Happy Friday everyone.  Hectic week so no posts for last few days.  I have done very well on food this week - but exercise not so well.  I will have only 3 walks in this week.  Better than nothing.  I am going to do a walk and weights tomorrow morning.

I have just about come to a big decision.  By Spring 2016 I plan to quit work.  This week has about done me in.  I took this job to make a change and have a job that I could enjoy and perhaps eventually take my bosses job when she retires. I enjoy the work, but I do not care for the culture of the company and I sincerely do not care for my coworkers - I have always gotten along well with coworkers everywhere I have worked but these are unlike any people I have EVER met.  I do not need to surround myself with an atmosphere like this at this point in my life.  Also having an aging mother who may need more care over the next few year and having no siblings and a desire to be there for my granddaughter more in the future are driving forces in this decision.  So, that said, I am going to make plans to exit in April or May!

Tomorrow morning I am planning a small session with my weights an an early walk with a friend and catching up on housework that has gone undone since husband was out of town - oh, and a pedicure!  Need the toes done!  Will probably babysit at some point, too! I will have the Friday before Labor Day off work and we are going to a family get together on Saturday of Labor Day weekend in Cincinnati.

Baby girls first week in daycare/school has gone pretty well and son in law has one week at his new job!  Praise God for the good things and thank Him for the harder ones that provide us with those opportunities to grow in our faith.  The hotter the fire the stronger the steel!

livinglight on 08/29/2015:
Enjoy the weekend!

thinkpositive on 08/29/2015:
That's quite a decision. Maybe it will make your work life more tolerable knowing that you have an exit paln. Sounds like a busy weekend- have fun.

ohioraven on 08/29/2015:
Good post today, Holly.

Umpqua on 08/29/2015:
Congratulations on this decision, I'm sure it didn't come easily! I absolutely agree that you don't need to be in a negative or toxic environment at this stage of your career or life. I did that for 6 years, when I was younger and at an important stage in my career, and it did a number on my self esteem. So you are wise to make this choice - life is too short for that nonsense!

It sounds like you have a nice weekend planned, enjoy it!

Well,, I am feeling better, thank goodness.  Daughter and I wound up not going to the food fair - it is going on today again - noon until 7:00.  It is a fair of local vendors featuring locally sourced foods - you can sample them for $$$ and they have music by local bands, etc.  I may go for awhile today.

Babysat for Rosalie for about 4 hours.

I did really well on the food and walked yesterday.

Will do better than that today.  More on that later..........

thinkpositive on 08/23/2015:
I wouldn't do well at a food fair- too many temptations & it would be a struggle not to indulge. I do love them though- lots of good community feeling. How old is Rosalie?

ohioraven on 08/23/2015:
I would NOT do too well at the fair either, Holly. Way too much temptations. Unless there were pickles and sauerkraut.

puddles on 08/23/2015:
I am really starting to think that we can go anywhere we want as long as we are aware of our limitations and are willing to stick to them. Enjoy your day.

livinglight on 08/23/2015:
Well done for yesterday and hope you enjoy the day!

Very busy week and have not felt very well the last 3 days.  Stomach has been off. Sometimes nuts make me ill and I may have eaten too many in conjunction with other foods that don't mix well.  I will eat lightly the next few days and take zantac to calm it down.  Husband has last business trip of the year. Leaves tomorrow and comes home Thurs night.  Daughter and granddaughter and I are supposed to go to food festival tomorrow night.  Hope my tummy calms down by then.  Samples of food from local restaurants and stuff.  It's at a city park.  Weather is supposed to be good.

I have eaten OK this week, but only walked one day.  I want to get a bike ride in tomorrow morning.

