Tuesday 1/22/08

Yesterday was not a particularly good day, but it wasn't awful, either.

Menus were:

B: Toast with Fruit Spread, Coffee 195

L: 3 pieces of med Pepperoni Pizza 640

S: LATE Brownie 180

D: Homemade Beef Burrito 500

S: Flan 250

1765 Total. If I had not eaten the flan! This total is not good enough to keep losing weight. I will do better today. Part of the problem was that I did not keep track as I went during the day. Not a good idea. If I had done that I would have known that the flan would be the thing that put me over 1500. Although I shoot for 1200-1400 I consider 1500 a successful day on calories. I could have had the flan for breakfast, even or a treat today! Also - that last darn brownie! SIGH!

I started cleaning out drawers yesterday. Got all my dresser drawers cleaned out and organized. Really got rid of alot of stuff. My goal is to get husband to go through his drawers with me. Get his done and move on to the linen closet and the spare room drawewrs and closet and then get into husband and my clothes closet. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but, although I used to purge twice a year I have only "scratched the surface for several years and it is in dire need to a good toss in all directions. After this will tackle daughter's whole room, drawers and closet. We all have just gotten into a habit of keeping STUFF too long. One day at a time. It makes you feel so mucy better about day to day life. I was reading a whole website on the psychological benefits of staying organized and purging the house and your surroundings. It appears there is actually something to this fung shui business!

I am with you on the purging and how it feels great! I am totally not a pack rat but I noticed that my closets are also looking kind of stuffed. Enjoy your purging of stuff!! The Flan sounds tasty (I had to look it up online lol) Have a great day!!!

Thank you for the support to me as a newcomer. It is nice to finally have some support of people in everyday life and wanting to be thin again.. I never had tried Skinny Cow porducts, but they were on sale, so I bought a box to try. I also love S.F. Jell-o with a tad of N.F. cottage cheese.. Congrats on your loss so far and keep going...your goal is much less than mine!!!

It is such a good feeling to get those drawers cleaned out and organized! I have to do this more often than I like, as my husband will put clothes away - wherever he feels like it. He has no concept of drawers for different things. he just opens one and shoves stuff in....So I have to clean in order to find anything. But I always purge a little bit each time I do it...

Brownies are my downfall - that's why I don't make them unless it's a special occasion!

I am back to posting my entrys for the day before. The other way was too complicated.

Yesterday, Monday 1/21/08 was not that great. Husband and I ate at the steakhouse with the other couple and it was really good. I got filet mignon medallions, but only ate one, then husband and I split dessert - creme brulee.

Menus were:

B: Banana and coffee

L: (very small homemade) Beef Burito, diet coke

D: Filet Mignon 3 oz, asparagus (YUM), sm house salad with lite ranch dressing and bread and butter, creme brulee

S: Brownie with Milk

We ate early so I was hungry before bed and chose one of those darn brownies. There are only 3 left and I hope daughter eats them today - School was closed because of snow. We have about 2 inches. That freaks us here in KY out. Calories for the day were about 1800. It could have been worse, but I gave in to some indulgences I needed to forego.

Today is another day - I will not chuck it in - hope to get to Zumba class, but with roads being icy might now get to. I will get on ET if not zumba. See you later.

Hey, sounds like you ate pretty well to me. Now, truthfully, in the past would you have not eaten more than one brownie, or not shared the dessert with your hubby? I would love to take a Zumba Class. Wish they had it at my gym....on the other hand, I have talked to Vince about it and he sounded interested.

Yesterday was OK. We went for a long walk (1.25 hours) at the Nature Sanctuary close to our house. It was very cold, but we dressed for it and it was good exercise. Husband and daughter went along with me and our neighbor husband, son and daughter. It was quite an adventure. We had to take two cars, but daughter got practice driving on curvy "country" roads. It was about a 15 minute drive from our house. We saw two sets of 3 deer and the frozen waterfalls/streams in the bottom of the park. It is nice to see nature in all seasons.

Eating was OK. I did eat some cookies and ONE brownie despite saying I wasn't tempted. I must say nutrition was AWFUL, but calories were OK. I will do better today, but it will be a little bit of a challenge as husband committed to meeting a man he worked with when he was working the job he took before he got this one - you may remember me saying he was working a couple of hours away and living with his parents during the week in the early Fall last year - anyway - this man and his wife have been to Tennessee and are coming thru our town on the way back and wanted to meet for dinner. So Mark said let's go to this upscale steakhouse. If I eat well during the day and choose well at dinner it should be OK.

