Exercise 50 minutes walking

Yesterday was pretty good. I was psyched because I hadn't done my exercise in the a.m. and was afraid it would rain earlier than predicted and I wouldn't be able to walk dog when planned, while daughter with Tutor, but it didn't rain and dog and I had good walk!

Ate pretty healthy meals until dinner. Husband not home, so didn't plan dinner and daughter wanted entirely different stuff from me. So I had the frozen mac and cheese and planned to eat something good - like vegetables, but wound up eating sun chips instead. Looking back at the days menus - I might have been craving carbs because I didn't eat that many complex carbs yesterday. I know I don't do very well on balance - but I'm doing best I can right now. Will try to work on balance as time goes on. I need more dairy for protein and calcium, less sugar and more complex carbs. Hoping for a successful weekend without too much overeating. I need to get a good solid week of good eating habits behind me. It seems like success breeds success so the seeds must be planted sometime for them to grow. Might as well be now! Calories: 1114 (this was hard fought too - read below!)

H2O: I finally made it to 48 oz +

Exercise: 25 minutes on ET

Looking back yesterday was a good day. It didn't seem like it at the time but it wound up that way. I will post menus and tell the story:

B: Coffee only (35) - I actually forgot to eat and then got busy at work and didn't really even get hungry 'til lunch

L: 1/4 C Chicken Salad (70), 3 Sesame Crackers (50), 4 Strawberries (8), 1 C Grapefruit (35), Pineapple Fruit Parfait (110)

S: 1/4 C Chex Mix (100) Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel sticks - Auntie Annie's - (450!!!!!!!)

D: California Blend Vegetables (150), Grapefruit (106)

As you can see - the day began OK except I forgot to eat breakfast (I don't believe in skipping a meal - or a snack for that matter because it causes me to have a big drop in blood sugar about 3:30 and I am likely to make a poor food choice) - Remember my rules: Eat often-3 meals 3 snacks, but only when I am hungry - even a little hungry - eat something healthy and something that I really, really like and don't eat unless I am hungry. Well, I forgot those basics at breakfast - no skipping because it is counter productive and I get that drop later in the day. I did fine at lunch - have begun taking my lunch again - that works so much better and makes me happy. But then I dropped daughter off at the dance studio and went to the Mall to return some items that didn't work out. On my way out I passed the Pretzel stand.......before I knew it I was ordering the cinnamon sugar pretzel sticks and figuring that they had about 300 calories and I'd eat light for dinner. I ate every one of them and really enjoyed them, too. When I got home I looked up the calories on calorieking and found out they had 450 calories! I did eat light at dinner, REAL light, and stayed within my calories without too much trouble. I really needed day where I stayed pretty low - around 1200 cals because of trying to get back on track after the holidays. The moral of the story is that I can really work anything into this plan if I pay attention and plan it. It is best to plan much better than I did yesterday and it is never a good idea to skip meals, but even with all that the day worked out pretty good with regard to my eating/exercise plan.

Congratulations in doing so well with your calories, despite the pretzel sticks being higher than estimated. You are right about being able to eat anything, as long as you count it!! Keep it up:)

Just replying to your comment about the chocolates in the boot drama!!The girls could go to the car and get the chocolates firstly IF they can find the keys i have to hide them. Once when they had a sleepover they took the keys from the side and went to the car (this was 11.30 pm at night)to get there nintendo secondly,they know the consequenses if they do.I have become very strict with them the past year, as they end up start ruling the whole house which is'nt going to happen.No, i think there would be more temptation if the chocs where in the house,and the only person i'm cheating is myself.Anyway i will catch you again bye.

Tuesday 1/9/07 3 Points

Cal: 1710 Exercise: 22 Minutes ET Veg/Fr: 1 (2 if you count the salsa!) Water: 48 oz

Well, last night didn't exactly go as planned. Daughter wanted to stop and pick up Mexican on way home from Tutor and although I didn't order anything for myself, we got a big container of salsa and big bag of chips for her and Dad to share - there was enough for Mom, too, so I had a few of those and a Fruit Parfait and 2 more Bourbon Balls!

My Calorie Total for the day was 1710. Not awful, but not within the 100 point goal either! Simply ate too much of that wonderful lunch and didn't make up for it in the evening.