Son in Law begins new job Monday!  Yay!  Baby girl starts daycare/preschool too - they have chosen an excellent place - Montessori School - but it's not practical - it's far away from daughter's house and work and although it's close to SIL's work - they don't open early enough for him to transport her.  Daughter has rearranged her schedule to be able to take and pick her up.....we'll see.  It's their choice.  I am feeling like I want to quit work and keep her - but I would only want to 2-3 days week - not every day!  Maybe in the Spring!

puddles on 08/22/2015:
Sounds like everybody's routine will be change with the new schedule. Hope you feel better soon. Have a great day.

livinglight on 08/22/2015:
Feel better soon Hollybelle, hope you are well enough to enjoy the festival! Enjoy the day :)

grannyannie on 08/22/2015:
Hope you feel better and have a nice time tomorrow. My husband gets sick when he eats too many nuts.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2015:
yep, I've heard of the Montessori school! Best of luck to everyone in your family on their new experiences. I hope you feel better...usually I shy away from fairs and things where there's "crap" food because I know I will have a hard time choosing food, etc., because it gets me all anxious to not know what i'll be eating / save calories for that kinda thing lol. ugh...sometimes I wish I had a more normal relationship with diet & exercise but really I wouldn't be me if I did! anyways, feel better.

maybe you are anxious about your husband being away and that's part of the stomach issues? you never know...

hollybelle on 08/23/2015:
We wound up not going to the fair - but it wasn't that type of fair - it was vendors who were sampling their locally sourced food. Pretty healthy things. Local meat, other organic canned and bottled products and local music etc.

Busy weekend!  Babysat from 6:00-1:00 am on Friday night-Saturday morning - yes they actually picked that baby up at 1:00 a.m.  Miraculously she didn't wake up!  Saturday got up EARLY and went to breakfast with a friend and to an Art Fair downtown - walked around a lot and bought a couple of things.  This Art Fair has been produced for 40 years here.  Then got haircut and went to the grocery for a few thing.  Sunday did some house cleaning and babysat for a couple of hours in the morning, went to Sam's Club and to the Mall for a quick return of some things I bought last week that I tried on at home and didn't work.  Then to the grocery and home to make Greek salad - yum and grilled chicken - then the kids came back for dinner and I went to my Mom's to take her some of the dinner and get gas for her car.

Over all I have been very active, but no real exercise.  I over ate Saturday, but stayed in goals on Sunday - I will do well this week - busy week at work and I am motivated to stay on track.  I have lots of Fall and Winter clothes I want to fit in!  I need some energy.

puddles on 08/17/2015:

Ate a little too much cals today.  Mostly thanks to unhealthy snacks.  I will do better tomorrow.  I am pretty tired today.  Going to go for a walk about dark and call it a day.

Would love to have seen the perseid meteor shows last night/this morning but needed sleep more.  Did anyone else see them?  Were suppose to peak around 3:00 a.m.

No more news than that right now.  Very short post tonight.

thinkpositive on 08/14/2015:
I know about those snacks- can be my downfall. Very interested in the meteor shower but the good shows are too late for me, unfortunately.

Umpqua on 08/14/2015:
We went out Wednesday night and caught a few, but it was early (like 10 p.m.) and not the peak time yet. I hope you enjoy your weekend!

No posts all week - so busy this past week.  Lots going on at work.  I have been eating OK and have managed to get in walking on 4 days this week and I have done light weights once.

I am going to annual Arts Fair at a local park on Saturday and probably babysitting for baby girl Saturday night.

Have been enjoying good summer vegetables and finally got some of the special grapes that come to the local produce stand once a year!

Will catch up with everyone's posts and be posting more again.  That is - if work calms down as well as other stuff going on!  Hang in there everyone and remember whatever you are struggling with you can do this healthy living stuff!  Keep on keeping on!

ohioraven on 08/13/2015:

Hey everyone!  Such a busy week so far - not much time to post. The kids came over unexpectedly last night and went to church group tonight.  I have done well on food and exercise, so-so.

My big news today is my son-in-law got a job offer!  Much better pay than his last job and seems like something he's going to like!  8 months, people, waiting on this job!  They have perservered and now hope it will pay off and they can move on with life!  Of course, with daughter now working (and doing well in her job) that means Rosalie will need daycare for the first time.

I haven't exercised since the weekend!  Need to do something!

horn_of_plenty on 08/05/2015:
Congrats to your son in law on his job offer! That's wonderful. It seems that people in general have a hard time getting jobs - I sure did.

hollybelle on 08/05/2015:
Thanks, HOP. He has an engineering degree and I thought it wouldn't take more than 3-4 months, but....