Menus yesterday were:

B; Cookies, Coffee 350

L: A few chicken Nachos and fruit 300

D: Chips and Salsa 300

S: Brownie and Milk 300

1250 Total calories and 1 hr 15 min walking/hiking!

I am taking vacation day today and hope that I can get some housework done. It might be a good day to do that since it is unexpected time off where nothing is planned and nothing comes up! Lots of Christmas clean up still to do. Tree stuff is down and put away, but decorations are all in the corner of the basement waiting to be boxed and crated and put away. YES, we decorate a LOT for Christmas. LOL! We have also been known to have tree up until Valentine's Day some years! All that work getting it up - might as well get some use out of it, heh?

Saturday - We had the big TACO night last night and it was a hit. We have about 25 people and everyone ate everything. ME - included!! I Probably are about 2700 calories. I didn't eat all day much at all. I REALLY wasn't hungry. But then I ate anything I wanted in the evening. My calories consisted mostly of brownies. I had about 6 of them. They were wonderful. I made them semi-homemade and they were terrific. There are hardly any left this morning and I DON'T feel tempted at all so I sould be able to get back on the healthy eating track today. I wanted to worry about eating so much and put myself down for not holding the line last night, but I planned to have a night where I didn't count and I did. There is no need whatsoever to berate myself. I am going back on healthy track today and this is the first weekend in 3 that I haven't followed the "plan".

It is SO cold here. In the single digits. We want to go do something, but lots to clean up here. BURRRRRRRR! More later.

You asked: WHAT IS ZUMBA? BASICALLY IT IS LATIN AEROBICS. CONCERTRATES ON THE CORE AREA AND IS VERY MUCH FUN. YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT ON: zumba.com or zumbakids.com is my instructor's website. She teaches kids, too. Her name is Cathya.

Walked for an hour in the cold misty weather last night. Was kind of damp when I got home. Couldn't talk friend into the Zumba class, she wasn't sure she'd have time and sounded a little intimidated. She is a lot YOUNGER than me so I know she could do it! Maybe she'll change her mind later.

Yesterday's calories were good. Someone brought Krispie Cream donuts in this morning! I had ONE. Oh, well, I don't really want any more. Just the one was PLENTY. Will just have to work the calories into the overall count today. I hope that works because I wanted to eat lots of TACOS and CHILI tomorrow night.

B: (tiny bit of) Coffee, Herbal tea, 1/2 bowl of oatmeal, Donut 345

LOL I would be that friend who was nervous about Zumba class. I am so painfully shy at starting things. Once I start, I'm in! Maybe she'll do it next time around?

I think I am going to try to have a "Make your own taco" day at work one day soon..or something similar. I think it is a very good idea!

I am SOOOOO glad that we do not have a Krispie Cream around me....Every time my husband and I would go to Virginia to visit his daughters the first thing I would do is go get donuts - and then I'd end up eating just about all of them! mmmmmmmm!

Okay, that's not good for me to even think about! maybe have your friend check Zumba out online with you so she can see what fun it looks like?

The month is flying by. Have walk with friend scheduled today - but want to talk her into attending ZUMBA class. I found another one on Thursday nights not too far from my house......so hope that works out as I already know can't go on Sat because of optometrist appt.

Yesterday was OK. I kind of ate wierd stuff, but not too unhealthy.

We are having gathering of friends on Saturday night for Make your Own TACO night. I hope it goes well. Expecting 20-30 people. Just to get away from winter doldrums. Everyone thought it was a good idea. We'll see.

Congrats to the daughter! Here is one of those "no way" stories, HB. For several days I have been craving waffles. So, I went to the store and bought a package of the frozen whole grain variety. (I am diabetic so it isn't too much damage because of the sugar-free syrup). I put two in the toaster and sat down to watch the news and CRUNCH! I had a "rock" in my mouth. I HOPED that it was a particular whole grain, but NO... It was a filling!!! Now I have to go to the dentist......... so what was that advice I was trying to give you?? :(

Today - Tuesday 1/15/08

D: Chick Salad Sandwich, Chips, Date Rolls 650

LATER: Waffle 400

Total 1642 - over but not bad. Ate early stayed up late - daughter wanted to stop by Waffle House after dance event - gave into Waffle. If I had ommitted the date rolls, the chips or the waffle it would have been a good day, but oh well, will do better today - it wasn't awful, just a little too much.

