OK - I think I'm getting back in the swing of things.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

Good Afternoon all. It's been a busy week so I haven't gotten on the site this week, but am happy to report that other than the holiday weekend - during which I endulged in foods I usually forego, but kept it "reasonable" for the most part - I have been keeping track of my calories and have been exercising. I have walked everyday except one for between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours and calories have been in the 1400-1800 range all except one day when they were more in the 2500 range. When things calm down a bit I will post my menus daily - if I can and check up on your all's diaries.

Haven't said much about husband's job search - but just to mention - AUGH!!!! Seriously - It could be SO MUCH worse, but it has been so strange and difficult. Not sure what God has planned for us. "Growth opportunities" abound, though!

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

greengirl on 09/07/2007:

Thanks for all your comments. Yesterday was OK. I came in with 1260 calories. But no exercise. Time was very short. Had a committee meeting that ran long and daughter developed a pretty bad infection underneath a blister on her heel (dancers get blisters all the time and she treats them - never had an infected one before) that needed medical attention so took her to the after hours clinic and got RX antibiotics for it. By that time it was 8:00 - had to have dinner, walk the dog - AH wait - I DID exercise LOL! I walked the dog for 35 minutes! I don't think I am awake yet! How funny - I think????

Menus were:

B: Iced Coffee, Oatmeal and 1/3 banana

L: Pork Chop and Salad with Light Ranch Dressing, Sm piece of Bread

D: Cashews (snack really), PBJ Sandwich, Milk, Luna Bar

Total Calories: 1260 Total Exercise: 35 minutes Walking

My plan is to stay on the better eating level I have been on the last week and try not to over-indulge over the Labor Day weekend. We are going to my in-laws for various activities for the Labor Day holiday. Husband and Daughter are going Saturday. I may go with them or drive up on sunday. They live about 1 1/2 hrs away. We will go to River Fest in Cincinnati - a BIG fireworks show on the river set to music. We haven't been in years and I am looking forward to seeing it again. One of husband's cousins is having cookout - potluck - so food will be tempting. I think I may save Sunday as a day when I eat whatever within reason. Sometimes that will motivate me to eat well until the event and then I can feel ok with it. I have decided not to let it stress me out whatever I do. It's just not worth it. A year ago I remember I felt stressed if I had been doing well and then was faced with a "eating occasion". I didn't realize I can make the right choices even at a picnic or celebration. AND....making the "right" choices doesn't necessarily mean foregoing food I love, or depriving myself. It just means I use my head, common sense and keep the balance I am aiming for!

Well, on that note, I think I will exit here. I'll try to post as much as I can and continue to keep my food diaries (because it DOES help) during the long weekend. In any event - wishing everyone blessings and much success. Question for our members in other countries - Does your country of residence have a similar holiday to the US's Labor Day?

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/31/2007:
haha...dinner sounds nice and sweet, definitely a choice for those with a sweet tooth! in my heart i do believe it's VERY ok to give into the temptations of food at a gathering. It's the perfect time to indulge in things you don't normally. for me, i'm always getting so anxious that i'll indulge the night and the morning before the event...and then i try to limit myself there...which is just dumb. i'm trying to turn this around...so that i indulge more with people...and not away from them!

workingit2 on 09/02/2007:
LOL congrats on the exercise and the calories...way to hang tough!!

Well, yesterday wasn't as good a diet/exercise day as Monday, but it was OK. I was tired (or was it lazy??) so - no exercise. I just kept procrastinating and didn't do any at all. Food was OK.

B: Iced Coffee

L: Burrito, 100 cal pack , banana,

S: 100 Cal granola bar

D: Ice Cream, 1/2 PBJ on multi grain, shredded wheat cereal, milk

That amounted to about 1500 calories. Not bad calorie wise, but the selection of food was awful. Ice Cream for dinner! Oh, well I'll do better today. I ate breakfast today so that I won't get so hungry at lunch and later on. I have fallen into "not so good" habits. Not terrible, but not so good. Doesn't mean I can't stop it right now. I can.

Will check in later.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

greengirl on 08/29/2007:
Mmmmm Ice cream for dinner!!!! I have days like this, when I eat empty cals but, hey, you gotta treat yourself sometimes and if you eat healthy most of the time, I dont think it matters too much if you do it occasionally :o)

hehe...interesting food choices!

Good morning. Didn't have time to post last night, but I have good things about yesterday to post today!

First of all I stayed well within my calorie goal of 1200-1400 calories. First time since I started "counting" again that I have done this! It was day 4, by the way. It just takes a few days to get back in the swing, so if some of you all are struggling to "get on a roll" take heart.

Although I left my notebook at home on the counter and can't remember all the food menus to post them here today, I'll post them later (maybe). I came in right around 1100 calories for yesterday. A little too little, but don't worry it will even out! LOL!

Then - last night I took some Pulled Pork BBQ over to my friend who had cooked me dinner last week and we - on the spur of the minute - decided to go mountain/trail biking instead of our usual walk. Her husband is a big mountain bike rider - cyclist of all kinds, actually - and she goes "sometimes" but I had never done this. There are wooded trails in the park by our neighborhood so we went there. I rode friend's husband's old trail bike and I kept up with the others pretty well. They are all a bit YOUNGER than me. We took the dogs and I had a BALL! I can't wait to go back. We rode for a little over an hour and although I'm sure we were on "easy" trails in that there were hills, but not alot of obstacles to jump, etc. it was a good workout and the only thing really sore on my body is my BUTT. I'm so excited to have found something NEW that I like!

Anyway - onward and upward for today. Wishing everyone a blessed day and much success in your endeavors!

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

Soon2BThin on 08/28/2007:
Good job on the calories! I know so well that it takes a few days to get back in the groove. The bike riding sounds like so much fun, especially since you can do it in a group. I hope you get to go again. Have a great day!

You've been busy! I count housework as exercise, even though I also do the other 'real' exercise LOL. Just because knowing how much I burn as a sedentary individual, any movement is positive..and I need all the positive I can get!I'm thinking about having beef and rice burrito's now LOL

OK - I need to amend what I said in my last post about doing well Spring and Fall, Winter and Summer! Horn of Plenty said that must mean I do well all year (or something to that effect!!!) Ha-Ha. What I MEANT to say was I do well Fall, Spring and Wintr - not so much in the Summer. I don't like the HOT weather. Sorry about the confusion. Now that that is straightened out -

I have been walking this week. I walked about 3 1/2 miles last night and this morning. It wasn't too hot & humid yet this morning. Last night wasn't too bad.

Eating OK. Went to a Professional Conference and they tended to feed us too much. It was only about an hour and a half away so it wasn't that big a deal but we got a lot of information. It will help me in my professional board position this year.

Got lots to do around the house now but I will get on later and see what the rest of you have been up to.

So - Later.......Holly

sweetpea1977 on 08/22/2007:
Last year, winter was my downfall. I tend to do pretty well in spring and fall and sometimes summer. I did well the last two summers, but not this year. The weather has been absolutely horrid and it has kept me from getting my regular form of exercise - walking outside! I can not wait until fall!!

Anyway, glad you are fitting in some walks despite the yucky humidity. Thats more than I can do right now! Keep it up, because every little bit helps!