Menus were:

B: Granola Bar (No Coffee! but not on purpose) 180

L: Turkey, Green Beans, Dressing, Roll w/Butter, Cake 1130

D: Chips/Salsa, Fruit Parfait, 2 Bourbon Balls 400

All I can say is - OH WELL! I got the points for more than 10 minutes of exercise (22 minutes on the ET in the a.m.) and for water (48 oz - believe it or not) so 3 points is better than none. This is not a contest - this is a lifetime commitment and today is a good day to remind myself of it so I don't feel disappointed in myself. I may not consider Tuesday, January 9, 2007 a success as far as my eating goals go, but in the large scheme of things I am being successful. If I continue to make small accomplishments each day my success will continue. One day does not make or break me. What choices I make over the long-haul will determine my future success.

So far today I am doing fine, but I'll post the final results of today on tomorrow's diary.

I want to say that I am very impressed by how many people are doing well on the challenge. Really racking up the points. It is serving to make me more aware of vegetable/fruit consumption and water intake. That's very positive as I was just "counting calories" before. I'm glad I am doing it. Hang in there, everyone - including myself! Wishing everyone a Blessed Day !

Yeah...you should get belly dancing...it doesn't feel like much of a cardio exercise for me yet, however, we do a lot of yoga type stretching etc...i love it as it has really empowered me to love my female shape and realize I am not 16 and I do have hips and a bit of tummy but 1 gorgeours daughter who is 12....thanks for your comments...you are doing great yourself- excellent attitute sister!!

For Monday 1/8 - 4 Points

I did Ok yesterday considering no exercise. I don't know why - just tired again. Seems like if I don't get on the ET in the a.m. I just fizzle out in the evening. I would have done wonderful except for those darn Bourbon Balls again. Someone wanted to know if they had chocolate in them - Moody - I think....They don't have chocolate in them, but they are dipped in chocolate. They are made with Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk, Butter, Bourbon (use the good stuff)and Confectioners Sugar. You mix all that up, roll them into 1 inch balls and freeze them for 20 minutes before dipping in either dark or milk chocolate. Probably shouldn't put a candy recipe on this site!!! but someone asked. They are a Kentucky tradition.

Anyway - they are almost gone (again) and I hope daughter is getting tired of them. We usually only make them once a year at Christmas - not twice, but she loves them so.

Menus for yesterday were:

B-Coffee, Special K Bar, Banana

L-Wheat thins, Healthy chicken Salad, Strawberries, Grapefruit, Grapes

D-1/2 baked Pork Chop, Mashed Potatoes, RF Ice Cream Bourbon Balls (2)

Calories came to 1270 believe it or not Drank more water but still not 48 oz probably around 32 oz 4 Veg/Fruits No Exercise

Today has been weird - had a very large lunch due to my professional association meeting and it was wonderful. I couldn't eat it all, but I had some of everything. When I got back to office I added up the calories and I am already at 1300 - so I only have 100 more to go to max out for the day - but I really don't think I will be hungry for the rest of the night. I plan to eat some grapefruit or an apple and maybe a little bit of soup or something to make about 100 calories. Anyway will post how I do tonight on tomorrow's diary.

Back in 2003 I had a boyfriend who moved to Kentucky to live with his sister for awhile since things in Michigan jobwise suck. I went out to visit him for 2 weeks and fell in love with the place. I dont remember now what city they were in but i know i came off the mountain parkway, and went right for a couple miles, then turned left into some street that led up some mountains. I love love love KY though and if I ever had a choice, I really think I would move there. Its so much different then Michigan and I loved that we could climb to a spot and see the whole city. I loved that ppl lived on the mountains and in the hollers lol. ( i know thats not how everyone lives though) When he was there he worked as a sattelite installer and I went on runs with him and got to see some amazing homes. I think I came home with a million pieces of wildcat shirts and what not lol, I just wish i could fit into them now!

I think you did really well! I have to force myself to exercise in the evenings too...I can hear my couch calling my name! After I finish though I always have more energy and end up doing a bunch of chores that I normally would save until the weekend! That's the plus. Just making myself do it is the hard part though. Keep up the good work!

Geez I LOVE KY! The food is soooo GOOOD there! You are right evening exercise is not easy...we are so mentally tired by then. Well calories are inline so just keep it up and you will be fine! Oh! Thanks for the sweet comment you made.