Exercise was 20 minutes on the ET and up and down the arena stairs - 4 times! We sat on second rown from bottom - good seats.

Yesterday no exercise, except house work. Caught laundry up and cleaned baths. I am really low on energy. I still haven't gone to dentist about tooth - am taking tylenol every 6-8 hours now. I need to go. That may be why I have no energy. Tonight is Rachel's Dancing with the Stars thing. I hope it turns out like she wants.

I'm having the same issues right now and I can't even get an appointment made with the dentist because I always phone when I have a day off, which is usually on a Friday, and the office is ALWAYS closed on Fridays and I ALWAYS forget that!!

HB, what is Rachel's "Dancing with the Stars" thing? I am so sorry that you have that toothache. I didn't realize that was happening or I would have urged you to get help immediately! In October I had the worst toothache and I just kept taking ibuprofin because I couldn't see any problem in there. My tooth and gum looked pink and strong, etc. Well, it just would not go away and I ended up having to have a root canal! Freaky (and expensive) but so glad that I braved the dentist! Now it's your turn :)

Monday 1/14/08 - Day 13

Total Calories 1195 - Exercise none

It's really odd - we had brownies laying around for a week and I didn't want to touch them at all. But these Rice Krispie Treats! Oh well, could have been worse. At least I got vegetables in.

Well, yesterday was a bit of a "bust" but it could have been worse. I didn't over eat in an emotional way, as I was actually HUNGRYm, but I think I could have made better choices on what I ate.

Daughter made Rice Krispie Treats and those are one of my very favorites and I ate 3, Also wanted to have yeast rolls and ate 3 with dinner and skipped vegetables.

Oh, well, today is another day. I think I will concentrate on exercise today and food choices and try to stay within a good calorie range, but try to eat things that have lots of nutrients. I know I don't have to be hungry to lose weight. I just need to choose well.

I averaged the last 6 days and it came to 1480 per day

Beware of those hungry days! I've been having them too, and I can tell you, you can gain just as much weight from hungry eating as you can from emotional eating! You're right - we need to be filling up on fruit, vegetables and other nutritious foods rather than using hunger as an excuse to indulge in empty carbs. Good luck!

It seems that every other week they do a fundraiser at work - by selling rice kripie treats...and they put extra marshmallows in them, so they are always nice a gooey...It has been very difficult for me to resist them! Yum!!!

Today Sunday, 1/13/08 - Day 12 (Getting close to 2 weeks)

Two weeks is not long to do this, so I am grateful for any results I have seen so far. I must be patient and keep doing the good things I am doing for myself very day and I will see results. It is inevitable.

Yesterday was not a bad day. The Zumba class was wonderful. I wasn't very good at it, but daughter complimented me on my efforts and said I did really well - wonder what she wants - LOL!!! My quads are a bit sore today, but that's all. The whole class is focused on strengthing the CORE, butt and legs. Some upper body, too, though. It's all done standing to latin music.

B: Grapefruit, Coffee 105

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 13 lbs to go!

The Zumba class sounds great! When you have a strengthened core, the whole body looks so much more toned! So i think this is a great form of exercise!!! :)

I am going to have to check out Zumba, sounds like a blast! It's always great to find a fun method of exercise. Patience is very important, so don't give up! You're twelve days in and I'm sure your body is so grateful for the good things you are doing now. It just takes a little time!

My daughter walked past my bedroom mirror yesterday, stopped and looked and said "My butt looks really good!" I about fell on the floor laughing because it was exactly what all of us would *and will* say if we were in great shape...but she wasn't afraid to just blurt it out LOL!!

Hiya Holly sounds like you are having a brill time dancing.You've been watching too much dancing with the stars.It's a great way to have exercise and having time with your daughter.I would like to try salsa,when i don't know i would look like a fairy elephant if i did it now!!!Keep up the good work,Julie

I have not heard of Zumba, but sounds like a great work out. The core muscles are so important to ballance - And as we age, we sure do need good balance! Patients is the hardest thing, but you sound very patient.