Yes, fingers crossed and praying too - this is a big transition for them.

ohioraven on 08/05/2015:
Hey, KentuckyGirl. Get out there and hit that gym. Good news about the Son-in-Law.

hollybelle on 08/13/2015:
thanks. I have exercised more this past week!

It's been a good week diet and exercise wise - long walks the last two day in the park with dogs.  Hour and a half each time.  Food has been really decent every day.

Babysat for baby girl yesterday - she's a mess.  Calamity Jane -she has not fear and is bumping herself up quite a bit.  Falling down, etc.  Wild-child.

Going to catch up on housework and grocery shopping a little and get ready for the first week of Aug!

UPDATE:  Gotta brag on my latest cooking in the kitchen today!  I had creole tomatoes and grits Friday night at a very cool restaurant in town called Stella's.  I liked them so much - but they were a little too spicy for me to eat as much as I wanted.  So, today I thought I'd try to make them - got fresh tomatoes, red, yellow and orange peppers and onions, celery and tried it myself - delicious - vegetarian, but could put ANY kind of meat with it - WOW - knock my socks off.   I also made banana peach muffins - they were so -so, in my book, although husband and son in law said good.

puddles on 08/02/2015:
Good job on your week. Have a great day.

Today I ate:

B:  Cantaloupe  and  watermelon, Iced vanilla coffee

L:  Pork Tenderloin sandwich

S:  6 sesame honey squares

D:  fruit salad and 5 mini chicken tacos

S:  1/4 c or less mixed nuts

My knee did ok -- I iced it last night again this morning and most of the swelling went down - it was weird looing - kind of like a little pointy cone on the knee cap!  I walked for an hour and the Arboretum with my friend and I think I'll ice it again tonight to make sure.  Almost got caught in a rain storm

Have a good night, everyone!

ohioraven on 07/30/2015:
GoodNight, Holly.

Maria7 on 07/30/2015:
Is it time for our scupponongs yet??? :-) Hope you feel better. Try not to overdo.

hollybelle on 07/30/2015:
It is almost scupponong time - they usually come in first week of August at my local fruit stand! I look every few day!

Umpqua on 07/31/2015:
I wonder if it was water on the knee? I've had that happen and it's really strange looking. I'm glad the swelling is down!

Hope you're doing well today!

Been busy this week.  I already can't wait for the weekend.  I have been doing very well on food.  Exercise - not so much.  Tonight coming in the door from the garage I hit my kneecap on the door frame and it has a large pointy bump on it. I iced it and hope it's better in the morning.

Food today was

B:  Iced vanilla coffee and banana

L:  grilled chick sandwich

S:  7 sesame honey squares

D:  6 mini chicken tacos (Trader Joes) with T sour cream, watermelon

S:  Cereal and 1/2 banana

I find that I'm getting home later and later and don't have as much time to cook, so I went to Trader Joes and picked up some frozen entrees - we will see if they are good.  I had the mini chick tacos before.  I hardly ever go to TJ's because I usually can't/don't resist the goodies!  But tonight I was successful in saying - just don't even look at that stuff!  I didn't buy any of it.  I have really been eating very little sugar - just a little bit each day.  That is amazing.  I've been saying this and it's very true - I need to step up my exercise!  Heck, anything would be a step up!  Whew!

ohioraven on 07/29/2015:
Good attitude ignoring that CRAP. Good to hear that you're taking care of yourself.

hollybelle on 07/29/2015:
Yup! Yay for me!

puddles on 07/29/2015:
Very good. The less sugar you take the less you will crave it. Keep up the good work and hope your knee feels better.

hollybelle on 07/29/2015:
Knee better - thanks.

Umpqua on 07/29/2015:
Good move avoiding the sweet stuff. The frozen TJs Mexican stuff is yummy and pretty good for ingredients and nutrition. We used to get the tamales and they were great for busy nights. I hope your knee feels better today!

hollybelle on 07/29/2015:
Knee much better - thanks