For Sunday 1/7/07 5 Points

I had OK day. Still don't have alot of time to post menus - so will just recap. My PC at home is working again! Whew! Had so much to do on line. My daughter made another batch of Bourbon Ball Candies on Friday night-they are her favorites. I wished she didn't want to do that - I held back on how many I wanted to have, but I still had three each day. I think they have about 80 calories each. My calorie count wasn't spectacularly low - but it wasn't "terrible" either. I ate LOTS of vegetables and fruits. I drank more water and even met the water quota on Sunday!

I am planning to get some walking in a lunch again now that the holidays are over. My co-worker wants to go again, too. That really seemed to put me over the edge (in a good way) when I was doing that before. Just an extra 20-30 minute walk 2-3 times per week really seemed to make a difference.

Rain has stopped here and it is a beautiful day. Still warm although colder - high today forcasted at 40. I can't remember a Dec/Jan like this. May get a dusting of snow later this week. Have a Blessed Day everyone!

Eggplant: First I slice the eggplant lengthwise almost an inch thick. I do the same with zuccini but a little thinner. Then I bake them both at 400 for 20-30 min. along w/red and green peppers.

Next - I layer them in a Corning ware casserole w/ready-made spaghetti sauce, Ricotta cheese and either mozzarella or cheddar cheese. Bake for 30 min.

Thanks for the comment. I bowled for 27 years in leagues before we moved out here 6 years ago and for a few years, I didn't bowl at all. My middle son taught me most of what I know about bowling and, of course, I watch any bowling that is on TV. I guess I love it so much because I am pretty good at it. I didn't win any money today but still bowled pretty good for it being my first time to try this kind of thing. There was only one other woman bowling and all the rest men. They were all very nice and I'm going to keep it up every Monday. It was really fun. I hope you get some bowling in yourself.

Later: OK am adding to this entry since I was having PC trouble and now it seems to be fixed. Was a synch problem. Yesterday (Saturday) I get 5 points. I was better able to do the exercise - did 30 minutes ET and 1.25 hours walking with husband, dog and neighbor. Calories were OK stayed within, but barely. Will catch up with everyone's posts.

Earlier: This is a test. Having trouble with my PC. If this works - will try to post more later regarding Friday and Saturday. Lost my whole post yesterday. The test worked so will try to update now before I lose the connection.

Friday 3 points was not a really great day. Didn't get the exercise in was so tired have had to do a lot with daughter's dance schedule and preparation for a big competition at the end of January. When I got home husband wanted to go out for Mexican - hadn't seen him much all week and he'll be gone part of next week so went with him. Calories wound up OK, but I really missed the exercise.

Saturday - Haven't calculated the points or statistics yet. Will post more later on yesterday - It was pretty good day - exercised a lot and made up for the days during the week when I just was unable to do it. Daughter starts back with tutor this week on Tuesday so hopefully will be able to post more then even if my PC is not working.

Only 3 points for yesterday. Calories were low, but didn't get the exercise in. I did eat at least the 3 v/fs and drank more water than usual. I will do better. There are always hitches here and there. Over the long haul is what matters. This way I am for sure not going to "burn out". OK - enough justification!

Thanks everyone for the hints about my wardrobe. I need to find out if I am going to lose more and how much more and maintain it and then think about clothes. We do have resale shops but they are very hit and miss. I can hit a couple of those and see what I can find and I can also hit some of the discount stores - like Walmart/KMart, etc. We'll see. Also I was thinking maybe I can spruce up my shoes, purses and accessories in the meantime. I just don't want to look so "baggy". I have a few pieces that do fit. What is frustrating the most, I think, is that some of my favorite pieces are so big. Some of those I think I can alter myself. There isn't too much that is actually worth paying someone else to alter. Someone mentioned taking up waist bands in jeans - that might work on some of mine. It's a just a matter of creativity, too, I guess.

Today I have had a very bad sinus headache due to rain all day. Rain has stopped and head is better, but for some reason I seem to want to EAT when it rains. I will need to watch it this evening so that I don't go over my calorie goal because I have eaten more than usual for this time of day. Wish me luck - Please!

Rachel begins tutor again next week so I will have time to walk in the evenings and time to be on PC more to reply to your diaries! I think everyone is doing great on the challenge. Hang in there. It is still just day 5 of the new year.

