refrigerator and organized the pantry and the plastic container cabinet - those were pretty unorganized.  Finally came to grips with the fact that I can actually do without 50% of the plastic containers!  This will help our friend who is house/dog sitting for us.  There was not a lot to throw out in the pantry - just some odds and ends - good thing, because I don't like to WASTE things.  Mostly just stuff needed to be arranged better.  And apparently I have become a glass jar hoarder!  There were about 5 big ones in there!  Guess I thought I'd "need" them at some point. 

Enough about my house purge!  More later........Have a healthy day!

Sometimes it's best to let the body rest extra before resuming exercise. I forced myself to rest today. Just feeling run down after a trip...no need to push it on my day off....foam rolling sounds helpful.

Walked 3 miles yesterday at a new track/park.  It was crowded and too far away to go to often, but it was OK for a change.  I also went with my mom to look at the second round of paint for her porch - she has already had it painted but doesn't like the color.  We spent more than an hour looking at neutral tones of BEIGE and got two more samples.  I think what she has had painted already looks just fine, but you have to know my mother......God bless her!

Food was good yesterday and I took some more time to organize the clothes I am going to take on vacation.  Probably still too much, so I will go through them one more time and pull some out.  I still need to purge my closet and drawers - soon - soon! I think I will just go through the stuff I already have out and give it away now. That way I don't have to store and look at it again next year.  Yes, good idea, Holly. Only makes sense.  I must organize more of my/our stuff.  It will give me a new mental lease on life.  But now - to go walk!

I also have a few "favorite places" to go walking. A couple are a little far, but so nice to go. At one place, I met lifelong friends there. I'd see them SEASON AFTER SEASON! after every winter, i'd see them again the next spring thru summer thru fall. Then I moved away & don't go back much. So many beautiful memories at that park. As a kid, I'd swim at the pool at that same park. I miss it. Beautiful place to walk with a huge pond and lots of nature as well as a school & field too. Ample scenery to observe and even two paths to choose 1 mile or 1.5 miles - this park was my favorite...sorry to go off about my memories LOL. Now i have another new park 10 min from where I live...and it's nice too! One huge lap is 1 mile around a MASSIVE field. Includes public restrooms and even a small hill. Perfect for me now. So even walking once around is a perfect mile :) I will be going there more as I increase my cardio. Sorry to blast with park comments on your entry lol...

opposite of you, i'm going to TRY to pack light. will pack tonight & try to get it done sorta fast so i can sleep & not be up all evening packing! lol...

purging of things we don't need feels so good. I did it a little bit around a month ago of items that are too big (i didn't even buy most - my mom had given me her old clothes a year ago and now they are big on me...so i donated them)...

OK -yesterday too a day off walking, but going back to it today.  Food was fine yesterday.  I was craving sweets terribly yesterday so I know I need to cut back on carbs and eat more vegetables and protein today and the rest of the week.  I can do that.  Going to the paint store with my mother - long story - please pray for me - LOL!  More on that later.....I'll update tonight or in the morning!  Stay strong and take care of yourselves, everyone!

sometimes i give into a bit more the cravings but try to make good choices to satisfy them. sometimes i go with it - i go through periods of time where i just crave more carbs and feel it's ok to have more....and then other times i feel that i just need to eat things that are more satisfyting - like more protein / actual meat (sometimes when i am really off the meats / chicken / fish...and just vegetarian options - i soon crave hard core proteins from non-veg sources...sometimes i feel it is ok to listen to your body...WITHIN REASON of course! wishing you well...

If you are not having sweets and you still crave sugar did you ever check the sugar content in items that you are eating that could be your trigger for craving more sweets. I don't know what carb you are eating but there are good carbs out there that will not affect you as much.

Sunday - Walked 3 miles, went to eat lunch with husband at Steak and Shake - very off plan, but planned to do this - so really on plan, I think.  Had a small burger, 3 onion rings and split a choc shake with husband.  Not that bad.  Had no breakfast at all because husband was anxious to go walk.  We had grilled chicken for dinner with kale, corn on the cob and baked potatoes.  I ate a couple bites of chicken, two ears of corn - they were very small - a tiny bit of kale and almost a whole potato with small amount of butter and sour cream.