UGH sinus headaches are so awful! I am glad you feel better. I always crave creamy foods (like mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy) when it rains LOL. How cool that you know how to alter clothes! That will be a lifesaver! I did what Geeve said to do...only bought one or two pairs of jeans and a couple of things that fit better lol. I was happy to get rid of my big clothes even though I did like some of them..but then I saw pictures of myself in them and realized how BIG I still looked even though I thought I looked little lol

Yesterday was OK. I only earned 5 points that's OK. I wasn't able to eat more than 3 vege/fruits and I still didn't drink the 48 oz water, but I am working on the water.

My Calories were low 1085 for the day.

Menus were:

B: Coffee (35), Chex Mix (100) (yes, it's good for breakfast but I would rather have an egg and piece of fruit)

L: Kind's Ziti (240) and 1/2 breadstick (75)

D: 1 oz chuck steak (60), cherries (50), mac & cheese (125), banana (90), coffee (35), clementine (35)

S: Fiber Bar (140)

Exercised 30 minutes on ET.

I haven't been taking my lunch to work and that really helps me cut down on the calories, get the vegetable/fruit in, too. The Ziti isn't a bad fast food choice, though.

I will do better on water. I'll just have to work on it. I like adding all those points the next morning! Any gratification I can get in a healthy way is wonderful these days.

I am getting a little frustrated with my clothes situation. Pretty much nothing fits me. This is a GOOD problem to have, but I don't want to buy any new clothes until I know at what weight I am going to "settle". My total weight loss won't be all "that" much - probably 30 pounds and some of my clothes were tight and a few I couldn't even get into. But now everything is big - it's just a matter of degree. Oh, well I am just going to live with it right now. Hopefully I will lose the next 10 pounds by spring/summer and I can shop then. I have gone ahead and bought a few separates that I know will fit pretty well even when I lose more and they have all been Mediums! I haven't owned any Mediums in a long time. Also- I have bought a pair of pants that are 10s! It feels so strange.

holly you should go buy you a couple of new pieces of clothing just as a reward that you have lost some weight.. you dont have to go crazy just cause you know you will be going smaller.. go find some clearance shirts or pants plus it will give u a little boost as well.... i have bought several pieces of clothing and given several away just for the mere fact i know i cant gain that weight back cause i knowwww i dont have those "bigger comfy" clothes to go back to.. and when i got to buy a smaller size then what i was in just a shirt here or there it just boost me up and made me feel so much better especially when i was feeling kind of in a rut about dieting

I wish I had your problem with clothes!!! I'd love to be losing inches/pounds so that my clothes no longer fit me right!! I am happy for you, you have earned this "problem". LOL

Have you thought of hitting Goodwill or some other thriftstore? I know the Goodwill near me has some awesome clothes and are very cheap...just a thought if you don't want to invest alot of money in "new" clothing that will just end up being too big in a few months!!!

I had to buy a couple of pairs of jeans in the sales as mine were coming off without being unfastened so I know what you mean. It can work out expensive if you are not careful. I just took the waistband in on others. its only temporary but I manage with them. At least it means you are doing well :)

I am back! It has been so hectic I haven't had time to post anything at all. New Year's Eve was OK - ate Cheesecake along with some dip and vegetable lasagne that had a creamy sauce on it at party as what I thought would be the last hooray, but New Years Day I ate pineapple upside down cake, along with a large meal prepared by yours truly for in-laws. Yesterday (1/2) was the first day of the challenge for me. I pretty much got 0 on the 1st day but I did walk and hour and a half with husband in park and I did eat more than 3 servings of vege/fruit so I guess the total for the lst was actually 6.

Yesterday my calories were within the limite of 1400. I exercised 30 minutes on ET and ate 3+ vegetable/fruit but did not get the H2O in. So my point total was: 9 I think - I have a question. We get the one point for the lower goals. Then 2 points for the higher goals, but do we add those together so that a total of 3 points is possible for each goal or is it that either you get 1 point or two points? That hadn't occurred to me earlier. Working it - let me know and I'll update points accordingly. Thanks.

As far as the points go..you don't add them together..You either get 1 point for a goal or 2 if you go above and beyond. Like if you exercised for 10 minutes you get 1 point but if you went ahead and exercised longer than that, say 30 minutes you would get 2 points INSTEAD of 1.