This week is the count down to vacation.  We are leaving around 2;00 Sat afternoon.   I need to:

Get some stuff done for Professional Association

Clean house and get it ready for the friend who is house/dog-sitting for us

Help Mom do a few things


Check on last minute things from the rental agency we are using for the condo we are staying in

Husband will double check tickets and rental car details

We don't leave until around 2:00 on Saturday - but I have lots to do this week. It's odd - usually I don't pack until about 2 hours before we are ready to walk out the door! That's what happens when you have lots of time on your hands, I guess. I am also not really packing - just going thru clothes and setting stuff aside I think I might take. It's a good time to sort through summer and winter clothes. too. Thanks for your comments. <3

Nice walking Sunday! Even a mile is good for me, I have realized. I am going to be making an effort after work in October (as long as I feel rested after the vaca) and definitely be making a MAJOR effort in November to go to a park by me that is exactly 1mile to walk a loop. I plan to be going after work before I go home to my apt for walks in November instead of just going directly home. I want to start doing more cardio-wise & this will be the trick!

Lunch sounds tasty at Steak & Shake! For some reason, those types of foods do not really interest me very much anymore….(I don’t mean to offend you!)…I am saying I have been eating my way so long – veggies more and less and less meat…that it’s become habit also when going out USUALLY. I like to find the veggies….haha. please don’t take my comment the wrong way…I hope you enjoyed going out & everything!!

Dinner sounds healthy. Potatoes are good for you did you know about the potassium ? That’s why I have begun to like potatoes more. This winter I think I will start adding them into my meals regularly as to get away maybe from so many bananas (usually 1 per day in morning).

You have lots to do before your vaca! Sounds like me – I was also getting ready & last minute planning this weekend. In a good way. Lots of little things also needed some taking care of / forms filled out & mailed, certain bills before my vaca this week. Fun times.

I am not offended. I don't eat Steak and Shake type foods often at all. Husband doesn't either - but it was his choice yesterday. It wasn't very good - really except for the milkshake which we split! I am eating way too many carbs in general. But this is what I do - I cut back on calories for awhile and the I work on getting healthier calories. I find I MUST have some "junk" food or I go nuts for it and go overboard. Potatoes have also have vitamin C and Vitamin B6. They aren't junk food, but the stuff we sometimes put on them is high in fat and calories - butter and sour cream! I use in moderation or put stuff like cottage cheese and salsa or a sprinkle of cheddar. I usually can only eat 1/2. I like them in soups and stews, too. Spinach, white beans, sweet potato and plain yogurt are also excellent sources of potassium. Have a good trip - you leave before I do!

Haven't gotten very much done around the house today.  Baby girl spent the night last night and daughter didn't pick her up until around 2:00 today.  She slept through the night and took a good nap, though.  We went for a 2.5 mile walk with her in the stroller and I did the foam roller.  It has gotten a little easier over the last week. Food was good. I wanted to make brownies this afternoon, but compromised and drizzled some chocolate over popcorn.  Then husband and daughter ate most that so no damage done.  I need to have something sweet to eat soon.  If I don't I'll go overboard soon.  It's been a long time.  

We are back to summer weather again - 80's.  Whew!  I put the mums in the front pots but didn't get to clean off the porch and siding yet - maybe tomorrow.

Walked 3 miles this morning.  Went to the grocery again.  Ran by the outdoor market and picked up two small mums, two very small pumpkins for the pots on my front porch.  Came home and set the pumpkins and scarecrows I always decorate with - will set the mums later this morning.  

Did my foam rolling.  I think it's helping.  I am beginning to feel more straight and upright and stronger day by day.  Still taking 2-4 Tylenol a day - some days 6, but not usually 6.  Orthotics seem to help a lot, but I've noticed different muscles getting sore because using different muscles than without them.  That is OK - overall I believe I am headed in the right direction.  I leave for vacation in one week.  I won't be at the goal I hoped for, but I know I have done and will do the best I can.

my pain from sitting has died down quite a bit myself...thankfully!...

glad the orthotics help, try not to overdo to soon!...where are you going on vaca again?

I know what you mean about no more self-help chores - I am grateful I have this time to do it for myself. Glad your sitting pain is better. We are taking a quick trip to Ft. Walton Beach Florida. We haven't been to the beach in ages - usually pefer to go out west, but husband wanted to go somewhere in Oct and not wait for spring-Montana is cold in deep snow in winter. We may be able to go to Arizona in February, though - it's warm there.
